:00:16. > :00:18.the toast of the Black Country after becoming England's first gold

:00:22. > :00:26.And, to complete a Midlands double, Vicky Holland from Newent in

:00:27. > :00:39.A moment she'd spent her life striving for.

:00:40. > :00:43.The anthem confirmed that Jodie Stimpson is the Commonwealth

:00:44. > :01:03.This is like all year and I have to thank so many people who have got me

:01:04. > :01:07.through. To share a podium with Vicky is really special.

:01:08. > :01:10.Jodie's 25 and this a gold medal a long time in the making.

:01:11. > :01:13.She took up triathlon aged eight and began competing aged nine.

:01:14. > :01:18.She became a full`time athlete but funding was hard and a building

:01:19. > :01:24.Her main aim was to compete at London 2012.

:01:25. > :01:28.But she was controversially omitted from the team with the selectors

:01:29. > :01:35.So today, she was determined to make it count.

:01:36. > :01:39.Jodie was up with the pace through the swim, she

:01:40. > :01:54.And after setting the tempo for the run she kicked for home.

:01:55. > :02:00.She dashed for glory beating Canada's Kirsten Sweetland

:02:01. > :02:02.into second with Vicky Holland, from Newent, in Gloucestershire

:02:03. > :02:13.It is awesome that my family get to see me in a championship race after

:02:14. > :02:20.missing last time. It's been an emotional day `

:02:21. > :02:23.but one that Jodie Stimpson will And that was just the start

:02:24. > :02:27.of the medal rush for the region. Most of the success came in the

:02:28. > :02:30.velodrome as the cyclists fought out This is the first time that

:02:31. > :02:36.paralympic cycling has been a Commonwealth Games event

:02:37. > :02:38.and Halesowen's Helen Scott was Scott is the sighted pilot

:02:39. > :02:42.for visually impaired rider Sophie In the final they faced a Scottish

:02:43. > :02:47.duo with the roars of the home crowd driving them

:02:48. > :02:51.on but it was Helen and Sophie who came out on top, winning the first

:02:52. > :03:03.two races to clinch the gold. We don't know if we will be in the

:03:04. > :03:08.Commonwealth Games again but it is fantastic that one of our events is

:03:09. > :03:11.in. Maybe another one of our events may be put in as well.

:03:12. > :03:13.There were other gold medal chances on the track too.

:03:14. > :03:16.Kian Emadi from Stoke on Trent was third man in England's

:03:17. > :03:19.team sprint trio and he gave it his best shot but

:03:20. > :03:22.the New Zealand team were inspired and Emadi had to settle for silver.

:03:23. > :03:24.It was silver as well for Wolverhampton's Andy Tennant.

:03:25. > :03:26.He joined Sir Bradley Wiggins in the team pursuit

:03:27. > :03:29.but they were comfortably second best to Australia in the final.

:03:30. > :03:35.And there was yet another silver medal for Kelly Edwards from Telford

:03:36. > :03:43.She was controversially beaten on disqualification in the final

:03:44. > :03:51.And in the last hour there's been yet another medal.

:03:52. > :03:53.Kidderminster's Amy Smith was part of the English four

:03:54. > :03:59.by 100 metres freestyle team which won a silver in the pool.

:04:00. > :04:02.For the first time, retailers in Birmingham city centre's biggest

:04:03. > :04:09.The Muslim holiday on Monday marks the end of Ramadan.

:04:10. > :04:11.Amy Cole joins us now from the city centre.

:04:12. > :04:26.I have been hearing it has been successful. There has been a lot of

:04:27. > :04:31.people out and about enjoying and making the most of it. The city

:04:32. > :04:34.centre drive is underway but there are some local businesses that are

:04:35. > :04:43.concerned the city centre is cashing in. As the sun started to go down,

:04:44. > :04:47.the shoppers started to come out. The first time, shops and extended

:04:48. > :04:58.their opening hours so they could begin buying their goods in time for

:04:59. > :05:04.Eid celebrations on Monday. In trading terms, Eid is it on a par

:05:05. > :05:11.with Christmas. Feedback so far has been positive. Selfridge's are very

:05:12. > :05:16.busy and there is a lot more people out this evening and a lot more

:05:17. > :05:24.families out. How have shoppers reacted? Now we are all shopping, it

:05:25. > :05:31.is a good idea that they have done this. People leave it to the last

:05:32. > :05:36.minute. Not everybody is happy. This woman owns a clothes shop. For years

:05:37. > :05:41.she has stayed up late but is now worried about competition from the

:05:42. > :05:50.city centre. People used to come to Asian shops that nowadays, they are

:05:51. > :05:56.saying the city centre is open so they are rushing thereof than come

:05:57. > :06:01.to the small shops. For retailers, it is a gamble but so far looks to

:06:02. > :06:05.be paying off. Birmingham told me they would be looking closely at the

:06:06. > :06:09.figures over the next few days, analyse and report fall and the

:06:10. > :06:13.revenue that has been generated and if it is successful, they will look

:06:14. > :06:20.to do it again in October when the next Eid Holliday takes place.

:06:21. > :06:23.A teenage dwarf was asked to prove he was disabled when he tried to

:06:24. > :06:27.17`year`old Kain Francis has now been refused travel five times

:06:28. > :06:30.in the last two weeks because of the disability bike he uses to

:06:31. > :06:41.It's a disability aid that helps him get around.

:06:42. > :06:44.But over the last two weeks, when he's tried to catch the bus, it's

:06:45. > :06:59.We got on the bus and the guy was not having it. He said I couldn't

:07:00. > :07:01.bring my bike on the bus. He wouldn't let me speak. He asked me

:07:02. > :07:05.if it had stabilisers on it. The 17`year`old from Kingstanding

:07:06. > :07:07.in Birmingham has dwarfism Last night he was refused travel

:07:08. > :07:13.twice in 20 minutes and in one case, in front of a busy bus,

:07:14. > :07:25.the driver astonishingly asked him He was telling me that I had to

:07:26. > :07:31.prove I was disabled and I couldn't come on the bus until I could prove

:07:32. > :07:34.I was disabled. I asked him if he wanted to see my scars.

:07:35. > :07:36.Kain's family have already had a written apology

:07:37. > :07:39.from the bus company for the first incident two weeks ago,

:07:40. > :07:42.but as we found out this afternoon the problems are still continuing.

:07:43. > :07:46.We took the footage to show National Express West Midlands,

:07:47. > :08:07.It is happening every time I have tried to get on the bus. It is

:08:08. > :08:10.embarrassing. We are sorry for the inconvenience and didn't realise the

:08:11. > :08:15.anomaly quick enough and didn't understand what was causing this

:08:16. > :08:20.problem. We have acted very quickly and have got a letter out to him

:08:21. > :08:22.today that he can show to every driver and I am confident he will

:08:23. > :08:25.not experience this problem again. Kain and his family are hoping

:08:26. > :08:28.that's the case and he won't be left We'll be back at Breakfast

:08:29. > :08:34.from six tomorrow morning. Rebecca Wood has the weather

:08:35. > :08:47.forecast, a very goodnight to you. There is very little change for our

:08:48. > :08:51.forecast tomorrow. Things will get a little bit different but we do have

:08:52. > :08:57.another sunny day to come tomorrow. It will be warm and staying dry for

:08:58. > :09:02.the most part. We do have clear skies overhead and we could get mist

:09:03. > :09:06.patches developing. It is another sticky night with temperatures

:09:07. > :09:10.ranging between 15 and 16 Celsius. We start off tomorrow with those

:09:11. > :09:19.clear skies which means the sun will be out for most of us. Our

:09:20. > :09:23.temperatures are getting up to 27 Celsius. There will be a little more

:09:24. > :09:29.cloud about which will take the edge of temperatures. By the time we get

:09:30. > :09:30.through to Saturday, we have a weakening front that will bring

:09:31. > :09:52.spirals of rain. is getting too much for many people.

:09:53. > :09:59.By Sunday, the temp will be cooler than today. Tonight, another warm

:10:00. > :10:10.and comfortable night for sleeping.
