:01:30. > :01:32.simply abandoned by taxi drivers who don't want to have to deal
:01:33. > :01:40.In 2015, the BBC in the Midlands went undercover with a Staffordshire
:01:41. > :01:43.Two years on, she says it's still happening.
:01:44. > :01:53.Balga Vandeel's used taxis in Stoke on Trent for years
:01:54. > :01:56.but she realised she was being charged more than her friends
:01:57. > :02:01.Sure enough, secret filming revealed several clear cut cases of drivers
:02:02. > :02:17.charging her more than an able bodied person for the same journey.
:02:18. > :02:19.She presented her film to Stoke on Trent city council
:02:20. > :02:32.We can do as much training as possible with existing drivers but
:02:33. > :02:35.we should also work with some of the disabled groups in the city to make
:02:36. > :02:37.sure that anyone who uses the services of our drivers know what to
:02:38. > :02:39.expect. new laws have come into force
:02:40. > :02:43.meaning this kind of discrimination is now illegal, and could mean
:02:44. > :02:55.a fine for a driver of up I'm really, really excited to say
:02:56. > :03:11.that from today, it is going to become illegal to charge extra for
:03:12. > :03:14.carrying a wheelchair. There will be assistance for wheelchair users to
:03:15. > :03:16.get into taxis and for using wheelchairs.
:03:17. > :03:19.Stoke on Trent city council is now encouraging disabled users
:03:20. > :03:22.to report any such offences and say they will take action.
:03:23. > :03:35.Most taxis have these telescopic ramps which don't help all
:03:36. > :03:40.wheelchairs, including Bal's. It means drivers will be forced
:03:41. > :03:52.to upgrade their vechiles costing You can get new ramps, but what
:03:53. > :03:59.comes into it. I would need to get all these read on. -- don a game.
:04:00. > :04:03.But John Walley, who's driven for 16 years and just bought a new cab
:04:04. > :04:06.at over ?31,000, says it's up to drivers to up their game.

:04:45. > :04:47.all taxi drivers and operators. We put information out to the general
:04:48. > :04:51.public about overcharging as well because it is quite a complex area
:04:52. > :05:03.and there are some nuances which mean it is difficult for us to take
:05:04. > :05:04.action. And we have to be a -- ask anyone who faces discrimination to
:05:05. > :05:13.get in tops. -- in touch. An NHS physiotherapist from Solihull
:05:14. > :05:16.is facing deportation back to India Anand Kumar, who's been working
:05:17. > :05:20.in Britain for the last eight years, has been told he can't stay any
:05:21. > :05:22.longer because of a change He's now started an online petition
