:00:00. > :00:09.Here on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are.

:00:10. > :00:13.There's been a huge surge in the number of electric

:00:14. > :00:15.cars on the road - but trying to charge them here

:00:16. > :00:20.The region has among the smallest number of electric car charging

:00:21. > :00:23.That's despite this region being at the centre

:00:24. > :00:24.for research and development into electric vehicles.

:00:25. > :00:39.Joanna Tidman has been investigating.

:00:40. > :00:43.The future of motoring. It's widely predicted many more of us will be

:00:44. > :00:49.driving electric cars in years to come. But despite being a hub of

:00:50. > :00:55.development it seems the West Midlands has been full to catch up

:00:56. > :00:59.in terms of infrastructure. It is an industry where we can create tens of

:01:00. > :01:01.thousands of jobs in the future but we're not putting the infrastructure

:01:02. > :01:07.in place in the West Midlands to encourage people to drive these

:01:08. > :01:09.cards. Rachel and her husband bought two electric cars in February and

:01:10. > :01:16.she says she has been delighted with she says she has been delighted with

:01:17. > :01:23.them but charging can be a problem. The country needs a step up and to

:01:24. > :01:27.put more charge points in. We have got friends who have said, we have

:01:28. > :01:31.never even thought about buying electric but now they are

:01:32. > :01:36.considering buying electric. The average card is capable of driving

:01:37. > :01:40.100-125 miles before needing charged.

:01:41. > :01:45.It is changing the way we are using our vehicles here and around the

:01:46. > :01:50.world. Instead of popping to the petrol station we will be using

:01:51. > :01:56.these. Plug them in, coffee coffee and away we go. Demand is growing

:01:57. > :02:02.and car dealers of reporting huge upturns in sales of electric cars.

:02:03. > :02:09.Going through the years momentum has gained and in the last quarter of

:02:10. > :02:14.January- March this year, they sold more than they have in any quarter

:02:15. > :02:17.since the car's lunch. With sales booming, the irony is this lack of

:02:18. > :02:22.charging points could put people off charging points could put people off

:02:23. > :02:27.buying the very vehicles region has played a large part in developing.

:02:28. > :02:36.The Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn, has been campaigning

:02:37. > :02:38.Reducing homelessness and tackling congestion on our roads -

:02:39. > :02:41.two of the priorities set out by the new West Midlands

:02:42. > :02:45.Our reporter Ben Godfrey joined him - on his first day in office.

:02:46. > :02:47.A warning his report contains some flash photography.

:02:48. > :02:50.Here's the man voters have chosen to grow the West Midlands economy.

:02:51. > :03:01.I have always been Andy, so why change?

:03:02. > :03:08.Do you know what you have let yourself in for?

:03:09. > :03:15.How are you going to get things done in those areas? I thought the most

:03:16. > :03:18.set the tone and that is about being set the tone and that is about being

:03:19. > :03:27.the leader for all the West Midlands. Tackling congestion is

:03:28. > :03:32.high on the list. Labour were pushing for the nationalisation of

:03:33. > :03:36.the M6 Toll. Would you now be looking at doing that? We have said

:03:37. > :03:41.that certain aspects of how the M6 Toll operates that we want to go

:03:42. > :03:44.back to. Not a closed mind and we definitely want to work with them

:03:45. > :03:53.but not on the whole idea of nationalisation. This was another of

:03:54. > :03:58.his top priorities, setting up a task force to bring down the number

:03:59. > :04:02.of rough sleepers. Last autumn, there were almost 300 people across

:04:03. > :04:06.the West Midlands sleeping rough on our streets. It is most urgent and

:04:07. > :04:11.Birmingham where the numbers went up by 50% in just one year. It is the

:04:12. > :04:17.tip of a much bigger iceberg, and I would like to see they may support

:04:18. > :04:23.all the other work going on. Just a few hours in his company and you get

:04:24. > :04:27.the feeling and the street has the ambition and drive to fulfil his

:04:28. > :04:29.election promises. Some say he will need it in abundance now his

:04:30. > :04:31.business is politics. The Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn,

:04:32. > :04:33.has been campaigning in the Midlands today -

:04:34. > :04:35.setting out his plans In Leamington Spa,

:04:36. > :04:39.he told a crowd that one of his first priorities,

:04:40. > :04:41.if he gets into Downing Street, would be to start a programme

:04:42. > :04:43.of housebuilding - He said Labour wanted an economy

:04:44. > :04:49.and society that works for all. We need a serious national

:04:50. > :04:52.initiative to deal with the housing crisis by building for those that

:04:53. > :04:54.need homes, rather than building for speculative investment to keep

:04:55. > :04:59.them empty to make more money out And there's more information

:05:00. > :05:07.about the general election - and who's standing -

:05:08. > :05:12.on the BBC politics pages. A man has appeared in court,

:05:13. > :05:15.charged with preventing the lawful Megan Bills from Stourbridge,

:05:16. > :05:19.was found in a wardrobe, which had been wrapped in cling film

:05:20. > :05:22.- in Brierley Hill last Thursday. 24-year-old Ashley Foster

:05:23. > :05:24.was remanded in custody, to appear at Wolverhampton crown

:05:25. > :05:29.court next month. A man has been arrested

:05:30. > :05:31.in Birmingham, on suspicion The 23-year-old man was taken

:05:32. > :05:38.into police custody from a house The arrest follows a stabbing

:05:39. > :05:42.in Perry Barr in the early Another man remains in a serious,

:05:43. > :05:45.but stable, condition in hospital - Two men posing as police officers

:05:46. > :05:54.have been trying to lure members of the public into a stolen unmarked

:05:55. > :05:56.police car, with blue West Midlands Police have issued

:05:57. > :06:00.a warning after a female motorist was flagged down -

:06:01. > :06:03.and asked to get into their silver The care was later found to have

:06:04. > :06:11.been stolen in Solihull. The captain of England's

:06:12. > :06:13.women's cricket team has been in Warwickshire,

:06:14. > :06:15.to inspire young playing Heather Knight is due to lead

:06:16. > :06:19.England in the World Cup at home this summer,

:06:20. > :06:21.but is recovering from She believes the women's game has

:06:22. > :06:34.a higher profile than ever. That is nothing better than a home

:06:35. > :06:37.World Cup. Hopefully I'll be fit

:06:38. > :06:40.and ready to lead the team The most publicised women's

:06:41. > :06:44.World Cup ever, and we have got some Hopefully I will be out

:06:45. > :06:49.there and ready to go. More than 500 Roman coins unearthed

:06:50. > :06:52.by two metal detector enthusiasts, have gone on display close

:06:53. > :06:54.to where they were found - The coins were declared treasure -

:06:55. > :07:00.and have now returned from being on show at the British

:07:01. > :07:02.Museum. This is the hoard of 518 Roman

:07:03. > :07:08.coins hidden in a field When you look at the

:07:09. > :07:15.quality of these coins, That was until two off-duty

:07:16. > :07:21.paramedics and metal They'd been deposited

:07:22. > :07:29.in a leather satchel. Inside the satchel,

:07:30. > :07:33.there were several hessian bags, and those bags, we found,

:07:34. > :07:35.were stuffed with leaves. They were hidden under two very

:07:36. > :07:39.large stones to keep it well hidden. It's the sort of thing

:07:40. > :07:44.you always dream of, and when you finally find it,

:07:45. > :07:47.you almost can't Once we found it, we

:07:48. > :07:50.realised what it was. We immediately knew it was a very

:07:51. > :07:52.important historical artefact that The hoard's worth a few hundred

:07:53. > :07:56.pounds, and was declared treasure. It's now on display close

:07:57. > :07:59.to where it was found at tourist attraction Stockton Gardens

:08:00. > :08:01.at Kimbolton near Leominster. The coins date back to around 270

:08:02. > :08:09.AD, a time of war, of chaos. When you get instability,

:08:10. > :08:11.people will sort of go and put their horde or their coins

:08:12. > :08:14.and bury them, to come Because I think you wouldn't

:08:15. > :08:18.be able to trust... You wouldn't know what was going

:08:19. > :08:21.to happen the next day. The coins were found in this field,

:08:22. > :08:30.land owned by the aptly-named Raymond Treasure, and he had

:08:31. > :08:33.to invent a white lie to keep people We parked a tractor over the top

:08:34. > :08:39.of the site and told everybody that there was an unexploded bomb

:08:40. > :08:42.to keep people away! Since the coins were discovered four

:08:43. > :08:50.years ago, every bit of this field has been searched,

:08:51. > :08:52.and nothing else has been found. Only the earth knows the secret

:08:53. > :08:55.of who buried the treasure here, close to where there was once

:08:56. > :09:08.a Roman road. That's all from me, I'll leave

:09:09. > :09:23.you with the weather forecast Good evening. Off the back of a

:09:24. > :09:31.stunning day yesterday when the temperature reached a high of 23, a

:09:32. > :09:36.tad cooler today and still very dry. It is quite cloudy to begin with

:09:37. > :09:43.this morning but the sunshine didn't begin to break through until later.

:09:44. > :09:48.This is an ongoing theme through this week, continuing on from where

:09:49. > :09:52.we left off last week. Initially dry, warming up from midweek and

:09:53. > :09:58.then we start to see things becoming wetter for Thursday and Friday, with

:09:59. > :10:02.rain spreading up from the south. Try out there apart from the odds

:10:03. > :10:06.that of rain, cloud beginning up from the east and as it stretches to

:10:07. > :10:13.the west, the temperature will fall to around five Celsius, western

:10:14. > :10:17.parts coolest. It cloudy morning and the cloud may struggle to break in

:10:18. > :10:24.places, but it will eventually do so and we see the highest temperature

:10:25. > :10:27.reaching 14. Light winds from the north-easterly direction. Tomorrow

:10:28. > :10:32.night we see the cloud shrinking back to the East, clear skies and

:10:33. > :10:37.with that we set up nicely from plenty of sunshine on Wednesday,

:10:38. > :10:46.cooler as well particularly in rural spots. The temperature responding

:10:47. > :10:49.nicely to the sunshine and highs of 16-17 and the winds are liked as

:10:50. > :10:55.well. The south-easterly will draw up my elderly as we walk into next

:10:56. > :10:59.week. Thursday we see low-pressure moving up from the south bringing

:11:00. > :11:03.rain by Friday but thirsty itself looking dry, Friday we start to see

:11:04. > :11:06.the rain. with some sunshine and showers, it

:11:07. > :11:09.will become drier and feel warm. Now the National forecast.

:11:10. > :11:18.Good evening. A quiet day on the weather front but we still managed

:11:19. > :11:23.to have some huge contrasts in the weather. This was a beautiful

:11:24. > :11:30.picture from Cumbria, blue skies and crystal clear blue skies in Argyll

:11:31. > :11:34.and Bute but closer to the north coast, it sends shivers down your

:11:35. > :11:40.spine! Chilly and cloudy all along that cost this bank of cloud that

:11:41. > :11:42.sliced the country in half, cool and cloudy to the east and to the West

:11:43. > :11:43.had
