:02:14. > :02:20.Amy Cole, BBC West Midlands Today, Wolverhampton.

:02:21. > :02:22.The Independent Police Complaints Commission has also

:02:48. > :03:11.It was due to reopen about ten o'clock tonight but it is still down

:03:12. > :03:16.to one lane. In the last few minutes a whole bunch of repair vehicles

:03:17. > :03:21.have moved into place and they are about to start work on the damaged

:03:22. > :03:26.section. That work will now be taking place overnight as opposed to

:03:27. > :03:31.earlier this evening when it was first planned. Why has it taken so

:03:32. > :03:35.long? Well, this has been

:03:36. > :03:37.a tricky incident for both and the Rescue Services

:03:38. > :03:41.because of course there was a fire to deal with and then

:03:42. > :03:43.there was the issue of these tins of powder, used to make sports

:03:44. > :03:52.drinks, which became overheated to do so even after

:03:53. > :03:57.the fire had been put out. Then the lorry itself had to be

:03:58. > :03:59.removed from the motorway using haulage equipment,

:04:00. > :04:01.another major operation. They've been advised to avoid

:04:02. > :04:32.the area all day but now the road Is not yet opened. Kevan, thank you.

:04:55. > :04:56.In some areas they're called street pastors -

:04:57. > :04:58.in Stoke on Trent, they're the chaplains.

:04:59. > :05:01.Volunteers who patrol the streets at night helping people get home

:05:02. > :05:03.after an evening out, as well as tackling homelessness

:05:04. > :05:06.But now the council has asked the chaplains to go out

:05:07. > :05:09.during the day as well, as part of a plan to

:05:10. > :05:18.The street chaplains of Stoke on Trent have been a regular sight

:05:19. > :05:21.in the city centre offering support to party goers at night but now

:05:22. > :05:24.the chaplains are out and about in the day.

:05:25. > :05:28.The police authorities roundabout have asked us

:05:29. > :05:32.Compliants of aggressive begging and anti-spocial behaviour have

:05:33. > :05:34.prompted the city council to extend the chaplain service

:05:35. > :05:41.I think the issues we face are no different to any other

:05:42. > :05:46.place or city in the country so what we are seeking to do,

:05:47. > :05:49.the greatest asset Stoke-on-Trent have is the

:05:50. > :05:52.people in its borders so we are a community group

:05:53. > :05:55.and we seek to address some of those issues.

:05:56. > :06:05.The chaplains are all volunteers are some people

:06:06. > :06:12.--, they say they are motivated by a desire to help people but some

:06:13. > :06:14.people, said surely the job

:06:15. > :06:15.they With police walking

:06:16. > :06:18.about, people feel Without being disrespectful

:06:19. > :06:22.to the chaplains, they are doing a wonderful job but do

:06:23. > :06:24.they have the authority? The chaplains aren't experts

:06:25. > :06:25.or a replacement for official authorities but try to offer

:06:26. > :06:28.a reassuring prescence, their efforts have been applauded

:06:29. > :06:30.by former football manager Lou Macari who's set up

:06:31. > :06:32.a night shelter in Stoke We just want to do the same thing,

:06:33. > :06:40.help anyone get off the streets, give them a glimmer of hope

:07:10. > :07:13.aid workers who's been inside the besieged

:07:14. > :07:14.city helping refugees. Our Special Correspondent Peter

:07:15. > :07:16.Wilson has been to meet him. Waseem Iqbal used to be a nightclub

:07:17. > :07:20.bouncer now he's an aid worker just Waseem came under attack

:07:21. > :07:27.from the so-called Islamic state. I think to them that people who look

:07:28. > :07:32.like me or do the job that I do are the biggest

:07:33. > :07:34.threat for them. Waseem works for the Human Relief

:07:35. > :07:37.Foundation based in Sparkhill. One of the few British aid workers

:07:38. > :07:41.to get into Mosul, he's been helping desperate civilians as the Iraqi

:07:42. > :07:44.army tries to retake the city What they do now is attach grenades

:07:45. > :07:54.to drones and fly them over. We're on one side of the river

:07:55. > :07:59.and they are on the other. They fly them over

:08:00. > :08:02.and pick a target. In that incident there

:08:03. > :08:04.were three bombs in He shows me a picture

:08:05. > :08:08.of 19-year-old Shahad. Knowing that her life will not be

:08:09. > :08:18.the same, she probably won't ever look the same,

:08:19. > :08:21.she will not see again and whatever other difficulties this

:08:22. > :08:25.will bring her as well. It was such a shame

:08:26. > :08:27.to see how people's What do you think the effect

:08:28. > :08:34.of all this is having on young people growing up in this

:08:35. > :08:37.part of Birmingham? Seriously, I sit with

:08:38. > :08:40.these kids all the time. Extremism is never an issue,

:08:41. > :08:44.they all know that is something they want

:08:45. > :08:49.to stay far away from. Waseem wants to work with young

:08:50. > :08:52.people in Birmingham. But he's determined to go

:08:53. > :08:54.back to Iraq and help Sometimes to save lives

:08:55. > :09:01.you have to risk your own. I knew exactly then what type
