:00:00. > :00:10.Good evening. We are back

:00:11. > :00:12.Good evening. European election candidates from

:00:13. > :00:15.the Midlands have clashed in a special live debate on the BBC's

:00:16. > :00:19.Sunday Politics. Representatives of the four main parties gathered to

:00:20. > :00:22.discuss a range of subjects ahead of the elections on May the 22nd. But,

:00:23. > :00:25.as Kevin Reide reports, the debate was dominated by the issue of

:00:26. > :00:31.whether Britain should withdraw from the EU.

:00:32. > :00:36.In a united Europe a lot can be achieved, some would say ` take

:00:37. > :00:39.Eurovision for example. OK, not everybody's cup of tea, but like

:00:40. > :00:42.politics there are unexpected winners. So could that be so for

:00:43. > :00:44.prospective MEPs in the forthcoming European elections. Today on the

:00:45. > :00:52.Sunday's Politics show the West Midlands candidates set out their

:00:53. > :00:58.stalls, starting with the Tories. We are confident we have a good

:00:59. > :01:02.message. We believe our message is popular, the British people buy into

:01:03. > :01:07.what we are saying. There is still ten days to go. The Lib Dems are the

:01:08. > :01:11.most pro`European of the main parties, but the polls show they

:01:12. > :01:11.could end up with no West Midlands MEPs.

:01:12. > :01:15.ten days to go. The Lib Dems are the The polls are suggesting that we are

:01:16. > :01:22.concentrating in areas where will we believe the vote will come out for

:01:23. > :01:28.us. This is a region that depends on Europe for jobs, prosperity and

:01:29. > :01:31.economic. UKIP were set up to take Britain out

:01:32. > :01:36.of the EU altogether, and they're expecting major gains. 92% of this

:01:37. > :01:42.country cannot name their MEP. If I am elected, I will be elected to a

:01:43. > :01:49.chamber. The only parliament in Western Europe where we will not be

:01:50. > :01:53.a will to instigate legislation. Labour want to fight for jobs and

:01:54. > :01:56.growth within Europe, but their main West Midlands candidate believes

:01:57. > :01:57.focus on the real issues is being lost.

:01:58. > :02:03.People treat this election as Nigel Farage wants them to treat it, a

:02:04. > :02:06.referendum on the EU. This is a real election about real issues and that

:02:07. > :02:11.is what we should be concentrating on.

:02:12. > :02:15.So a week on Thursday voters in the West Midlands will be asked to put

:02:16. > :02:19.their X in one of these boxes next to one of the eleven parties

:02:20. > :02:22.standing and if you want to know more about the parties or the

:02:23. > :02:25.candidates you can find out on the bbc website where there's a special

:02:26. > :02:29.section. The results will be announced three days later on Sunday

:02:30. > :02:32.25th, but it's unlikely to be quite such a glitzy affair as last night's

:02:33. > :02:35.Euro vote. There will be more debate on the

:02:36. > :02:40.European elections tomorrow morning on BBC local radio. Adrian Goldberg

:02:41. > :02:44.will be the host as candidates talk about immigration, the economy and

:02:45. > :02:47.whether we should be in or out of Europe. That's between 11.00am and

:02:48. > :02:54.12.00pm on BBC WM, BBC Coventry and Warwickshire and BBC Shropshire.

:02:55. > :02:57.A 19`year`old man who was arrested after a man and woman were stabbed

:02:58. > :03:00.to death in Walsall has been released without charge. The woman

:03:01. > :03:03.and her former partner were found dead at a house in Hollemeadow

:03:04. > :03:07.Avenue yesterday morning. The 19`year`old, who is believed to have

:03:08. > :03:10.been known to them, was arrested at the scene. A police spokesman said

:03:11. > :03:18.the man would not face any further action and that he had provided

:03:19. > :03:22."invaluable information." A family of four had a lucky escape

:03:23. > :03:25.when a car ploughed into their Coventry home, demolishing the front

:03:26. > :03:29.door and ending up in the hallway. The car was stuck three`quarters of

:03:30. > :03:32.the way through the hall area after the crash in Earlsdon Avenue South.

:03:33. > :03:36.A woman passenger was taken to hospital but the man driving was not

:03:37. > :03:39.hurt. The ambulance service said two adults and two children inside the

:03:40. > :03:46.house were "extremely fortunate" to escape injury.

:03:47. > :03:48.Campaigners against the closure of a historic swimming baths in

:03:49. > :03:52.Birmingham have been rallying support at a special Open Day. The

:03:53. > :03:56.pool at Moseley Road Baths is due to close next year as part of council

:03:57. > :04:00.cutbacks. The listed building is one of over 240 around the region which

:04:01. > :04:03.are on the English Heritage "At Risk" register. Protesters say it's

:04:04. > :04:16.vital the baths are kept in public use. The argument is always there is

:04:17. > :04:22.no money for this. We must find the money because it is an important

:04:23. > :04:27.asset. It is the swimming that is under threat because under the

:04:28. > :04:36.council's sliming strategy, it is one of the community. Vocals. ``

:04:37. > :04:39.swimming. Onto football, and on the final day of the Premier League

:04:40. > :04:42.season, Aston Villa were beaten 3`0 down at Spurs, with all the goals

:04:43. > :04:46.coming in the first half. Meanwhile, Charlie Adam got the

:04:47. > :04:48.winner in Stoke City's 2`1 win at West Bromwich Albion.

:04:49. > :04:51.In League Two, Burton Albion will take a slender lead into the second

:04:52. > :04:55.leg of their play`off semifinal against Southend, despite playing

:04:56. > :04:58.for half an hour with ten men. Adam McGurk scored the only goal of the

:04:59. > :05:01.game just before half`time after latching onto Billy McKee's pass.

:05:02. > :05:05.The home side were reduced to ten men after an hour when Ian Sharps

:05:06. > :05:08.was sent off for a second bookable offence, but managed to hold on for

:05:09. > :05:10.a 1`0 win. Time for a look at the weather now

:05:11. > :05:21.with Sara Blizzard. Good evening. It has been a windy

:05:22. > :05:25.day today and we have some seen some heavy showers as well. We will see

:05:26. > :05:30.those heavy showers through the early part of next week. Much warmer

:05:31. > :05:40.conditions arriving towards the end of the week, we have showers

:05:41. > :05:43.filtering end. A minimum temperature of seven Celsius. Throughout

:05:44. > :05:49.tomorrow the strong winds will die down through Monday. The showers

:05:50. > :05:54.become heavily into the afternoon. With the wind being lighter, they

:05:55. > :05:56.will be slow moving as well. Daytime temperatures at a maximum of 15

:05:57. > :06:10.Celsius. That is it for now. I will Good evening. We have still got some

:06:11. > :06:14.very heavy showers out there. For ors we are finishing the day on a

:06:15. > :06:17.more positive note. Clearer skies to the south indicating sunshine but

:06:18. > :06:23.the cloud still streaming in further north. Tomorrow's forecast brings a

:06:24. > :06:26.similar mixture, sunshine and showers although the winds will

:06:27. > :06:29.start to be lighter. That process begins through the night tonight. A

:06:30. > :06:32.shattering of showers still possible. Clearer skies across

:06:33. > :06:35.northern Scotland probably our lowest temperatures here. For many

:06:36. > :06:41.temperatures will begin Monday morning at around 8 or 9 degrees

:06:42. > :06:45.already with a few showers around. I think be drier spells in between, as

:06:46. > :06:49.with the nature of showers, they are not everywhere all of the time.

:06:50. > :06:54.Cloudy with brighter spells mixed in across parts of northern England and

:06:55. > :06:57.southern Scotland already with the potential of one or two to be heavy.

:06:58. > :07:00.On northern Scotland on balance through the day on Monday while

:07:01. > :07:04.there could be a few showers, a slight improvement here. But they

:07:05. > :07:06.will start to develop throughout the afternoon and with lighter winds we

:07:07. > :07:08.are more likely to
