:00:31. > :00:32.But the force has defended its tactics, saying the trouble

:00:41. > :00:42.police officers are raining down on football fans in a walk

:00:43. > :00:47.The clashes were filmed by this retired police chief inspector,

:00:48. > :00:50.someone who used to train the police in the use of force.

:00:51. > :01:05.He says West Midlands police overreacted.

:01:09. > :01:11.The threat level that you would need to justify

:01:17. > :01:19.head with a baton is a very high threat level.

:01:20. > :01:21.My perception is that threat level was not there.

:01:22. > :01:24.He says the fans there were largely Blues supporters in good spirits,

:01:25. > :01:35.But the police say the trouble was between rival fans.

:01:36. > :01:37.West Midlands Police have described the flashpoint

:02:30. > :02:31.But since falling down the stairs last September,

:02:32. > :02:33.she suffered critical brain injuries and is now learning

:02:34. > :02:43.It is horrendous that falling down the stairs at home

:02:44. > :02:48.could cause such life-changing injuries.

:02:49. > :02:51.The campaign is called Thinking Of Mel and today more than

:02:52. > :03:05.I cannot believe the amount of people that have turned up.

:03:06. > :03:08.It is very tragic what has happened to Mel.

:03:09. > :03:11.There is a lot of feeling she was a very good

:03:12. > :03:13.The number of people who are here today

:03:14. > :03:17.When Mel returns home from hospital she'll need adaptations to her home

:03:18. > :03:24.and it's not yet known how much they'll cost,

:03:25. > :03:26.but the campaign is trying to raise at least ?10,000.

:03:27. > :03:29.It could be a long and difficult road to recovery but friends say

:03:30. > :03:43.all the support will really help to boost Mel's spirits.

:03:44. > :03:46.The Coventry Bees have been thrown out of the speedway's Elite League
