:02:40. > :02:44.incident during registration in a classroom, involving a knifd. The

:02:45. > :02:48.injuries did not require medical treatment and the assailants left

:02:49. > :02:51.the premises almost immediately after the incident. Plans wdre

:02:52. > :02:56.meetings they invented to ensure that all students and staff were

:04:38. > :04:41.Peter Wilson, reports. The fight against extremism is just

:04:42. > :04:44.as likely to take place over a cup of coffee in a Birmingham

:12:26. > :12:27.to see inside buildings It's part of

:12:28. > :12:32.a scheme called Heritage Opdn Days but there are fears much of that

:12:33. > :12:38.heritage is fast crumbling `way Bob Hockenhull has been finding out

:12:39. > :12:41.why some of the historic buhldings at greatest risk are

:12:42. > :12:49.in our biggest city, Birmingham There's a mosaic

:12:50. > :12:51.of historic buildings scattdred Some people believe too

:12:52. > :13:08.many are decaying. A city is judged partly on the basis

:13:09. > :13:12.of its heritage. Birmingham, I don't think puts that heritage... It does

:13:13. > :13:14.not give it a high enough priority. One of the oldest languishes unused,

:13:15. > :13:18.covered in scaffolding, The 16th century Golden Lion pub,

:13:19. > :13:25.a rare example of a surviving Tudor building,

:13:43. > :13:51.it was the centre of life hdre. That's likely to be put back in ``

:13:52. > :13:52.that's life needs to be. `` that life.

:13:53. > :13:54.Birmingham City Council says the Golden Lion isn't a priority.

:13:55. > :13:57.So park users are drawing up their own plans to make it

:13:58. > :14:00.It's a different prospect for this beautiful old building

:14:01. > :14:03.Bloomsbury Library, built in 18 2, shut last year because

:14:04. > :14:10.The council's decided to sell it off.

:14:11. > :14:17.It is a building that the council should be proud of. But it seems

:14:18. > :14:18.prepared to just let it go. The council admits it's

:14:19. > :14:21.a struggle to preserve Birmhngham's It's had to reduce its consdrvation

:14:22. > :14:37.officers from seven to two. We have lost capacity over ` number

:14:38. > :14:39.of years because of cuts from central Government. It is not a

:14:40. > :14:41.political point, it is a re`lity. The council's now working whth

:14:42. > :14:43.private landlords and the Heritage Lottery, hoping to attract

:14:44. > :14:46.funds to preserve Birminghal's The Jaguar XE is being described

:14:47. > :15:00.as the most important car in JLR's It'll be unveiled later tonhght

:15:01. > :15:05.but the Internet and car magazines have been awash with images

:15:06. > :15:08.of what it could look like. More than a billion pounds has gone

:15:09. > :15:11.into development, including a Jaguar production line inside the huge

:15:12. > :15:15.Land Rover plant in Solihull. The launch of the baby Jag takes

:15:16. > :15:19.place in London this evening and our business corresponddnt

:15:20. > :15:21.Peter Plisner is there. Peter, this is the big one for JLR,

:15:22. > :15:31.isn't it? It certainly is, hence the reason

:15:32. > :15:35.they have a launch party like this. 3000 guests getting a launch party

:15:36. > :15:40.like this. 3000 guests getthng they want to know what the car looks

:15:41. > :15:47.like. Within the hour, we should know what the car looks likd. We

:15:48. > :15:54.know it will be built in solar hole. `` Solihull.

:15:55. > :16:06.Heading for the roof of a c`r park. 1000 workers helping out with a

:16:07. > :16:15.publicity stunt. Look up and then watch them come through.

:16:16. > :16:17.With two vital letters almost formed, next,

:16:18. > :16:19.enter the Red Arrows flying a thousand feet over the factory.

:16:20. > :16:23.But you can't miss this, the new robots that make up

:16:24. > :16:26.a vast new production line within at the Solihull factory

:16:27. > :16:31.Alan Volkerts, who's in charge here, he says it makes perfect sense to

:16:32. > :16:35.produce a Jaguar at a plant that has previously only made Land Rovers.

:16:36. > :16:43.It is the most efficient wax to build our products. Culturally, it

:16:44. > :16:48.is a big change. There are lany people who have not built J`guars

:16:49. > :16:56.year, but they will build world`class cars. This body shop

:16:57. > :17:01.presents one of the `` reprdsents one of the biggest investments here.

:17:02. > :17:02.600 robots are being installed and are being commissioned.

:17:03. > :17:05.And here are some of the workers who will make that happen.

:17:06. > :17:08.Andy McFarlane was recruited through a special programme designed to

:17:09. > :17:22.I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do when I left the Army. Looking

:17:23. > :17:25.around the companies that wdre recruiting, I don't think I could

:17:26. > :17:26.have found a better fit than Jaguar Land Rover.

:17:27. > :17:30.We know its name and we know where it'll be built,

:17:31. > :17:35.but so far this teaser video is all we've seen of the new car.

:17:36. > :17:37.But this Midlands`based motoring journalist who's seen the c`r

:17:38. > :17:40.maintains that the Jaguar XD will need to live up to the hype, because

:17:41. > :17:50.I think people are getting ` little tired of the German dominance. They

:17:51. > :17:56.have proven they can beat the German five series and I think people will

:17:57. > :18:01.look at this, it has the Jaguar name and Jaguar have revitalised

:18:02. > :18:06.themselves. They need volumd, they need a big seller and this car

:18:07. > :18:06.cannot afford to be good, it has to be outstanding.

:18:07. > :18:09.And that's the reason so much effort has gone

:18:10. > :18:11.into what's being billed thd biggest global launch Jaguar's ever staged.

:18:12. > :18:14.With the XE under the spotlhght but still under wraps,

:18:15. > :18:17.at least for another hour or so it promises to be big show

:18:18. > :18:23.And the XE isn't just important to JLR, companies

:18:24. > :18:27.across the region are counthng on it being a success aren't they, Peter?

:18:28. > :18:32.Because it's a completely ndw model, it does mean more work of

:18:33. > :18:38.Millions of pounds worth of work has already been pl`ced with

:18:39. > :18:42.companies all over the region and we've been to two of them to assess

:18:43. > :18:52.Helping to mould the future, this firm has only started making parts.

:18:53. > :18:57.There are three factories in the Midlands and they make bumpdrs here.

:18:58. > :19:03.It is one of the most important contracts the company has ever won.

:19:04. > :19:09.They already make parts for Nissan and the latest big order me`ns more

:19:10. > :19:15.work, more investment and more jobs. Leighton is one of them working on

:19:16. > :19:21.the new contract. So busy at the moment. With the XE, we are at the

:19:22. > :19:27.contract stage. We are awaiting the launch. This company producds parts

:19:28. > :19:31.for JLR, it is good news for the West Midlands as a means parts are

:19:32. > :19:41.being made here. It is posshble to get them from France, but it is not

:19:42. > :19:46.economically do so. `` economic Some parts being fitted to the

:19:47. > :19:51.bumper are made by other colpanies. One part is this headlight brackets.

:19:52. > :19:59.That bracket is made here at the Sutton firm. They make around 3

:20:00. > :20:03.parts for the Jaguar XE. It is impressive knowing that we `re

:20:04. > :20:12.helping making the part. Jenna has more workers here is a direct result

:20:13. > :20:19.of the model. We have spent about ?5 million. We have put that into

:20:20. > :20:27.machines and people. Now I never to machines to come. `` there `re

:20:28. > :20:34.another. The Jaguar XE is completely new. Ultimately, it should lean

:20:35. > :20:43.opportunities for companies all over the West Midlands. Joining le is the

:20:44. > :20:50.global marketing director. Why such a big launch? Jaguar has a long

:20:51. > :20:59.history with the Earls Court. We have had no less than 14 latnches

:21:00. > :21:05.here. It is a great venue, hconic, good venue for a huge celebration of

:21:06. > :21:10.Jaguar's history. The XE is an important car, will it live up to

:21:11. > :21:16.the hype? It is the first c`r in a brand`new platform. Take is into the

:21:17. > :21:23.corporate segments, it is a car with 99 grams, a kilometre of CO2,

:21:24. > :21:29.fuel`efficient. It is a verx competitive market, Europe `gainst
