:00:11. > :00:14.the Queen, whose 88th birthday it is Good evening. Two months after the

:00:15. > :00:16.devastating floods, shops and businesses in Worcester are hoping

:00:17. > :00:19.the Easter Holiday weekend will provide a much`needed boost to the

:00:20. > :00:22.local economy. Some businesses had to close after the River Severn

:00:23. > :00:24.burst its banks. Kevin Reidd reports.

:00:25. > :00:28.Worcester looks a totally dhfferent place than it did just two lonths

:00:29. > :00:31.ago, with riverside venues well and truly open for business. It's a far

:00:32. > :00:35.cry from when the River Sevdrn burst its banks. The Quay restaur`nt was

:00:36. > :00:38.one of the worst affected. We had the initial flood just after

:00:39. > :00:42.Christmas. We started getting prepared to open again and then we

:00:43. > :00:46.got hit worse than the first time. Luckily, we kind of prepared for it.

:00:47. > :00:54.It's been two`and`a`half months of redecorating, cleaning... Gdtting

:00:55. > :00:57.everything back up to open `gain. Downstream, and the Diglis Hotel is

:00:58. > :01:00.also welcoming the start of the tourist season. It survived the

:01:01. > :01:04.worst of the flooding but whtnessed the overall downturn, and it's one

:01:05. > :01:09.of a number of businesses which has benefited from a financial relief

:01:10. > :01:12.fund, receiving around ?5,000. But it's not just hotels and restaurants

:01:13. > :01:16.hoping for an Easter boost, also shops and businesses in the city

:01:17. > :01:20.centre just a short distancd from here. The shopping areas have long

:01:21. > :01:23.been back to normal ` and this department store says signs are

:01:24. > :01:28.good. Easter trade has started brilliantly and we're reallx

:01:29. > :01:33.encouraged by that. We're not where we'd like to be but we're m`king

:01:34. > :01:38.headway. Back down at the Sdvern and although it was a foe in thd winter,

:01:39. > :01:40.it's fast becoming a friend for the spring and summer. The medi`

:01:41. > :01:44.coverage did actually put Worcester back in people's minds. Somd came

:01:45. > :01:47.for flood tourism and perhaps want to see it when it's not flooded

:01:48. > :01:52.We're getting busier and busier and all of the work that the agdncies

:01:53. > :01:55.are doing is helping that. @nd what's more, the Severn will be

:01:56. > :02:04.celebrated in August with the announcement of the revival of the

:02:05. > :02:07.city's River Festival. Police have launched a murddr

:02:08. > :02:11.inquiry after a man who was injured in a fight outside a West Mhdlands

:02:12. > :02:13.pub died in hospital. The 27`year`old victim, who's bden named

:02:14. > :02:17.locally as Paddy Woodhall, was punched to the floor during disorder

:02:18. > :02:25.outside the Deer's Leap in Streetly on Friday. Four men, all in their

:02:26. > :02:28.20s, have been arrested. The head of Ofsted is to le`d the

:02:29. > :02:31.investigation into allegations of a hardline Muslim takeover plot at a

:02:32. > :02:34.number of Birmingham schools. Sir Michael Wilshaw will visit the city

:02:35. > :02:37.next week to meet those dirdctly involved in the inspections. Ofsted

:02:38. > :02:40.has assessed more than a dozen Birmingham schools in the w`ke of

:02:41. > :02:42.the so`called "Trojan Horse" allegations.

:02:43. > :02:45.The Roman Catholic Bishop of Shrewsbury has used his Easter

:02:46. > :02:48.Sunday address to speak out against moves to legalise assisted suicide.

:02:49. > :02:51.The Right Reverend Mark Davhes told worshippers that the sanctity of

:02:52. > :02:54.human life is at risk. Ahead of a Bill going before Parliament next

:02:55. > :02:57.month, he warned against ch`nging the law, saying he believes it would

:02:58. > :03:06."weaken" the protection givdn to vulnerable people. It's a moment

:03:07. > :03:15.when we have to be ready to speak for something so fundamental as the

:03:16. > :03:19.sacred value of human life htself. We're also concerned with how we

:03:20. > :03:23.care for those at the end of life, and to breach the very sanctity of

:03:24. > :03:29.human life with this change of the law is going to leave those people

:03:30. > :03:32.more vulnerable. While Christians in the reghon have

:03:33. > :03:35.been celebrating Easter, melbers of the Sikh community have been holding

:03:36. > :03:38.celebrations of their own today to commemorate Vaisakhi. In Coventry,

:03:39. > :03:46.local non`Sikh Charities also benefitted from the event, `s Nadine

:03:47. > :03:49.Towell reports. The streets of Coventry were filled with noise and

:03:50. > :03:57.colour as hundreds of Sikhs joined today's Vaisakhi procession. Because

:03:58. > :04:00.of what we believe in we're supposed to be identifiable in crowds of

:04:01. > :04:06.hundreds of thousands. So the colour, the turban... There goes a

:04:07. > :04:10.Sikh! At the time there was persecution and tyranny, a Sikh

:04:11. > :04:15.couldn't hid back in the crowd. You had to do your duty and help. The

:04:16. > :04:17.festival is one of the most important in the Sikh calendar,

:04:18. > :04:21.marking the founding of the religion. For local Sikhs, ht's

:04:22. > :04:28.important to celebrate in ptblic as one large community. It brings a lot

:04:29. > :04:36.of pride to us, to see the Sikh community join in and walk the

:04:37. > :04:41.streets. It's emotional. It makes you proud to be a Sikh when everyone

:04:42. > :04:44.is out on a day like this, hn unity. It's very important. Everyone looks

:04:45. > :04:50.forward to it and the community love to get together. Everyone fdels

:04:51. > :04:54.united. The celebrations brought other residents on to the streets,

:04:55. > :04:59.too. While some were happy to watch, others were keen to join in. As part

:05:00. > :05:02.of the procession, all along the route members give out free food and

:05:03. > :05:06.drink. Basically to keep those walking along full of energx!

:05:07. > :05:09.Non`Sikhs have also benefitdd from today's celebrations, as thd

:05:10. > :05:19.community donated to a numbdr of local charities.

:05:20. > :05:24.Let's check on the weather now with Charlie Slater. Good evening. Happy

:05:25. > :05:28.Easter. Watch out for some rain as we go through the next few hours.

:05:29. > :05:31.You can see from the colour it is quite heavy for a time, particularly

:05:32. > :05:33.through the counties of Herefordshire and Worcester.

:05:34. > :05:37.Thankfully through the night it does dry out and we're looking at seven

:05:38. > :05:43.or eight Celsius. Tomorrow, we might see brightness. But also thd odd

:05:44. > :05:46.shower. Mild temperatures btt maybe not feeling quite that mild when you

:05:47. > :05:51.factor in the rain. Probablx a good idea to keep the umbrella close at

:05:52. > :05:54.hand over the next few days. That's all for now; I'll be back

:05:55. > :06:07.just after quarter past ten tonight. Until then, enjoy your evenhng.

:06:08. > :06:14.Hello. Well, it was another lovely sunny day across the north of the

:06:15. > :06:16.UK. What a difference over the south. The rain set in for the

:06:17. > :06:24.course of the afternoon. There's more of that to come. It has been

:06:25. > :06:25.getting heavy across southern England. A narrow band for
