:00:19. > :00:22.He's dealt with the fallout from the so-called Trojan Horse

:00:23. > :00:24.affair and faced pressure from Government to improve services

:00:25. > :00:32.There are fears that public parks in the West Midlands are set to slip

:00:33. > :00:34.into years of decline as a result of budget cuts.

:00:35. > :00:37.Many local authorities are looking to slash spending on green spaces

:00:38. > :00:39.as they struggle to balance their books.

:00:40. > :00:46.Birmingham's got 591 parks and it's proud of them.

:00:47. > :00:49.In some, volunteers to do the things you might expect

:00:50. > :00:53.the council or even the Environment Agency to do.

:00:54. > :00:56.But times are tough and look like getting tougher.

:00:57. > :00:58.We rely on park staff, park keepers and rangers

:00:59. > :01:02.to support us and if those jobs are going, it's going to get harder

:01:03. > :01:05.for us as an established group to do work

:01:06. > :01:08.but more importantly, it's going to be much harder

:01:09. > :01:09.for new friends groups just getting started.

:01:10. > :01:12.The council won't say whether jobs will go,

:01:13. > :01:15.but they are planning cuts of 1.2 million from the parks budget,

:01:16. > :01:19.cuts forced on them, they say, by central Government.

:01:20. > :01:22.None of us like the decisions we're making, but the fact

:01:23. > :01:25.that we have not had a fair settlement in the city

:01:26. > :01:32.Across the West Midlands, recent surveys show 70% of

:01:33. > :01:35.local authorities are looking at transferring

:01:36. > :01:40.Less than half our park managers feel their parks

:01:41. > :01:46.And the percentage of parks in decline looks set to

:01:47. > :01:49.more than double over the next three years.

:01:50. > :01:53.Fran started a friends group six months ago to reclaim her

:01:54. > :01:56.local park and it's a work still in progress

:01:57. > :02:04.The rangers do provide valuable help, advice and can do a lot more,

:02:05. > :02:09.so without the rangers, it would be very, very hard to keep going.

:02:10. > :02:12.Visitors are surprised how green the city is.

:02:13. > :02:15.The challenge now, keeping it pleasant for people

:02:16. > :02:22.A man from Wednesbury has defied death not once,

:02:23. > :02:28.Father of three, Ray Woodhall, had a heart attack whilst playing

:02:29. > :02:33.He was rushed to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital where doctors

:02:34. > :02:36.revived him, but his heart stopped working a further 26 times

:02:37. > :02:46.Given what happened to Ray Woodall, his recovery feels like a miracle.

:02:47. > :02:48.I think I should be getting a little breathless at times,

:02:49. > :02:53.but I've never experienced that.

:02:54. > :02:56.Ray's heart stopped beating not once but on 26

:02:57. > :02:57.separate occasions after having a heart attack

:02:58. > :03:02.One moment, Ray felt a pain in his chest.

:03:03. > :03:05.The next thing he knew, he was in accident and emergency

:03:06. > :03:06.at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

:03:07. > :03:08.The amazing thing was I always thought

:03:09. > :03:11.So when I woke up and there were people around me

:03:12. > :03:14.I was going, I've just been asleep here, it's OK.

:03:15. > :03:19.Doctor Goyal saves lives most days, but rarely does he save

:03:20. > :03:23.one man's life 27 times in a single shift.

:03:24. > :03:26.I think when people have multiple cardiac arrests, there is a

:03:27. > :03:29.very high chance that one of them could be the last one and we

:03:30. > :03:33.may not be able to bring them back, so we have to use different

:03:34. > :03:36.treatment regimes to try and help people in this sort of situation

:03:37. > :03:41.to try and maximise their chance of survival.

:03:42. > :03:44.Every time Ray stopped breathing, the team of doctors and nurses

:03:45. > :03:46.got his heart are going again.

:03:47. > :03:49.Now, thanks to a couple of stents in his heart, he's strong enough

:03:50. > :03:57.It's just a minute spot on my wrist, that's all I've got to show

:03:58. > :04:00.for all the trauma that I went through

:04:01. > :04:04.Ray feels indebted to the medics received his life but they

:04:05. > :04:15.He should be back playing walking football within a couple of months.

:04:16. > :04:18.The future of Peugeot's headquarters in Coventry is at risk according

:04:19. > :04:20.to a motor industry expert in the region.

:04:21. > :04:22.The warning comes as the Prime Minister Theresa May

:04:23. > :04:25.has agreed to meet the boss of the French car group

:04:26. > :04:30.to discuss its proposed takeover of Vauxhall in the UK.

:04:31. > :04:32.There are concerns within the industry that any takeover may

:04:33. > :04:38.have an impact on thousands of jobs, many of them in the Midlands.

:04:44. > :04:47.There are hundreds of people employed at the Peugeot

:04:48. > :04:51.I think the question then is will it be that operation
