:00:00. > :00:00.Going head to head - the feminist leader taking

:00:00. > :00:00.on the Conservative MP with the biggest majority

:00:07. > :00:11.And Ched Evans - the footballer cleared of rape -

:00:12. > :00:12.is set to return to Sheffield United.

:00:13. > :00:17.We'll have live reaction from the city.

:00:18. > :00:19.Some big April showers in the next 24 hours.

:00:20. > :00:22.Hail, thunder, even a bit of snow thrown in for good measure.

:00:23. > :00:34.The MP for Shipley has defended his stance on women's

:00:35. > :00:38.rights after a prominent feminist announced she'll stand against him

:00:39. > :00:43.Sophie Walker - the leader of the Women's Equality Party -

:00:44. > :00:45.claims Mr Davies has led a "self-indulgent anti-women

:00:46. > :00:50.Today, he challenged Ms Walker to back up claims

:00:51. > :00:56.Here's our political reporter James Vincent.

:00:57. > :00:59.He's the backbencher from a well established political force.

:01:00. > :01:02.She is the leader of a brand-new party and their argument

:01:03. > :01:08.Philip Davies, the incumbent MP, has taken the privilege

:01:09. > :01:12.of being a local MP for Shipley to create his own personal national

:01:13. > :01:19.This is just a publicity stunt for the Women and Equalities Party.

:01:20. > :01:22.It has nothing to do with the people of Shipley or presenting

:01:23. > :01:26.If anybody here is doing stunts, it's Philip Davies.

:01:27. > :01:29.This is a man who regularly wastes parliamentary time by talking out

:01:30. > :01:31.important bills including ones to end violence

:01:32. > :01:36.I have asked the Women and Equalities Party to name just

:01:37. > :01:40.one thing in 12 years as the MP that I have ever said which would call

:01:41. > :01:43.for women to be treated less favourably than men and they haven't

:01:44. > :01:46.been able to find one thing in 12 years as an MP.

:01:47. > :01:55.Philip Davies has a strong Conservative majority in Shipley,

:01:56. > :01:58.but the Women's Equality Party says he is their biggest target,

:01:59. > :02:03.Mr Davies said that if they were really about equality,

:02:04. > :02:05.the word "women" wouldn't be in the title of the party.

:02:06. > :02:08.Plenty to argue about there, but voters in Shipley have

:02:09. > :02:11.Making sure that children's centres like this get funded

:02:12. > :02:14.because it is so important for children to access

:02:15. > :02:18.Brexit is the most important thing to me.

:02:19. > :02:22.However, being a father and a grandfather, I can see

:02:23. > :02:27.all the services that are being cut, especially for the younger end.

:02:28. > :02:29.Labour came second in Shipley in 2015.

:02:30. > :02:32.They are suspicious of a new party coming in.

:02:33. > :02:35.Anybody that is trying to get more attention about women's

:02:36. > :02:39.However, targeting Shipley is basically opportunism.

:02:40. > :02:44.I don't understand what their policies are on housing,

:02:45. > :02:48.And really, if you are putting forward a member of Parliament,

:02:49. > :02:51.it ought to be a member of Parliament that is going to be

:02:52. > :02:54.fighting for those constituents on all issues and I'm not seeing

:02:55. > :02:57.The Women's Equality Party would normally expect some level

:02:58. > :03:00.of local support but the activists you would think would be

:03:01. > :03:04.on their side are not really, because they feel the party's leader

:03:05. > :03:10.Whilst we do share a lot of empathy with the issues

:03:11. > :03:13.of the Women's Equality Party, of course, because of Philip's

:03:14. > :03:18.antifeminist stance has provoked us to start in the first place,

:03:19. > :03:22.their approach has jumped the gun and I think there was a real

:03:23. > :03:25.opportunity to find unity here and unfortunately,

:03:26. > :03:28.they haven't worked in a unified way, they have just come

:03:29. > :03:36.Shipley's campaign trail might just be one to watch.

:03:37. > :03:40.No party manifestos yet, but it's been a lively start

:03:41. > :03:54.Absolutely. Early days. Philip Davies has one of the biggest

:03:55. > :04:00.majorities in West Yorkshire. 9000. He has welcomed the Women's Equality

:04:01. > :04:04.Party to challenge him. There is a suggestion that the Greens and the

:04:05. > :04:08.Liberal Democrats may not field candidates to give the Women's

:04:09. > :04:16.Equality Party a clear run. Labour have given us the idea that they

:04:17. > :04:19.will be fielding a party there needs to be some discussion. Labour pledge

:04:20. > :04:28.today about the Battle of all grieve? Yes, 1984, 95 minus arrested

:04:29. > :04:39.after clashes with the police. Large-scale concerns -- 95 coal

:04:40. > :04:45.miners. Large sale scale concerns about how this was handed. Jeremy

:04:46. > :04:47.Corbyn said there will be an inquiry if Labour win the next election.

:04:48. > :04:50.And when injustices are historic and have occurred some while ago,

:04:51. > :04:56.it does not diminish the reality of that injustice all

:04:57. > :05:12.So we will set up enquiries into blacklisting and into Orgreave.

:05:13. > :05:20.That will be an easier promise for Jeremy Corbyn to make. There are

:05:21. > :05:24.concerns. The opponents of labour, people who would say it is an easy

:05:25. > :05:29.promise, will say that Labour have been in power since the Battle of

:05:30. > :05:35.Orgreave in 1984, why did they have an inquiry when they were in charge.

:05:36. > :05:38.Early days as you said earlier, a busy few weeks.

:05:39. > :05:40.In other news from around the region...

:05:41. > :05:42.A 30-year-old man from Batley who tried to join

:05:43. > :05:44.has pleaded guilty to terror offences.

:05:45. > :05:46.Ghulam Hussain also gave an undercover officer advice

:05:47. > :05:49.on how to join the group - as well as ?160

:05:50. > :05:51.to fund his accommodation when travelling to Syria.

:05:52. > :05:55.A 48-hour strike by RMT union members working

:05:56. > :05:57.for Virgin Trains East Coast has been suspended.

:05:58. > :06:00.The strike was due to take place this Friday and Saturday,

:06:01. > :06:03.the same weekend as the Tour de Yorkshire.

:06:04. > :06:07.The RMT union says it has suspended the action following progress

:06:08. > :06:12.which has been made in talks with the rail operator.

:06:13. > :06:14.The company behind the project to resurface roads and pavements

:06:15. > :06:18.in Sheffield has revealed it has received 5,500 complaints

:06:19. > :06:22.More than 2,000 complaints were about street lighting -

:06:23. > :06:24.500 of them were about concerns over the removal and

:06:25. > :06:29.Amey say they take all complaints seriously and work

:06:30. > :06:37.The BBC understands Sheffield United have agreed to re-sign Ched Evans.

:06:38. > :06:40.Evans last played for the Blades in 2012 before a rape conviction

:06:41. > :06:44.saw him serve two and a half years in prison.

:06:45. > :06:47.He was found not guilty at a retrial.

:06:48. > :06:50.Rob Station from BBC Radio Sheffield broke this story this

:06:51. > :07:06.Talk us through what has been agreed. A fee of ?500,000 has been

:07:07. > :07:11.agreed between Sheffield United and Chesterfield. He will have a medical

:07:12. > :07:15.this week. This could move quickly. There could be an agreement between

:07:16. > :07:20.Ched Evans and Sheffield United by the end of the week. They cannot

:07:21. > :07:27.officially sign him until the transfer window opens. They can

:07:28. > :07:34.certainly agree a contract. What has the response been to the news? In

:07:35. > :07:39.terms of the phoning in, it was positive. Most Sheffield United fans

:07:40. > :07:43.were pleased to see him coming back to Bramall Lane. He is a striker

:07:44. > :07:48.with pedigree and loss of Blades fans remember when he was a striker.

:07:49. > :07:53.It was five years ago, but he scored lots of goals for them in 2012 and

:07:54. > :07:57.they would like to see him back. One of two calls were unhappy, they were

:07:58. > :08:04.taking attention away from an attempt -- a summer of celebration.

:08:05. > :08:11.They could become legal in champions on Saturday. They feel less this is

:08:12. > :08:13.a distraction. -- they feel that this is a distraction. Thank you

:08:14. > :08:14.very much. Former Leeds United stars have

:08:15. > :08:16.gathered for the premiere of a new film celebrating the club's

:08:17. > :08:19.glory days under Howard Wilkinson. It's called Do You Want to Win

:08:20. > :08:22.and it's headlining Wilkinson and former player

:08:23. > :08:25.Vinnie Jones told us they're hopeful the team of 2017 can still make it

:08:26. > :08:33.into the Premier League. I don't think you should dwell

:08:34. > :08:37.in the past too much. I think you should roll your sleeves

:08:38. > :08:40.up and push forward. We've got a great young manager,

:08:41. > :08:45.fresh, ambitious, good coach, And the big news of the year is that

:08:46. > :09:09.Paul has got an Instagram account! I have, but I would do as many

:09:10. > :09:22.selfies as you! The next 24 hours is looking very chilly. The wind is

:09:23. > :09:26.coming all the way down from the Arctic it will create a lot of

:09:27. > :09:31.instability so very heavy showers. A glimmer of hope, a long way off,

:09:32. > :09:35.there is Saturday and a ridge of high pressure. If this is correct,

:09:36. > :09:40.the start of the bank holiday weekend should be very nice. Great

:09:41. > :09:46.news for the Tour de Yorkshire. Though showers drifting towards the

:09:47. > :09:50.Peak District. As where they will become confined to coastal areas.

:09:51. > :09:57.Probably over the North York Moors by the end of the night. Inland, dry

:09:58. > :10:01.with clear periods. Widespread frost. Some areas seeing

:10:02. > :10:07.temperatures below freezing. There will be icy patches on untreated

:10:08. > :10:11.surfaces. A sunny start tomorrow and a cold one. Showers in the course of

:10:12. > :10:16.the morning and shower clouds in the afternoon will develop and there

:10:17. > :10:26.will be hell and thunder. Some sleet and snow as well. Some sunshine in

:10:27. > :10:30.between but it will feel very cold. Though showers really continue to

:10:31. > :10:34.run in from the North, through Tuesday evening and through Tuesday

:10:35. > :10:39.night as well. An ongoing risk of those wintry showers giving a slight

:10:40. > :10:43.covering in places and there will be a nice problem as well first thing

:10:44. > :10:49.on Wednesday morning. It will be a bright day on Wednesday with some

:10:50. > :10:54.sunny spells and showers. The showers getting confined to eastern

:10:55. > :10:58.parts. Thursday, patchy rain and then Friday settles down and the

:10:59. > :11:00.start of next week is looking fine with sunshine.

:11:01. > :11:02.That is it from us, some rain. More with the national

:11:03. > :11:09.forecast now. Good evening. It's been turning

:11:10. > :11:12.colder from the north so far today. It's been cold enough for

:11:13. > :11:16.significant snow in northern Scotland. This was mid afternoon.

:11:17. > :11:22.More recently it's been blowing around over the tops of the

:11:23. > :11:26.mountains. Snow in April not necessarily unusual but it's usually

:11:27. > :11:29.unwelcome. The colder air coming in behind the front which clears

:11:30. > :11:34.towards the near continent, opening the floodgates to this Coldstream of

:11:35. > :11:38.air all the way from the Arctic. That cold air increasingly cold air

:11:39. > :11:42.will spread its way across all parts tonight and will be with us tomorrow

:11:43. > :11:45.and Wednesday as well. A cold night ahead of us. A widespread frost

:11:46. > :11:48.developing and further wintry showers. Most in Scotland and the

:11:49. > :11:53.north-east of England too. Cold winds as well. Maybe a few wintry

:11:54. > :11:54.showers in Northern Ireland and Wales, maybe
