:00:10. > :00:14.Good evening. Our top story. A mother's anguish. Police believe

:00:14. > :00:17.the person who started a house fire killing four brothers and sisters

:00:17. > :00:23.did its knowing that children were in the room for.

:00:23. > :00:33.A all four of them had so much more life to live. We find ourselves

:00:33. > :00:33.

:00:33. > :00:36.lost without them. And fix your A&E or we will shut it

:00:36. > :00:37.down. Inspections at a Lancaster hospital finds staffing at crisis

:00:37. > :00:40.level and patients left waiting in corridors.

:00:40. > :00:43.More jobs misery. Two of our world- class companies announce they are

:00:43. > :00:48.laying people off. Booted off but now she is

:00:48. > :00:51.bootylicious! The X-Factor loser who has won over Beyonce.

:00:51. > :01:01.And despite nine broken wrists, a damaged eye socket and a dislocated

:01:01. > :01:09.

:01:09. > :01:12.knee, Hollywood goes nuts for the Police believe the killer who

:01:12. > :01:16.started a fire killing four members of one family in Lancashire did it

:01:16. > :01:18.knowing children were in the room. Today they made a fresh appeal for

:01:18. > :01:26.information, saying that someone knows exactly what happened, and

:01:26. > :01:28.may well have shared their secret. It has been almost four weeks since

:01:28. > :01:31.Michelle Smith's birthday party in Freckleton ended in tragedy, and

:01:31. > :01:34.today she paid tribute to her "beautiful children who had so much

:01:34. > :01:41.more life to live". She added the rest of the her

:01:41. > :01:44.family has been left devastated. It is impossible to imagine what

:01:44. > :01:50.the past four weeks have been like for Michelle Smith, learning to

:01:50. > :01:55.live without four of her children. With a police officer she shared

:01:55. > :02:03.details of their individual personalities. Reece was her son

:02:03. > :02:08.who wanted to be an engineer working on aeroplanes. The twins,

:02:08. > :02:12.Holly and Ella were like chalk and cheese. They had their own

:02:12. > :02:17.characters and personalities. Jordan was the baby of the family,

:02:17. > :02:24.all the two years old. All of them had more life to live. We now find

:02:24. > :02:28.ourselves lost with it them. -- without them. Police confirmed

:02:28. > :02:31.they believe the flame was lit in a children's bedroom while they were

:02:31. > :02:37.in the room. This they said, was not an accident. If this was an

:02:37. > :02:41.accident that went wrong, then we need to know. You need to tell us.

:02:41. > :02:44.We need to understand exactly what happened and why. They added there

:02:44. > :02:48.is every possibility whoever did it has felt the need to share their

:02:48. > :02:53.secret, and if anyone else knows it is time to come forward. This is

:02:53. > :02:57.not a time for a divided loyalties. We are four dead people, three

:02:57. > :03:00.young children and one young man. Pictures of the wardrobe where the

:03:00. > :03:06.fire was started have now been released. You can see it is

:03:06. > :03:09.completely destroyed and can only imagine the smoke around it. A 19-

:03:09. > :03:12.year-old man has been arrested and released on police bail. Police say

:03:12. > :03:20.someone in Freckletom knows exactly why these young lives came to an

:03:20. > :03:22.end, and it is time to come forward. Get better or we will shut you. A

:03:22. > :03:25.hospital A&E department has been warned it could be closed down

:03:25. > :03:27.after a surprise inspection found staffing at crisis levels,

:03:27. > :03:32.corridors full of people waiting for help and patients forced to

:03:32. > :03:35.wait over six hours for treatment. The Royal Lancaster Infirmary has

:03:35. > :03:40.been given until the middle of March to improve by the Care

:03:40. > :03:48.Quality Commission. It is not the first warning notice for the

:03:48. > :03:55.troubled Trust that runs the hospital.

:03:55. > :03:58.That is a fairly strong warning. What did they find? They found that

:03:58. > :04:03.time and time again there were not enough nurses to look after

:04:03. > :04:07.patients inside this busy department. The Care Quality

:04:07. > :04:10.Commission who carried out the inspection said on 21st December,

:04:10. > :04:16.and a lid back on records across the whole month to give them a

:04:16. > :04:20.clearer picture, and they found a shortage of nurses. On one occasion

:04:20. > :04:25.there was just one nurse because others were busy elsewhere. On one

:04:25. > :04:29.night they found a colander full of patients waiting to be seen. 11

:04:29. > :04:35.patients waited more than four hours for treatment. Five waited

:04:35. > :04:38.for more than six hours. Staff themselves told inspectors that

:04:38. > :04:46.staffing was at crisis level, that is their own words to sum up how

:04:46. > :04:49.difficult things had become an side. -- in so aid. This trust is rarely

:04:49. > :04:53.out of the headlines. There seems to be a different problem of do

:04:53. > :04:57.week. Very much so. There are problems across these trusts, and

:04:57. > :05:02.so many different NHS bodies are looking into them. In September

:05:02. > :05:06.they were warned about the maternity services, they have an

:05:06. > :05:11.ongoing police investigation into the death of a number of mums and

:05:11. > :05:17.babies. Huge problems in their outpatients appointments system,

:05:17. > :05:25.19,000 appointments have been missed, some for patients seriously

:05:25. > :05:31.ill with cancer. They are still trying to clear the backlog.

:05:31. > :05:33.A lot of patients will have concerns. What are they been told?

:05:33. > :05:37.The Care Quality Commission are very firm on this that local people

:05:38. > :05:43.should come to the Department of the need to. The trust has said

:05:43. > :05:48.they have already reviewed staffing since December and will continue to

:05:48. > :05:53.work well with them. This is such a stark warning, and they have set a

:05:53. > :05:58.deadline of the middle of March, and if they do not approve --

:05:58. > :06:02.improve the consequences are so serious, and reduction of services,

:06:02. > :06:09.or they could close down this department. That is too awful for

:06:09. > :06:13.the trust to -- the trust concerned, so everyone will be doing

:06:13. > :06:16.everything to fix this. The former leader of Liverpool City

:06:16. > :06:18.Council has been summonsed to appear in court to face a charge of

:06:18. > :06:21.perjury. Warren Bradley is expected before Liverpool Magistrates next

:06:21. > :06:24.month after an investigation into electoral fraud. He denies the

:06:24. > :06:27.allegations. Nearly 1,000 women employed by Bury

:06:27. > :06:30.Council have won their fight for equal pay. The council has settled

:06:30. > :06:34.the claims from women who were paid less than their male colleagues for

:06:34. > :06:44.doing work of equivalent value. The case has gone on for over four

:06:44. > :06:50.

:06:50. > :06:53.years and has cost the council more than 1 million. The Duchess of

:06:53. > :06:56.Cambridge is visiting Liverpool on Valentine's Day. She is due to tour

:06:56. > :06:59.Alder Hey Children's Hospital and Action On Addiction, the charity

:06:59. > :07:02.she became a patron of earlier this year. She will tour an alcohol-free

:07:03. > :07:06.bar set up for recovering addicts in the city.

:07:06. > :07:08.One is a world class producer of glass, the other a world class

:07:08. > :07:11.producer of drugs. Today both announced significant job losses.

:07:11. > :07:14.Astra Zeneca in Alderly Park and Pilkington Glass in St Helens

:07:14. > :07:24.announced the cuts. What kind of numbers are we talking

:07:24. > :07:27.

:07:27. > :07:37.about? The numbers on the... The unions think there could be 10% of

:07:37. > :07:38.

:07:38. > :07:48.jobs going at De Alderly Park Satan of Astra -- Alderly Park side to a

:07:48. > :07:55.

:07:55. > :07:59.They have made glass here for 200 years, and they have seen countless

:07:59. > :08:03.recessions and downturns. The announced the latest will cost

:08:03. > :08:08.almost a quarter of their staff at two production sites in St Helens.

:08:08. > :08:17.When you think of St Helen's, you think of Pilkington. It is just a

:08:17. > :08:27.very sad time. It is all turning into power and land. What they do

:08:27. > :08:36.

:08:36. > :08:46.What we're finding is it is very difficult to compete from a high-

:08:46. > :09:09.

:09:09. > :09:12.cost country like UK and the East. Astra Zeneca. Staff here at Alderly

:09:12. > :09:15.Park in Cheshire research the drugs of the future. But again, the

:09:15. > :09:18.pharmaceutical industry in the East is exploding. As it does, it is

:09:18. > :09:21.driving down costs and profits. Today staff were not willing to

:09:21. > :09:24.talk. But they had been called to a meeting and told 7,300 jobs would

:09:24. > :09:29.go around the world, about 11% of the workforce. Unions believe 300

:09:29. > :09:36.jobs could be lost here, highly skilled and highly paid jobs.

:09:36. > :09:39.not want to lose jobs from this area to China. We cannot afford it.

:09:39. > :09:42.Unions fear the same could go here. Managers haven't given any national

:09:42. > :09:45.or regional breakdown of how those figures are likely to play out but

:09:45. > :09:55.unions here are speculating. They believe as many as 300 research an

:09:55. > :09:58.The downturn will end. If not this year, maybe next. But the economic

:09:58. > :10:01.threat from other markets is less likely to fade. Almost a quarter of

:10:01. > :10:03.staff over two production sites at Pilkingtons in St Helens and,

:10:03. > :10:13.possibly, though this is not confirmed by managers, 10% of staff

:10:13. > :10:31.

:10:31. > :10:34.New figures suggest there are more anti-Semitic attacks in Greater

:10:34. > :10:36.Manchester than anywhere else in the country. A report by a Jewish

:10:36. > :10:39.organisation, the Community Security Trust, details threats,

:10:39. > :10:41.vandalism and actual violence. The police say the shocking figures

:10:41. > :10:44.show more people are willing to report hate crimes than before.

:10:44. > :10:48.Rabbi Yisroel Hassal recalls an attack on his religious college

:10:48. > :10:52.that terrified students. It was a Saturday night, and some teenagers

:10:52. > :10:57.were walking down the streets and saw the boys hanging outside, they

:10:57. > :11:00.came running down and swearing at them. They came to this window, and

:11:00. > :11:10.there was a stone, which they picked up and threw it through the

:11:10. > :11:14.window. The window smashed and glass went all over the rim. It hit

:11:14. > :11:16.one of the children in the eye. He says the college has been forced

:11:16. > :11:19.to spend thousands on security. Such attacks are rare, but nothing

:11:19. > :11:22.new. This is a Jewish cemetery in Blackley, desecrated two decades

:11:22. > :11:25.ago. But the latest figures are surprising. Of nearly 600 attacks

:11:25. > :11:34.nationwide, there were 244 in Manchester, but only 201 in London,

:11:34. > :11:38.home to almost seven times as many Jews. I think we are seeing more

:11:38. > :11:42.incidents in Manchester relative to elsewhere in the country, and a lot

:11:42. > :11:46.of those are down to crime and hooliganism around the area where

:11:46. > :11:55.it's a lot of Orthodox Jews left. It is kind of hooliganism with an

:11:55. > :11:58.anti-Semitic element thrown in for. Among the instruments, a woman was

:11:58. > :12:04.attacked in a garage after been verbally abused, and two girls

:12:04. > :12:14.threatened with a cigarette lighter, being told, we will burn you like

:12:14. > :12:15.

:12:15. > :12:19.Hitler dead. -- did. We know these incidents are under-reported, so we

:12:19. > :12:23.have a police people were coming forward so we could analyse these

:12:23. > :12:33.figures and do so been about it. The records are highest since

:12:33. > :12:37.records were first created 30 years ago.

:12:37. > :12:39.It began as one woman's idea, and it is now helping some of the most

:12:39. > :12:42.vulnerable people in society. The Birchall Trust supports adults and

:12:42. > :12:44.children who have experienced sexual abuse. It was created by

:12:44. > :12:46.Christine Birchall 20 years ago when she realised there was little

:12:46. > :12:50.support for victims in her part of Cumbria.

:12:50. > :12:52.Christine died a couple of years ago, but her work lives on. The

:12:52. > :12:55.Trust now has centres in Barrow, Kendal and Lancaster. The Home

:12:55. > :13:05.Office believes its work is so valuable it has just given it

:13:05. > :13:13.

:13:13. > :13:18.200,000 to expand its Lancaster We have got one a were Keady.

:13:18. > :13:25.man was abused we knew was a boy. He told someone at the time but

:13:25. > :13:32.they did not believe him. You have gone through a whole range of

:13:32. > :13:42.emotions. This specialist councillor at The Birchall Trust is

:13:42. > :13:45.

:13:46. > :13:54.helping him. 30s, 40s, 50s. went through your teenage years and

:13:54. > :14:04.you adult years. I thought I had dealt with that. His brother had

:14:04. > :14:05.

:14:05. > :14:11.also gone through the same abuse and he had also not been believed.

:14:11. > :14:21.I more or less lost the will to love. Fortunately somebody told me

:14:21. > :14:24.

:14:24. > :14:29.about The Birchall Trust. The trust has supplied invaluable support.

:14:29. > :14:39.is important because we investigate crime, but we are not trained

:14:39. > :14:40.

:14:40. > :14:48.counsellors. What age group can use this? Any age group. The youngest

:14:48. > :14:55.we ever had was a four-year-old. This man is clear about the value

:14:55. > :15:05.of this place. My family, my friends, and my partner all

:15:05. > :15:11.

:15:11. > :15:19.understand. Now, still to come, is it a bird, is it a plane - know it

:15:19. > :15:28.is The Flying Squirrel. And the athlete who is flying in

:15:28. > :15:35.the race towards the Olympics. Laura White may have been pipped to

:15:35. > :15:42.the post in the X Factor final. It is three years since she was beaten

:15:42. > :15:50.by Alexandra Burke. Now she is writing songs for Beyonce and Leona

:15:51. > :16:00.Lewis. She has no released her own album. -- she has no released her

:16:01. > :16:01.

:16:01. > :16:08.own album. She is probably better known for this.

:16:08. > :16:17.But then this happened. We are sending a Laura White home tonight.

:16:17. > :16:27.It raised a row in Parliament. Even the Prime Minister got involved.

:16:27. > :16:28.

:16:28. > :16:34.One year after the show I did again egg for Gordon Brown. -- a concert

:16:34. > :16:44.for Gordon Brown. Now she is writing songs for one of the

:16:44. > :16:44.

:16:44. > :16:51.biggest stars in the world. I have been asked to write for Leona Lewis.

:16:51. > :17:01.I have now written a song for Beyonce. It is incredible that they

:17:01. > :17:09.

:17:09. > :17:14.wanted me to write it. # I do not need a smiling face.

:17:15. > :17:24.has got her own album out soon. Every single song is about my

:17:25. > :17:25.

:17:25. > :17:30.experiences. What could be better than choosing to play as small and

:17:30. > :17:40.intimate venue so that the fans can fall in love with her music all

:17:40. > :17:42.

:17:42. > :17:52.over again? She is jazzy and I like that. I like her music. I thought

:17:52. > :17:58.she was lovely. Despite what the judges say, she still has the X

:17:58. > :18:06.Factor. Good luck.

:18:06. > :18:10.She has done it brilliantly. She will go far.

:18:11. > :18:15.Our top female pole vaulter may not be a household name just yet but

:18:15. > :18:21.there is every chance in the future Holly Bleasdale could be mentioned

:18:21. > :18:28.in the same breath as the likes of Jessica Ennis.

:18:28. > :18:31.She has produced the highest pole vault this year. She is also

:18:31. > :18:41.helping to inspire the next generation.

:18:41. > :18:42.

:18:42. > :18:47.This could be one of the stories of the Olympics.

:18:47. > :18:56.After posting the fourth-highest fault in history she has jumped to

:18:56. > :19:04.the top of the rankings. It is a big shock. I cannot believe I have

:19:04. > :19:14.achieved that. She only took up the sport four years ago and is already

:19:14. > :19:14.

:19:14. > :19:22.inspiring the next generation. you ready? Brilliant. This is her

:19:22. > :19:28.doing some teaching at a school in Wigan earlier this week. It is

:19:28. > :19:38.probably one of the best experiences of my life. She is one

:19:38. > :19:46.of the best females in the world. She is the best in Britain. I can

:19:46. > :19:56.sense the excitement every time I go to a school. It is a big benefit

:19:56. > :19:57.

:19:57. > :20:03.for as having the Olympics in this country. Britain has found appalled

:20:03. > :20:09.vaulting star of the future. -- a star of pole-vaulting for the

:20:09. > :20:13.future. If you managed to survive long

:20:13. > :20:19.enough to live in the same place for 120 years it would be a wrench

:20:19. > :20:29.moving to a new home. But that is what St Helens are doing. France

:20:29. > :20:39.said goodbye to their old stadium - - supporters said goodbye.

:20:39. > :20:44.

:20:44. > :20:54.Ray French takes as a round of Welcome to Langtry home -- welcome

:20:54. > :20:56.

:20:56. > :21:03.to Langtree Park. It has a capacity of 18,000.

:21:03. > :21:13.I can assure you the atmosphere will be quite something. It will

:21:13. > :21:20.create enthusiasm around the town. Hopefully the players can provide

:21:20. > :21:30.the right entertainment. Opposition teams will enjoy coming

:21:30. > :21:30.

:21:30. > :21:38.here and want to cause an upset. If we perform well we can make our new

:21:38. > :21:48.stadium a fortress just like the old one. A new stadium, yes, but it

:21:48. > :21:50.

:21:50. > :22:00.still retains the memories of the past.

:22:00. > :22:01.

:22:01. > :22:11.Hopefully they will be stars of the future. Preparations have been

:22:11. > :22:16.

:22:16. > :22:22.fantastic. It looks fabulous. That was Ray French there. Tomorrow

:22:22. > :22:27.we will be looking at the new stadium of Salford City Reds.

:22:27. > :22:32.It must be the week for young people in our region to go to

:22:32. > :22:40.Hollywood because, they call him the The Flying Squirrel. He has

:22:40. > :22:47.been spotted by an agent from Hollywood. He spends all his spare

:22:47. > :22:53.time skating. He got a call from a talent scout

:22:53. > :22:59.in America. He is hoping to go over to America.

:23:00. > :23:08.Jordan Watkins loves being airborne. He has been at rollerblading for

:23:08. > :23:15.four years. A lot of adrenalin. It is a good feeling. When you're in

:23:15. > :23:20.the clear he were on cloud nine. It feels like no one can bring you

:23:20. > :23:28.down. For it is not a cheap hobby. He goes through several pairs of

:23:28. > :23:34.boots per year. There are also the box he has taken. I have shattered

:23:34. > :23:44.my wrist in seven different places. I had broken my knees. I have

:23:44. > :23:49.

:23:49. > :23:59.damaged my right eye socket. I have done a fair amount. He has had six

:23:59. > :24:04.

:24:04. > :24:11.people in a row and jump over them. His talents were spotted in the

:24:11. > :24:18.online videos by a Hollywood casting agent. He is now looking

:24:18. > :24:25.for sponsorship to taken from his home to America.

:24:25. > :24:35.He tells me he can clear 17 people lying across this ramp. Is this

:24:35. > :24:37.

:24:38. > :24:46.safe? Positive. Here we go. You said that I could have

:24:46. > :24:56.something special for doing that stunt earlier. There you are. Slap,

:24:56. > :25:00.

:25:00. > :25:04.tap. I hope she filled out a health and

:25:04. > :25:14.I hope she filled out a health and safety form!

:25:14. > :25:19.

:25:19. > :25:29.Here is the weather: This time last night we were accused of sitting on

:25:29. > :25:33.

:25:33. > :25:43.the fence. No details are more firm. It is all about a change in wind

:25:43. > :25:48.

:25:48. > :25:55.direction. This south-westerly wind is bringing in weather fronts.

:25:55. > :25:59.There may be up to five centimetres of snow by Saturday. It may lie for
