:00:57. > :01:07.Hear all about it in the forecast later.

:01:08. > :01:17.That's how police have described a gang of up to 200 bikers

:01:18. > :01:19.who caused chaos on the strdets of Solihull and

:01:20. > :01:22.Seven people have been arrested and ten motorbikes seized,

:01:23. > :01:25.but the so-called Halloween ride-out was just the latest in a series

:01:26. > :01:28.of incidents in the area in the last few months.

:01:29. > :01:36.These are the 200 bikers police are describing as "a menace".

:01:37. > :01:38.Riding scramblers, quad bikds and mopeds, the gang hijackdd

:01:39. > :01:42.the road in Kings Norton just after 9pm last night.

:01:43. > :01:45.The group wasn't just out for an evening ride.

:01:46. > :01:53.A police van was attacked and there are reports fireworks

:01:54. > :02:07.Hundreds, loads of them. I thought, oh, what is going on here? @bout

:02:08. > :02:15.150, really loud, skidding `cross the road, doing wheelies. It was

:02:16. > :02:18.mad. It is ridiculous. Why were they even doing it? Are they causing

:02:19. > :02:20.danger to people on the roads and things like that?

:02:21. > :02:23.Many of the riders had their faces covered as they sped along roads,

:02:24. > :02:25.jumped red lights, weaved through traffic and "pulled

:02:26. > :02:33.Officers say their actions were illegal and they're looking

:02:34. > :02:43.These people do pose a thre`t to ordinary members of the public. I

:02:44. > :02:46.have a lot of sympathy for lembers of the public going about their

:02:47. > :02:52.normal business and then encountering this lot on thd roads.

:02:53. > :02:55.Utterly disgraceful. We havd described them as a menace `nd that

:02:56. > :02:57.is what they are, a menace to other road users.

:02:58. > :02:59.In Leeds, similar scenes filmed last night.

:03:00. > :03:01.All part of what's being called a Halloween ride-out,

:03:02. > :03:03.and it seems to have been organised and choreographed

:03:04. > :03:11.This was shot two weeks ago in Kings Norton.

:03:12. > :03:20.It has been like this now on and off for about two months. They ride

:03:21. > :03:22.round with no helmets on our number plates, no lights, sort is getting

:03:23. > :03:25.out of hand. This event scared locals,

:03:26. > :03:28.but at least one biker was hurt too, suffering chest injurids

:03:29. > :03:33.after colliding with a car. Tom is at the scene

:03:34. > :03:36.of those dramatic pictures A lot calmer now but it must

:03:37. > :03:41.have been a frightening So what can police do

:03:42. > :03:49.to stop it happening again? Well, seven arrests have already

:03:50. > :03:55.been made since last night. Five of those were men. Two of them have

:03:56. > :04:01.been described as youth malds by officers. They have also sehzed ten

:04:02. > :04:05.bikes, three were reported stolen. They will also be doing what a lot

:04:06. > :04:10.of us have been doing today and that is scouring social media to try and

:04:11. > :04:15.identify who it was that drove through cottage and other p`rts of

:04:16. > :04:17.Birmingham last night on bo`rd those bikes.

:04:18. > :04:23.This has happened there before. How worried are local people?

:04:24. > :04:29.You saw in the footage that only a couple of weeks ago, hikers go

:04:30. > :04:32.through the area. -- bikers. People are worried and concerned bdcause

:04:33. > :04:41.last night a fire engine cotld not get to a 999 call-out. Officers were

:04:42. > :04:46.surrounded by 100 bikers who try to kick in the windows and smash wing

:04:47. > :04:50.mirrors. This evening, people here are very worried but officers

:04:51. > :04:55.themselves will have a bit of extra pointed self interest to sed they

:04:56. > :04:58.can find those responsible. Tom, thank you.

:04:59. > :05:01.You might associate things that go bump in the night with Halloween,

:05:02. > :05:04.but people living near a Shropshire school had quite a fright l`st night

:05:05. > :05:07.when the bomb squad had to blow up a bottle of chemicals

:05:08. > :05:11.The Thomas Adams School in Wem has apologised for the loud explosion,

:05:12. > :05:13.but insist they were only following official advice.

:05:14. > :05:16.They say they didn't have thme to warn their neighbours because

:05:17. > :05:30.It was the noise that got the Shropshire town of Wem talking.

:05:31. > :05:32.For those living nearby, last night's explosion came

:05:33. > :05:41.And they didn't expect it to make such a big bang!

:05:42. > :05:43.I walked to the school to sde what it was about,

:05:44. > :05:46.because everyone said it was a bomb that had gone off.

:05:47. > :05:48.So I went to see what it was, but it wasn't.

:05:49. > :05:56.The answer to that can be found at the Thomas Adams School.

:05:57. > :06:01.Over half-term, they receivdd an e-mail warning them

:06:02. > :06:21.about a chemical used by A-level students, which stated...

:06:22. > :06:34.This chemical is an orange to red powder that if it becomes dry,

:06:35. > :06:35.can become explosive on the friction turn.

:06:36. > :06:40.So, with the container, if the lid was to be opened

:06:41. > :06:48.The school checked and found it did have an old bottle of the chemical,

:06:49. > :06:52.so they called the police, who called the bomb squad.

:06:53. > :06:55.The bomb disposal team came from Tewkesbury.

:06:56. > :06:58.They got the chemical and btried it about one foot in the ground.

:06:59. > :07:01.And then, at six minutes to eight, they detonated the substancd.

:07:02. > :07:04.And now this is all that relains from the Wem explosion.

:07:05. > :07:06.Wem is a quiet market town and people aren't used

:07:07. > :07:12.Certainly having a bomb disposal squad, as seen around the town,

:07:13. > :07:14.probably sparked a little bit of interest.

:07:15. > :07:16.But I think people have perhaps panicked slightly

:07:17. > :07:20.With all the school's stock of the chemical disposed of, things

:07:21. > :07:37.West Midlands Police have confirmed they attended two other inchdents to

:07:38. > :07:40.dispose of old chemicals in the last few days at schools in

:07:48. > :07:50.interchange project which whll also include the Metro tram line

:07:51. > :07:52.being extended to the station. Building work is expected

:07:53. > :07:56.to start next year. A video has emerged which appears

:08:04. > :08:07.online earlier today. The force's Professional St`ndards

:08:08. > :08:10.Department says the highest standards are expected from officers

:08:14. > :08:19.trying to locate a missing It's been a week since 27-ydar-old

:08:20. > :08:23.Joshua Smith was reported mhssing. He was last seen crossing r`ilway

:08:24. > :08:27.lines near his home in Stond. Today, his mother wanted to alert

:08:28. > :08:32.motorists on the A51, where it's believed he may have

:08:33. > :08:34.crossed and walked along thd canal. It's thought he was planning

:08:35. > :08:38.to take his own life. He will have had to have cole

:08:39. > :08:43.up onto the A51 here, and then either he has walkdd back

:08:44. > :08:45.down onto the canal, slightly further along the @51,

:08:46. > :08:54.or he has gone across the road and that would take him somdwhere

:09:12. > :09:15.to help the children, many of whom are traumatised

:09:16. > :09:17.by the violence of war and If he has just arrived, he has to go

:09:18. > :09:35.to the police or social services. An SOS from a desperate young Afghan

:09:36. > :09:38.refugee in the UK. Liz Clegg gets calls like this

:09:51. > :09:58.been raped so often, And young boys abused

:09:59. > :10:05.by traffickers. He was forced into the back of

:10:06. > :10:08.the car head down by the smtgglers. He was panicking when he was put

:10:09. > :10:11.in the boot, but they beat him Put the other people

:10:12. > :10:18.in the boot and shut it. It's all a far cry from the peace

:10:19. > :10:24.and love of Glastonbury, where, as a litter picker,

:10:25. > :10:26.Liz read of the Jungle Then I went back to work

:10:27. > :10:33.and realised I was stood in a field with thousands

:10:34. > :10:35.of tents, sleeping bags, camping equipment,

:10:36. > :10:38.and it was exactly what the article I thought I would do

:10:39. > :10:41.my cheeky little bit. Bring a few sleeping bags,

:10:42. > :10:45.you know, a couple Yeah, that is what I thought

:11:21. > :11:24.on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hotr I want to help as much

:11:25. > :11:36.as she does, I think. I actually feel I am in a privileged

:11:37. > :11:41.position to be able to help her and I am lucky to be able to get

:11:42. > :11:45.straight to her and work Earlier this month, Liz won

:11:46. > :11:51.The Woman of the Year Courage Award and used the opportunity to put

:11:52. > :11:55.pressure on Theresa May to do more - handing her a list of 52 yotng girls

:11:56. > :11:58.who qualified for refuge here. Assaults on police officers

:11:59. > :12:08.are on the increase. New figures show nearly 600 officers

:12:09. > :12:11.from the West Midlands forcd were assaulted on duty in the first

:12:12. > :12:14.nine months of this year. It's a growing trend,

:12:15. > :12:16.with violent crime also on the rise. On the day the figures

:12:17. > :12:19.were released, West Midlands Police announced it's introducing

:12:20. > :12:22.new technology to help officers Our special correspondent,

:12:23. > :12:26.Peter Wilson, has the details. Fireworks used like missiles,

:12:27. > :12:36.launched at a police van last month. This year alone, nearly 600 officers

:12:37. > :12:43.have been hurt in the line of duty. I only spoke to an individu`l this

:12:44. > :12:49.morning who was assaulted a couple of days ago in Sandwell,

:12:50. > :12:53.who received a fractured cheekbone as a result

:12:54. > :12:57.of being hit in the face. That individual will be

:12:58. > :12:59.off work never several And, ultimately, that is ond more

:13:00. > :13:12.officer off the streets who should be out there protecting the public

:13:13. > :13:18.of the West Midlands. Today at the new-look Lloyd House,

:13:19. > :13:21.the West Midlands Police HQ, news about yet more

:13:22. > :13:23.change at the force. New technology for the cops

:13:24. > :13:25.of the future - body But how will that protect the public

:13:26. > :13:29.and the police? They will have new mobile kht that

:13:30. > :13:32.will enable them to deal with crime effectively without coming back

:13:33. > :13:34.to the station so much. They have new batons which help them

:13:35. > :13:36.to protect themselves from some of the threats

:13:37. > :13:39.they face on a daily basis. Fundamentally, this

:13:40. > :13:41.is about as modernising the way that we deliver policing

:13:42. > :13:43.so that we can be as The police have already

:13:44. > :13:46.undergone massive change. 3000 police officers and st`ff

:13:47. > :13:53.have lost their jobs. Last year, 17 police station

:13:54. > :13:56.front offices were closed And this one here in

:13:57. > :14:00.Steelhouse Lane is the only police station in the whole

:14:01. > :14:09.of the West Midlands open 24/7. We've already seen the forcd

:14:10. > :14:11.stretched this week with big Last year, the Crime Commissioner

:14:12. > :14:15.warned of a funding crisis We are certainly facing problems

:14:16. > :14:21.with our budget and I have said quite clearly to the Chancellor

:14:22. > :14:24.that there should be no further cuts We have taken the biggest hht of any

:14:25. > :14:31.force in the whole country. What we're looking at today

:14:32. > :14:34.is partly our response to that, Technology can make a difference

:14:35. > :14:38.and drive real change, but without police numbers,

:14:39. > :14:40.the safety of officers and the public will continud to be

:14:41. > :15:17.a cause for concern. The Government's come under further

:15:18. > :15:19.pressure to give financial support to the families of the victhms

:15:20. > :15:22.of the Birmingham pub bombings. Fresh inquests are due to bd held

:15:23. > :15:25.into the 21 victims of the `ttack in 1974 - relatives want

:15:26. > :15:28.the same sort of funding provided for families

:15:29. > :15:29.for the Hillsborough inquests. Labour's Justice spokesman

:15:30. > :15:31.Richard Burgon raised the issue in the Commons earlier which drew

:15:32. > :15:37.this response from I made it clear that this ddbate

:15:38. > :15:39.that the Home Office and justice officer working on that, looking at

:15:40. > :15:42.the precedence of what happdned in Hillsborough and looking at all the

:15:43. > :15:42.matters which have been discussed in that debate.

:15:43. > :15:44.Thanks for joining us on Midlands Today, this

:16:39. > :16:43.who has fashion blogging and a new clothing line all sewn up.

:16:44. > :16:49.Meet the new chip generation. Young people are arming thousands and

:16:50. > :16:56.building a huge online fan base So many dumb jokes --

:17:16. > :17:18.has been seen by more than a million people.

:17:19. > :17:21.And that means that what was once a hobby for Fred

:17:22. > :17:26.I told my friend I wanted to earn enough to pay rent

:17:27. > :17:33.But that was three or four years ago.

:17:34. > :17:40.YouTubers like Fred earn thdir money from adverts placed

:17:41. > :17:48.It is thought they receive on average around $2 for every 100

:17:49. > :17:50.people who view them. Fred's YouTube channel

:17:51. > :17:52.gets on average around ten million views each month,

:17:53. > :17:55.with an estimated income And some YouTubers make thehr money

:17:56. > :18:02.thorough sponsorship deals. And blogger Habiba Da

:18:03. > :18:10.Silva does just that. Around a million a month

:18:21. > :18:25.pretending to be someone else, I am being myself,

:18:26. > :18:33.and the genuineness on soci`l media really attracts people a lot

:19:32. > :19:36.after just 3 minutes. Wilfried Bony scoring his fhrst goal

:19:37. > :19:42.for Stoke - although his celebration was muted as he was scoring

:19:43. > :19:45.against his former club. Wayne Routledge heading

:19:46. > :19:50.an equaliser six minutes later. But the second half

:19:51. > :19:52.was dominated by Stoke. Starting with a trick and a treat

:19:53. > :19:56.from Ramadan Sobhi. The Egyptian's shot was turned

:19:57. > :19:59.into his own net by the Swansea Goal number three was

:20:00. > :20:10.entirely Stoke's making. Joe Allen - another former Swan -

:20:11. > :20:21.was the provider, Bony the scorer The amount of times an all boy comes

:20:22. > :20:25.back and haunts his previous club... It was always likely to happen. I

:20:26. > :20:30.think it was in the stars tonight. And we're grateful. Wilfried has

:20:31. > :20:32.been doing really well for ts. He needed the goal, clearly, and his

:20:33. > :20:39.overall performance was good. So as the nights close in,

:21:41. > :21:42.250,000 people a year. But it is not cheap to run

:21:43. > :21:45.and the team at Severn Valldy If you purchase shares in the share

:21:46. > :21:52.offer and become a shareholder, you are buying a part of thd history

:21:53. > :21:58.and heritage of the railway and you will see that,

:21:59. > :22:04.specifically for this share offer, the money raised through

:22:05. > :22:06.the purchase will be spent `lmost This is not the first time

:22:07. > :22:10.Severn Valley Railway have offered people the opportunity to bty shares

:22:11. > :22:14.in the organisation. But this time, all of the money

:22:15. > :22:19.is going to Bridgnorth We're going to build a new cafe

:22:20. > :22:25.and toilet facility on platform one and it will be done in completely

:22:26. > :22:29.authentic Great Western style. Then the main building itself,

:22:30. > :22:31.the station building, which is a grade two listed

:22:32. > :22:38.building, is going to be conserved and restored

:22:39. > :22:39.to its Victorian splendour. Thousands lined the platforls

:22:40. > :22:45.in September as the Flying Scotsman rolled into town on a

:22:46. > :22:47.tour of the country. With events like that and a lot

:22:48. > :22:50.of steam engines growing, the team are convinced

:22:51. > :22:52.they are having better facilities For many years, we wanted to provide

:22:53. > :23:04.a new refreshment room up to modern standards and we struggled

:23:05. > :23:08.to firstly get planning for it and then we are now having

:23:09. > :23:11.to fund it. But it is a careful balance

:23:12. > :23:14.between old and new and protecting What we designed is a buildhng

:23:15. > :23:18.to give more modern facilithes to the passengers that

:23:19. > :23:22.are using the station, using traditional Great Western R`ilway

:23:23. > :23:26.design techniques of around 190 . With ?2.5 million worth

:23:27. > :23:31.of shares up for sale, there are plenty of opportunities

:23:32. > :23:33.to own a slice of history and protect Bridgnorth

:23:34. > :23:47.station for the future. Welcome to the pub, one of the most

:23:48. > :23:50.popular spots on the station. I don't blame them because it is

:23:51. > :23:55.rather chilly out there. Thhs is one part of the station that will

:23:56. > :24:00.benefit from the possible ?2.59 Nick is the general manager of the

:24:19. > :24:21.And the individual that is laking the share offer purchasers buying

:24:22. > :24:26.into the history and heritage of this wonderful Railway. It hs

:24:27. > :24:29.something which is really close to a lot of people's hearts. We saw the

:24:30. > :24:35.crowds of people coming to see the Flying Scotsman. Do you expdct the

:24:36. > :24:39.shares to fly? I hope so. Wd have had a lot of applications already

:24:40. > :24:46.and a lot of interest prior to the launch today. Over 1000 people who

:24:47. > :24:52.are not shareholders at the moment have expressed interest in our share

:24:53. > :24:56.offer. And I think, regionally and nationally, the railway is held in

:24:57. > :25:02.high regard as a place to love and cherish. Very quickly, what does

:25:03. > :25:08.being a shareholder of the Severn Valley Railway get you? The travel?

:25:09. > :25:12.There are benefits. If you have 100 shares or more, you get levdls of

:25:13. > :25:16.travel benefit through the xear which you will get you after year,

:25:17. > :25:21.as long as you hold the shares. Fantastic. You never know, xou might

:25:22. > :25:25.also be able to comment herd and get a pint! You never know.

:25:26. > :25:30.A bit of a grey start to November - let's see if Shefali can brhng us

:25:31. > :25:38.Yes, sunny days and frosty nights sums it up for this week, apart from

:26:15. > :26:19.stag in mist. You can see the weather front to the

:26:24. > :26:26.down and lead to temperaturds plunging before this next sxstem

:26:27. > :26:30.moves in from the West. This will be judging the course of Thursday. For

:26:31. > :26:34.this evening and overnight, now that it is dark and the front is out of

:26:45. > :26:48.cities, the coldest spot in Southwest Herefordshire and

:26:49. > :26:51.Worcestershire with lows of two Celsius. We will get a bit of Mr

:26:52. > :26:55.Ness but not follow that we saw last night. That takes us into the

:26:56. > :27:00.morning tomorrow. It is a mhsty start to the day but largelx clear.

:27:01. > :27:05.Cracking day with lots of stnshine developing very early on and lasting

:27:06. > :27:14.right through until dark. Temperatures lasting at arotnd

:27:19. > :27:21.skies will clear first thing and temperatures fall away to freezing

:27:22. > :27:27.for the south-west. Just below freezing in the countryside. Like

:27:28. > :27:31.tonight, we will see a Prost. Quite widespread. That will take ts into
