:00:13. > :00:18.Hello. Good evening. A young man who was permanently blinded after

:00:18. > :00:25.being stabbed in the neck outside a nightclub in Hereford is planning

:00:25. > :00:30.to start his new life at college, one year after the unprovoked

:00:30. > :00:35.attack. Jack Hewitt was only released from hospital a week ago.

:00:35. > :00:41.Learning his way to his new halls of residence, 22-year-old Jack

:00:41. > :00:45.Hewitt is preparing to start a new life without his sight. Jack, who

:00:45. > :00:54.was studying to become an engineer was out with friends when he was

:00:54. > :01:01.stabbed with a broken bottle. He suffered a stroke and was in a coma

:01:01. > :01:07.for weeks. His 21-year-old attacker has been given a life sentence.

:01:07. > :01:12.Everything else in life fades into second place. Every waking moment

:01:12. > :01:17.is occupied by thinking about Jack and how and if he might recover.

:01:17. > :01:23.Jack spent 11 months in hospital. On his release he was given an

:01:23. > :01:33.award for courage from his old college. I guess it is kind of

:01:33. > :01:33.

:01:33. > :01:41.remarkable. I'm just, I don't think of it really. You know? It's how I

:01:41. > :01:45.am, really. In a week's time he's beginning a three-year course at

:01:45. > :01:50.the royal national college for the blind. Knowing when hot water is

:01:50. > :01:55.near the top of a cup is one of the every day tasks he is re-learning.

:01:56. > :01:58.He has a wonderful sense of humour. He is very articulate. He is very

:01:59. > :02:03.personalable and we are delighted to offer him this opportunity to

:02:03. > :02:11.move on with his life. A life turned upside down, but it is one

:02:11. > :02:13.he plans to embrace. Police believe a blaze which

:02:13. > :02:17.destroyed a furniture store in Wolverhampton was started

:02:17. > :02:21.deliberately. The fire which broke out at the furniture warehouse just

:02:22. > :02:26.after midnight has destroyed 75% of the building. There were fears the

:02:26. > :02:30.fire could spread to a neighbouring sports shop and a neighbouring

:02:30. > :02:35.furniture store. Both buildings just suffered smoke damage. A

:02:35. > :02:39.charity has welcomed a court order for some stroke on Trent City

:02:39. > :02:42.council to halt services for deaf children. The National Deaf

:02:42. > :02:45.Children's Society said the authority has been reckless. The

:02:45. > :02:48.number of specialist teachers has been halved in the last two years.

:02:48. > :02:54.Now, the High Court will consider an application for a judicial

:02:54. > :02:58.review of further cuts. With one year to go to the start of

:02:58. > :03:02.the Paralympics, two of the Midlands hottest medal hopes can

:03:02. > :03:08.not wait to get into action. Swimmers Sacha and Nyree Kindred

:03:08. > :03:13.are looking to defend their titles in London. Their recent training

:03:13. > :03:17.schedules have undergone some disruption. They now have a new fan

:03:17. > :03:21.poolside. Sacha and Nyree Kindred are the golden couple of British

:03:21. > :03:27.swimming. At their home in Hereford they have been joined by another

:03:27. > :03:32.champion. Baby Ella arrived in June. She is already making a splash.

:03:33. > :03:39.took her to water babies when she was four weeks' old. She loved it

:03:39. > :03:44.in the water. She went underwater. It is going to take a few more

:03:44. > :03:50.trips to the pool before she can hope to beat mum and dad in a race.

:03:50. > :03:55.Sacha came hope with Gold from Beijing in 2008. If he makes the

:03:55. > :04:00.squad, London 2012 will be his fifth Paralympics. I broke the

:04:00. > :04:05.record last year. Hopefully I can try and retain the titles I won in

:04:05. > :04:09.Beijing. It will be the hardest ever. Paralympic sport has moved en

:04:09. > :04:13.masse sievely over the past few years. Wife Nyree was swimming

:04:13. > :04:20.until the day before Ella's birth. My coach has a plan in place that

:04:20. > :04:24.we can get there. At the end of the day, if you don't try, you never

:04:24. > :04:28.know. It is hard to see where they would put any more silver wear. The

:04:28. > :04:33.side board is not big enough to hold all the Paralympic medals they

:04:33. > :04:38.have won between them. They have won 20. Not to mention the 14 world

:04:38. > :04:45.titles and now they have another reason to win in 2012. In time she

:04:45. > :04:50.will be proud of us and know we competed at the Olympics in 2012.

:04:50. > :04:54.We want to bring back medals for Great Britain. Tickets for the

:04:55. > :05:03.Paralympics go on sale on Friday week, that is September 9th. Two

:05:03. > :05:07.football results in the Blue Square Now the weather.

:05:07. > :05:12.Well, under the influence of high pressure this week it is looking

:05:12. > :05:17.drier. Cool to start off with, but warming up by Friday. High pressure

:05:17. > :05:20.asserts itself by Friday, killing off any stray showers. We have a

:05:20. > :05:24.few in the north of the region tonight, where the thicker cloud is.

:05:24. > :05:34.Elsewhere we have clearer spells. In rural parts temperatures could

:05:34. > :05:35.

:05:35. > :05:39.fall into single figures. Otherwise lows of tens and 11's.

:05:39. > :05:43.We have some sunshine, some good sunny spells to start off with. But

:05:43. > :05:48.then clouding over during the afternoon. Predominantly dry

:05:48. > :05:51.tomorrow. Up to 18 Celsius. Below afternoon. Similar on Wednesday,
