:00:00. > :00:08.first British champion. That is it for now.

:00:09. > :00:12.Good evening. A leading flood campaigner's called on the

:00:13. > :00:16.Government to apply for European funding to help victims in

:00:17. > :00:18.Worcestershire. Ministers h`ve already promised support for homes

:00:19. > :00:22.and businesses affected by last month's floods, but extra c`sh is

:00:23. > :00:27.still available from the EU. Matthew Bone reports.

:00:28. > :00:31.It was some of the worst flooding that Worcestershire had seen for

:00:32. > :00:35.years and the village of Seven Stoke was one of the worst hit. One month

:00:36. > :00:40.on, the water may have gone but the damage remains. The village Church

:00:41. > :00:51.is still recovering. The water came up to this first step here. Just,

:00:52. > :00:55.just about there. The local pub s makeshift flood barriers weren't

:00:56. > :01:00.enough. There's still holid`y money and bits of wages we have bden

:01:01. > :01:05.paying out. To be honest, it is a struggle... Businesses can `pply for

:01:06. > :01:08.up to ?3,000 to the cost of the cleanup but could more help be on

:01:09. > :01:11.the way from the continent? The European Union set aside hundreds of

:01:12. > :01:14.millions of pounds in what's called a solidarity fund to help countries

:01:15. > :01:19.out with things like flooding. To qualify, the Government needs to

:01:20. > :01:23.show there's been around ?3 billion of damage. That's where the problem

:01:24. > :01:26.is. Ministers say as bad as it's been there hasn't been enough damage

:01:27. > :01:31.across the UK to make it worth applying. Speaking on the Stnday

:01:32. > :01:34.Politics in the MP Midlands a leading flood campaigner sahd the

:01:35. > :01:40.Government should at least try for some of the help. It's remisnot to

:01:41. > :01:43.apply for the funding, if wd stop and think about the ` a lot of the

:01:44. > :01:49.money is for infrastructure. So we think about the railway linds, the

:01:50. > :01:52.bridges, electricity, the g`s and everything and the roads right

:01:53. > :01:56.across the board, I think wd need that money to help us recovdr.

:01:57. > :01:58.People in Seven Stoke are now campaigning for better flood

:01:59. > :02:02.defences, they want to make sure this kind of damage doesn't happen

:02:03. > :02:06.again. In the meantime, households and businesses are trying to recover

:02:07. > :02:11.and they say they'll take all the help they can get.

:02:12. > :02:13.The Ministry of Defence is coming under pressure to provide ftnding

:02:14. > :02:16.for the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

:02:17. > :02:19.The arboretum, near Alrewas, attracts almost quarter of ` million

:02:20. > :02:24.visitors every year but has had its grant withdrawn. At the samd time,

:02:25. > :02:29.the National Army Museum receives over ?6.5 million a year. Along

:02:30. > :02:35.visitors today views were mhxed over how the memorial should be funded.

:02:36. > :02:41.The MoD should be making its contribution just as visitors here

:02:42. > :02:45.do. Something like this shotldn t be totally dependent on Governlent

:02:46. > :02:48.handouts, nevertheless, bec`use it is what it is, I think therd should

:02:49. > :02:52.be some Government contribution There was a hell of a lot of people

:02:53. > :02:55.gave up their lives for us, so why don't the Government keep ftnding

:02:56. > :02:58.it? Demolition work on part of

:02:59. > :03:01.Coventry's infamous ring ro`d got under way today. The aim is to make

:03:02. > :03:06.the city centre more accesshble Kevin Reide reports.

:03:07. > :03:09.With traffic diverted and dhversions in place, the long`awaited

:03:10. > :03:13.demolition of junction six was almost here. They're just moving in

:03:14. > :03:18.the final demolition machindry and once in place it will take `bout two

:03:19. > :03:22.hours to remove the bridge section and the rest of the day to clean up.

:03:23. > :03:26.It's carried traffic for more than 40 years but in the any mord. The

:03:27. > :03:30.bridge was first to go. Work has also started taking out this longer

:03:31. > :03:35.section, including two unpopular underpasses. The development in the

:03:36. > :03:42.post`war years isolated the city centre from the rest of the city as

:03:43. > :03:46.it's grown. The council has a real can`do attitude and is readx to try

:03:47. > :03:52.and regenerate much of the city The aim is to create a new business

:03:53. > :03:56.district and better link thd railway station to the city centre. I think

:03:57. > :04:00.it's for the best. Very upsdt to see it, more so than I thought H was

:04:01. > :04:03.going to. I knew it before ht was the ring road in the first place.

:04:04. > :04:07.All of a sudden it's come down so quickly. The main ring road will

:04:08. > :04:14.reopen tomorrow morning but drivers are advised to avoid junction six.

:04:15. > :04:18.The Coventry City chief executive Tim Fisher was attacked by fans in a

:04:19. > :04:22.pub following the team's defeat by Brentford in League One yesterday.

:04:23. > :04:26.Chairs and glasses were thrown when Mr Fisher went into the London pub

:04:27. > :04:30.where Sky Blues fans were drinking. He's not believed to have bden

:04:31. > :04:36.injured. A club spokesman s`id they would prefer not to comment on the

:04:37. > :04:40.incident. Football now Stoke City camd out on

:04:41. > :04:43.top in today's Midlands derby with Aston Villa in the Premier League. .

:04:44. > :04:46.Villa started well with Chrhstian Benteke opening the scoring after

:04:47. > :04:49.just four minutes. But Stokd hit back with three goals beford the

:04:50. > :04:53.interval including this effort from Charles N'Zonzi. Geoff Cameron

:04:54. > :05:02.sealed a 4`1 victory for Stoke with a goal late in the second h`lf.

:05:03. > :05:04.Let's look at the weather now with Kay.

:05:05. > :05:10.We had some lively showers `gain today, some hail and thunder around

:05:11. > :05:13.this afternoon. They're starting to fade away now so we are entdring

:05:14. > :05:17.into a dry night. We will h`ve clear skies throughout the night `nd with

:05:18. > :05:22.those winds fall falling th`t's a recipe for a cold one, a widespread

:05:23. > :05:27.frost. Lows in some rural spots down to minus three. Gardeners t`ke note.

:05:28. > :05:32.It's a dry start tomorrow morning. Lots of lovely sunshine arotnd. We

:05:33. > :05:36.will see the sunshine turning hazier into the afternoon with clotd

:05:37. > :05:40.rolling in. But most of us staying dry until the evening. It whll feel

:05:41. > :05:43.warmer, with temperatures up to around ten or 11. That rain is

:05:44. > :05:47.around on Tuesday but some showers by Wednesday.

:05:48. > :05:57.That's all for now. I will be back with a late bulletin at 10. 20, join

:05:58. > :06:07.me then if you can. From all of us, good bye.

:06:08. > :06:16.Hello. Following today's showers, tonight is going to be much colder.

:06:17. > :06:20.Clear skies, light winds, a recipe for a widespread frost. Sharp

:06:21. > :06:25.showers for the next couple of hours. From East Yorkshire to the

:06:26. > :06:29.south-east. Hail and thunder. Skies will clear across many areas.

:06:30. > :06:35.Temperatures tumbling across rural parts it could be as low as minus

:06:43. > :06:48.slowly in from the Atlantic. Central and eastern areas staying dry and

:06:49. > :06:50.bright all day. Good-looking day across Scotland. Sunshine turning

:06:51. > :06:57.hazy later in the West. Thickening cloud. Rain in the afternoon. The

:06:58. > :07:01.band of rain will work its way into Wales in the afternoon. Robbery

:07:02. > :07:09.arriving a little bit sooner in the far south-west. -- probably

:07:10. > :07:10.arriving. Further east, dry with plenty of sunshine after the
