:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening and welcome to the late Look North.

:00:00. > :00:08.Victims of sex abuse at Sheffield City Council in line

:00:09. > :00:17.for thousands in compensation after the conviction of Roger Dodds.

:00:18. > :00:21.And a dramatic win for Huddersfield town against Sheffield Wednesday

:00:22. > :00:25.which takes them to the play-off semifinals at Wembley -- finals at

:00:26. > :00:29.Wembley. A dreadful day, big improvement on

:00:30. > :00:39.Thursday but what about the weekend? Join me for the live forecast.

:00:40. > :00:44.We will be crossing live to Tanya for reaction to that dramatic for

:00:45. > :00:49.putting shortly. First, the menus of day. -- main news of the day.

:00:50. > :00:52.Sheffield City Council must pay at least ?90,000 in compensation -

:00:53. > :00:55.plus tens of thousands more in loss of earnings - to a former employee

:00:56. > :00:57.who was sexually abused by a council official.

:00:58. > :00:59.Richard Rowe sued the council after being assaulted

:01:00. > :01:03.You might find some of the details in Tom Ingall's report distressing.

:01:04. > :01:06.A sexual predator with the power of patronage over his victims.

:01:07. > :01:10.40 years ago, Roger Dodds worked in the heart of Sheffield

:01:11. > :01:14.The young men he abused needed grants for their

:01:15. > :01:19.Very gradually, his left hand started to find its way

:01:20. > :01:24.This man was assualted at his very first meeting with Dodds.

:01:25. > :01:30.He was waived his right to anonymity and has now

:01:31. > :01:32.successfully sued Sheffield City Council.

:01:33. > :01:35.He has been awarded ?90,000, plus an amount still to be

:01:36. > :01:39.decided in respect of lost earnings.

:01:40. > :01:42.Their attitude has been very tough, very hard,

:01:43. > :01:53.We have asked specific questions and they have answered

:01:54. > :01:59.Complaints about Dodds were first raised with the council

:02:00. > :02:03.He was moved to a different job which allowed him

:02:04. > :02:08.In 1993, following another investigation, he was allowed

:02:09. > :02:15.In 2008, the council investigated again.

:02:16. > :02:21.Three years ago, new allegations came to light.

:02:22. > :02:23.In February Dodds was finally sentenced to 16

:02:24. > :02:26.We would never defend the indefensible and we have never

:02:27. > :02:29.failed to accept responsibility despite the fact that this happened

:02:30. > :02:33.We wholly accept the settlement that the Judge Robinson made today.

:02:34. > :02:37.We have made a raft of changes in policies and procedures

:02:38. > :02:39.at Sheffield City Council since Roger Dodds

:02:40. > :02:48.Today's judgment has helped to ease Richard's mind.

:02:49. > :02:50.He believes there may be others Dodds inflicted

:02:51. > :02:52.himself upon who have yet to tell their story.

:02:53. > :02:55.With the frequency of what I observed, and what others

:02:56. > :02:57.have since commented on and with what they observed

:02:58. > :03:05.of students going through Dodds' office, another ten, 20 or 100

:03:06. > :03:11.Dodds is barely months into his sentence.

:03:12. > :03:13.Tonight, a final revelation - he is still being paid

:03:14. > :03:28.Now to tonight's big sports story. Have you been on the edge of your

:03:29. > :03:31.seat? Huddersfield town have won the Championship play-off semifinal

:03:32. > :03:36.against Sheffield Wednesday. A tense match ending in penalties as both

:03:37. > :03:40.Yorkshire side bid to be one win away from the Premier League, a step

:03:41. > :03:43.up estimated to be worth ?200 million. Tanya is in Hillsborough,

:03:44. > :03:50.it doesn't get more tense than this, does it? No, it has been quite some

:03:51. > :03:54.evening, it has been draining, it has been exciting and dramatic. The

:03:55. > :03:59.first half, quite frankly, was pretty dull. The second half of this

:04:00. > :04:01.type really got going. It was Sheffield Wednesday who came out

:04:02. > :04:07.with more intent and it was them that finally got a goal. They got

:04:08. > :04:11.the initial breakthrough, Steven Fletcher rising to meet Barry

:04:12. > :04:16.Bannan's cross to head the ball home. That gave them a real lift and

:04:17. > :04:21.Wednesday looked like they might get a second but it also opened the game

:04:22. > :04:28.up, as Huddersfield town went hunting for a reply of their own and

:04:29. > :04:33.eventually they got it. The ball across and Nahki Wells somehow got

:04:34. > :04:37.the ball home. They kind of have to post a little bit then and we found

:04:38. > :04:40.ourselves headed for extra time -- huffed and puffed a little bit.

:04:41. > :04:44.There were plenty of chances in extra time but nobody could make the

:04:45. > :04:49.breakthrough, so we had the dreaded penalty shoot out. Huddersfield town

:04:50. > :04:55.scored their first, Sheffield Wednesday stepped up to take their

:04:56. > :05:00.first. Sam Hutchinson was the man and it was saved. So early advantage

:05:01. > :05:04.to Huddersfield town. Everybody then went on to score there is, so Jack

:05:05. > :05:11.Payne stepped up, 22 years old, he could have sealed it for town. But

:05:12. > :05:18.he failed. Then Forestieri, so often a hero for Sheffield Wednesday, had

:05:19. > :05:23.his say. He missed his, 4-3 to Huddersfield town. They are going to

:05:24. > :05:27.Wembley, it has been an incredible season for Huddersfield town. Nobody

:05:28. > :05:30.at the beginning of the season would have tipped them for promotion. They

:05:31. > :05:36.have been brilliant and head to Wembley to take on readying for a

:05:37. > :05:39.place in the Premier League. For the Sheffield Wednesday fans, it's been

:05:40. > :05:42.a heartbreaking evening. Yes, looking very sombre as they leave

:05:43. > :05:44.the ground tonight. Tanya, thank you.

:05:45. > :05:49.The ashes of Moors Murderer Ian Brady will not be scattered

:05:50. > :05:51.on Saddleworth Moor, where he disposed of

:05:52. > :05:55.The assurance was made by Brady's solicitor during a Coroner's Court

:05:56. > :05:59.The notorious paedophile and child killer died on Monday at a secure

:06:00. > :06:03.There's been a slight drop in the number of people in Yorkshire

:06:04. > :06:07.Figures for January to March show unemployment has fallen by 3,000,

:06:08. > :06:10.compared with figures released last month.

:06:11. > :06:13.That makes a total of 134,000 people out

:06:14. > :06:17.of work in the region - a rate of 4.9%.

:06:18. > :06:20.Disappointing news for York-based chocolate giant Nestle today.

:06:21. > :06:23.The company has lost its appeal to trademark the shape

:06:24. > :06:25.of its four-fingered KitKat bar in the UK.

:06:26. > :06:28.Nestle insists the shape is iconic and should be protected,

:06:29. > :06:32.but for many years rival Cadbury has fought against their bid

:06:33. > :06:38.It was the turn of the Liberal Democrats today

:06:39. > :06:41.to launch their manifesto - promising a referendum on any deal

:06:42. > :06:46.They're putting constituencies which voted Remain in last year's

:06:47. > :06:49.referendum at the top of their hit list.

:06:50. > :06:51.That includes Harrogate and Knaresborough.

:06:52. > :06:55.It's seven years since the Lib Dems lost the seat to the Tories -

:06:56. > :07:04.Three weeks to go, it is hard work keeping up with this election

:07:05. > :07:07.but I suppose that is why coffee was invented in the first place.

:07:08. > :07:10.Today has been about the Lib Dems and one word

:07:11. > :07:12.dominates their manifesto - well, it's actually two words

:07:13. > :07:17.They're the only party to offer a second referendum.

:07:18. > :07:19.You've bought your sandwich, you've got your dinner sorted,

:07:20. > :07:24.I do want another EU referendum because I think people have made

:07:25. > :07:29.So is it a vote winner for the Lib Dems?

:07:30. > :07:38.Absolutely idiotic, we have had one, people have voted and we ought

:07:39. > :07:52.I don't believe they ought to, I think they just go

:07:53. > :07:55.democracy so I'm not entirely sure on the strength of that alone

:07:56. > :07:59.for the manifesto that would make me vote for them.

:08:00. > :08:01.The Lib Dems only hold two seats in Yorkshire,

:08:02. > :08:05.that's one of the reasons why Harrogate is so important and now

:08:06. > :08:08.the second Brexit referendum will go down well with people here,

:08:09. > :08:11.because Harrogate narrowly voted to remain, but do

:08:12. > :08:15.they have the stomach for more tax rises?

:08:16. > :08:18.The Lib Dems' rainy day fund would be for the NHS

:08:19. > :08:22.and to spend more money on that, they want an extra penny of tax

:08:23. > :08:27.I don't know much about it because I have just been at work,

:08:28. > :08:31.so I haven't seen it but I think overall, it's a good idea, yet.

:08:32. > :08:33.Lib Dem idea, they just published it today.

:08:34. > :08:38.Because my son went to university last time.

:08:39. > :08:41.Yes, I think it would be a good idea.

:08:42. > :08:43.Liberal Democrat plan, would that make you vote for them?

:08:44. > :08:48.Harrogate and Knaresborough is a key seat for the Liberal Democrats.

:08:49. > :08:53.Is a target for them, it's a seat they have held before.

:08:54. > :08:55.It's a Conservative place at the moment, though.

:08:56. > :08:58.They've got a 16,000 majority but it's one of the places

:08:59. > :09:01.that the Lib Dems think they can fight back.

:09:02. > :09:03.They have, of course, only two constituencies

:09:04. > :09:06.That's Sheffield Hallam and Leeds North West.

:09:07. > :09:13.They are hoping Harrogate will be a third.

:09:14. > :09:15.There was a big play-off match tonight in rugby union too.

:09:16. > :09:19.Yorkshire Carnegie were beaten 29-18 by London Irish in the first leg

:09:20. > :09:22.of the Championship play-off final at Headingley.

:09:23. > :09:25.The second leg is next Wednesday night and the winner will be

:09:26. > :09:38.European Tour edge of your say tonight, have you recovered?

:09:39. > :09:43.I haven't done a forecast, I have them watching football! Only joking.

:09:44. > :09:48.Tomorrow is a much better day, sunny periods with perhaps a few showers,

:09:49. > :09:52.but the weather that brought all the rain today is over France and the

:09:53. > :09:57.near continent and it looks like another wave will develop and bring

:09:58. > :10:00.further rain on Friday. We still have the rain hanging on towards the

:10:01. > :10:07.coast. It will eventually push into the North Sea and it looks set to be

:10:08. > :10:12.dry and a clear and quiet night in prospect, most temperatures down to

:10:13. > :10:15.five or 6 degrees. So beautiful start tomorrow, some patchy and low

:10:16. > :10:20.cloud across the Pennines, most of it bright. You may see one or two

:10:21. > :10:26.showers developing that the emphasis is on a much better day, with many

:10:27. > :10:30.of us drive. Top temperatures not bad, 17 Celsius, feeling very

:10:31. > :10:35.pleasant with a light westerly breeze. The showers will possibly

:10:36. > :10:39.last into the evening and for a time other night, but generally fine for

:10:40. > :10:43.much of Thursday night but then that weather front I talked about taking

:10:44. > :10:47.another swipe at us and those showery outbreaks of rain setting in

:10:48. > :10:56.by eight or nine o'clock on Friday morning. So some uncertainty about

:10:57. > :10:59.the forecast but it does look as though Friday could turn out to be a

:11:00. > :11:01.cloudy and at times wet day. Saturday looks showery, Sunday

:11:02. > :11:02.perhaps the best day of the weekend. That is it, I

:11:03. > :11:10.showers. But it will be a bit warmer.

:11:11. > :11:17.Before today, many gardeners were crying out for rain. Some of the

:11:18. > :11:22.those garden may now be water logged. And Lincolnshire was one of

:11:23. > :11:29.wettest places with 40 millimetres. That is nearly a month's worth of

:11:30. > :11:35.rain in 24 hours. Some difficult travelling conditions. Some parts of

:11:36. > :11:42.north-west England stayed dry. This was the main rain-maker. It is

:11:43. > :11:45.pulling away. Tomorrow a day sunshine and showers and that

:11:46. > :11:50.freshing feeling air will filter into those parts that were muggy

:11:51. > :11:55.today. It was 25 Celsius in Kent. A different feel, but still pleasant

:11:56. > :11:59.when the sun appears tomorrow. Still some rain in the east of England.

:12:00. > :12:04.Become light and patchy tonight. Clearer in the north and west. Still

:12:05. > :12:06.the odd shower in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales and western

:12:07. > :12:07.England. Turning
