:00:54. > :00:58.Frida has vascular dementia, but she still loves swimming,

:00:59. > :01:03.so volunteer Liz Colling is helping keep Frida and her memories afloat.

:01:04. > :01:07.They were introduced by local Alzehimer's charity Side by Side.

:01:08. > :01:10.They match dementia sufferers with volunteers who enjoy the same

:01:11. > :01:14.things and can help them participate in the activities they are used to.

:01:15. > :01:16.We were matched because we both like swimming anyway,

:01:34. > :01:36.She has raised a family here and is a well-known figure

:01:37. > :01:40.locally as she has taught hundreds of schoolchildren swim.

:01:41. > :01:44.Getting back in the water is a way for her to reconnect with her past

:01:45. > :01:49.As our population ages, dementia will touch more

:01:50. > :01:57.lives than ever before, but it can be tackled side-by-side.

:01:58. > :01:59.Young Muslims have carried out a series of litter

:02:00. > :02:03.This group braved the rain in the Paige Hall area

:02:04. > :02:08.Similar clean-ups happened in Rotherham, Doncaster

:02:09. > :02:10.and Huddersfield, with hundreds of young people involved

:02:11. > :02:14.They wanted to improve community spirits and counter what they call

:02:15. > :02:20.We are trying to change the image that Islam has at the moment,

:02:21. > :02:23.which is obviously a very negative one, and we've only got a small

:02:24. > :02:26.minority that are ruining this image and we have so many Muslims that

:02:27. > :02:30.live peacefully and engage with our society in a positive manner.

:02:31. > :02:32.We are all coming together in such a simple task

:02:33. > :02:40.Almost 300 people, twice as many as last year,

:02:44. > :02:51.James Roberson went to meet some of those brave enough to take part.

:02:52. > :02:54.You need to plunge in if you are intending to swim at the Lido

:02:55. > :02:59.For some people, the 10 degree water temperature was still too cold,

:03:00. > :03:02.despite it being three times warmer than the air.

:03:03. > :03:05.This is the fourth year the parish council has opened

:03:06. > :03:11.I mean, I can't quite believe how many people we have had

:03:12. > :03:15.I mean, last year we had 150 and we have already had 80

:03:16. > :03:19.If you think that your intrepid reporter is crazy enough

:03:20. > :03:22.to get in there with them, I'm sorry, I'm not as

:03:23. > :03:29.My sister wanted to do it, so I kind of just came with her.

:03:30. > :03:33.I guess it is kind of the New Year, new you, get in one end

:03:34. > :03:36.of the water, come out a new man, she said, but...

:03:37. > :03:39.There are some crazy, people in bikinis, though!

:03:40. > :03:44.You can only go for a small amount of time, so I thought that would be

:03:45. > :03:50.With warming beverages on hand, this year's swim attracted 284 people,

:03:51. > :03:52.twice last year's total, and they hope to beat

:03:53. > :04:12.Now let's have a look at the weather prospects.

:04:13. > :04:15.Over the next couple of hours we will see the showers die away.

:04:16. > :04:17.The risk of some pace but plenty of sunshine around

:04:18. > :04:21.A very cold day, high temperatures of just four Celsius.

:04:22. > :04:30.A little workload around on Tuesday, but certainly staying very cold

:04:31. > :04:33.So there is a risk of ice first thing in the morning,

:04:34. > :04:36.They are largely confined to these coastal areas,

:04:37. > :04:39.so it will be a dry day for most of us with plenty

:04:40. > :04:44.but it is wintry sunshine and it will be a very cold day on Monday

:04:45. > :04:47.Over the next couple of days temperatures widely staying

:04:48. > :04:52.There is a little bit more cloud around on Tuesday and we will see

:04:53. > :04:54.highs of seven Celsius, but as we head towards

:04:55. > :04:58.temperatures take another depth, so a very cold start to the first

:04:59. > :05:00.highs of seven Celsius, but as we head towards

:05:01. > :05:05.We will be back tomorrow. Happy New Year.

:05:06. > :05:15.For many, New Year's Day was a shocker with all of that rain

:05:16. > :05:19.around. Tomorrow will be sunny, but it is getting colder. This is rain

:05:20. > :05:23.clearing from the south-east. These specks of white as snow mixed in

:05:24. > :05:26.with showers across parts of northern England, particularly

:05:27. > :05:31.across Scotland, low levels here. I say that they hazard in northern and

:05:32. > :05:36.eastern areas. I would not rule out slippery areas almost anywhere by

:05:37. > :05:40.the morning, by which time temperatures will be close to or

:05:41. > :05:44.below freezing in many places. A bright and sunny start, but still

:05:45. > :05:48.wintry showers, sliding down the North Sea coast. Some snow down at

:05:49. > :05:52.quite low levels to the north of Scotland. Here, the snow will turn

:05:53. > :05:57.to rain. Something milder creeping in off the Atlantic as it clouds

:05:58. > :06:02.over. Further south, despite that sunshine, it will feel cold. 3-5 is

:06:03. > :06:05.the best I can offer you, briefly, through the afternoon. Then

:06:06. > :06:07.temperatures fall away like a stone. Through the
