:00:00. > 3:59:59in the near future at least. But hopefully at least some brightness

:00:00. > :00:00.at times. The main news from

:00:00. > :00:00.around Yorkshire today. Re-opened - a year

:00:00. > :00:07.on and ?5 million later, And fears that free range eggs may

:00:08. > :00:15.soon disappear from Yorkshire shops A West Yorkshire bridge

:00:16. > :00:33.which was severely damaged by the Boxing Day floods in 2015 has

:00:34. > :00:38.completely re-opened today. Repairs to Elland Bridge

:00:39. > :00:41.cost around ?5 million Pedestrians and cyclists

:00:42. > :00:46.were allowed to use it last month, It comes on the day politicians

:00:47. > :00:51.in Leeds are calling for more money Charlotte Leeming has been to see

:00:52. > :00:54.what difference it will make. Well, you can see behind me people

:00:55. > :00:57.are poised to cross the bridge. Loads of people out

:00:58. > :01:02.here for the reopening. A real party atmosphere,

:01:03. > :01:06.because it's been a long wait. We're joined by Councillor

:01:07. > :01:08.Tim Swift from the council. They've waited a long time

:01:09. > :01:11.for this, haven't they? And, obviously, today

:01:12. > :01:15.is a fantastic day for Elland, Why so long, a lot of

:01:16. > :01:19.people have been asking? This has been a really

:01:20. > :01:22.complicated project. A huge number of utilities

:01:23. > :01:27.from broadband to water to Of course, we wanted

:01:28. > :01:31.to get it done quickly but also we wanted to make

:01:32. > :01:34.sure it was done right. This is a bridge we can be proud

:01:35. > :01:37.of that's going to serve We know some businesses

:01:38. > :01:40.have suffered and also people just

:01:41. > :01:42.taking their kids to school have faced a massive

:01:43. > :01:45.diversion, haven't they? Yeah, it's been very

:01:46. > :01:47.difficult for people. We're really grateful

:01:48. > :01:50.for people for how patient and understanding

:01:51. > :01:52.they have been and today, And now we'll be working

:01:53. > :01:56.with the Elland community to make sure the town gets a real boost

:01:57. > :01:59.and really bounces back and that's why it

:02:00. > :02:04.took a long time. Are you now confident,

:02:05. > :02:06.Councillor Swift, if we got terrible

:02:07. > :02:07.weather again, Yes, it's been designed very much

:02:08. > :02:11.in line with what happened on Boxing Day, so although it's

:02:12. > :02:13.restored the appearance of the bridge, obviously the structure is

:02:14. > :02:17.a modern structure underneath which will be really robust

:02:18. > :02:19.and can cope with the worst the weather

:02:20. > :02:21.can throw at it. Well, it really is a fantastic

:02:22. > :02:24.atmosphere here after a very difficult few months and I

:02:25. > :02:28.think the party might go on for a while here, but they need to clear

:02:29. > :02:31.out of the way and then the traffic Part of Leeds city centre was closed

:02:32. > :02:38.off overnight following reports The incident started around 9:40pm

:02:39. > :02:43.last night following a number of reports of a man in the area

:02:44. > :02:47.with what looked like a hand gun. Roads around the Sainsbury's

:02:48. > :02:50.supermarket on the Headrow were cordoned off and the area

:02:51. > :02:53.was searched by the police. Officers arrested a 25-year-old man

:02:54. > :02:56.and the cordon remained West Yorkshire Police say

:02:57. > :03:00.the man wasn't carrying a gun when he was arrested,

:03:01. > :03:03.and a search of the supermarket and surrounding areas

:03:04. > :03:09.has failed to find any weapons. A grandmother and two children

:03:10. > :03:11.have been rescued from a house fire in

:03:12. > :03:13.South Yorkshire. Firefighters helped free

:03:14. > :03:16.them from the property on Barnsley Road in Cudworth

:03:17. > :03:19.in the early hours of this morning. They were taken to hospital

:03:20. > :03:22.suffering from the effects Two more people have been arrested

:03:23. > :03:27.by police in Sheffield, over the council's tree felling

:03:28. > :03:31.programme taking the total arrests South Yorkshire Police say two

:03:32. > :03:39.people were arrested on Chippinghouse Road on suspicion

:03:40. > :03:41.of preventing lawful work under legislation created

:03:42. > :03:51.to curb trade union activity. Sheffield residents are being

:03:52. > :03:53.invited to share their views about HS2 at a community event

:03:54. > :03:55.in the city today. It's part of a series

:03:56. > :03:58.of consultations by the team tasked with the construction

:03:59. > :03:59.of the project. The event will take place

:04:00. > :04:06.at the Aston Hall Hotel There are fears that free range eggs

:04:07. > :04:10.may soon be unavailable Restrictions were put in place

:04:11. > :04:14.on the movement of birds within this 10km zone

:04:15. > :04:18.after bird flu was found in a small backyard flock

:04:19. > :04:21.near Malham last month. A North Yorkshire producer

:04:22. > :04:24.has told the BBC that if the restrictions continue,

:04:25. > :04:29.they'll have to re-label their eggs It comes as people are being

:04:30. > :04:34.reminded they could be fined up to ?5,000 if they don't keep

:04:35. > :04:37.their chickens indoors. Our correspondent

:04:38. > :04:41.John Cundy reports. Government restrictions mean poultry

:04:42. > :04:45.farmers across England are having to keep their birds indoors

:04:46. > :04:46.to prevent the spread of avian flu currently

:04:47. > :04:51.identified at sites including in North Yorkshire,

:04:52. > :04:54.Lincolnshire and Wales. Such restrictions have prevented

:04:55. > :04:57.the threat of bird flu pandemics But free-range farmers

:04:58. > :05:04.like Edward Boothman in Keighley say the dangers of bird flu spreading

:05:05. > :05:07.lay not the big producers like himself, but more

:05:08. > :05:10.with smallholders. People with a lot,

:05:11. > :05:13.the commercial men, It's the people who, you know,

:05:14. > :05:21.people who've for hens for eggs for their breakfast

:05:22. > :05:23.and that sort of thing. People with a few hens in their back

:05:24. > :05:28.garden for the kids, For farmers like Edward Boothman,

:05:29. > :05:36.these are worrying times. We don't want wild birds getting

:05:37. > :05:38.to them because that's that would have been a lot

:05:39. > :05:45.healthier going out. I have birds that are outside

:05:46. > :05:48.but they're enclosed. It's a lot more work,

:05:49. > :05:52.but I do believe that Defra are going to review the

:05:53. > :05:55.situation at the end of February, end of this month, and hope fully,

:05:56. > :06:01.if there are no more outbreaks, And we hope it will be

:06:02. > :06:06.as soon as possible. As chairman of the UK Poultry Club,

:06:07. > :06:11.Edward Boothman's immediate concern is that the warnings

:06:12. > :06:13.of the possible spread of bird flu must get

:06:14. > :06:17.to all smallholders in the country who may

:06:18. > :06:25.not be so aware of the dangers. Still no official announcement

:06:26. > :06:28.on who will replace Alastair Cook as England Test captain,

:06:29. > :06:32.following his resignation on Monday. But it's already difficult to find

:06:33. > :06:35.anyone who doesn't consider this young Yorkshireman,

:06:36. > :06:38.Joe Root, to be the best Even Cook himself has

:06:39. > :06:43.backed Root today! But he does mention

:06:44. > :06:47.other possibles besides. You know, he's

:06:48. > :06:51.obviously got something about him He's got a huge amount of respect

:06:52. > :06:55.in the dressing room. You know, there's

:06:56. > :06:58.other people as well. I think Ben Stokes has got

:06:59. > :07:00.a leadership role I think the way he's

:07:01. > :07:03.improved and matured You know, he's one of those people

:07:04. > :07:07.that people gravitate to. Jos Buttler did an excellent

:07:08. > :07:13.job in Bangladesh. There's a good group

:07:14. > :07:19.of people pushing forward. We are still being threatened

:07:20. > :07:33.with the Beast from the East. I was called the pest from the West

:07:34. > :07:36.wants. But we are talking about the East. Cold air on the way. It has

:07:37. > :07:40.been quite chilly already today across Yorkshire. We have seen a

:07:41. > :07:44.pretty cloudy started the day and looking forward to the rest of the

:07:45. > :07:49.afternoon then, we will hang onto that great and cloudy weather.

:07:50. > :07:52.Fabrics of rain. This will be liked, patchy, you can see here on the

:07:53. > :07:56.graphic, a lot of dry weather around. As for the temperatures,

:07:57. > :08:00.four or five Celsius will just about do it for us this afternoon and that

:08:01. > :08:04.is when those temperatures actually manage to peak and that'll be for a

:08:05. > :08:08.short space of time as well. I think we could see the odd flurry of snow

:08:09. > :08:12.on higher ground. That's becoming more likely overnight and over the

:08:13. > :08:17.next couple of days. The map is turning blue so the temperature is

:08:18. > :08:23.taking a tumble down 2-1 or minus two Celsius. Again, largely dry. A

:08:24. > :08:27.risk of ice tomorrow morning so take care on untreated surfaces. Some of

:08:28. > :08:31.that light rain and drizzle nicked at way across towards the West but

:08:32. > :08:35.keeping company to this now is cold air so we are more likely to see

:08:36. > :08:39.some of that sleet, some of that snow. Zooming out then, high

:08:40. > :08:42.pressure in charge of things so that does mean that the weather will be

:08:43. > :08:47.mostly dry and pretty settled as well. That rotate around high

:08:48. > :08:52.pressure in a clockwise fashion and what that is actually helping to do

:08:53. > :08:56.at the moment is strong in cold air from the East because of the

:08:57. > :08:59.position of that high. So those temperatures are going to go right

:09:00. > :09:03.down over the next couple of days. Risk of snow mainly on high ground

:09:04. > :09:08.but I think as we look to the weekend, we are more likely to maybe

:09:09. > :09:12.see some of that file into lower levels but we could seek a court in

:09:13. > :09:17.the snow on the hills on Friday and on Saturday. By the time we get to

:09:18. > :09:19.Sunday, not quite as cold but we are going to need to wrap up. Watch out

:09:20. > :09:29.for that snow. The pest from the West and I are off

:09:30. > :09:44.to share a sandwich. I think you should bring back the quiff!

:09:45. > :09:49.When author Sir Terry Pratchett died,

:09:50. > :09:54.They called on Death to give Terry back.
