:03:58. > :04:00.person to be featured is West Yorkshire's highest

:04:13. > :04:15.is the most senior officer from a black or ethnic minority

:04:16. > :04:17.background in West Yorkshire Police. Only 5% of officers come

:04:18. > :04:19.from BME communities. Mabs grew up in Bradford, and is now

:04:20. > :04:27.district commander for Wakefield. It does make me feel immensely proud

:04:28. > :04:31.as to what I have achieved. What's really important for me is,

:04:32. > :04:34.having achieved what I have achieved, I try and make it easier

:04:35. > :04:37.for others that are Most days start like this,

:04:38. > :04:43.briefing the team. Thank you for your attendance

:04:44. > :04:45.in the leadership forum. Mabs is foremost a police officer,

:04:46. > :04:49.but he feels he also has a duty I understand being sat there and not

:04:50. > :04:54.having those aspirations, not having the confidence,

:04:55. > :04:57.thinking that you could be the next police officer,

:04:58. > :04:59.you could go and be the teacher And it's great that people are doing

:05:00. > :05:05.that now, so that these kids can Assembly at Oasis Academy

:05:18. > :05:21.Naz Shah. Highlighting the importance of role

:05:22. > :05:25.models in the BME communities. I think that assembly was really

:05:26. > :05:28.inspiring and it gave me confidence It's really inspiring,

:05:29. > :05:33.thinking that as he could become It makes it easier slightly for us

:05:34. > :05:38.to know that it does get To look up to someone as a role

:05:39. > :05:42.model like Mabs, it's amazing. It won't be long until the teenagers

:05:43. > :05:45.are looking for jobs but the unemployment rate in BME

:05:46. > :05:47.communities in Yorkshire This new project will promote

:05:48. > :05:54.the stories of successful people who We've got a lot of high profile

:05:55. > :06:01.individuals that we need to recognise and highlight,

:06:02. > :06:03.so people that know we're a great city, we doing really well,

:06:04. > :06:06.we've got people from Bradford who move onto things,

:06:07. > :06:08.but still come from Bradford. And who knows, maybe today's

:06:09. > :06:15.assembly has inspired the next Chief Superintendent,

:06:16. > :06:20.MP or business leader. Several Yorkshire riders

:06:21. > :06:23.are competing in the cyclo-cross World Championships

:06:24. > :06:27.in Luxemborg this weekend. Huddersfield's Amira Mellor

:06:28. > :06:30.is in great form, ahead Our National under 23 men's

:06:31. > :06:36.champion Billy Harding has one of the hardest jobs,

:06:37. > :06:40.in a tough race category on Sunday. And Leeds teenager Tom Pidcock

:06:41. > :06:44.is hot favourite for Sheffield's Masters Champion,

:06:45. > :06:51.Danny Willett, took time out last night to encourage the young golfers

:06:52. > :06:53.of the future. He donned the famous green jacket

:06:54. > :06:56.to hand out the awards It's aimed at making the game more

:06:57. > :07:01.accessible to youngsters who otherwise may never get

:07:02. > :07:04.the chance to give it a go. Most of it is aimed at the really

:07:05. > :07:08.young kids in trying to get them just to pick up a club

:07:09. > :07:11.and if they don't like it, carry on, go and play football,

:07:12. > :07:13.go and play cricket. But if they really enjoy it,

:07:14. > :07:16.then they can move on and speak to the guys and hopefully,

:07:17. > :07:19.within the next few years, we can move it forward

:07:20. > :07:22.as to where we can help some kids who really enjoy it with a little

:07:23. > :07:33.bit of coaching and other things. Was freezing last night?

:07:34. > :07:37.It feels freezing today but it is not as cold as it was yesterday. A

:07:38. > :07:41.lot of cloud around this afternoon and another very chilly afternoon to

:07:42. > :07:46.come, temperatures set to climb over the weekend. Rain is expected

:07:47. > :07:50.overnight so tomorrow is less cold. As we work into the early part of

:07:51. > :07:56.February, we are looking at milder conditions but also unsettled as

:07:57. > :08:01.well. As we go we have got cloud out there, some breaks across the

:08:02. > :08:06.Yorkshire Dales, and perhaps some along the east coast but this

:08:07. > :08:12.afternoon it will be grey across the Pennines, mist elsewhere. It will

:08:13. > :08:15.feel damp out there although I do not think there will be any real

:08:16. > :08:22.rain to speak. Temperatures getting up to around two or three degrees.

:08:23. > :08:31.Still feeling pretty cold. Through this evening and overnight, we are

:08:32. > :08:38.expecting some name, it will not be as -- some rain, not as cold as last

:08:39. > :08:43.night. Any early cloud and rain will move away eastwards, it might take

:08:44. > :08:47.time to the Far East but elsewhere we should see some sunny spells and

:08:48. > :08:52.three showers sprinkled across the Pennines, and temperatures in the

:08:53. > :08:56.high of six or seven. The odd wintry sharp perhaps.
