:00:19. > :00:20.owners discovered it dead in its paddock in Staffordshire.

:00:27. > :00:30.This is Monty, a 12-year old Shetland Pony savaged to death

:00:31. > :00:32.at his paddock in Burntwood on Christmas Eve by three

:00:33. > :00:37.It's left the owner and his family devastated.

:00:38. > :00:45.Around his mouth had been torn open, he had lost a lot of blood.

:00:46. > :00:51.The family from Great Wyrley had rescued Monty from a pitiful

:00:52. > :00:57.He had a chain left embedded in his neck and

:00:58. > :01:00.we were advised to have him put to sleep when we first had him

:01:01. > :01:03.and the vet said they would keep him in and see

:01:04. > :01:11.So it's awful for him to lose his life.

:01:12. > :01:13.Monty had his own purpose-built stable at Lamb's Lodge Farm,

:01:14. > :01:21.Staffordshire Police deployed dog handlers and an armed response unit

:01:22. > :01:24.to capture the roaming dogs and they say they have now been

:01:25. > :01:31.Meanwhile, they are making enquiries under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

:01:36. > :01:39.He could not even run away because he had a bad shoulder.
