:00:00. > :00:00.calls for UN peacekeepers to be sent in. That's all from the BBC News

:00:07. > :01:22.Good evening, the investigation into the alleged plot by Muslim

:01:23. > :01:26.hardliners to take over somd schools in Birmingham has been widened by

:01:27. > :01:29.the City Council. Today thex confirmed they're now looking into

:01:30. > :01:34.allegations linked to 25 different schools in the city. The Department

:01:35. > :01:40.for Education has also sent Ofsted inspectors to 15 of those schools in

:01:41. > :01:43.recent weeks. The council h`s also appointed a former Head teacher to

:01:44. > :01:46.oversee a taskforce to look into the so called "Trojan Horse" plot. Our

:01:47. > :01:56.special correspondent Peter Wilson has been investigating.

:01:57. > :01:59.A number of schools have bedn infiltrated by hardline Muslims Two

:02:00. > :02:04.months of continuous allegations, national and local news scrttiny of

:02:05. > :02:07.Birmingham's schools. Finally today the council broke their sildnce to

:02:08. > :02:18.reveal the scale of their investigation. We have had ` group

:02:19. > :02:26.comprising school and policd looking at matters which have arisen. We

:02:27. > :02:29.want to put someone in charge, Ian Kershaw is the individual wd have

:02:30. > :02:32.named. Education expert Ian Kershaw has

:02:33. > :02:35.raised standards in the north of England. He's also a former Coventry

:02:36. > :02:45.headteacher but what exactlx are the allegations emerging now from 2

:02:46. > :02:49.schools? We have allegations of condtct of

:02:50. > :02:54.governing bodies, some of the behaviour of staff and the things

:02:55. > :02:57.taught and not taught. All of those have reached us from differdnt

:02:58. > :03:04.sources and we will be investigating.

:03:05. > :03:06.Leaders from multi faith groups warned of the dangers of thd

:03:07. > :03:15.investigation getting out of control. Islam is being talked about

:03:16. > :03:21.in to a narrow and ineffecthve and inaccurate way. Those Muslils who

:03:22. > :03:26.are fully part of our society and helping to build a better Britain

:03:27. > :03:33.and Birmingham with others feel very very misrepresented. There hs a fear

:03:34. > :03:38.of getting things wrong which is understandable but it is re`lly

:03:39. > :03:42.important Muslims aren't delonised as a result of the allegations.

:03:43. > :03:46.Last week children from the school at the centre of this inquiry Park

:03:47. > :03:48.View Academy broke up for the holidays. Governors there claim

:03:49. > :03:57.Ofsted's inspection team were heavy handed. We felt that aggressive tone

:03:58. > :04:03.and manner was not intended to support the school or to opdn

:04:04. > :04:06.mindedly investigate how is good the school was but to find something

:04:07. > :04:09.wrong with the school. At Birmingham's Central Mospue the

:04:10. > :04:12.management team wanted to w`it until the council complete's their

:04:13. > :04:21.investigation before making any wide ranging comments but they dhd offer

:04:22. > :04:30.this caution. The complaint I have been informed of is signed by

:04:31. > :04:36.anybody. The normal rule is that one doesn't look at one`sided rdports.

:04:37. > :04:42.Some have treated Trojan horse as a joke and hoax but now the council

:04:43. > :04:47.has revealed 200 separate lhnes of enquiry they hope to have a final

:04:48. > :04:54.report by the end of July. @ll of this has the potential of bding

:04:55. > :04:57.hugely damaging to our commtnities. I'm joined now by leader of

:04:58. > :05:07.Birmingham City Council, Sir Albert Bore. You have been investigating

:05:08. > :05:13.this for two months. Why haven't you responded earlier? A lot of work has

:05:14. > :05:16.gone in to talking to schools, understanding the issues and we

:05:17. > :05:22.decided we needed someone ftll`time on it. I have had an operathonal

:05:23. > :05:29.group comprising councillors, staff, Ofsted, police and others but

:05:30. > :05:36.we have decided there are 14 schools being investigated by Ofsted and 25

:05:37. > :05:41.schools we know being looked at as decided this needed further

:05:42. > :05:45.attention and more focus. You are taking this seriously but do you

:05:46. > :05:52.believe there was a plot? No, I don't believe so but there `re

:05:53. > :05:58.issues to look at. What? How a governing body behaves, what is said

:05:59. > :06:02.or done in the school. Issuds about relationships, these are thhngs

:06:03. > :06:07.which differ from school to school. Many schools we don't have ` working

:06:08. > :06:09.relationship with because they are at academies and their

:06:10. > :06:14.accountability is through the Secretary of State. We are working

:06:15. > :06:19.with the academies as well. But because you have no authority, what

:06:20. > :06:26.can you do? Very little. Thd approach is about welcoming and them

:06:27. > :06:28.welcoming us and any help wd can give Simmie spoke to the

:06:29. > :06:34.headteachers and the chair of governors where we have been able

:06:35. > :06:38.to. We tried to put an arm of welcome around them and say what can

:06:39. > :06:46.we do to help and most schools are working with us. We saw by carrying

:06:47. > :06:51.out the investigation some religious leaders are concerned there might be

:06:52. > :06:55.a stoking up of Islamophobi`. Do you understand?

:06:56. > :06:59.Yes, they are quite real. Youngsters in the community are voicing

:07:00. > :07:04.concerns about things that have been said and community leaders saying

:07:05. > :07:08.the same. We have to watch this carefully. Birmingham is a city

:07:09. > :07:14.which has many ethnic minorhties, many religions and for many years we

:07:15. > :07:18.have learned to live togethdr and I hope that doesn't risk that quality

:07:19. > :07:22.and peacefulness Birmingham has enjoyed for so long.

:07:23. > :07:26.There will be parents watchhng who are genuinely concerned abott what

:07:27. > :07:28.is happening. What do you s`y to them?

:07:29. > :07:31.Bear with us, we are trying to sort this out.

:07:32. > :07:36.If things have gone wrong, we will get to the bottom of it to work with

:07:37. > :07:41.parents and schools to put that right. It will take us weeks or

:07:42. > :07:45.months to get to that point. And Will you come back and talk to

:07:46. > :07:52.us? More than happy to. Thank you.

:07:53. > :07:55.Coming up later in the programme. Happy 50th Birthday ` the town of

:07:56. > :08:03.Redditch reaches a milestond, but its residents think they get a bad

:08:04. > :08:05.press. The University Hospital of North Staffordshire is investigating

:08:06. > :08:08.one of its consultants who treated patients with skull or faci`l

:08:09. > :08:11.injuries. The treatment of 88 people is being called into question, the

:08:12. > :08:18.consultant was suspended in February 2013. Bob Hockenhull is at the

:08:19. > :08:25.hospital this evening, why hs there concern about the treatment of these

:08:26. > :08:30.patients? Well, he's concerned 88 pathents and

:08:31. > :08:34.the concern is they may havd undergone unnecessary surgery or

:08:35. > :08:39.been treated with unproven techniques. 33 of them had severe

:08:40. > :08:45.damage or fractures to that eye socket, this was treated with an

:08:46. > :08:50.artificial bone transplant `nd there is concern the transplant m`y have

:08:51. > :08:55.caused scarring around the dye. 19 other patients may have had

:08:56. > :08:58.unnecessary treatment and a total of 36 patients with severe problems

:08:59. > :09:04.with their jaw may have had unnecessary surgery. What more has

:09:05. > :09:09.the hospital said? The hospital said it is calling in

:09:10. > :09:14.these 88 patients with new appointments over the next few weeks

:09:15. > :09:20.and they will be re`examined. It says the allegations concern one

:09:21. > :09:25.consultant who hasn't been named and the allegations concern possible

:09:26. > :09:30.unnecessary treatments. I would like to express my sincere regrets and

:09:31. > :09:38.apologies to all patients who may have undergone harm as a result of

:09:39. > :09:43.this individual consultant `nd as soon as significant concerns were

:09:44. > :09:48.raised about specific aspects of this consultant practice we took

:09:49. > :09:53.immediate action to investigate these concerns are thoroughly.

:09:54. > :09:57.The consultant was suspended 14 months ago. Why has it taken so

:09:58. > :10:02.long? The hospital says the alleg`tions

:10:03. > :10:06.were only made by one person so it was important to examine

:10:07. > :10:09.thoroughly, not only intern`lly but also to bring in the Royal College

:10:10. > :10:15.of surgeons to make a thorotgh investigation.

:10:16. > :10:17.BBC Radio Stoke will have more on this story tomorrow morning from

:10:18. > :10:21.7am. Stuart and Charlotte are speaking to an expert in medical

:10:22. > :10:23.law. Hundreds of victims of a notorious car clamping scam

:10:24. > :10:26.operating across the Midlands are finally receiving compensathon,

:10:27. > :10:29.nearly six years after it bdgan The clampers would lie in wait before

:10:30. > :10:32.illegally clamping vehicles ` forcing stranded drivers to hand

:10:33. > :10:40.over hundreds of pounds. Kevin Reide reports.

:10:41. > :10:44.Midlands Parking Contracts had a plausible name but the way they

:10:45. > :10:47.operated was anything but. They d often obscure warning signs before

:10:48. > :10:50.pouncing on innocent victims, clamping or removing their vehicles

:10:51. > :10:55.then forcing them to hand over hundreds of pounds. Six years ago

:10:56. > :11:05.professional sign writer John Neal from Nuneaton was one victil.

:11:06. > :11:08.Ruthless. Daylight robbery `nd completely without any morals about

:11:09. > :11:14.what they were doing. John had parked here at the back of

:11:15. > :11:17.these shops in Nuneaton Town centre. He was collecting a sign from one of

:11:18. > :11:21.the businesses but within fhve minutes was clamped. He was told to

:11:22. > :11:25.pay 125 pounds immediately `nd if he didn't a tow truck would be called

:11:26. > :11:28.costing him a further 175 pounds. Armed with a camcorder John later

:11:29. > :11:34.returned to film the clampers about to extort from another victhm. You

:11:35. > :11:38.are in a marked vehicle this time. Last time, you weren't. The driver

:11:39. > :11:41.here was clamper Faisal Qadder. He was jailed along with five others

:11:42. > :11:51.including the firm's owner @ndrew Minshull, all for conspiracx to

:11:52. > :11:56.defraud. It has taken years to go through the courts. It took 12

:11:57. > :12:03.months until we got a confiscation order. Because it was tied tp with

:12:04. > :12:08.the property it has taken another 12 months for the property to sell As

:12:09. > :12:13.soon as it sold, within a fdw days of the sale, we received thd money

:12:14. > :12:17.from the defendant. The law has changed so clamping on most private

:12:18. > :12:22.land is now illegal. You see something that is and just,

:12:23. > :12:28.this is wrong, it can be brought to court and people brought to justice

:12:29. > :12:37.and the law changed. Police say 440 victims will get 8% of what they

:12:38. > :12:40.lost. A man convicted of killing a Shropshire teenager is to appeal

:12:41. > :12:43.against his whole life sentdnce 17`year`old Georgia Williams was

:12:44. > :12:46.murdered last May after her killer Jamie Reynolds persuaded her to go

:12:47. > :12:49.to his home in Wellington. Her body was found in woodland in Wales.

:12:50. > :12:53.Reynolds was sentenced in Ddcember after admitting the murder. He is

:12:54. > :12:58.now challenging the ruling that he should die in jail. Meanwhile, a

:12:59. > :13:01.26`year`old man from Stafford has appeared in court charged whth

:13:02. > :13:05.murder in connection with a stabbing at the weekend. 22`year`old Connon

:13:06. > :13:11.McLeod was attacked in Stond during the early hours of Saturday morning.

:13:12. > :13:14.Fifty years ago today, papers were signed designating Redditch as a new

:13:15. > :13:17.town. The move tripled the population and ripped out the heart

:13:18. > :13:21.of the small Worcestershire Victorian town. Today residdnts

:13:22. > :13:25.joined together to celebratd half a century and sign a pledge to make

:13:26. > :13:34.the place even bigger and bdtter in the next 50 years, as Ben Shdwell

:13:35. > :13:40.reports. Have a look at this. Redditch. 30 minutes south of

:13:41. > :13:42.Birmingham where the air is clean, the grass is green and the birds are

:13:43. > :13:48.singing. Redditch was meant to be thd future.

:13:49. > :13:54.A place with all its amenithes purpose built. It's divided town for

:13:55. > :13:59.a while between the old and the new but over the years it has

:14:00. > :14:04.disappeared. It is wonderful place to live. A lot of history.

:14:05. > :14:12.The town became famous for hts indoor palm trees and infamous for

:14:13. > :14:15.something else. Speaking to anyone who has been to Redditch, most

:14:16. > :14:24.people tell you they dislikd the ring road. You can get from a to B

:14:25. > :14:27.in a fast and efficient timd. If you know where you are going, the road

:14:28. > :14:30.system works perfect. Of cotrse there's more to Redditch th`n just

:14:31. > :14:36.half a century, the town actually dates back around 1,000 years. In

:14:37. > :14:48.the 19th century Redditch w`s the centre of the needle making world.

:14:49. > :14:52.Just listen. All you can he`r is the sound of children playing, very

:14:53. > :14:57.restful. There have been hiccups along the way as with any ndw town

:14:58. > :15:01.but we have made a success of it. On the day the town turned 50,

:15:02. > :15:10.residents signed a pledge to make Redditch a better place to live over

:15:11. > :15:16.the next half century. When you come to Redditch, you never want to

:15:17. > :15:21.leave! Cheers! This is our top story tonight: The investigation widens

:15:22. > :15:24.into the Trojan horse plot ` allegations that Muslim hardliners

:15:25. > :15:27.are trying to take over schools in Birmingham.

:15:28. > :15:29.Your detailed weather forec`st to come shortly also in tonight's

:15:30. > :15:33.programme. A hundred days to go to the

:15:34. > :15:38.Commonwealth Games, we meet one medal contender for Glasgow.

:15:39. > :15:40.Keeping families posted, thd vital role of the postal service during

:15:41. > :15:53.the First World War revealed. Let's turn to sport now ` Wolves

:15:54. > :16:01.fans still on a high after winning promotion.

:16:02. > :16:04.What an incredible few seasons, double relegation and then

:16:05. > :16:06.promotion. The Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey says winning

:16:07. > :16:10.promotion this season has rdignited the bond between the club and the

:16:11. > :16:13.fans. More than two thousand supporters danced on the pitch at

:16:14. > :16:16.Crewe this weekend as Wolves secured the victory they needed for an

:16:17. > :16:20.instant return to the Champhonship. Nick Clitheroe was there.

:16:21. > :16:25.After two years of relegation pain Wolves fans are loving everx minute

:16:26. > :16:28.of their revival this season. And knowing a win would guarantde

:16:29. > :16:37.promotion they filled two stands at Crewe and waited to celebrate. We

:16:38. > :16:50.are definitely going up. Very confident. It is Wolves. This

:16:51. > :16:54.momentous day, can these pl`yers make the final step? But Crdwe are

:16:55. > :16:57.also fighting hard to survive in League One and the tension was

:16:58. > :17:00.obvious on and off the pitch. Then with half`time approaching Kevin

:17:01. > :17:05.McDonald's goal finally reldased all that emotion. With Crewe reduced to

:17:06. > :17:08.ten men for the second half it seemed inevitable that Wolvds would

:17:09. > :17:14.go on and seal the victory but there was always a lurking fear of letting

:17:15. > :17:17.the lead slip. So when Dave Edwards scored the second all those worries

:17:18. > :17:25.were finally banished and the fans could start the countdown to the

:17:26. > :17:36.moment they'd dreamed of. I haven't missed a game, he has restored pride

:17:37. > :17:41.in my club. Many are local lads The owner has put a lot of loney

:17:42. > :17:49.into develop the Academy. It is great for the fans. We have to build

:17:50. > :17:55.on this, it is an exciting time and walls. We want to try to win the

:17:56. > :18:01.league. If we finish first, that is the aim. If you aren't happx with

:18:02. > :18:04.this, you aren't happy with anything.

:18:05. > :18:08.We should not really have bden in the league but it has been put right

:18:09. > :18:13.and we have been promoted and hopefully we will never see

:18:14. > :18:16.ourselves in this division `gain. The Championship will present a

:18:17. > :18:22.tougher challenge next season but worrying about that can wait for

:18:23. > :18:26.another day. So joy for Wolves but not much to cheer for the rdst of

:18:27. > :18:28.our teams. And the Villa ch`irman has written to fans today asking for

:18:29. > :18:32.their support. Paul Faulkner has put a statement on

:18:33. > :18:36.the club's website saying that now ` more than ever is a time for

:18:37. > :18:40.everyone to pull together. Ht's in response to Saturday's 1`nil defeat

:18:41. > :18:43.at Crystal Palace. Villa have now lost their last four matches are

:18:44. > :18:47.aren't yet clear of relegathon. Albion aren't safe either. They went

:18:48. > :18:50.3`nil up against Spurs but drew 3`3 as for the second home game running

:18:51. > :18:56.they conceded an injury timd equaliser. But Stoke won ag`in. They

:18:57. > :19:05.beat Newcastle 1`0. Erik Pidters scored the goal. But did he mean it?

:19:06. > :19:08.I'm not so sure. But Stoke are a happier camp than

:19:09. > :19:11.rivals Port Vale. They've announced today that they've

:19:12. > :19:14.sacked defender Daniel Jones. It follows an incident during training

:19:15. > :19:18.last week which left their captain Doug Loft with a facial injtry which

:19:19. > :19:28.has ruled him out for the rdst of the season.

:19:29. > :19:34.Not too many trips to Wembldy to look forward to. Maybe Burton

:19:35. > :19:38.Albion. The football season is reaching its climate that climax.

:19:39. > :19:42.The Commonwealth Games are dxactly 100 days away and for many sportsmen

:19:43. > :19:45.and women, the race is on to compete in Glasgow this summer. Among them

:19:46. > :19:49.is Jaime`Lea Winch, from Rugby, who won bronze in Delhi four ye`rs ago.

:19:50. > :19:53.Ian Winter has been to meet her It's a pretty safe bet that

:19:54. > :19:55.Jamie`Lea Winch was the onlx girl at Rugby High School whose favourite

:19:56. > :19:59.sport was lawn bowls. Jamie`Lea started playing at ten, and seven

:20:00. > :20:06.years later, she became the National Junior Champion.

:20:07. > :20:09.Very good by Jamie leave. Four years ago, Jamie Lea, still only 09,

:20:10. > :20:12.represented England at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. She

:20:13. > :20:15.loved the whole experience, the colour, the noise, the warmth of the

:20:16. > :20:19.people and she rose to the challenge. She bowled brillhantly

:20:20. > :20:26.and returned home to Rugby with a bronze medal.

:20:27. > :20:30.It was fantastic. The best experience I have had. Playhng

:20:31. > :20:34.against people at the top of their game. It brings it out view. I had

:20:35. > :20:38.great time. Today, it's exactly 100 days before the next Commonwealth

:20:39. > :20:41.Games. And Jaime Lea is praxing they don't start without her. Shd's just

:20:42. > :20:49.been chosen in the England squad of six. Only five players make the team

:20:50. > :20:55.so she is facing an anxious wait to learn if she is in or out of the

:20:56. > :21:00.gains in Glasgow. It would mean the world to le. I

:21:01. > :21:07.want to build an experience of last time and hopefully do better and get

:21:08. > :21:11.a different medal. How good is she? She is brilliant. Do you fancy had

:21:12. > :21:15.to get gold? I do. No hesitation. She will get gold.

:21:16. > :21:18.The final England team selection will take place here at the

:21:19. > :21:21.Kelvingrove Centre in May. State of the art facilities for the

:21:22. > :21:24.Commonwealth's finest bowlers. But first, Jamie Lea can't wait to start

:21:25. > :21:27.practising outdoors on grass. 1 0 days hard work lie ahead if she s to

:21:28. > :21:42.upgrade her previous medal from bronze to silver or gold.

:21:43. > :21:50.Warwickshire dismissed for 87 but Ian Bell 144 not out today. Good

:21:51. > :21:51.effort. Keep us posted on hdr progress.

:21:52. > :21:55.Thank you. Speculation's growing about a mural

:21:56. > :21:58.which has appeared on the shde of a Cheltenham home, thought to be that

:21:59. > :22:02.of the street artist Banksy. The images ` which surround a phone box

:22:03. > :22:04.in Hewlett Road ` show thred government secret agents

:22:05. > :22:07.eavesdropping on telephone calls. Although it hasn't been offhcially

:22:08. > :22:15.confirmed by Banksy's website ` many believe it bears all the
