:01:03. > :01:09.Seven years ago, Nick Clegg was in a posh garden.

:01:10. > :01:14.It was Downing Street, and he was the new Deputy Prime Minister.

:01:15. > :01:19.Cut to 2017, and he is in a lovely, but more modest garden in Sheffield

:01:20. > :01:22.to tell us whether he is standing or not in this surprise

:01:23. > :01:28.Once you knew there was going to be a general election,

:01:48. > :01:53.I have always taken that duty very seriously in Parliament.

:01:54. > :01:56.There have been some ups and downs for Nick Clegg.

:01:57. > :02:03.He had all the best hashtags and he also had the support

:02:04. > :02:06.of students, because he made a promise on tuition fees.

:02:07. > :02:12.He paid for it when, in the eyes of the students,

:02:13. > :02:18.There were some furious rewriting of placards

:02:22. > :02:27.Do people here still agree with Nick?

:02:28. > :02:32.He promised they would not increase fees at all,

:02:33. > :02:38.I don't know who will believe in him.

:02:39. > :02:42.I am excited to hear what kind of policies he will bring,

:02:43. > :02:45.what kind of things can be done for the EU and Brexit.

:02:46. > :02:48.With what he said about students last time, and how he sold them out,

:02:49. > :02:56.But looking at the choices we have got, better the devil you know.

:02:57. > :03:06.Well, it is the third big election in three years.

:03:07. > :03:09.Nick Clegg has a majority of over 2000 in Sheffield Hallam.

:03:10. > :03:13.It was cut significantly last time, but in an area where it is estimated

:03:14. > :03:16.more people voted to remain in the EU than leave,

:03:17. > :03:19.he will be hoping to get votes from both Labour

:03:20. > :03:28.The last time we all voted was in the EU referendum.

:03:29. > :03:30.Then, many younger people voted to remain in the European Union,

:03:31. > :03:33.while more older people voted to leave.

:03:34. > :03:35.So will there be a generation gap this time?

:03:36. > :03:39.In a moment Abi Jaeyola reports from the Conservative stronghold

:03:40. > :03:41.of Thirsk and Malton, but first Heidi Tomlinson has been

:03:42. > :03:44.speak to first-time voters in Labour's safest seat in West

:03:45. > :04:01.Sixth form politics students on the cusp of A-levels,

:04:02. > :04:05.and their first vote in a general election.

:04:06. > :04:07.What issues came to the forefront of your mind?

:04:08. > :04:10.I think I am excited about being able to vote for the first time.

:04:11. > :04:15.I am glad to have a chance to vote now I am 18.

:04:16. > :04:20.I am shocked because she said she would not hold one.

:04:21. > :04:23.I'm quite excited to have a vote and state my opinion.

:04:24. > :04:26.So, if we start about the thought of being a first-time voter...

:04:27. > :04:30.I couldn't vote for Brexit though, so now it is my

:04:31. > :04:34.There is the chance, but also the fact

:04:35. > :04:38.that it is kind of a shock election, usually you would have five years to

:04:39. > :04:41.decide who you are voting for and we have got seven weeks.

:04:42. > :04:43.Are you going to make the effort to vote?

:04:44. > :04:47.It is important that young people turn out because this is a chance

:04:48. > :04:51.for us now to pick up where we may have not got what we wanted

:04:52. > :04:56.I was not happy with the Brexit result, so now it's my chance

:04:57. > :05:01.The election has been called not only to build on the Conservative

:05:02. > :05:04.majority in the House of Commons, but also to ensure that

:05:05. > :05:08.Your first vote, can account in this election,

:05:09. > :05:16.I think it is the first time many people our age will be voting,

:05:17. > :05:19.this is a new generation that has been punished particularly badly

:05:20. > :05:24.We have had strangled youth mental health services,

:05:25. > :05:27.the coalition hurt us with tuition fees, and this is the first time

:05:28. > :05:36.I am going to put you all on the spot now and ask you will vote for.

:05:37. > :05:56.In seven weeks' time, shoppers here will be

:05:57. > :05:58.making what might be a more difficult choice.

:05:59. > :06:01.What colour political party to vote for.

:06:02. > :06:05.I am sick to death of hearing about it already.

:06:06. > :06:07.What should they be talking about in this election?

:06:08. > :06:14.For potential voters here, there is one issue they expect

:06:15. > :06:32.55% of people in this area voted in favour of leaving the EU.

:06:33. > :06:36.This is an area that is a traditional safe Conservative

:06:37. > :06:38.seat, but there is still a range of views about what people

:06:39. > :06:40.would like to see from the next government.

:06:41. > :06:44.On this occasion, I am hoping that there will be a bit more power

:06:45. > :06:48.to whoever is in government to sort out the NHS.

:06:49. > :06:51.I would like to see something done about the ?13 billion, ever

:06:52. > :06:59.We have to look at low pay and housing.

:07:00. > :07:02.If you have low pay, you can't afford your housing.

:07:03. > :07:06.There is one issue that everyone here is agreed on.

:07:07. > :07:14.Who will vote in the general election?

:07:15. > :07:17.One question you've asked us today - with just seven weeks left

:07:18. > :07:19.until the election - is how do you actually

:07:20. > :07:32.First of all remind us what turnout was like at the last election? Last

:07:33. > :07:37.time a lot of people than usual, just over 66%, more than any time in

:07:38. > :07:43.the last 20 years since the Blair Labour landslide still nothing on

:07:44. > :07:49.the EU referendum which was 72% of people voting which got people of

:07:50. > :07:54.their suppers engaging in politics. It is a younger vote, the under 25

:07:55. > :08:00.is now putting as much. How do you register to vote? All you do is sign

:08:01. > :08:07.up online, it takes five minutes. You will need your National

:08:08. > :08:10.Insurance number and if you have already registered to vote in the

:08:11. > :08:14.upcoming local elections you won't need to reregister but you will need

:08:15. > :08:20.to if you have no ties and are in a new constituency. The all-important

:08:21. > :08:23.question, the deadline? The 22nd of May, so not long. Thank you.

:08:24. > :08:25.A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder

:08:26. > :08:29.Derbyshire Police were called to a collision between a motorbike

:08:30. > :08:34.The incident took place near the Boot and Shoe Inn

:08:35. > :08:36.in Grassmoor, near Chesterfield, and police said an altercation

:08:37. > :08:43.A 74-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he later died.

:08:44. > :08:49.Sheffield's Jess Ennis-Hill has been made a Dame today,

:08:50. > :08:54.The Olympic gold medal-winning heptathlete received the honour

:08:55. > :09:06.She's been recognised for services to athletics.

:09:07. > :09:15.Now, will the weather forecast to be a winner? I think it will be pretty

:09:16. > :09:22.quiet. Mild tomorrow. This was a real winner on the evening news

:09:23. > :09:27.tonight, the picture from Scarborough. A beautiful sunrise

:09:28. > :09:32.taken at the roundabout 6am. Thank you for sending that ten. Over the

:09:33. > :09:38.next few days I'm not sure there will be too much sunshine. A lot of

:09:39. > :09:45.cloud. Tomorrow is mostly cloudy but mild, a little warm front bringing

:09:46. > :09:48.warm conditions. Friday night into Saturday this brings brighter

:09:49. > :09:52.one front again on Sunday victims one front again on Sunday victims

:09:53. > :09:59.cloud. Throughout pressure is high and that means very little in the

:10:00. > :10:04.way of potential rain. Tonight we have got the weak front which will

:10:05. > :10:07.bring patchy light rain and drizzle from the north-west. Listing is over

:10:08. > :10:16.the Pennines. Lowest temperatures around six or seven. Cloudy and damp

:10:17. > :10:21.on Thursday morning but any rain and drizzle slips upwards. Mr Lutz and

:10:22. > :10:25.it might brighten up in Eastern and south-eastern parts of Yorkshire.

:10:26. > :10:33.Temperatures higher than today, 15 Celsius. Through this evening and

:10:34. > :10:38.Thursday evening into Thursday night, another week weather front

:10:39. > :10:44.will bring patchy rain down but small amounts. A good deal of dry

:10:45. > :10:46.weather. By first light on Friday morning some breaks in the cloud

:10:47. > :10:51.particularly across eastern Yorkshire. Friday looks rather

:10:52. > :10:57.cloudy but mostly dry with a few brighter spells. Brighter but cooler

:10:58. > :11:00.on Saturday. Sunshine. More cloud on Sunday but mostly dry. But as that

:11:01. > :11:01.from us. I will leave you with the summary.

:11:02. > :11:03.going into the weekend as well. A similar story across the UK. Thomas

:11:04. > :11:14.matter has that story. Good evening, before we get to the

:11:15. > :11:20.forecast, I want to show you a map which depicts how dry it has been

:11:21. > :11:25.during the course of April. Brown is below average rainfall, blue is

:11:26. > :11:29.above average. You can see how Brown the map is. Some areas in the south,

:11:30. > :11:30.some counties have only seen a few percent so
