:00:00. > :00:11.more throughout the evening on the BBC News Channel.

:00:12. > :00:18.Good afternoon. A lorry driver has died after crashing into the side of

:00:19. > :00:21.a social club in Wednesbury in the Black Country. The accident happened

:00:22. > :00:25.at around eight o'clock last night when the Royal British Legion was

:00:26. > :00:27.open. Staff say it was lucky that no one else was killed. Ben Sidwell

:00:28. > :00:30.reports. It's a scene of utter devastation.

:00:31. > :00:33.Part of the Royal British Legion club in Wednesbury destroyed by a

:00:34. > :00:46.lorry that ploughed straight into the building. It is heartbreaking.

:00:47. > :00:51.Heartbreaking. I just heard a big bang. My wife and daughter were

:00:52. > :01:01.shutting people out of the club. There were around 25 people inside

:01:02. > :01:05.when the lorry had. Currently, `` at the time, there was a family with

:01:06. > :01:08.young children, thankfully no one was harmed. These pictures show the

:01:09. > :01:11.lorry embedded in the side of the social club. The area it hit was

:01:12. > :01:15.where the children usually play. Louise Jones and her family should

:01:16. > :01:17.have been in the building at the time, but were delayed.

:01:18. > :01:21.My children could have been there playing and they would not have been

:01:22. > :01:29.here today. No way could they have survived it. Terrible. Outside,

:01:30. > :01:32.tributes already to the milk lorry driver who was killed.

:01:33. > :01:37.One of those in the club at the time, said people thought it was a

:01:38. > :01:41.gas explosion. People were coming up with their families on boxing night.

:01:42. > :01:45.It could have killed a lot of people last night. My own grandchildren

:01:46. > :01:48.included in my family. At the moment, it looks an enormous task,

:01:49. > :01:56.but members here say they'll regroup and rebuild their club. We will

:01:57. > :02:00.carry on. We have our centenary next year and we are going all out to

:02:01. > :02:04.work towards that. Those who run the club say they hope to be given the

:02:05. > :02:07.go ahead to reopen part of the building in the next few days.

:02:08. > :02:13.A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died

:02:14. > :02:16.in a house fire in Walsall. The fire broke out at a house in South Street

:02:17. > :02:19.Gardens in Caldmore on Christmas Day. A 58`year`old man died and a

:02:20. > :02:23.57`year`old woman has been arrested. The man has yet to be formally

:02:24. > :02:26.identified. Police are appealing for help in

:02:27. > :02:30.piecing together what happened to a man found dead in a pond in

:02:31. > :02:34.Kidderminister. The body of 41`year`old Paul Humphries was found

:02:35. > :02:37.in the front garden of a house in Chaucer Crescent yesterday morning.

:02:38. > :02:41.He'd been taken ill over Christmas and was last seen at his home a few

:02:42. > :02:48.minutes walk away on Boxing Day morning. His death is being treated

:02:49. > :02:51.as unexplained. So what did you get for Christmas?

:02:52. > :02:55.Stoke City fans may think that referee Martin Atkinson got a new

:02:56. > :02:59.red card. He sent two of their players off and manager Mark Hughes

:03:00. > :03:03.as Stoke crashed to a 5`1 Boxing Day defeat at Newcastle United. Dan

:03:04. > :03:07.Pallett reports. First it was Glen Whelan. The

:03:08. > :03:15.reaction of manager Mark Hughes meant he was sent to the stands. And

:03:16. > :03:19.then Marc Wilson also saw red. Stoke's Boxing Day excursion to

:03:20. > :03:22.Newcastle all went horribly wrong. They had made the perfect start.

:03:23. > :03:31.Oussama Assaidi scoring a spectacular opener to put stoke in

:03:32. > :03:38.the lead. But down to nine men, they struggled and Newcastle took

:03:39. > :03:45.advantage winning 5`1. The initial sending off was very harsh,

:03:46. > :03:53.ridiculous in fact. The second one, we would argue against that as well.

:03:54. > :03:55.And Aston Villa's problems continue to mount.

:03:56. > :03:58.They lost 1`nil at home to Crystal Palace. Their fourth straight defeat

:03:59. > :04:02.and their third consecutive home game without scoring a goal. I

:04:03. > :04:05.cannot criticise their effort. But West Bromwich Albion are

:04:06. > :04:09.improving under their caretaker management. They fell behind at

:04:10. > :04:13.Tottenham. But Jonas Olsen equalised to earn Albion a valuable 1`1 draw

:04:14. > :04:20.which helps keep them just above the relegation zone.

:04:21. > :04:23.High winds and flooding have made it difficult for drivers across the

:04:24. > :04:27.region today. Dozens of roads were closed for a time as the result of

:04:28. > :04:32.trees falling onto the carriageway, like this one on the Stourport Road

:04:33. > :04:35.in Kidderminster. There were also some local flooding problems in

:04:36. > :04:38.Shropshire and Worcestershire. 11 flood warnings are still in place

:04:39. > :04:50.for the Midlands, although river levels on the Severn are now on

:04:51. > :04:52.So let's find out what tomorrow has So let's find out what tomorrow has

:04:53. > :04:58.in store then with Rebecca Wood. Are things calming down now, Rebecca?

:04:59. > :05:05.their way down. Yes, things are starting to come

:05:06. > :05:11.down. We do still have some showers moving through the region. There

:05:12. > :05:16.could be a wintry element in them. But we will have some clear spells

:05:17. > :05:23.as well and temperatures will fall away a day. `` fall away there. We

:05:24. > :05:27.could have some icy patches in the morning, that's good spells of

:05:28. > :05:32.brightness to come tomorrow. Feeling rather chilly.

:05:33. > :05:35.Finally, campaigners in Chelthenham hoping to get a former arts centre

:05:36. > :05:39.re`opened have been given a welcome boost. Two benefactors have offered

:05:40. > :05:43.to donate more than half a million pounds to buy the Axiom building. It

:05:44. > :05:46.was closed by the council in 2000 as it wasn't thought to be commercially

:05:47. > :05:51.viable. The agents say they're considering a number of offers.

:05:52. > :05:55.That's it for now. I'll be back with the late news at a quarter past ten

:05:56. > :06:09.this evening. But from all of us here, goodbye.

:06:10. > :06:15.Good evening. What a week it has been, a stormy start, a law through

:06:16. > :06:21.Christmas, then a wild end to the week, had to keep up, isn't it? This

:06:22. > :06:26.was a vicious area of low pressure last night, but today the winds have

:06:27. > :06:30.been strongest across northern areas, where it is still blowing a

:06:31. > :06:36.gale. That will gradually subside as we go through the night, although a

:06:37. > :06:39.windy night across Scotland with frequent, heavy showers. A few

:06:40. > :06:45.showers whistling in elsewhere, but a lot of dry weather, and

:06:46. > :06:50.temperatures will ease down first thing tomorrow morning. Tomorrow, a

:06:51. > :06:51.different sort of day, not as windy thankfully, although still
