:00:11. > :00:12.Birmingham Prison, says he was "surprised" by last

:00:13. > :00:18.That's despite a recent report which said urgent action was needed

:00:19. > :00:19.to prevent an attack on prison officers.

:00:20. > :00:22.More than 400 inmates have been transferred to other

:00:23. > :00:24.jails, following 12 hours of disturbances last Friday.

:00:25. > :00:27.They started after an inmate stole some keys from a prison

:00:28. > :00:31.Havoc and hi-jinks captured on mobile phones

:00:32. > :00:34.as hundreds of prisoners took control of HMP Birmingham.

:00:35. > :00:36.Lighting fires in stairwells, burning paper records.

:00:37. > :00:38.Five days on, order restored and a visit

:00:39. > :00:44.Just a few months ago Sam Geemah was in charge

:00:45. > :00:50.I have been here today meeting the staff who were on duty last

:00:51. > :00:52.Friday and talking to them about their

:00:53. > :00:55.experiences and I can't emphasise how proud I am of some of the

:00:56. > :01:01.individual acts of bravery that took place here to make sure the

:01:02. > :01:04.situation was contained on the wings where it happened.

:01:05. > :01:10.Even so, the bill for the damage is estimated at three

:01:11. > :01:20.The company's also got the worry that inmates may have made copies

:01:21. > :01:22.of keys they got hold of during the trouble and

:01:23. > :01:25.then there's the wider matter of staffing.

:01:26. > :01:27.There was a riot because the prisoners were not

:01:28. > :01:34.There are to officers to four floors.

:01:35. > :01:36.The Government says lack of staffing and the use of illegal

:01:37. > :01:40.drugs are the main factors behind Friday's riot.

:01:41. > :01:47.This has been coming for a least two months. They believe it has been

:01:48. > :02:00.ignored and it has culminated in the riots. People I've talked about

:02:01. > :02:04.staffing levels and in my view, based on 35 years of work in this

:02:05. > :02:05.industry, they were entirely appropriate and entirely safe.

:02:06. > :02:08.The minister says problems at HMP B'ham are replicated in jails

:02:09. > :02:12.The Government is already announced major investment to deal with this.

:02:13. > :02:16.We have plans to strengthen the front line and give staff tools and

:02:17. > :02:21.resources to challenge and support prisoners and turn them around.

:02:22. > :02:26.Turning around this place will not be simple or quick.

:02:27. > :02:29.Violence against both officers and inmates is soaring.

:02:30. > :02:40.in their worst state for over a decade.

:02:41. > :02:43.Five men have been found guilty of sexually exploiting teenage girls

:02:44. > :02:46.The six victims, most of them underage, were promised

:02:47. > :02:49.But instead they were raped, assaulted and trafficked

:02:50. > :02:55.Exploiting vulnerable teenage girls in the most horrific way.

:02:56. > :02:58.Waqaar Khan, Kadeem Bourne and Kenan Kelly

:02:59. > :03:00.have been convicted of multiple rapes.

:03:01. > :03:05.Along with two other men, Marcus Woolcock and Zahid Chaudhary,

:03:06. > :03:10.they trafficked teenagers after initiating contact on Facebook.

:03:11. > :03:13.A relative of one whose identity has been protected, says the men are

:03:14. > :03:17.I think they are absolutely despicable.

:03:18. > :03:20.They are exactly what I say they are.

:03:21. > :03:22.They are out there, prowling through social media,

:03:23. > :03:24.acting on vulnerable girls and abusing the life out of

:03:25. > :03:27.them for their own satisfaction and videoing them for their own

:03:28. > :03:34.The teenagers, most of them underage, were driven to

:03:35. > :03:39.grubby, secluded areas of the city and threatened.

:03:40. > :03:41.One victim was knocked out and woke up to find the

:03:42. > :03:49.men watching a phone video of herself being

:03:50. > :03:56.It was the brazen nature of their offending, that

:03:57. > :03:58.actually they thought they were almost untouchable.

:03:59. > :04:00.They thought these girls wouldn't dare report through

:04:01. > :04:03.fear, so I'd like to thank the girls for their bravery in coming forward

:04:04. > :04:08.Coventry City Council says it has recently put more resources

:04:09. > :04:11.into helping vulnerable and exploited teenagers.

:04:12. > :04:15.It wants parents and the victims to contact

:04:16. > :04:20.the authorities with their concerns and suspicions.

:04:21. > :04:22.The exploitation of children is something

:04:23. > :04:25.that can affect anyone and if there are other children out

:04:26. > :04:27.there who have been affected in a similar way,

:04:28. > :04:30.I would encourage them to speak to trusted adults.

:04:31. > :04:32.Alternatively, they can speak to police or telephone

:04:33. > :04:36.The defendants, who are all unemployed,

:04:37. > :04:44.They will be sentenced on January 20.

:04:45. > :05:01.Officers in the public protection unit noticed that the gang leader,

:05:02. > :05:06.Waqaar Khan was cropping up as a mutual friend of vulnerable young

:05:07. > :05:10.girls on their Facebook sites. At the same time, two girls reported

:05:11. > :05:15.missing in Warwickshire were links to him. He was arrested and an

:05:16. > :05:19.examination of his phone revealed thousands of sexual text messages

:05:20. > :05:24.and several videos of graphic sexual abuse and that enabled police to be

:05:25. > :05:29.that a picture of what had happened. And the police think there may have

:05:30. > :05:34.been more victims? Yes, they are currently sifting through all these

:05:35. > :05:38.text messages and they believe that could lead to clues of the identity

:05:39. > :05:39.of other possible victims. Thank you.

:05:43. > :05:45.as they continue to hunt the killer of Hereford father Christian Bagley.

:05:46. > :05:48.It's 18 months since the 30-year-old was stabbed on a footpath
