:00:13. > :00:24.A family's search for answers, eight year after their son died

:00:25. > :00:26.after being sent home from hospital with a ruptured spleen.

:00:27. > :00:28.We'll be reporting live from the inquest.

:00:29. > :00:57.Shock claims that 95% of sexual offences on buses go unreported

:00:58. > :00:59.Just the ticket for commuters in Shropshire, as Virgin get

:01:00. > :01:02.the go`ahead to start direct train services from Shrewsbury to London.

:01:03. > :01:05.Stars on the red carpet as the new series of Peaky Blinders gets

:01:06. > :01:09.Like clockwork, autumn arrives and the temperatures ease down ` notch.

:01:10. > :01:11.A fresher, cooler week ahead, but bathed in glowing sunshhne.

:01:12. > :01:29.If there are any glitches, H'll be telling you about them l`ter

:01:30. > :01:33.Eight years after he died, a couple are hoping that a new

:01:34. > :01:36.inquest will reveal the truth about the treatment of their 20`ydar`old

:01:37. > :01:39.John Moore`Robinson went to Stafford A on 1st April 2006

:01:40. > :01:45.He'd suffered a ruptured spleen but it wasn't diagnosed.

:01:46. > :01:48.He was discharged and died the next day.

:01:49. > :01:50.An inquest into his death w`s held a year later.

:01:51. > :01:53.But, last August, the verdict in that inquest was quashed

:01:54. > :02:05.Michele Paduano has been at the Coroner's Court in Leicdster.

:02:06. > :02:11.It reads like a film script, a second inquest last year interrupted

:02:12. > :02:17.because new witnesses had bden found. John Moore`Robinson's father

:02:18. > :02:24.is hoping this time he will finally get the whole truth. To losd a child

:02:25. > :02:33.is life changing. We have to travel this road to find the truth. We owe

:02:34. > :02:38.that to John. It needs to bd done. It has been done, all but the final

:02:39. > :02:46.day. He had fallen off his lountain bike. Despite paramedics suggesting

:02:47. > :02:51.he had life`threatening injtries he was discharged from Stafford

:02:52. > :02:55.Hospital. His family arrived today to hear from a junior doctor who

:02:56. > :02:59.examined him. He accepted whth hindsight that John

:03:00. > :03:05.Moore`Robinson's observations were not normal and his two should have

:03:06. > :03:09.seen them sooner. He was asked if he had carried out a full investigation

:03:10. > :03:14.at the time. He said, I think that I did. When asked that that w`s

:03:15. > :03:18.reflected in the notes, you he said it is lacking from a documentation

:03:19. > :03:23.at the time. It is not something I am proud of. Last year we

:03:24. > :03:28.interviewed one of the new once witnesses to come forward. He said

:03:29. > :03:31.they were pressurised to relove patients from AMD. We didn't have

:03:32. > :03:53.bricks. `` Breaks. A matron said that staff

:03:54. > :03:56.should have recognised his hnjuries and kept him in hospital ovdrnight.

:03:57. > :03:58.Well, Michele is in Leicester this evening.

:03:59. > :04:00.This inquest is due to last five days, Michele.

:04:01. > :04:07.Who will the coroner be hearing from?

:04:08. > :04:11.We are expecting to hear from the person who wrote the report that was

:04:12. > :04:21.so critical of the hospital back in 2,000 and `` 2007. This is the first

:04:22. > :04:26.opportunity he has had to s`y in a public arena exactly what hd felt

:04:27. > :04:31.about the issues that took place that day. Then there will bd a

:04:32. > :04:35.series of accident and emergency experts who will look at thd wider

:04:36. > :04:40.scheme of things. The issue here is for the family, they want to get to

:04:41. > :04:47.the truth. The NHS has to rdalise that this had been dealt with

:04:48. > :04:48.properly in the first place, all the problems with Stafford Hosphtal not

:04:49. > :04:51.have happened. Good to have you with us thhs

:04:52. > :04:54.evening here on Midlands Today. Why protesters joined a march

:04:55. > :04:58.in support of an education centre It is believed that over 95$

:04:59. > :05:04.of sexual offences committed on public transport in the

:05:05. > :05:07.West Midlands go unreported. The figure comes from West Lidlands

:05:08. > :05:11.Police, who have begun a calpaign called Project Empower to t`rget

:05:12. > :05:13.offenders and help passengers understand when they've been

:05:14. > :05:30.the victim of a sexual assatlt. It was during a regular journey that

:05:31. > :05:36.a woman we are calling Katid was sexually assaulted. I kept trying to

:05:37. > :05:40.move my legs away but he was a lot bigger than me. He kept tryhng to

:05:41. > :05:47.put his arm around me. I kept moving away. Then he asked me to ghve him a

:05:48. > :05:54.kiss. I kept moving my head. He kept doing it and I moving my he`d. Katie

:05:55. > :05:57.called the police as soon as she got off the bus but understand that

:05:58. > :06:03.people are reluctant to do so. We know that these offences ard

:06:04. > :06:12.occurring at a regular basis. We believe that less than 5% rdported

:06:13. > :06:18.to us. Of the a sexual offence on public transport, some of the

:06:19. > :06:22.offences are very common. I suspect we'll get onto a bus where there are

:06:23. > :06:27.empty seats but will choose to set beside a lone female passenger. They

:06:28. > :06:33.described being almost pinndd against the window. They talk about

:06:34. > :06:39.not being able to move. Would female students go to the police if they

:06:40. > :06:49.were treated inappropriatelx? Nothing would be done. It h`ppened

:06:50. > :06:54.so often. I don't think ( nhce that, but it happened so often thdy would

:06:55. > :07:00.just brush it off. Police are now going on public transport to tell

:07:01. > :07:04.people to call 999. With caleras across the transport network, CCTV

:07:05. > :07:08.can be retrieved weeks after an incident so when Katie went to the

:07:09. > :07:10.police suspect was identifidd, arrested and charged.

:07:11. > :07:16.You can see more on that on Inside Out tonight at 7.30 here on BBC .

:07:17. > :07:18.A suspected illegal immigrant has been discovered clinging to

:07:19. > :07:20.the bottom of a coach carrying school pupils

:07:21. > :07:23.The 35`year`old from Sudan was arrested as the party

:07:24. > :07:26.arrived at Perry Beeches Ac`demy in Great Barr late on Saturday.

:07:27. > :07:28.He had been hanging onto the axle for 250 miles.

:07:29. > :07:37.He's been detained on suspicion of immigration offences.

:07:38. > :07:40.The mobile phone operator ed is to buy 58 stores from the Staffordshire

:07:41. > :07:43.company Phones 4U, which fell into administration last wedk.

:07:44. > :07:46.The deal means the jobs of 359 shop staff will be s`ved

:07:47. > :07:50.However, thousands of posts remain at risk at Phones 4U, which had

:07:51. > :08:00.operated more than 700 outldts and had more than 5,500 staff.

:08:01. > :08:03.A fire which broke out at the site of an old school campus

:08:04. > :08:05.in Wolverhampton last night was started deliberately.

:08:06. > :08:08.Around 30 firefighters tackled the blaze in the dining hall and kitchen

:08:09. > :08:15.The building had been due for demolition.

:08:16. > :08:17.The Royal Shakespeare Company is to receive ?1.5 million

:08:18. > :08:19.from the Government to translate the Bard's work into Mandarhn.

:08:20. > :08:22.It's also been granted a further ?300,00 to help ftnd

:08:23. > :08:29.The Culture Secretary says creating stronger links with China is a top

:08:30. > :08:39.priority for the Government and it will help boost visitor numbers

:08:40. > :08:42.Virgin Trains have been givdn permission to run a direct rail

:08:43. > :08:47.It follows a long campaign to restore the route after Wrexham and

:08:48. > :08:52.Virgin's application was given approval earlier today by the Office

:08:53. > :08:57.It now plans to start trains running in December.

:08:58. > :09:00.Our Transport Correspondent, Peter Plisner, is with me now.

:09:01. > :09:05.Peter, its great news, but we've been here before haven't we?

:09:06. > :09:09.This is now the fourth attelpt to make money running trains

:09:10. > :09:12.Before rail privatisation, British Rail used to run tr`ins to

:09:13. > :09:15.the capital, but that service ended in 1892.

:09:16. > :09:18.Soon after the railways went private

:09:19. > :09:20.Virgin launched a new service, but, within a couple of years,

:09:21. > :09:25.that stopped too, with the company claiming it just wasn't viable.

:09:26. > :09:29.Then, in 2008, came the Wrexham and Shropshire service, which sadly

:09:30. > :09:34.suffered during the recession and the last train ran in January 2 11.

:09:35. > :09:36.So, what makes this service different from the others?

:09:37. > :09:45.A question we put to Virgin earlier today.

:09:46. > :09:53.We can run our trains directly through from Shrewsbury to London

:09:54. > :09:56.without the need to attach `n electric locomotive. We can run the

:09:57. > :10:00.trains at The Times that will be popular. If you live in Shrdwsbury

:10:01. > :10:04.or coming up to visit the thme from London, you will have a track times

:10:05. > :10:05.which means that the trains are well filled.

:10:06. > :10:07.What are the timings of the new services?

:10:08. > :10:10.The new service is set to bdgin on 14th December this year.

:10:11. > :10:13.There will be two trains per day in each direction.

:10:14. > :10:15.To London, there'll be a peak time departure at 6.39am

:10:16. > :10:18.It is due to stop at Wellington and Telford.

:10:19. > :10:19.When it reaches Wolverhampton, it will become

:10:20. > :10:23.a normal service to London, stopping in the usual places.

:10:24. > :10:31.There will also be an off`pdak service leaving Shrewsbury `t just

:10:32. > :10:34.The two trains from London will be at around

:10:35. > :10:39.What has the Shropshire bushness community said about today's news?

:10:40. > :10:42.Not surprisingly, they've welcomed it.

:10:43. > :10:44.This latest service comes after a long campaign by many

:10:45. > :10:47.businesses who have always lade it clear that Shropshire is ond of

:10:48. > :10:52.the only counties in England without a direct rail service to London

:10:53. > :10:54.But, like before, this will be viewed

:10:55. > :10:58.Unlike other routes, there will be no Government handouts

:10:59. > :11:01.to help run the trains, so the service needs to attract

:11:02. > :11:04.passengers and make money, otherwise this could be another one that gets

:11:05. > :11:11.The future of a training centre for youngsters with learning

:11:12. > :11:13.difficulties in Warwickshird will be decided this week.

:11:14. > :11:16.The County Council say, with "shrinking resources",

:11:17. > :11:19.they have to consider how training can be delivered in a

:11:20. > :11:23.But campaigners maintain the most vulnerable youngstdrs are

:11:24. > :11:39.Michael dreams of being a mdchanic or an engineer. He has struggled in

:11:40. > :11:44.mainstream schools that belheves specialist vocational units like

:11:45. > :11:49.this centre in Nuneaton havd turned his life around. I find the

:11:50. > :11:56.opportunities very useful. They help people out in ways that othdr

:11:57. > :12:01.centres probably don't. Thex help students who have been thrown out of

:12:02. > :12:04.other schools. Other training providers would just say th`t we can

:12:05. > :12:09.handle them if you have been thrown out of schools. The Academy caters

:12:10. > :12:16.for teenagers with special educational needs. The head is angry

:12:17. > :12:21.that this service is not under threat. These are the most

:12:22. > :12:27.vulnerable learners in the county. If they have vocational trahning

:12:28. > :12:31.they have an opportunity of finding work. If they are not given this

:12:32. > :12:36.sort of training they will be unemployed and unemployable.

:12:37. > :12:40.Protesters took to the stredts to object to the potential closure of

:12:41. > :12:46.the centre and to present a 170 name petition urging councillors to

:12:47. > :12:53.think carefully. Times have not changed for the young peopld. They

:12:54. > :12:56.want to come and get some b`sic support from the centre and the

:12:57. > :13:00.smaller organisations, and that can be a springboard to go on to

:13:01. > :13:04.college. They are ripping the heart out of the young people to lake

:13:05. > :13:08.their own decisions and havhng the decisions made for them. Thdre may

:13:09. > :13:13.not be dozens of people on this march but what campaigners say is

:13:14. > :13:17.the opportunities Centre helps some of the most vulnerable youngsters in

:13:18. > :13:27.society and enabled them to have a future. I think they were bding put

:13:28. > :13:33.on the scrapheap. Without this bridge between school and college,

:13:34. > :13:35.these children would stand ` chance. The County Council will deb`te

:13:36. > :13:38.future of the on Thursday. Sent home from hospital with

:13:39. > :13:42.a ruptured spleen ` an inquest is told how a 20`year`old

:13:43. > :13:49.man died after a cycling accident. We have

:13:50. > :14:07.your detailed weather forec`st to IM live in it and to meet the Mayor

:14:08. > :14:09.and his sporting guests who struck gold in the Black Country.

:14:10. > :14:11.How the fledgling Black Country Orchestra has managed to te`m up

:14:12. > :14:14.with an award`winning composer who has written scores for films such

:14:15. > :14:24.Did you get hooked on the drama series Peaky Blinders

:14:25. > :14:27.I certainly did, and fellow fans were in for a treat

:14:28. > :14:30.last night as the world preliere took place of the new series.

:14:31. > :14:33.The story is based on a real`life gang in Birmingham in the l`te

:14:34. > :14:38.Stars of the show came to the citx last

:14:39. > :14:42.For one local actor, it was a first time experience in lore ways

:14:43. > :14:53.than one, as our Arts Reporter Satnam Rana has been finding out.

:14:54. > :14:55.Birmingham?s Broad Street h`s a red carpet.

:14:56. > :14:58.Fans and stars of BBC gangster drama Peaky Blinders here for

:14:59. > :15:16.I play a very complicated character. It is exhausting playing hil,

:15:17. > :15:21.actually. I love it, so I fdel privileged. What about the haircut?

:15:22. > :15:22.Yes, that is another issue. I wouldn't recommend it.

:15:23. > :15:24.But for this young man from Birmingham,

:15:25. > :15:27.He plays Finn, the youngest Shelby sibling,

:15:28. > :15:35.and was cast from open auditions in the city earlier this ye`r.

:15:36. > :15:41.I have never done autographs before, it is quite overwhelming! It

:15:42. > :15:41.is overwhelming. Away from the red carpet,

:15:42. > :15:44.this is the everyday realitx From homework on

:15:45. > :16:01.a trailer to waiting for yotr call. GCSE revision is the norm, but for a

:16:02. > :16:03.few months acting professionally is an ambition fulfilled.

:16:04. > :16:05.But this teenager is as cool as a cucumber,

:16:06. > :16:23.When I was younger I thought I want to be an actor. Now it is h`ppening,

:16:24. > :16:24.it has just about sunk in. Ht is a dream come true.

:16:25. > :16:27.Peaky Blinders is back on BBC Two next month and

:16:28. > :16:29.for Harry this is just the beginning of what life could be

:16:30. > :16:38.like once he's seen by millhons of fans on the small screen.

:16:39. > :16:40.You can watch a longer interview with the star

:16:41. > :16:43.of Peaky Blinders, Cillian Lurphy, on our Facebook page.

:16:44. > :16:49.Series two starts on BBC Two at 9.00pm on Thursday, 2nd October.

:16:50. > :16:52.On to sport now and utter rdlief for West Bromwich Albion fans ydsterday.

:16:53. > :16:59.When West Bromwich Albion khcked off at Tottenham they were bottom of

:17:00. > :17:02.the Premier League and still looking for their first win of the season.

:17:03. > :17:04.Yet, 90 minutes later, they were celebrating a historic victory

:17:05. > :17:09.in North London, which liftdd them out of the League's bottom three.

:17:10. > :17:12.Is this the man to save Albhon's season?

:17:13. > :17:15.Jolean Lescott finally made his debut yesterday.

:17:16. > :17:21.If he wasn't trying to scord against Tottenham, he was m`king

:17:22. > :17:32.His fine performance, along with Albion's,

:17:33. > :17:37.was capped by James Morrison's headed winner 13 minutes from time.

:17:38. > :17:40.The Baggies first win at Tottenham in 30 years also lifts them

:17:41. > :17:54.It hasn't been easy for the squad, or the management staff. Thd wind is

:17:55. > :17:58.massive for the crowd going into next week. Burnley will be ` great

:17:59. > :17:59.opportunity for us. Aston Villa's great start to

:18:00. > :18:02.the season came apart in just over That was how long it took Arsenal to

:18:03. > :18:06.score three times Perhaps Villa's implosion could be

:18:07. > :18:10.due to a illness which swept the squad and has led to a

:18:11. > :18:13.quarantine at the training ground. No such problems for Stoke City

:18:14. > :18:15.but despite twice taking to the lead at QPR,

:18:16. > :18:19.they had to settle for a 2`2 draw. It was a similar story for

:18:20. > :18:22.Birmingham City in the Championship. Demarai Gray put them 2`0 up

:18:23. > :18:26.at Norwich City, before former striker Cameron Jerome

:18:27. > :18:30.pegged them back to 2`2. They took the lead against Bolton

:18:31. > :18:37.with Nouha Dicko's scrappy dffort. But they needed Carl Ikeme's

:18:38. > :18:40.double penalty save to secure the In League One, Port Vale's caretaker

:18:41. > :18:45.manager, Rob Page, enjoyed ` perfect Mark Marshall's jinking run and shot

:18:46. > :19:02.giving Vale a 2`1 win over Barnsley. Disappointment for Warwickshire

:19:03. > :19:04.on Saturday at Lord's in thd It all hinged on the toss,

:19:05. > :19:10.as it often does Warwickshire lost the toss `nd only

:19:11. > :19:14.scored 165 from their 50 ovdrs. In fact, they only lasted 47

:19:15. > :19:16.overs in difficult conditions. Durham had a few nervy moments

:19:17. > :19:19.in their reply as Warwickshhre But, in the end,

:19:20. > :19:22.they got comfortably home whnning by three wickets with almost 10

:19:23. > :19:27.overs to spare. But they have already won the

:19:28. > :19:31.T20 Blast and they can still finish Their final game starts

:19:32. > :19:44.tomorrow against Durham. It is a big night for some

:19:45. > :19:46.of Wolverhampton's finest sportsmen The Mayor is hosting a

:19:47. > :19:49.Civic Reception to mark the city's success at the

:19:50. > :19:51.Commonwealth and Invictus G`mes Wolverhampton is proud

:19:52. > :20:01.of its sporting success over the past couple of months

:20:02. > :20:03.and that's why they're celebrating Four medals at the Commonwe`lth

:20:04. > :20:12.Games in Glasgow ` bronze in the wrestling, silver in the cycling,

:20:13. > :20:15.two gold in gymnastics and the x400 Plus, one gold at the Invictus Games

:20:16. > :20:22.last week for Andrew Roberts Andrew, how good was it to

:20:23. > :20:33.win gold against the USA? It was amazing. To beat the

:20:34. > :20:42.Americans have their own sport, especially in front of such a big

:20:43. > :20:47.crowd and so many people watching on TV. The games copy imaginathon of

:20:48. > :20:54.everybody watching. He got hnjured five years ago. How much of a row

:20:55. > :20:58.has basketball played in yotr rehabilitation? It has playdd a

:20:59. > :21:05.massive part in my recovery. I started playing it in Febru`ry. It

:21:06. > :21:18.has been such a success, to win gold at the bit of schemes, it h`s been

:21:19. > :21:25.fantastic. Matthew, congrattlations. How much did the medal mean to you?

:21:26. > :21:29.It meant the world to me. I did not expect from this year, so it has

:21:30. > :21:34.been a roller`coaster, especially with the first medal of the relay,

:21:35. > :21:40.not thinking I was going to win it. Crazy. Here are some picturds from

:21:41. > :21:47.July. Your heart must have been pounding. As soon as I got the bat

:21:48. > :21:52.on, the crowd went crazy. I think that is what spurred me on to just

:21:53. > :22:05.keep running. At the time wd were behind. Wolverhampton is very proud
