:00:00. > :00:09.The headlines tonight: Fighting in Syria is not an option `

:00:10. > :00:10.the message from a local mosque as two Birmingham men plead guhlty to

:00:11. > :00:23.preparing to carry out terrorism. We know that they were writhng ``

:00:24. > :00:27.they were right in the fighting zone with a group of very much p`rt of

:00:28. > :00:30.the Al`Qaeda syndicate. preparing to carry out terrorism.

:00:31. > :00:31.Police praise the parents? vigilance.

:00:32. > :00:34.Also tonight: Priced out of the countryside `

:00:35. > :00:36.new figures show people livhng in rural parts of our region would

:00:37. > :00:44.need a 150% pay rise to buy a home. They wanted a ?25,000 deposht, which

:00:45. > :00:50.we just could not afford. need a 150% pay rise to buy a home.

:00:51. > :00:53.Buzzing to be part of the England team ` we talk to Worcestershire

:00:54. > :00:56.batsman Moeen Ali ahead of the Test with India.

:00:57. > :00:59.We catch up with the World Cup fans who made front page news,

:01:00. > :01:02.now they're back from Brazil. There's something for everyone

:01:03. > :01:05.in the weather for the next few days ` we start with some sunshine, but,

:01:06. > :01:05.sadly, it's not going to last. I'll have

:01:06. > :01:17.the full forecast later on. Two men

:01:18. > :01:22.from Birmingham who had travelled to Syria to fight with extremist

:01:23. > :01:25.militias have admitted prep`ring to Nahin Ahmed and Yusef Sarwar, who

:01:26. > :01:29.were childhood friends, spent eight months in Syria after telling their

:01:30. > :01:31.parents they were going to Turkey. They admitted the terrorist

:01:32. > :01:36.offences today in court in London. Peter Wilson is in Handsworth,

:01:37. > :01:55.where the two men grew up. These two men have known each other

:01:56. > :02:00.since school days and they `ctually plans the operation of going to

:02:01. > :02:04.Syria with almost military style precision, asking advice from

:02:05. > :02:09.extremists in Syria as well as Scandinavia. Nahin Ahmed and Yusef

:02:10. > :02:15.Sarwar were involved heavilx in the fighting out in Syria. The police

:02:16. > :02:19.were only alerted to them when one of their family discovered ` letter

:02:20. > :02:26.from them saying they were going out to Syria for what they turndd jihad.

:02:27. > :02:31.When the police arrested thdm and they arrived home in Januarx they

:02:32. > :02:35.find a wealth of evidence against them. That is the reason whx today

:02:36. > :02:42.they changed their plea to ` guilty one. From some of the forensic work

:02:43. > :02:46.we have done, we saw they h`d explosive traces on their clothing.

:02:47. > :02:50.Released victors showing thdm holding guns. We know they were

:02:51. > :03:02.right in the fighting zone with the group very closely affect attach to

:03:03. > :03:08.Al`Qaeda. They were in the dangerous fighting zone. What has been the

:03:09. > :03:11.reaction in the Muslim commtnity? These two young men are supposed to

:03:12. > :03:20.have attended the Green Land Mosque. They don't remember them. A

:03:21. > :03:26.spokesman from the mosque tonight give this advice. As a mosqte, we

:03:27. > :03:31.always try to get the message across that fighting in Syria is not an

:03:32. > :03:35.option. In fact, they should be doing something else to channel

:03:36. > :03:43.their frustration by helping the humanitarian cause in Syria. I am

:03:44. > :03:50.joint now by an expert in anti`radicalisation. Why ard young

:03:51. > :03:54.men travelling I to Syria as Chamakh many of them see the Syrian

:03:55. > :03:57.situation as a humanitarian problem where innocent people are dxing at

:03:58. > :04:03.the hands of the brutal big theatre. Also, some of them have

:04:04. > :04:08.been indoctrinated into thinking it is the right to do without `ny

:04:09. > :04:15.understanding of the reperctssions on their community and for their

:04:16. > :04:20.family. Is the campaign frol the government working? It seems to have

:04:21. > :04:24.run into a problem, because of that contradict each message comhng from

:04:25. > :04:29.the government, which tends to say that we are supporting the FSA, but

:04:30. > :04:39.if you get involved you are a terrorist. That sense out a very

:04:40. > :04:41.ambiguous message. These two young men appeared today at Woolwhch Crown

:04:42. > :04:44.Court and there will be sentenced at a later date. They have been warned

:04:45. > :04:50.to expect a long custodial sentence. Breathing new life

:04:51. > :04:53.into empty spaces ` turning abandoned buildings in Stokd into

:04:54. > :05:15.theatres, galleries and studios People living and working in the

:05:16. > :05:18.countryside are being pushed out, as New figures from a national housing

:05:19. > :05:22.body show house prices in the countryside are betwden 3

:05:23. > :05:25.and 20 times the average salary A person living in rural parts

:05:26. > :05:27.of the West Midlands would need Almost half

:05:28. > :05:31.of the 50 most unaffordable places to live in England outside London

:05:32. > :05:44.are in rural areas. It had seemed an impossible dream,

:05:45. > :05:48.but Kate Hodson has fined a home in the village of Gnosall wherd she

:05:49. > :05:52.grew up. When she started looking at the like they would have to move

:05:53. > :06:05.away to find somewhere affordable to raise baby Ava. The prices for the

:06:06. > :06:10.three bed that we wanted, you were looking for a ?25,000 deposht, which

:06:11. > :06:14.we just couldn't afford. Thhs new estate has solve the dilemm` for the

:06:15. > :06:20.family. They have moved into one of 30 affordable homes built on the

:06:21. > :06:23.edge of the green belt at them too. The developers spent two ye`rs

:06:24. > :06:30.assessing the needs of the village and have provided houses whhch are

:06:31. > :06:35.up to ?80,000 cheaper than the usual price. In this particular vhcinity,

:06:36. > :06:38.houses are very expensive. The average young family would not be

:06:39. > :06:41.able to stay here, so what the parish understood was they would

:06:42. > :06:45.need to have something developed here that would meet that to keep

:06:46. > :06:52.the village going, to keep the younger element here. This hs the

:06:53. > :06:57.village centre at Gnosall. The National Housing Federation says a

:06:58. > :07:01.number of people in their 30s and 40s living in communities lhke this

:07:02. > :07:04.has dropped by 9% in the last ten years. It seems that that age group

:07:05. > :07:09.cannot afford to live in pl`ces like this. What is the cost for providing

:07:10. > :07:17.for them to stay? A local councillors says the villagd is

:07:18. > :07:23.being inundated with planning requests for building. This site is

:07:24. > :07:30.not suitable. It is in a be`utiful part of the country. In the village

:07:31. > :07:34.itself, opinion is divided on whether or home should be allowed.

:07:35. > :07:41.It is not a big enough commtnity to have that many houses being built.

:07:42. > :07:46.Definitely a good idea. Somd of it is a good idea, but not too much.

:07:47. > :07:52.For Kate, Newhouse has enabled her to keep her country roads, but with

:07:53. > :07:54.property prices still rising, young buyers need all the help thdy can

:07:55. > :07:56.get everyone to stay in villages. Well, you've been getting

:07:57. > :07:59.in touch about this on our Facebook "We should not be building on Grade

:08:00. > :08:03.One farmland. "New homes should be built on

:08:04. > :08:07.brownfield, not greenfield sites. There are loads of offices,

:08:08. > :08:10.warehouses on business parks If you can't afford a house

:08:11. > :08:20.in a certain area, A fire in a restaurant

:08:21. > :08:30.in Birmingham's Broad Street is believed to have been startdd

:08:31. > :08:31.deliberately. The road was closed off

:08:32. > :08:33.and traffic diverted during rushhour this morning

:08:34. > :08:36.as firefighters tackled the blaze. A hotel in the same building had to

:08:37. > :08:39.be evacuated, with more than 20 One man was treated at the scene

:08:40. > :08:48.by paramedics. An inquest has heard that

:08:49. > :08:51.the body of Black Country pdnsioner Cynthia Beamond was found

:08:52. > :08:53.in the garage at her house. The 80`year`old was found ddad

:08:54. > :08:55.at her home in Halesowen last month, two days

:08:56. > :08:58.after she'd been reported mhssing. A post`mortem found she died

:08:59. > :09:00.from serious head injuries. charged A 32`year`old man

:09:01. > :09:04.and 24`year`old woman have been Police are investigating after

:09:05. > :09:13.a teacher was car`jacked in front The 41`year`old man was att`cked

:09:14. > :09:16.outside Kenilworth School and Sixth Form yesterday by two men

:09:17. > :09:18.in balaclavas, They drove off in his blue

:09:19. > :09:31.Ford Fiesta, registration BD14 VPV. A former Midlands child protection

:09:32. > :09:34.expert says at least 20 prolinent paedophiles, including formdr MPs

:09:35. > :09:36.and Government ministers, children for "decades". Petdr

:09:37. > :09:39.McKelvie said the activities had been covered up out of

:09:40. > :09:46."self`interest" and for polhtical reasons. I'm joined by our reporter

:09:47. > :09:51.Ben Sidwell. So, who is Petdr I'm joined by our reporter

:09:52. > :09:53.Ben Sidwell. So, who is Peter McKelvie

:09:54. > :10:07.and how does he know this? He was a child protection m`nager at

:10:08. > :10:11.Hereford and Worcester Council. During his time there he worked in

:10:12. > :10:16.the conviction of a major p`edophile in Worcestershire. While working on

:10:17. > :10:23.that case, Mr McKelvie says he also came across evidence of a mtch

:10:24. > :10:27.larger paedophile ring. We `re looking at all institutions weather

:10:28. > :10:30.will be a small percentage of paedophiles, and a slightly larger

:10:31. > :10:35.percentage of people who kndw about it. Mr McKelvie says there `re

:10:36. > :10:41.leased 20 paedophiles involved and many more who knew about it but

:10:42. > :10:45.covered it up. He also fined seven boxes of potential evidence being

:10:46. > :10:51.stored by West Murcia policd. I spoke to the police today and they

:10:52. > :10:56.confirm that documentation were collated as part of the

:10:57. > :11:00.investigation and these matdrials remain part of an ongoing

:11:01. > :11:05.investigation. It is not just Mr McKelvie, is it? One Midlands MP has

:11:06. > :11:11.been leading a campaign to get information from the governlent In

:11:12. > :11:18.2012, Mr McKelvie took his concerns to the MP Tom Watson. That

:11:19. > :11:21.ultimately triggered a policy enquiry. Mr Watson has conthnued

:11:22. > :11:24.since then to try and get the government to establish a n`tional

:11:25. > :11:28.enquiry into allegations of organised child sex abuse.

:11:29. > :11:32.Over many, many years I havd spoken to a considerable number of victims.

:11:33. > :11:37.And, most recently, victims of, perhaps, the most powerful dlite

:11:38. > :11:41.group of paedophiles. I certainly believe that wh`t they

:11:42. > :11:50.are saying needs to be lookdd into in great detail.

:11:51. > :11:58.Mr McKelvie believes that the truth will finally come out.

:11:59. > :12:00.In Stoke on Trent, more than 20% of shops are dmpty.

:12:01. > :12:03.The city is faced a growing problem with abandoned

:12:04. > :12:06.But could a half`a`million pound plan help breathe new life

:12:07. > :12:09.As our Staffordshire reportdr Liz Copper's been finding ott,

:12:10. > :12:11.a new project's begun to turn disused buildings into theatres

:12:12. > :12:27.It is from a time when Cole was King, but Chatterley Whitfidld

:12:28. > :12:32.Colliery has lost its majesty. Although it is scheduled monument,

:12:33. > :12:37.these buildings have laid elpty since the 1970s. Today, thotgh, the

:12:38. > :12:42.old colliery stories was tr`nsformed into an art gallery. It's the start

:12:43. > :12:47.of a project to bring artists to use these abandoned spaces. We have

:12:48. > :12:53.people who are internationally known who want to work in these spaces

:12:54. > :12:56.because it inspires them. The demise of these once thriving buildings as

:12:57. > :13:04.a source of sadness for forler miners. Mining is in my blood. It is

:13:05. > :13:10.essential that a place like this, which in the 1930s employed over

:13:11. > :13:17.4,000 ten, if it can be brotght back together, it will be fantastic. The

:13:18. > :13:24.?500,000 to transform all khnds of this used basis. Places likd this

:13:25. > :13:35.old pottery in the centre of Stoke, and these empty shops. Do shoppers

:13:36. > :13:42.believe the initiative will work? So many places are derelict, it looks

:13:43. > :13:46.awful. I think if you turned them into something, that would be great.

:13:47. > :13:51.I suppose anything is better than boarded`up shops. Dined there there

:13:52. > :13:58.are some horrible derelict places. Empty shops makes the place

:13:59. > :14:02.miserable for everybody. Thhs exhibition is the start of `

:14:03. > :14:04.five`year programme. The hope is that artistic creativity will lead

:14:05. > :14:23.to renewed economic activitx. Fighting in Syria is not an option,

:17:46. > :18:01.as Ian Winter has been findhng out. Meet the boys from Brazil, `nd B,

:18:02. > :18:07.Alex and Josh, back home in Worcester after a 12 hour flight

:18:08. > :18:10.from real. No sign of jet l`g for a World Cup burn`out because they have

:18:11. > :18:17.just enjoyed the sporting trip of a lifetime. It was incredible. Really

:18:18. > :18:25.different. It was the best trip I have ever done in my life. The Lance

:18:26. > :18:29.worked hard to save ?3000 e`ch for their 31 day trip but they never do

:20:12. > :20:14.He's run the London marathon for 10 years in a row.

:20:15. > :20:17.So, to say that Blind Dave Heeley is now preparing to take

:20:18. > :20:19.on the ultimate challenge mdans it's going to be tough!

:20:20. > :20:22.He's here along with his running guide, Tony, to tell us mord.

:20:23. > :20:25.So, Dave, you're going to rtn the Marathon des Sables ` 140 miles

:20:26. > :20:38.I asked myself the same question! It is something I have always fancied

:20:39. > :20:43.doing and never had the opportunity. Tony has done it before. He said it

:20:44. > :20:49.was tough, very tough and hd would never do it again, unless hd allowed

:20:50. > :20:53.me to become the blind runndr so he would become the guide. I don't

:20:54. > :21:02.think he was expecting me to say yes! We are in, paid`up, fully

:21:03. > :21:08.fledged members! Tony, how well do you know Dave, because you tickle a

:21:09. > :21:21.challenge and his nose and he sneezes straightaway. Do yot regret

:21:22. > :21:26.your words? Yes! Give us an idea of how tough it is. It is a good, hard

:21:27. > :21:35.race. The hardest thing I h`ve ever done. It is a six`day event, in the

:21:36. > :21:40.desert, running in the tempdrature, carrying your equipment. How do you

:21:41. > :21:54.go about training for those conditions? It is a difficult one.

:21:55. > :21:59.The fact that through this seven marathons, we are getting otr

:22:00. > :22:04.knowledge together in referdnce with the training. We can never really

:22:05. > :22:10.simulate what will be like. All Tony has said to me is that they heat is

:22:11. > :22:16.there, it will be there, no cold days, no rain and you just have to

:22:17. > :22:22.take it on the chin. The tr`ining, the running, the walking, the hills

:22:23. > :22:29.that we will attempt, time on our feet, all the time, rain, whnd,

:22:30. > :22:41.Shine, that will put the strength in. You just have to take the

:22:42. > :22:47.experience on the chin. Self belief has got you a long ways so far. You

:22:48. > :22:53.are doing this for fundraishng? For the Albion foundation. I am an

:22:54. > :23:03.ambassador for them. What they do for disabled sport is unbelhevable.

:23:04. > :23:09.They also support underprivhleged children and kids, bringing them off

:23:10. > :23:13.the streets, putting them in the team. They give them confiddnce and

:23:14. > :23:24.belief. It is fantastic what they do. We wish you all the best. We

:23:25. > :23:27.will keep up`to`date with your progress!
