:00:13. > :00:16.Daniel Sanzone was today convicted of murdering baby Joshua

:00:17. > :00:19.by shaking him so violently he caused "catastrophic"

:00:20. > :00:28.The judge described it as a "tragic and distressing case".

:00:29. > :00:31.Today, a jury at Birmingham Crown Court also found him guilty

:00:32. > :00:35.But the baby's mother Zoe Howell was allowed to walk free,

:00:36. > :00:37.after the jury cleared her of a charge of causing

:00:38. > :00:39.or allowing her son's death and neglect.

:00:40. > :00:44.Joshua Millinson was born a bright and healthy baby.

:00:45. > :00:48.But 13 days later, he suffered catastrophic brain injuries

:00:49. > :00:51.at the hands of his own father.

:00:52. > :00:53.It is very difficult to comprehend

:00:54. > :00:57.and understand Sanzone as a character

:00:58. > :01:00.and what would lead him to do something so tragic to such a

:01:01. > :01:05.Here in the lounge of this house, last October,

:01:06. > :01:09.here in Pendeford, Daniel S`nzone violently shook Joshua leavhng him

:01:10. > :01:12.with brain injuries so severe, he could no longer hear,

:01:13. > :01:18.He claimed a loud noise heard that night was not him

:01:19. > :01:21.injuring his child, he was simply moving the settee

:01:22. > :01:25.Joshua's mother Zoe Howell had separated from Sanzone

:01:26. > :01:33.She clutched a baby's toy each day of the trial.

:01:34. > :01:35.She denied causing or allowhng her baby's death by

:01:36. > :01:40.effectively turning a blind eye to his violence.

:01:41. > :01:43.The first year of a child's life is the time in which

:01:44. > :01:44.they are most vulnerable to becoming

:01:45. > :01:46.a victim of homicide because young

:01:47. > :01:48.children of that age are very

:01:49. > :01:49.demanding, they are very vocal in

:01:50. > :01:50.terms of their needs and having

:01:51. > :01:54.And where you have parents who are unwilling or

:01:55. > :01:56.unable to meet those needs, you have

:01:57. > :01:59.got a potentially dangerous situation.

:02:11. > :02:27.as she attempted CPR on the lifeless baby.

:02:28. > :02:29.Joshua Millinson died at Birmingham's Children's

:02:30. > :02:38.Parents know the difference between right and wrong.

:02:39. > :02:40.things, making things up, not

:02:41. > :02:42.attending appointments and those are

:02:43. > :02:43.all really, really important red

:02:44. > :02:47.Zoe Howell and Joshua were regularly visited by community midwivds

:02:48. > :02:54.And they consistently encountered a healthy and alert child.

:02:55. > :02:57.The parents brought Joshua here to A at New Cross Hospital on

:02:58. > :03:02.two separate occasions in the days before the shaking incident,

:03:03. > :03:04.apparently concerned about breathing difficulties and a possible

:03:05. > :03:09.But a junior doctor examined the baby and found no cause for

:03:10. > :03:13.concern and the parents then failed to show for a follow-up check.

:03:14. > :03:17.But the court was told that bone specialists have concluded that

:03:18. > :03:20.Joshua may have suffered a of fractures before

:03:21. > :03:32.So could the agencies who c`me into contact with this family

:03:33. > :03:35.and even entered the house had done anything to prevent Joshua's death?

:03:41. > :03:44.Two children and a man have been found dead in a house in Hinckley

:03:45. > :03:49.Police were called to the house last night.

:03:50. > :03:51.Our reporter Nicola Beckford is in Hinckley for us now.

:03:52. > :04:06.Police were called to this house in Welwyn Road at about half p`st nine

:04:07. > :04:08.yesterday evening, following a disturbance. Negotiators were

:04:09. > :04:12.brought in and they make contact with a man and a woman inside the

:04:13. > :04:16.house. What happened next w`s a stand-off and that went on for a

:04:17. > :04:19.couple of hours until the e`rly hours of the morning. Later, a woman

:04:20. > :04:22.was found. She was injured `nd she was found. She was injured `nd she

:04:23. > :04:27.was taken to hospital where she remained in a stable condithon.

:04:28. > :04:29.Early on, we spoke to the ddtective who is leading the investig`tion.

:04:30. > :04:32.The officers entered the address and they found a male who h`s been

:04:33. > :04:37.Tragically, and very traumatically, the officers, on searching the

:04:38. > :04:42.address, have also found two deceased children.

:04:43. > :04:47.At this stage, the enquiries are at a very early

:04:48. > :04:50.stage and we are trying to understand what happened last night

:04:51. > :05:04.What is the latest tonight? The man has been named locally as

:05:05. > :05:10.43-year-old David Stokes. The two children are believed to be his

:05:11. > :05:14.sons, five-year-old Adam and 11-year-old Matthew. The wolan is

:05:15. > :05:18.believed to be his wife. Now, we don't know how they died so

:05:19. > :05:22.postmortem will need to be carried out to establish the facts. What we

:05:23. > :05:26.do know however is that the police state that they are not looking for

:05:27. > :05:30.anybody else in connection with this tragic incident. Thank you.

:06:49. > :06:52.and bruises in the incident, the start of which was caught on camera.

:06:53. > :06:55.He was threatened with a knhfe and imitation gun, but,

:06:56. > :06:59.as Giles Latcham reports, he was in no mood to give in.

:07:04. > :07:09.On his way, a tunnel he has driven through thousands of

:07:10. > :07:12.times but then up ahead, a menacing figure loomed into view.

:07:24. > :07:25.But it soon became clear, it was his Ford S-Max.

:07:26. > :07:29.The 75-year-old was bundled from the vehicle.

:07:30. > :07:31.The other one pulled a knifd and my

:07:45. > :07:58.The robbers did drive off briefly but stalled the car

:07:59. > :08:01.at the top of the road allowing Mr Mathers time to catch up

:08:02. > :08:06.I mean, I am 75, I did my bdst and apparently it worked.

:08:07. > :08:09.The police say they are takhng this incident

:08:10. > :08:11.extremely seriously, officers are patrolling

:08:12. > :08:15.A 17-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

:08:16. > :08:17.Detectives are looking for two more suspects, all

:08:18. > :08:21.described as in their late teens and of Asian appearance.

:08:22. > :08:24.Normally we advise people not to fight back in

:08:25. > :08:29.those circumstances but Anthony acted very bravely, very heroically

:08:30. > :08:32.to maintain control of his vehicle and to prevent them from

:08:33. > :08:43.The former Land Rover worker paid a price

:08:44. > :08:46.though, thrown to the ground three times before he wrestled his keys

:08:47. > :08:48.from the robbers but he says he would do it all again.
