:04:38. > :04:47.too early to comment. We heard from the chief executive of the trust,

:04:47. > :04:52.but it was done before the announcement today. Yes. They say

:04:52. > :04:59.they are not aware of any further investigation into the tragic death

:04:59. > :05:01.of Joshua Titcombe. They say they will co-operate with the police if

:05:04. > :05:06.have been jailed for plotting the deaths of British soldiers in

:05:06. > :05:11.Afghanistan. Munir Farooqi, a former Taliban fighter, was given

:05:11. > :05:13.four life sentences. Manchester Crown Court heard he had been the

:05:13. > :05:23.ringleader of the group, recruiting and brainwashing vulnerable young

:05:23. > :05:25.

:05:25. > :05:32.men to try to turn them into terrorists.

:05:32. > :05:39.Munir Farooqi was well known at Longsight market. At another store

:05:39. > :05:45.in Manchester he was helped by Matthew Newton. Munir Farooqi

:05:45. > :05:55.fought for the Taliban and was captured in 2001. They were using

:06:42. > :06:52.grave threat to the young people in the UK, and perhaps a graver threat

:06:52. > :06:56.

:06:56. > :07:06.to our troops in theatre. Today, both men were jailed, as was Israr

:07:15. > :07:18.Manchester City's chief executive has resigned after sending an email

:07:19. > :07:21.that appeared to mock the illness of a player's mother. The club's

:07:22. > :07:24.been investigating the message sent by Garry Cook to Dr Anthonia Onouha,

:07:25. > :07:31.mother and agent of Nedum Onouha. Tonight he admitted what he called

:07:31. > :07:41.an error of judgement. Stuart Flinders is at City's Etihad

:07:41. > :07:42.

:07:42. > :07:47.Stadium. Did he jump or was he pushed?

:07:47. > :07:52.Well, he clearly was hoping not to have to jump because when the

:07:52. > :07:55.affair came to light, he said it was nothing to do with him. But the

:07:55. > :08:02.club has carried out an investigation and he now admits to

:08:02. > :08:06.what he calls an error of judgment. I did mention that it appeared to

:08:06. > :08:16.mark the illness of a player's mother. Tell us a bit more about

:08:16. > :08:26.the e-mail. Yes. Doctor on newer is the mother

:08:26. > :08:31.

:08:31. > :08:39.of Nedum Onouha. -- doctor on newer. She received an e-mail that

:08:39. > :08:45.contained a jokey reference to her suffering from cancer. She

:08:56. > :09:02.

:09:02. > :09:09.With all the signings at Manchester City and their chances of winning

:09:09. > :09:19.the Premiership, he has had to go. He has been at the club for three

:09:19. > :09:24.

:09:24. > :09:30.momentous years. He oversaw the sale, making them the richest club

:09:30. > :09:33.in the world. Manchester City are sad to see him go.

:09:33. > :09:35.The Nursing and Midwifery Council will hold a hearing on Wednesday to

:09:35. > :09:37.review Rebecca Leighton's suspension - the nurse who was

:09:37. > :09:40.arrested during the investigation into contaminated saline at

:09:40. > :09:42.Stepping Hill Hospital. Last week the Crown Prosecution Service

:09:42. > :09:48.announced they were dropping all charges against Miss Leighton, who

:09:48. > :09:50.was released from custody. Police say a man's received the

:09:50. > :09:56.largest custodial sentence yet after taking part in last month's

:09:56. > :09:58.Manchester riots. 18-year-old Thomas Lamb of no fixed address

:09:58. > :10:01.pleaded guilty to breaking into the Spar shop in Piccadilly, stealing

:10:01. > :10:07.cigarettes and alcohol. He also broke into Ladbrokes, but didn't

:10:07. > :10:10.manage to steal anything. He was sentenced to more than four years

:10:11. > :10:14.at Manchester Crown Court today. Controversial plans for a bio mass

:10:14. > :10:17.incinerator on the banks of the Mersey have been given the go-ahead.

:10:17. > :10:22.Peel Energy's plant on Ince Marshes will be fuelled by almost 200,000

:10:22. > :10:25.tonnes of waste wood a year. Cheshire West and Chester council

:10:25. > :10:31.says it had no option but to approve the development, despite

:10:31. > :10:35.some opposition from residents in Helsby and Frodsham.

:10:35. > :10:38.My role model, my inspiration, my world. A tribute from the sister of

:10:38. > :10:43.the Wirral teenager Hayley Holmes whose funeral was held this

:10:43. > :10:47.afternoon. Hayley's younger sister Keely read out the tribute at a

:10:47. > :10:54.service attended by her family and hundreds of Hayley's friends.

:10:54. > :10:57.Hayley drowned off the Wirral coast last month. Shoes belonging to her

:10:57. > :11:04.and her boyfriend Robbie Crofts were found on the shore. He's still

:11:04. > :11:09.missing. The coffin of Wight. The mourners

:11:09. > :11:19.in bright colours at the family's request. This was to be a

:11:19. > :11:21.

:11:21. > :11:29.celebration of Hayley Holmes's brief life. Her younger sister read

:11:29. > :11:37.a personal tribute. I give mum and dad and extra case to make up for

:11:37. > :11:46.you not been there. You were my role model. I always looked up to

:11:46. > :11:56.you. You are my precious big sister and I will always love you. Hayley

:11:56. > :11:57.

:11:57. > :12:07.was 17. She drowned off the Wirral coast. Her boyfriend is still

:12:07. > :12:11.

:12:11. > :12:17.missing. Many of her friends were at the funeral. I expected the

:12:17. > :12:23.girls to be very tearful. They have overwhelmed me with how mature and

:12:23. > :12:31.dignified they have been and how keen they are to support Hayley's

:12:31. > :12:34.family. Her family say she was one in a million and their allies will

:12:34. > :12:44.never be the same again. Still to come in North West

:12:44. > :12:44.

:12:44. > :12:54.Tonight: find out how the supporters are faring later on. And

:12:54. > :12:56.Ireland invasion - a Manx welcome for the elite Commonwealth athletes.

:12:56. > :13:00.In her early forties, Carol Williams was active and healthy,

:13:00. > :13:04.although she did have mild asthma and was prone to chest infections.

:13:04. > :13:09.But when she was told to have the flu vaccine last winter, she turned

:13:09. > :13:13.it down. She didn't think she really needed it. By the New Year,

:13:13. > :13:16.Carol was seriously ill in hospital with swine flu. She almost died and

:13:16. > :13:20.spent weeks in intensive care. Now Carol is encouraging everyone

:13:20. > :13:26.offered the flu jab to make sure they have it. We'll hear from her

:13:26. > :13:33.in a moment, but first here's our health correspondent Laura Yates.

:13:33. > :13:39.It is that time of year regain. The flu season is almost upon us. Last

:13:39. > :13:44.winter almost 1,300 people were admitted to hospital with the flu.

:13:44. > :13:54.In one week 300 people were taking into critical care. This region was

:13:54. > :14:01.the hardest hit in the country and that his wife the NHS is

:14:01. > :14:06.encouraging people eligible for the flu vaccination to take it. I am

:14:06. > :14:13.going to visit a woman who didn't take it last year and nearly died.

:14:13. > :14:23.This was Carol Williams on Boxing Day last year. She had mild asthma

:14:23. > :14:29.and turned down the fleet jab. She did not think she needed it.

:14:29. > :14:35.just got more difficult to believe. In the end I was bent over. I

:14:35. > :14:45.couldn't do it any more. It was too painful to breed. My daughter and

:14:45. > :14:46.

:14:46. > :14:52.husband were there. I said, at sea in a couple of days. In fact, Carol

:14:52. > :14:57.was kept on a ventilator box six weeks, sedated and paralysed. She

:14:57. > :15:03.nearly died. Her family were told she was unlikely to live through

:15:03. > :15:09.the night on several occasions. How did you feel knowing you were so

:15:09. > :15:13.close to death? It was very scary. In late February when I was more

:15:13. > :15:23.lucid, I couldn't believe it. I can believe what had happened and all

:15:23. > :15:23.

:15:23. > :15:28.the procedures. I couldn't believe it. My family had to go through

:15:29. > :15:33.that just because I did not have the flu jab. Carol's lungs are

:15:33. > :15:38.badly scarred and simple tasks like this are a struggle for her. It

:15:38. > :15:42.could take a couple of years for her to look fully recover. If you

:15:42. > :15:52.are eligible for a vaccine you can expect to be contacted by your GP

:15:52. > :16:05.

:16:05. > :16:09.in the next few weeks. Just a Lots more information on the NHS

:16:09. > :16:11.website. Well, it's time for sport now and

:16:11. > :16:15.it could be a big night out in Warrington tonight, Tony

:16:15. > :16:23.Yes, it promises to be a night to remember if the Wolves do the

:16:23. > :16:25.business away to Hull. A point at the KC Stadium should be enough for

:16:25. > :16:28.them to seal the Super League leaders Shield, their first title

:16:28. > :16:32.in half a century Quite an achievement, but that

:16:32. > :16:35.won't be a case of job done for them, will it?

:16:35. > :16:38.No, it will mean that they have finished the regular season top of

:16:38. > :16:41.the table, but then they have to negotiate the play-offs if they are

:16:41. > :16:51.to make the season's showpiece the Grand Final. Confidence is high

:16:51. > :16:52.

:16:52. > :17:00.though, with a lot of praise for coach Tony Smith. The transition

:17:00. > :17:08.from when he turned up to the way things are now, top of the table

:17:08. > :17:11.will be great. There is coverage of that game tonight on BBC Radio

:17:11. > :17:13.Manchester. If you are a Lancashire fan who can

:17:13. > :17:16.remember winning the County Championship then you will be of a

:17:16. > :17:19.certain vintage. This season they've got a great chance of

:17:19. > :17:22.ending one of North West sport's longest hoodoos - one lasting three

:17:22. > :17:31.quarters of a century. Lancs are taking on Hampshire in their final

:17:31. > :17:35.home game of the season from where Stuart Pollitt reports.

:17:35. > :17:39.The red rose of Lancashire has occupied top place eight times.

:17:39. > :17:48.These were the last month to deliver at the championship to

:17:48. > :17:58.Lancashire, in an era when county cricket was a bigger share in town

:17:58. > :17:59.

:17:59. > :18:08.-- was the biggest show in town. Lancashire's loyal supporters are

:18:08. > :18:15.hoping that the prize will come back to them. It has been a long

:18:15. > :18:20.time. Kenny believe it has been 77 years since they last won it?

:18:20. > :18:23.don't believe that. Hopefully they can beat Hampshire and put

:18:23. > :18:30.themselves in a great position, going into the final round of

:18:30. > :18:34.matches next week. It makes it more exciting. It is a long time since

:18:34. > :18:41.Lancashire won it out right. If it does not work, it will not be

:18:41. > :18:51.through lack of trying. Are they finally going to do it this year?

:18:51. > :18:52.

:18:52. > :18:56.No! At think it might be a draw. That will be a shame. -- I think.

:18:56. > :19:01.With a few more wickets and some luck, this could finally be

:19:01. > :19:04.Lancashire's year. Well, Lancashire have pushed on in

:19:04. > :19:07.their second innings, setting up an interesting final day at Liverpool.

:19:07. > :19:10.They will resume on 195 for 2 in their second innings. Their overall

:19:10. > :19:12.lead is 202. Coverage throughout the day on your local BBC radio

:19:12. > :19:16.station. Now it's the smallest nation ever

:19:16. > :19:20.to be host the Commonwealth Youth Games, so the Isle of Man has gone

:19:20. > :19:23.all out, to make a big deal of the event. Athletes from over 60

:19:23. > :19:28.nations are on the island to compete in seven different sports

:19:28. > :19:31.over the coming weekend and Sarah Mulkerrins is there.

:19:31. > :19:35.Long haul flights, choppy ferry crossing, noisy coach trips and jet

:19:35. > :19:38.lag. Despite all this the 1,300 athletes and officials from all

:19:38. > :19:43.over the Commonwealth were in good spirits arriving on the Isle of Man

:19:43. > :19:47.this week. The Games kicked off with a bang last night with over

:19:47. > :19:57.200 performers taking part in the opening ceremony. Behind the scenes

:19:57. > :20:03.the excitement was mounting as all the different teams lined up.

:20:03. > :20:08.feels great. I am really honoured. It is a 36 Howard Flight. To see

:20:08. > :20:18.the track is great. Are you looking for a gold-medal? By we always try

:20:18. > :20:18.

:20:18. > :20:22.to do the best. I hope Jamaica will be in the top three. I want to be a

:20:22. > :20:30.great athlete. On hand for added inspiration this weekend is Dame

:20:30. > :20:34.Kelly Holmes, who knows a thing or two about winning. When I was 16 I

:20:34. > :20:40.went to the mini Youth Olympics. I remember marching round and winning

:20:40. > :20:46.my race. I remember standing on the rostrum with the national anthem

:20:46. > :20:49.playing and I thought, one day this will be will. The celebrations

:20:49. > :20:53.ended last night, but competition is away in earnest this morning.

:20:53. > :21:03.Athletes from over 60 countries are all here hoping to make a dent this

:21:03. > :21:12.

:21:12. > :21:16.weekend on the commonwealth youth You can keep up-to-date with all

:21:16. > :21:19.the sport by That's it for now, but don't go

:21:19. > :21:22.away. I'll be back later with a sad farewell to a north west sporting

:21:22. > :21:25.stalwart. And with the Isle of Man General

:21:25. > :21:28.Elections less than three weeks away, this Sunday you can see a

:21:28. > :21:32.special edition of the Politics show with Annabel Tiffen and Arif

:21:32. > :21:35.Ansari. They will look at the big issues, including the change in VAT

:21:35. > :21:38.on the island and the high house prices. The programme comes from

:21:38. > :21:48.Tynwald, the islands Parliament, and it's on this Sunday evening

:21:48. > :21:55.

:21:55. > :22:01.10.25 on BBC One. And now for the weather.

:22:02. > :22:08.It's an next forecast for the next couple of days. Very unsettled, but

:22:08. > :22:18.there is room for some sunshine. Saturday will start wet, but it

:22:18. > :22:19.

:22:19. > :22:24.will clear. Today, it hasn't been too bad. Temperatures at 21 Celsius.

:22:24. > :22:34.What we are looking out for now of the shower was. They have started

:22:34. > :22:47.

:22:47. > :22:53.to during the last couple of hours. Part of Merseyside and Cheshire

:22:53. > :22:58.might not see too many of them, but they will be around. An overcast

:22:58. > :23:03.and damp night. It is very mild as well. Temperatures Genevieve 15

:23:03. > :23:13.degrees, but they could go as high as 18. Some days this week we have

:23:13. > :23:18.

:23:19. > :23:28.not made 18 degrees. Tomorrow, the rain will try to clear and the

:23:29. > :23:30.

:23:30. > :23:36.picture starts to look better after lunchtime. There will be some

:23:36. > :23:44.sunshine and patchy cloud. The breeze comes from the south-west,

:23:44. > :23:54.dragging in that mild air. Temperatures as high as 23 degrees.

:23:54. > :23:54.

:23:54. > :24:03.Saturday evening, the showers will pile on. Sunday, very unsettled.

:24:03. > :24:13.The Met Office are warning that the remnants of a Hurricane Run will be

:24:13. > :24:17.

:24:17. > :24:25.hitting a were -- of a Hurricane Wilma be hitting our shores. --

:24:25. > :24:28.Hurricane Ida will be. Now, it's almost the end of the

:24:28. > :24:31.programme and almost the end of an era. On Sunday, Super League's

:24:31. > :24:34.Salford City Reds play their last home game at a ground they've

:24:34. > :24:37.graced for 110 years. The Reds move to a state-of-the-art stadium next

:24:37. > :24:40.season, but against Catalan Dragons their average crowd of 4,500 will

:24:41. > :24:44.swell to a capacity 11,500 as they say goodbye. For one man, it might

:24:44. > :24:53.be too much to bear. Every brick, every blade of grass will soon be a

:24:53. > :25:03.memory, no more so full -- than for the chairman. For the last time he

:25:03. > :25:05.

:25:05. > :25:11.is showing us be five wonders of the Willows. When I was a boy, I

:25:11. > :25:19.sat in this seat next to my father. I always sit on the front row at

:25:19. > :25:24.eye-level. I have sat there for many years. When the game has
