:00:04. > :00:07.Hello and welcome to Midlands Today, with Suzanne Virdee and Michael

:00:07. > :00:10.Collie. The headlines tonight:

:00:10. > :00:14.It costs very little and it could save babies' lives. The pain-free

:00:14. > :00:20.heart test that should be available for all newborns. We pick up so

:00:20. > :00:23.many problems. Not just heart problems, but others problems, such

:00:23. > :00:28.as breathing problems, infections and all sorts of things.

:00:29. > :00:31.Boomtime for Poundland. As the economy dips, the Black Country-

:00:32. > :00:34.based firm announces it's moving into Europe. People are proud to be

:00:34. > :00:37.price-conscious and to get a great deal.

:00:37. > :00:39.Three years on, police appeal for help to catch the killer of a

:00:39. > :00:45.teenager gunned down in a drive-by shooting.

:00:46. > :00:49.And tipped for athletic stardom from the age of 15. How Nathan is

:00:49. > :00:59.on track for 2012 glory. Hopefully within a few years, I will be

:00:59. > :01:03.

:01:03. > :01:06.categorised as one of the best four Good evening and welcome to

:01:06. > :01:09.Friday's Midlands Today, from the BBC. Tonight, a call for all

:01:09. > :01:13.newborn babies to be given a simple test which could highlight heart

:01:13. > :01:18.problems. Research carried out on 20,000 infants by the University of

:01:18. > :01:20.Birmingham has proved that it will save lives. Ellis Hobbs, from

:01:20. > :01:24.Coventry, nearly died from a rare heart condition that would have

:01:24. > :01:27.been picked up by the test if it had been available when he was born.

:01:27. > :01:30.Today, his parents have backed researchers who are calling for it

:01:30. > :01:40.to be used on all maternity wards, as our health correspondent,

:01:40. > :01:45.Michele Paduano, reports. At eight months old, Ellis is a

:01:45. > :01:49.normal baby boy. But he was sent home from hospital in Coventry at

:01:49. > :01:54.six hours old. Eight days later, the left side of his heart

:01:54. > :01:59.collapsed and only an emergency operation saved his life. We are

:02:00. > :02:03.very fortunate. We know only too well how close things were. By the

:02:04. > :02:08.time they uncovered his condition from various factors, it was very

:02:08. > :02:15.close, but if he had been treated somewhat earlier, then he would

:02:15. > :02:19.never have been so critically ill. Two years before he was born, a

:02:19. > :02:22.baby with the same heart condition was picked up in the trial of

:02:22. > :02:27.20,000 babies across Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Warwickshire and

:02:28. > :02:32.Shropshire. Since the study finished in 2009, we are now over

:02:32. > :02:36.two years on and I would have liked to see something in place now. If

:02:36. > :02:44.it was, our story would have been different. We're very fortunate we

:02:44. > :02:51.still have Ellis, but only just. And this is the test. This is

:02:51. > :02:56.ignore it throws out infra-red rays and works out how much oxygen is in

:02:57. > :03:00.the baby's blood. If it is too low, something can be done. It is

:03:00. > :03:05.definitely something you want to know about, so it was very

:03:05. > :03:10.reassuring. If used in combination with other assessments like

:03:10. > :03:16.ultrasound and pays natal examination, then we can identify

:03:16. > :03:26.92% to of babies with critical heart defect. -- post-natal

:03:26. > :03:35.

:03:35. > :03:40.The equipment is cheap and easy to use. So why has not been done

:03:40. > :03:45.before? Well, doctors need evidence. And this equipment gives them the

:03:45. > :03:49.evidence they need. If hospitals can start testing, fewer babies

:03:49. > :03:56.like Ellis will die. And with us now, Dr Andrew Ewer,

:03:56. > :04:01.who led this study. We saw you working at the hospital in

:04:01. > :04:06.Birmingham. They are still used in this Test, aren't they? How easy is

:04:06. > :04:12.this test? It is very simple and takes a few minutes to do. The

:04:12. > :04:17.machinery that we use costs just a few hundred pounds and our staff

:04:17. > :04:22.have taken it on as part of their routine. So for us now, it is a

:04:22. > :04:29.normal thing. So that yellow device, each of those costs a few hundred

:04:30. > :04:33.pounds? 400. We have five at our hospital and that is what we need.

:04:33. > :04:40.Why haven't other hospitals taken this on and others have stopped

:04:40. > :04:42.doing it, too, why is that? needed to do the study and

:04:42. > :04:49.assimilate the evidence and make sure that test was as accurate as

:04:49. > :04:54.we thought. I think as the reporter rightly said, doctors often need

:04:54. > :05:03.evidence, and I do hope this study will give the evidence that is the

:05:03. > :05:09.push two finally adopt this nationally. They have asked for the

:05:09. > :05:17.evidence, so where are you now? Obviously, the paper in The Lancet

:05:17. > :05:21.came out today. Our data is there to be seen and I think it is

:05:21. > :05:27.working out if it is feasible within the current financial

:05:27. > :05:33.constraints of the NHS. If it is, how we roll it out. And I look

:05:33. > :05:38.forward to those discussions. they say yes to this, obviously it

:05:38. > :05:44.will take a while for hospitals to bring it on, but you said you found

:05:44. > :05:49.26 babies with heart abnormalities? So this is like saying? Yes.

:05:49. > :05:52.all hope is for the meeting in two months' time? Yes. Thank you for

:05:52. > :05:55.joining us. Lovely to have your company this

:05:55. > :05:58.Friday evening. Still ahead, kicking off the new football season,

:05:58. > :06:06.but the bookies have already put the boot into Coventry City's

:06:06. > :06:14.championship campaign. And I am at The Big Chill in

:06:14. > :06:18.Herefordshire, where the focus is As fears of a double-dip recession

:06:18. > :06:22.loom, more of us are worried about the pound in our pocket. And

:06:22. > :06:25.retailers are finding it harder to lure us into parting with it. Some

:06:25. > :06:28.are even closing down. Discount department store TJ Hughes is the

:06:28. > :06:32.latest victim, announcing closures across the region. But Black

:06:32. > :06:35.Country-based firm Poundland has found an upside to the downturn.

:06:35. > :06:40.They've announced a big expansion plan which will see them open

:06:40. > :06:44.stores in Europe. Joanne Writtle reports.

:06:44. > :06:47.250 jobs are being axed with the closure of five TJ Hughes stores in

:06:47. > :06:50.Nuneaton, Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton, Kidderminster and Walsall. The

:06:50. > :06:53.discount department store had moved into the former Woolworths premises

:06:53. > :06:58.in Nuneaton, renovated by the council only a year ago for 1.5

:06:58. > :07:08.million. The DIY store Focus has also disappeared from beleagured

:07:08. > :07:08.

:07:08. > :07:12.high streets across the West Midlands, along with HMV.

:07:12. > :07:18.Devastating news, both for the employees here, who were only found

:07:18. > :07:24.out last night, I understand. And for the town itself. Nuneaton also

:07:24. > :07:30.lost Marks & Spencer a year ago. think the loss of any store these

:07:30. > :07:37.days is regrettable. The loss of economy for the town as well.

:07:38. > :07:41.seems being cheap is not enough to be successful. Why did they fail?

:07:41. > :07:46.You can have somebody who is the cheapest but you might have people

:07:46. > :07:50.stuck in the middle. They are not the cheapest or not doing it as

:07:50. > :07:53.well as Poundland does it, and therefore they do not succeed.

:07:53. > :07:56.while fortunes are falling for some, Poundland is seeing its prospects

:07:57. > :08:03.rise. It's branching into the euro by opening six stores in Ireland,

:08:03. > :08:07.and another 44 here. It'll create 2,000 jobs. The headquarters here

:08:07. > :08:09.at Willenhall in the Black Country is packed with discount products.

:08:09. > :08:12.But with financial markets in turmoil and the Irish banks

:08:12. > :08:22.meltdown, it is perhaps unsurprising that the new stores in

:08:22. > :08:23.

:08:23. > :08:30.Ireland will be called Dealz, rather than Euroland. We did a lot

:08:30. > :08:36.of market research on trading names, and, on surprisingly, the name

:08:36. > :08:40.euroland, which has a connotation with the euro, was not popular, and

:08:40. > :08:46.I think everybody will understand why, particularly at the moment,

:08:46. > :08:54.people are upset by the euro and the eurozone. She... Here in

:08:54. > :08:57.Birmingham city centre is one of 347 stores in the UK. -- Poundland.

:08:57. > :09:00.Customers snapping up bargains at the store where you never need to

:09:00. > :09:05.ask how much anything is were quick to react to the expansion plans.

:09:05. > :09:09.think it is a very good idea. After all, they would not be doing it if

:09:09. > :09:13.they didn't think they could prosper and make money out of it.

:09:13. > :09:16.Everything is cheaper and there isn't much anywhere else. Poundland

:09:16. > :09:18.won't reveal if the new Dealz stores will sell everything for a

:09:19. > :09:24.euro, currently worth 87p. Competition in the discount market

:09:24. > :09:27.is fierce. It could be several months before a

:09:27. > :09:30.trial date is set in Florida for a teenager accused of murdering a

:09:30. > :09:33.tennis coach from Warwickshire. 25- year-old James Cooper, from Warwick,

:09:33. > :09:38.and his university friend James Kouzaris were shot dead while on

:09:38. > :09:41.holiday in Sarasota in April. 16- year-old Shawn Tyson remains in

:09:41. > :09:48.custody but he's not due back in court until October for a case

:09:48. > :09:50.management review. The price of a ticket is the most

:09:50. > :09:53.important factor in persuading drivers to switch to High Speed

:09:53. > :09:56.Rail, according to a new survey. The proposed controversial line

:09:56. > :10:01.could see journey times between the Midlands and London cut to 50

:10:01. > :10:10.minutes. A survey of 16,000 AA members found more than 60%t said

:10:10. > :10:14.the cost of using it was more important than speed. The greatest

:10:14. > :10:19.concern for the drivers was that you cannot always rely on the

:10:19. > :10:25.railways were getting to your destination on time. So I think

:10:25. > :10:29.greater reliability, more comfort, more capacity would suit a lot of

:10:29. > :10:33.motorists, rather than perhaps an extremely expensive new railway

:10:33. > :10:35.line which will cost a fortune. Detectives have marked the third

:10:35. > :10:38.anniversary of a drive-by shooting by appealing for new information

:10:38. > :10:41.about the killing. Officers investigating the murder of 19-

:10:41. > :10:44.year-old Stephon Davidson are also offering to protect witnesses.

:10:44. > :10:53.Let's get more details from our reporter Giles Latcham, who's in

:10:53. > :10:56.Lozells, in Birmingham, for us. Giles, what's happening there?

:10:56. > :11:00.billed as a "community fun day" and it's been organised by the families

:11:00. > :11:04.of victims of gun and knife crime, and in a minute we'll speak to

:11:04. > :11:09.Stephon Davidson's mum. "A fun day", they call it, but for the Davidson

:11:09. > :11:11.family, 5th August remains a very dark date in their calendar.

:11:11. > :11:15."Brazen and reckless" - how one police officer described the

:11:15. > :11:17.killing of Stephon Davidson. It happened three years ago today,

:11:18. > :11:27.close to this busy junction in Birmingham, just a couple of

:11:27. > :11:31.hundred metres from a police station. Stephon was in the car

:11:31. > :11:37.with three friends heading in that direction towards was then a

:11:37. > :11:39.roundabout. The road layout was different Another car, a Toyota

:11:39. > :11:42.Avensis, pulled alongside and a passenger brandished a gun.

:11:42. > :11:49.Stephon's car took off, the Avensis gave chase, shots were fired and

:11:49. > :11:56.Stephon was hit in the neck. He died a month later in hospital.

:11:56. > :12:01.is a busy road, with a lot of traffic using it. This is still an

:12:01. > :12:06.isolated incident with a man hanging out of the car chasing

:12:06. > :12:11.another in the rush-hour. It is almost miraculous that Stephon was

:12:11. > :12:14.the only person injured. The killer is glimpsed on CCTV at the moment

:12:14. > :12:17.he fired the shots. But despite widespread publicity, three years

:12:17. > :12:27.on, he's not been identified. For Stephon Davidson and his family,

:12:27. > :12:27.

:12:27. > :12:35.there is no justice. Stephon had a nickname. He was

:12:35. > :12:43.known as "silk". I am now joined by his mother, vaccine Sharp. It is a

:12:43. > :12:48.strange day for you? It will just remember him for the person he was.

:12:48. > :12:53.He was full of life and fun and loving. So he was a family person

:12:53. > :12:59.and this is a family fun day. We have set up a foundation in his

:12:59. > :13:06.name to provide support to parents. The Silk Foundation. It is for

:13:06. > :13:10.parents of teenage children. And it has proved very popular. Vincent,

:13:10. > :13:13.that picture of that man leaning out of the window, there is

:13:13. > :13:18.somebody out there who knows who that is. If they are watching

:13:18. > :13:22.tonight, what would you say to that potential witness? I would

:13:22. > :13:27.literally begged them to come forward. I would get on my hands

:13:27. > :13:33.and knees. So my family and I can get justice. It is three years and

:13:33. > :13:39.we have nobody for it. It is a shame. It is a big community and we

:13:39. > :13:49.are losing our children like this. He is on the shirts of everybody

:13:49. > :13:55.

:13:55. > :13:57.and he is close to your heart tonight. It is back to the studio.

:13:57. > :14:03.You're watching Midlands Today from the BBC. Coming up, dreaming of

:14:03. > :14:05.Olympic gold, but can Nathan make it a reality?

:14:05. > :14:09.Summer music festivals are in full swing, but while thousands of

:14:09. > :14:13.people may enjoy them, they don't always go down too well with those

:14:13. > :14:16.who live nearby. Complaints about noise and traffic are common. But

:14:16. > :14:19.organisers of The Big Chill, which runs through this weekend in

:14:19. > :14:24.Herefordshire, are working hard on building community relations. Ben

:14:24. > :14:32.Sidwell is there for us now. Ben, how've they managed to get people

:14:32. > :14:37.there on side, if indeed they have? They seem to be doing so around

:14:37. > :14:41.here. This is a massive festival, by far and away Herefordshire's

:14:41. > :14:45.biggest festival. Tens of thousands of people down here over the

:14:46. > :14:50.weekend. One where they are doing this is by offering cheaper tickets

:14:50. > :14:54.and that money goes back into the community. That is one way they are

:14:54. > :14:58.trying to work with the community to keep everybody happy. As I said,

:14:58. > :15:01.The Big Chill is underway and another that has been going on and

:15:01. > :15:07.another way they seem to be attracting more people in his with

:15:07. > :15:10.the youngsters, as I have been finding out.

:15:10. > :15:13.Set amongst the Herefordshire countryside, The Big Chill attracts

:15:13. > :15:18.tens of thousands of people from around the country. But it is not

:15:19. > :15:24.just adults who are catered for here. For the first time in the

:15:24. > :15:29.Festival's history, there is a festival called The Little Chill,

:15:29. > :15:34.especially for young festival-goers. I have been to lots of festivals in

:15:34. > :15:39.the past but this is the only one I would bring my children to. It is

:15:39. > :15:43.very civilised. Among the attractions inside this part of the

:15:43. > :15:48.festival is the chill-out corner, organised and staffed by the

:15:48. > :15:52.friends of a local primary school. People are quite protective of

:15:52. > :15:57.their local area and they want to be involved, so seeing a school

:15:57. > :16:00.involved helps people feel a bit more secure and less upset by a big

:16:00. > :16:03.festival come into their area, and actually seeing it can be of

:16:03. > :16:08.benefit rather than concerning themselves that it is going to be

:16:08. > :16:16.negative. And the local community is something that the organisers

:16:16. > :16:21.are taking very seriously. People living near the site are offered a

:16:21. > :16:25.very cheap tickets. The money is given back to the area. That is how

:16:25. > :16:30.the involvement of the local primary school at came about. They

:16:31. > :16:36.use money to buy equipment for their forest project. People array

:16:36. > :16:41.bit anxious about the festival and it is an enormous event. -- are a

:16:41. > :16:46.bit anxious. But the school has benefited and we do appreciate it.

:16:46. > :16:50.Most of those at the Festival come to The Big Chill for the four days

:16:50. > :16:58.of music. Among those playing this year are Robert Plant and Kanye

:16:58. > :17:03.West. I don't think it is fair to go on and do a set that nobody has

:17:03. > :17:07.heard, because festivals are about singing along. These might be the

:17:07. > :17:13.festival-goers of today, but the organisers of The Big Chill are

:17:13. > :17:20.hoping that those organising The Little -- that those enjoying The

:17:20. > :17:26.Little Chill this weekend will be here in the future. Let's talk

:17:26. > :17:32.about this and the youngsters. Why are you doing it? To reflect the

:17:32. > :17:34.fact that The Big Chill has been going for a long time. The older

:17:35. > :17:41.festival-goers have now got children and a one to make it

:17:41. > :17:47.attractive for them and their kids to come, and it does exactly that

:17:47. > :17:51.for them, The Little Chill. seem to be working more with the

:17:51. > :17:56.communities now? Does it help to have those onside? Whatever

:17:56. > :18:01.location I am in, I want to be there for a long time, so working

:18:01. > :18:08.with the community is very important. The school locally was

:18:08. > :18:12.very fundamental in offering residents tickets to raise money.

:18:12. > :18:17.It is very important for the future of the festival. Let's talk about

:18:17. > :18:22.the festival itself. It is a big weekend and the biggest in

:18:22. > :18:25.Herefordshire. You have some big names? Well, a huge names,

:18:25. > :18:29.especially with Kanye West, who was once talked about the possible

:18:29. > :18:35.President of the United States! I do not think he would want that job

:18:35. > :18:44.at the moment. But he fantastic line-up - Robert Plant on Sunday,

:18:44. > :18:54.at Chemical Brothers, among others. Well, everybody here is chilling

:18:54. > :18:57.

:18:57. > :19:01.out. So it will ewe his The Big Chill was -- The Big Chill.

:19:01. > :19:03.And you can hear more from The Big Chill on BBC Hereford and

:19:03. > :19:05.Worcester's introducing show, with Andrew Marston from 7pm this

:19:05. > :19:09.evening. You'll probably remember blind Dave

:19:09. > :19:16.Heeley. He's the man who ran seven marathons in seven days on seven

:19:16. > :19:19.continents back in 2008, raising 375,000 for guide dogs. Now he's

:19:19. > :19:28.off and raising money again, by attempting to run and cycle 1,000

:19:28. > :19:34.miles in ten days, from John O'Groats to Land's End.

:19:34. > :19:37.Does he ever give up? Dave sets off this Sunday and hopes to raise a

:19:37. > :19:40.100,000 for MacMillan Cancer Relief. The 53-year-old from West

:19:40. > :19:46.Bromwich, in the Black Country, aims to complete a marathon and

:19:46. > :19:50.tandem bike ride on each day of the journey. It is a case of, I am

:19:50. > :19:55.looking forward to it and I know there will be a lot of pain and a

:19:55. > :20:02.lot of tears. But I think with the team, and I have got a fantastic

:20:02. > :20:08.team around me, and I won't say just me, we have a fantastic team

:20:08. > :20:12.altogether. But we will have some pain and some laughs. Pain and

:20:12. > :20:15.pleasure! Best of luck to Dave and the team.

:20:15. > :20:18.And it's a big weekend for football fans as the new season gets

:20:18. > :20:21.underway, and Dan Pallett is here with the details. It's now ten

:20:21. > :20:24.years since Coventry City played top-flight football. Tomorrow, they

:20:24. > :20:27.start another season in the Championship at home to Leicester

:20:27. > :20:30.City. And bookmakers have them as favourites to leave via relegation

:20:30. > :20:36.rather than promotion. This is how the start of Match Of

:20:36. > :20:39.The Day looked. That's what Gary looked like, and haven't his mates

:20:39. > :20:43.changed? Yes, the day Coventry City were relegated from the Premier

:20:43. > :20:48.League is now ten years ago. Gordon Strachan was manager then. He'd

:20:48. > :20:50.gone by September. The first of many. From Peter Reid to Micky

:20:50. > :20:57.Adams and Chris Coleman, they've all failed to bring top-flight

:20:57. > :21:06.football back to the Sky Blues. That leaves Andy Thorn as the tenth

:21:06. > :21:13.manager in the last ten years at Coventry City. Cheers, thanks for

:21:13. > :21:17.that. Look, as I said before, we take it game by game and I have got

:21:17. > :21:22.to a good atmosphere around the place. But what will be will be. It

:21:22. > :21:26.is no secret. We are working on a tight budget. But for fans such as

:21:26. > :21:29.Alan Packer, these are worrying times. He's the proud owner of

:21:29. > :21:33.goalkeeper Kearan Westwood's gloves. But Westwood is among three high-

:21:33. > :21:42.profile departures this summer. It looks like survival is the main aim

:21:42. > :21:48.this term. If we can just get mid- table, get the investors in and

:21:48. > :21:52.start next year, but we always seem to be saying this. It is next year,

:21:52. > :21:57.next year. And we are slowly but surely going down and down the

:21:57. > :22:00.ladder. Without the investment, we will continue to do that. From

:22:00. > :22:04.Strachan onwards, managing Coventry City in the Championship has been a

:22:04. > :22:07.difficult job, and isn't getting any easier. And it'll be a major

:22:07. > :22:13.surprise if the fans' promise for a return to the top flight is

:22:13. > :22:15.fulfilled this season. And you can hear full commentary of

:22:15. > :22:18.Coventry's match against Leicester on BBC Coventry and Warwickshire

:22:18. > :22:23.from 3pm, and you can follow your team on your local radio station

:22:23. > :22:26.throughout the season. The draws been made for the final

:22:26. > :22:29.qualifying round of the Europa League. Birmingham City will play

:22:29. > :22:33.Nacional, who are from the Portuguese island of Madeira. Stoke

:22:33. > :22:42.play the Swiss side FC Tun. Our clubs will both be away for the

:22:42. > :22:50.first legs and at home for the second. And to get there last night,

:22:50. > :22:56.Stoke completed their first victory in European football. It was 0-0 at

:22:56. > :23:03.half-time. Let's see that goal again. It was not a classic but it

:23:03. > :23:10.was an important one. It doesn't have to be pretty! If that wet

:23:10. > :23:15.people's appetites, quite a small ground but it should be great. The

:23:15. > :23:19.Birmingham City trip, there's only 5,000 seats available. It might be

:23:19. > :23:25.exotic but just check on the availability of tickets before you

:23:25. > :23:29.book any flight. Thank you for that. We're going to look ahead to 2012

:23:29. > :23:33.now, and the Olympic hopes of Nathan Woodward. He was just 15

:23:33. > :23:35.when he was tipped for athletics stardom. Now, at the grand old age

:23:35. > :23:39.of 21, the 400m hurdler from Coleshill is reaching peak

:23:39. > :23:42.condition, setting a personal best in the year before London 2012.

:23:42. > :23:49.He's off to the World Championships soon, but Ben Godfrey managed to

:23:49. > :23:52.catch him in action to find out more about his Olympic dreams.

:23:52. > :24:01.Saluting a new talent. Last weekend, in Birmingham, Nathan Woodward

:24:01. > :24:08.showed why some are calling him a future hurdling "great". A chance,

:24:08. > :24:11.but Nathan Woodward comes back again! He is going to win! But it

:24:11. > :24:14.was a more relaxed affair, as we joined Nathan in training at the

:24:14. > :24:16.Team GB camp at Loughborough University. The 21-year-old from

:24:16. > :24:19.Tamworth Athletics Club has qualified for the World

:24:19. > :24:26.Championships in South Korea later this month, and now has London 2012

:24:26. > :24:31.in his sights. I will be 22 but her think because it is the Olympics,

:24:31. > :24:35.it almost has to be a gold because it is a great opportunity, so I am

:24:35. > :24:39.doing everything in my power to make sure I am in competitive shape.

:24:39. > :24:42.So I am training hard. He's one of dozens of athletes here hoping to

:24:42. > :24:47.make the Olympic Games, and as a student of human biology, knows how

:24:47. > :24:51.to look after himself. His talent is coming through. There is still a

:24:51. > :24:55.lot of developmental work to come and I am hoping he can be a serious

:24:55. > :24:58.player in these Games. If you recognise Nathan, that's because he

:24:58. > :25:02.first came to attention in 2006, when, aged 17, he was named BBC

:25:02. > :25:06.Midlands Young Sportsman of the Year. After having the kind of

:25:06. > :25:11.breakthrough season I have had, it is a nice way to round it off and

:25:11. > :25:15.reflect on what I have achieved. I am progressing the way I want to

:25:15. > :25:19.progress and closing the gap on the world's best all the time.

:25:19. > :25:23.Hopefully in a few years, I will be categorised as one of the best

:25:23. > :25:26.hurdlers in the world. Nathan's been compared to the great Ed Moses,

:25:26. > :25:31.both athletes tall and rangy who need a mere 13 strides between

:25:31. > :25:36.hurdles. Speak to his fellow athletes and their all say Nathan

:25:36. > :25:44.is an incredibly grounded individual, but one he is extremely

:25:44. > :25:49.focused on achieving his ambitions. A gold medal at London 2012.

:25:49. > :25:59.Wouldn't that be fantastic! Brilliant. Good luck to you, Nathan.

:25:59. > :26:03.Let's find out what the weather is A pretty mixed bag. The best way we

:26:03. > :26:08.can something's up is to say there will be some sunny spells and some

:26:08. > :26:16.showers as well. His day is fine through this evening. Overnight,

:26:16. > :26:25.most of us should remain dry. -- it is staying fine. A mild but not too

:26:25. > :26:30.muggy night. Tomorrow, for many of us, things start off dry. The rest

:26:30. > :26:36.of us will join in with the showers that start off in the north of the

:26:36. > :26:41.region. Always some drier, brighter spells in between, and highs of 20

:26:41. > :26:51.degrees Celsius. The first day of the football season, and if you're

:26:51. > :26:58.off to any of those matches, here is a selection of those matches. A

:26:58. > :27:03.few spots of rain here and there. Some have showers for Shrewsbury

:27:03. > :27:08.methods Plymouth and for Torquay Mercer's Burton Albion. If you are

:27:08. > :27:13.off to The Big Chill, it won't be a complete washout, but do expect

:27:13. > :27:16.some showers. Not particularly warm. Abu showers continued tomorrow

:27:16. > :27:23.night and they could even merge together to give longer spells of

:27:23. > :27:29.rain. -- a few showers. It will be quite windy on Sunday and quite

:27:29. > :27:31.A look at tonight's main headlines, and more falls on the financial

:27:31. > :27:34.markets, as fears about the global economic outlook continue.
