:00:13. > :00:23.Good evening. Rebecca Leighton, the nurse accused

:00:23. > :00:24.

:00:24. > :00:34.them clear of the saline murders has been sacked.

:00:34. > :00:39.

:00:39. > :00:49.And the murder on Merseyside. dad is not talking to me. What has

:00:49. > :01:04.

:01:04. > :01:13.The nurse suspended after being accused of contaminating saline has

:01:13. > :01:18.today been sacked. She was clear of the murder charges

:01:18. > :01:27.but remained suspended. Our correspondent is that the hospital

:01:27. > :01:32.now. It was always going to be difficult

:01:32. > :01:40.for Rebecca Leyton to return to work given all what has happened.

:01:40. > :01:44.We know she wanted to. She had worked there for some time. She was

:01:44. > :01:48.charged in July. She spent six weeks in prison before all charges

:01:48. > :01:58.were dropped. There still remain the allegation that she had stolen

:01:58. > :02:02.

:02:02. > :02:12.trucks. -- tribes. The hospital wanted to carry out

:02:12. > :02:16.its own investigation. They have concluded that they will sack her.

:02:16. > :02:21.The police have released an update on what has been happening at

:02:21. > :02:30.Stepping Hill hospital. That is right. The state there were

:02:30. > :02:37.19 patience contaminated with poisoned saline. Of those three of

:02:37. > :02:42.them died. Six months on police say they cannot prove a link between

:02:42. > :02:46.their deaths and the contaminated saline although they say tests are

:02:46. > :02:54.still ongoing. Now they say they are in the second phase of their

:02:54. > :02:56.investigation. The say they remain determined to find out who is

:02:57. > :03:02.behind the poisoning of the patients here at Stepping Hill

:03:02. > :03:06.hospital. That aura of a Merseyside newsagent

:03:06. > :03:13.where a shop worker was killed says he cannot understand why anyone

:03:13. > :03:18.would want to harm the man. The man was stabbed in the neck on Tuesday.

:03:18. > :03:21.He was working in the UK to support a wife and children back home. His

:03:21. > :03:25.employer says he finds it impossible to break the news to his

:03:25. > :03:31.son. Three days after the murder

:03:31. > :03:39.forensic investigators are still at the scene. On Tuesday night a

:03:39. > :03:43.stocky man and a dark tracksuit came in and attacked their victim.

:03:43. > :03:49.Police have yet to release the name of the victim. He was working in

:03:49. > :03:59.the UK to support his family back in Sri Lanka. On Sunday he sent

:03:59. > :03:59.

:03:59. > :04:08.home 1,000. His eldest son spoke to me. He

:04:08. > :04:18.wanted to know why his father was not talking to him. My dad promised

:04:18. > :04:24.

:04:24. > :04:30.to send the Tories, he said. I told him that he is sick. -- send toys.

:04:30. > :04:38.Earlier Dr Welhengama told me how hard the victor had worked. He was

:04:38. > :04:41.charming and innocent. He was courteous and polite. Police say

:04:42. > :04:45.they're keeping an open mind about whether this was a racially

:04:45. > :04:49.motivated killing, but nothing was taken in the incident and they

:04:49. > :04:52.understand that the CCTV images show the assailant in the nuclear

:04:52. > :04:57.costing his victim and pitching against the counter and stabbing

:04:57. > :05:03.him once before leaving. Police have released an image of a

:05:03. > :05:10.Ford Transit van seen near the shop. The driver of a dark Vauxhall Astra

:05:10. > :05:18.has now come forward and provided detectives with information.

:05:18. > :05:20.Deeply distressing to see that. Elsewhere in the news today - A

:05:20. > :05:23.bridegroom has admitted setting fire to his wedding venue. The

:05:23. > :05:26.blaze at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire caused millions of pounds

:05:26. > :05:28.worth of damage in June. Today at Chester Crown Court Max Kay from

:05:28. > :05:32.Liverpool pleaded guilty to arson and recklessly endangering life.

:05:32. > :05:35.He'll be sentenced in February. Retailers in Preston saw an

:05:35. > :05:45.estimated 500,000 increase in sales thanks to Wednesday's strikes.

:05:45. > :05:45.

:05:45. > :05:49.rally and thousands more took the day off in protest. Nearly 20,000

:05:49. > :05:53.extra people visited The St George's Centre. And shoppers were

:05:53. > :05:56.up by a third in the rest of the city centre.

:05:56. > :05:59.Anti-social behaviour can make people's lives a misery. Dealing

:05:59. > :06:03.with it was a top priority for the Blair government. Anti-social

:06:03. > :06:06.behaviour orders - or ASBOs - were thought to be the solution. But

:06:06. > :06:08.critics said they were too harsh and failed to tackle the long term

:06:08. > :06:11.problems. But in an exclusive interview for

:06:11. > :06:14.the North West Politics Show the former Home Secretary and MP for

:06:14. > :06:24.Blackburn, Jack Straw, has criticised the fall in the number

:06:24. > :06:25.

:06:25. > :06:28.of ASBOs being imposed. Here's our political editor Arif Ansari.

:06:28. > :06:35.Crocks of - a part of Liverpool with an ongoing battle against

:06:35. > :06:41.crime and anti-social behaviour. This man looked there after

:06:41. > :06:46.returning from working abroad. He was subjected to intimidation.

:06:46. > :06:54.There was no quality of life. You do not know what the next attack is

:06:54. > :06:57.coming from. I became suicidal. is not just this man has a problems.

:06:57. > :07:02.This house is up for sale because the people who owned it could not

:07:02. > :07:06.take anti-social behaviour any more and mood doubt. Liverpool city

:07:06. > :07:14.council insists it is getting on top of the problem.

:07:14. > :07:19.When new legislation comes and people are enthusiastic about it.

:07:19. > :07:24.Others are sceptical. Former Labour Home Secretary Jack Straw and MP

:07:24. > :07:34.for Blackburn, it says the current Home Secretary is wrong to review

:07:34. > :07:44.the current system. If the powers are taken away residence will break

:07:44. > :07:44.

:07:44. > :07:49.up the wall with the police and the local authority. The so-called

:07:49. > :07:56.party of law and order has taken away the powers. Jack Straw's

:07:56. > :08:06.concern fewer ASBOs have been handed out. Two years ago there

:08:06. > :08:17.

:08:17. > :08:21.were just 291 handed out. In a But perhaps it works in this case.

:08:22. > :08:25.Four years ago this woman was named and shamed and given at ASBO.

:08:25. > :08:30.People were glaring at me. I knew why they were glaring at me. They

:08:30. > :08:36.had seen my picture. It was published everywhere. All over the

:08:36. > :08:41.newspapers. I could not deny it. For some people may say that bad

:08:41. > :08:47.ASBO is a badge of honour. It was not like that for you? It was not.

:08:47. > :08:54.If I had to go back and change all that I would. There are people

:08:54. > :08:59.deeply hostile to ASBOs, but Jack Straw warns of they are abolished

:09:00. > :09:04.there will be many victims left feeling let down and angry.

:09:04. > :09:14.We are joined in the studio by Bill Pitt who pioneered the introduction

:09:14. > :09:19.

:09:19. > :09:23.of ASBOs. Art ASBOs feeling? What is feeling is the absence of a

:09:23. > :09:29.commitment by it organisations to use them quickly, properly, and to

:09:29. > :09:33.see them for what they are. Some people say they're too bureaucratic.

:09:33. > :09:37.The issue is not about being bureaucratic. The issue is about

:09:37. > :09:47.that people are not looking at the harm that is being experienced by

:09:47. > :09:56.some very vulnerable people and the community. Anti-social behaviour

:09:56. > :10:02.orders, used properly, at a significant tool. They are one

:10:02. > :10:08.example of what you can do. One of the criticisms is that they are her

:10:08. > :10:13.seen by some anti-social individuals as a badge of honour.

:10:13. > :10:20.am interested in that as a way of describing them. If you are a

:10:20. > :10:26.perpetrator of harm in a community and you are restrained, we have

:10:26. > :10:30.just got with one of our clients in the Lake District at ASBO against a

:10:30. > :10:34.juvenile who was terrorising other people in the street, he is not now

:10:34. > :10:41.allows speedy any of those things. He is not allowed to associate with

:10:41. > :10:45.some of the individuals. It is effectively a force. The police to

:10:45. > :10:49.100 % on board. That is not a badge of honour. The fact that he cannot

:10:49. > :10:54.do what he was able to be before is not a badge of honour. In Abu

:10:54. > :10:59.sentence, the Labour Party, Jack Straw, criticised the Coalition as

:10:59. > :11:07.letting the slip, but this happen before. It did happen before. Jack

:11:07. > :11:10.Straw is being at bit disingenuous. There was at taking their eye off

:11:10. > :11:17.the ball. That was a sad thing. The consequence for people has been

:11:17. > :11:22.that many people have had to live in fear up when in the use of these

:11:22. > :11:26.orders would have made sure that they were safe. We have to leave it

:11:26. > :11:33.there. Thank you. Fascinating stuff. We

:11:33. > :11:38.will be looking in greater detail at that issue and showing more of

:11:38. > :11:43.the interview with Jack Straw on The Politics Show on Sunday at

:11:43. > :11:46.midday. There has been a lot of reaction

:11:46. > :11:49.There's been lots of reaction to our series this week about the

:11:49. > :11:52.shale gas industry. With plans well advanced for a huge shale gas

:11:52. > :11:55.drilling programme on the Fylde coast, we sent Peter Marshall over

:11:55. > :11:58.to the United States to see what the impact's been there.

:11:58. > :12:01.For the people of Bradford County, Pennsylavania, the drilling - or

:12:01. > :12:04.fracking - as its called has meant a major boost to their economy but

:12:04. > :12:06.also raised serious environmental concerns. So what do the those

:12:06. > :12:16.living on the Fylde make of the American experience. Nina Warhurst

:12:16. > :12:17.

:12:17. > :12:22.went to find out. Bradford County Pennsylvania. And

:12:22. > :12:29.Bradford Lancashire. One is transformed by fracking. In the

:12:29. > :12:32.other it is a matter of time. Watching the Bradford county

:12:32. > :12:38.experience they would welcome economic boost but worry about what

:12:38. > :12:42.may come yet. Short term it looks good but long term it is scary. We

:12:42. > :12:51.do not know the effect long term. Have we been told the truth long

:12:51. > :12:55.term? Do we know the truth on term? It is not now. It is later on that

:12:55. > :13:01.we are concerned about. The company wanting to develop in Lancashire

:13:01. > :13:06.says there is no credible evidence of negative impact from fracking

:13:06. > :13:11.that the economic impact at indisputable.

:13:11. > :13:16.2000 jobs immediately. What is your prediction in the long term?

:13:16. > :13:26.could see 10,000 or 15,000 jobs within 15 years. For some that

:13:26. > :13:32.

:13:32. > :13:35.seems far away and Tess Gill is are I had never seen, for example, the

:13:36. > :13:40.pipeline across the countryside and it seemed that they were - in the

:13:40. > :13:43.place to get this in place. representative from the competition

:13:43. > :13:53.for fracking in Lancashire told us that regulations are much tighter

:13:53. > :14:00.

:14:00. > :14:03.here and that the environment will Whatever the differences in how

:14:03. > :14:11.fracking might happen here, there is no doubt that it would change

:14:11. > :14:15.the face of the Fylde for ever. Hundreds of years ago, the people

:14:15. > :14:19.of West Lancashire reclaimed the marshes inland from Southport to

:14:19. > :14:22.create fertile farmland. To prevent it becoming flooded again, the

:14:22. > :14:26.Environment Agency pumps millions of gallons of water into the sea

:14:26. > :14:29.every year. As you might expect, it is an expensive business, and for

:14:29. > :14:34.the first time, the agency is considering making the farmers

:14:34. > :14:39.themselves share the cost, as Stuart Flinders report, they say

:14:39. > :14:42.they can't and won't pay. Jim Goulding's family has farmed this

:14:43. > :14:46.demand for generations. His great- grandfather helped dig the stitches

:14:46. > :14:52.that train the excess water to an environment danger agency pumping

:14:52. > :14:56.station a few miles away. From here, the water is sent out into the

:14:56. > :15:02.report St. This costs the agency 700,000 a year and it is

:15:02. > :15:06.considering making farmers share the cost. We recognise this is an

:15:06. > :15:10.important area, it is one of the best agricultural lands in the

:15:10. > :15:14.region. Elsewhere in the country, businesses to make a contribution

:15:14. > :15:16.to land drainage which benefits their businesses. So they are

:15:16. > :15:20.getting something out of this and therefore they should pay something

:15:20. > :15:24.towards it? It is part of the discussions going forward.

:15:24. > :15:28.agency has decided to turn off the pumps in south Cumbria. Local

:15:28. > :15:35.people may have to pay extra council tax to pay for an

:15:35. > :15:40.alternative system. Denning of the Proms is not an option here. They

:15:40. > :15:45.did not pump the land, and there would have local people unable to

:15:45. > :15:49.be employed. We have come next door to give you some idea of what this

:15:49. > :15:54.area must have looked like before they started to reclaim the land

:15:54. > :15:57.for farming in the 17th century. All this water is great for wild

:15:58. > :16:05.fowl, but not good if you are trying to grow vegetables. The

:16:05. > :16:09.Environment Agency says no decision will be made until 2013.

:16:09. > :16:15.Sport, and Tony is here. Let's start with Blackburn Rovers. A

:16:15. > :16:20.torrid time on the pitch and now the council has waded in. Yes,

:16:20. > :16:23.seven points from 13 games, Blackburn Rovers. Now the leader of

:16:23. > :16:27.the council has written a letter to the club's Indian owners asking for

:16:27. > :16:31.a meeting. The Venkeys have been criticised by groups who claim it

:16:31. > :16:35.is not clear who is actually in charge of the club's day-to-day

:16:35. > :16:39.business. They also criticised a lack of to medication between the

:16:39. > :16:44.Venkeys and the local community. The council leader says the council

:16:44. > :16:53.-- club's problems could affect the committee. They have not responded

:16:53. > :16:56.to her letter, and she is not happy. I just want some answers. I have

:16:56. > :17:02.had no response, and we need to shame them into responding. Let us

:17:02. > :17:06.know what is happening, let us know the plans. Give the fans some hope.

:17:06. > :17:12.Or make alternative arrangements because we cannot go on like this.

:17:12. > :17:17.Do you mean leave the club? Absolutely. So, the Venkeys don't

:17:17. > :17:23.talk to the family -- council or the fans. And like a dog with a

:17:23. > :17:26.bone and they have not answered my calls. They have not responded to

:17:26. > :17:29.the council either, and they say all they want to do is mediate

:17:29. > :17:34.between the owners of the club and the people of Blackburn. Feelings

:17:34. > :17:39.are still running high in the town. Tomorrow, Rovers fans are due to

:17:39. > :17:44.stage another protest at Ewood Park during and after the crucial match

:17:44. > :17:47.against Swansea. At the Reebok Stadium, the Bolton

:17:47. > :17:51.manager Owen Coyles is under increasing pressure after seeing

:17:51. > :17:57.his side fall into the drop zone. Things could get even worse for him

:17:57. > :18:02.tomorrow because Wanderers are away to high-flying Spurs.

:18:02. > :18:07.It is five! I was here a few weeks ago just after Bolton thrashed

:18:07. > :18:10.Stoke City 5-0, and supporters were talking about that as being a real

:18:10. > :18:14.turning point. It has not worked out that way, so let's find out

:18:14. > :18:22.what they think about the current situation. We have just got used to

:18:22. > :18:30.losing. We just need a bit of a spur on. They need to do more. They

:18:30. > :18:33.need to get more money. If you have got championship players you will

:18:33. > :18:42.end up in the championship. don't think the players are good

:18:42. > :18:48.enough? Know. I think he is a good manager. We had first got to hang

:18:48. > :18:52.on in there. The statistics did make for easier reading. In 13

:18:52. > :18:58.Premier League matches, they have lost 10 and won just three. They

:18:58. > :19:04.have scored 19 goals, and conceded 31. The most in the top division.

:19:05. > :19:12.We need to turn that around. There is no better feeling in football

:19:12. > :19:17.when you win them and earned them. Tomorrow, they are playing a Spurs

:19:17. > :19:21.side to have won nine out of their last 10 league matches.

:19:21. > :19:25.Do you feel under pressure? Only the pressure I put myself under.

:19:25. > :19:32.They improved no end this -- last year, and we want to continue that

:19:32. > :19:40.improvements. That is my focus. Like supporters, he knows his side

:19:40. > :19:43.needs to rediscover that winning formula sooner rather than later.

:19:43. > :19:46.Preston North End are searching for a new chairman now that Maurice

:19:46. > :19:51.Lindsay has stood down due to ill health. The 70-year-old was

:19:51. > :19:56.appointed last year after the club was taken over. He was involved in

:19:56. > :20:03.the decision to sack then manager Darren Fergusson. PNE are now 14th

:20:03. > :20:09.in the one. -- League One. It is a mint weekend for two boxers

:20:09. > :20:14.called Murray. They are both fighting for world titles, one in

:20:14. > :20:22.America, and the other in Germany. They are not related, but brother,

:20:22. > :20:29.do they have the same aim! Two boxers, two world title shots,

:20:29. > :20:35.one surname. It is live shaven -- life changing. This is what I have

:20:35. > :20:41.always dreamed of. Tonight, Martin will be fighting Felix just five

:20:41. > :20:45.days before another big date, his wedding. We are flying to the

:20:46. > :20:51.Caribbean and getting married over there. I am worried about a black

:20:51. > :20:57.tie for the wedding pictures. I have got tablets to help the

:20:57. > :21:01.bruising. I am looking forward to it. Tomorrow, lightweight John is

:21:01. > :21:06.looking forward to fighting Brandon at the Madison Square Garden in New

:21:06. > :21:09.York. It is what I have always dreamed of. I have been dreaming of

:21:09. > :21:13.this day since I was a little boy and it is finally here, and now the

:21:13. > :21:17.hard work and dedication has paid off. After losing for the first

:21:17. > :21:23.time in his last fight, he has decided less fast food is the fast-

:21:23. > :21:27.track to a world title. When I should have been going for runs, I

:21:27. > :21:31.was going too fast food outlets. I needed a good kick up the backside

:21:31. > :21:35.and this has given me a good chance to look at myself and correct my

:21:35. > :21:45.life. Both men are underdogs, but these to share something other than

:21:45. > :21:47.

:21:47. > :21:51.their surname - the bottle to be world champions.

:21:51. > :21:54.Finally, good luck to Fleetwood Town. They are hoping for a giant

:21:54. > :21:58.killing in the FA Cup tonight. They are taking on Yeovil who were two

:21:58. > :22:04.divisions above them. Town are in good form and have just gone top of

:22:05. > :22:10.the Blue Square Premier League. Good luck to them.

:22:11. > :22:14.Now, we are in Salford Quays, as if you had not guessed! All through

:22:14. > :22:21.this week we have been looking at the history of the area that is now

:22:21. > :22:26.our new home. Tonight, Abbie Jones completes our

:22:26. > :22:30.story. Let's join her outside on the piazza. We have had a history

:22:30. > :22:34.lesson and we have also looked at how we have got to this shiny

:22:34. > :22:37.modern development you can see sparkling around me tonight. But

:22:37. > :22:47.what to local people, the people of Salford, think this regeneration

:22:47. > :22:51.

:22:51. > :22:56.means to them? What do they think People visit the keys from around

:22:56. > :23:01.the world. 25,000 jobs have been created here, but do people down

:23:01. > :23:08.the road in Salford use it? Do they feel connected? It was like us and

:23:08. > :23:12.them, even though there was the same road, they were the posh

:23:12. > :23:16.people with money. That's what we all thought. At Salford Lads and

:23:16. > :23:23.Girls Club, there are mixed views. There's a lot of people I know of

:23:23. > :23:27.who never got a job there. There is some shopping there, which is great.

:23:27. > :23:33.It is pretty good. This year, for the second year

:23:33. > :23:37.running, the Lowry was named Greater Manchester's most popular

:24:26. > :24:31.driving it forward over the next few years. A century after the dogs

:25:11. > :25:17.Let's have a look at the weekend I just want to look one more time

:25:17. > :25:24.at the view from our window. It is absolutely stunning. Through the

:25:24. > :25:28.night tonight, your picture is at showery and cool. Temperatures

:25:28. > :25:31.today reached nine degrees Celsius as an absolute maximum. Over the

:25:31. > :25:34.next couple of days they do gradually start to fall, and it

:25:34. > :25:39.really does feel like winter. We had the best of the are the first

:25:39. > :25:43.thing in the morning, and there are more to come as you go through the

:25:43. > :25:47.next couple of hours. Most of the region looks dry, but there is more

:25:47. > :25:51.rain waiting in the Irish Sea. That bridges across the region in the

:25:51. > :25:55.next couple of hours. Behind it, this is where the showers really

:25:55. > :25:58.start to dig in. They will turn up just about anywhere. The rain is

:25:58. > :26:02.associated with a weather front, but that is the last one we see

:26:02. > :26:06.through the weekend, so you would think it would be plain sailing.

:26:10. > :26:19.Last night we were down to zero and there was a frost for some parts.

:26:19. > :26:23.Tonight, because of the cloud cover the temperatures will stay up. On

:26:23. > :26:26.Saturday, not a huge amount of sunshine on that match. It will pop

:26:44. > :26:50.the wind and showers will take the edge of the temperatures. Sunday,

:26:50. > :27:00.no great shakes either. Monday, down to four degrees Celsius.

:27:00. > :27:02.

:27:03. > :27:06.We like to have our finger on the pulse, but you are going one-star

:27:06. > :27:10.better than us if you have heard of this lady from Toxteth. She got to
