:00:39. > :00:41.show some trusts seeing huge rises in temporary staff

:00:42. > :00:46.Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust has seen its spend

:00:47. > :00:53.on agency medical staff rise by 212% to more than ?19 million.

:00:54. > :00:55.The Mid Yorkshire Trust, one of the region's biggest,

:00:56. > :01:00.has seen the total rise 235% to ?29 million.

:01:01. > :01:04.The NHS introduced caps in late 2015 on not only the amount hospitals

:01:05. > :01:07.could spend on agency health care staff but also on the amount

:01:08. > :01:10.agencies were allowed to charge the NHS for

:01:11. > :01:14.A move that was welcomed by the Harrogate trust.

:01:15. > :01:16.We've got a real focus on recruitment of staff to

:01:17. > :01:19.make sure we're filling up our establishment levels so we have

:01:20. > :01:22.less reliance on temporary and agency staff.

:01:23. > :01:25.The only reason we have agency staff in the first place

:01:26. > :01:29.is because we don't have enough permanent staff.

:01:30. > :01:32.The NHS says agency spending has fallen in three quarters

:01:33. > :01:36.of hospital trusts and that that's saved ?600 million

:01:37. > :01:38.nationally, however as our research has shown, in Yorkshire

:01:39. > :01:45.the spending for many on temporary staff is still far too high.

:01:46. > :01:48.Police are investigating the death of a man in Huddersfield.

:01:49. > :01:51.Officers were called to a house in the Quarmby Road area

:01:52. > :01:56.It's not known at this stage whether or not his

:01:57. > :02:02.Concerned relatives have launched a campaign to try to stop

:02:03. > :02:05.the closure of a council-run care home in Bradford.

:02:06. > :02:07.The residents could lose their places at Holme View dementia

:02:08. > :02:12.unit because the authority says it can't afford to update it.

:02:13. > :02:19.A bitterly cold Bradford day, leaden skies and biting winds.

:02:20. > :02:23.Inside Holme View Care Home, it's warm and comfortable,

:02:24. > :02:26.but this specialist dementia unit could be closed down

:02:27. > :02:32.It's a frightening prospect for the families of those who use it.

:02:36. > :02:43.which none of them really are aware of, I really don't know

:02:44. > :02:49.To even begin to think about what might happen if the

:02:50. > :02:52.likes of my cousin and some of the other residents,

:02:53. > :02:55.our loved ones, are moved from here, the consequences

:02:56. > :03:00.A petition against the closure has so far

:03:01. > :03:05.It was set up by relatives of people in the home

:03:06. > :03:09.who have also started an action group to fight the plans.

:03:10. > :03:12.22 people currently call this place home with another ten using its

:03:13. > :03:17.services and it's been rated good by the Care Quality Commission.

:03:18. > :03:19.But the issue isn't its performance,

:03:20. > :03:24.Bradford Councillor Val Slater told us today

:03:25. > :03:27.that when this home was originally constructed, building specification

:03:28. > :03:30.standards were quite different and that to upgrade it now

:03:31. > :03:32.would cost a lot of money and inconvenience.

:03:33. > :03:35.What will actually happen to Holme View care home

:03:36. > :03:42.in the future will be decided on in the summer.
