:11:52. > :11:58.final whistle last night at the Etihad Stadium, they were
:11:58. > :12:04.celebrating as if they had won. It is not over. Let's look at how it
:12:04. > :12:09.has changed. This was the table before kick-off. City are top on
:12:09. > :12:15.goal difference. A goal difference of eight. With two games to play,
:12:15. > :12:19.equal points, City in charge but we have seen United come back so many
:12:19. > :12:24.times from seemingly impossible situations. And it comes down to

:12:31. > :12:36.tricky one. Yes, it could come down to this Sunday, away at Newcastle.
:12:36. > :12:41.Newcastle got a battering at Wigan. And Wigan were overshadowed on

:12:51. > :12:58.of the season, City host keepy are fighting relegation. United are

:13:13. > :13:16.But a proposed four million pound glass and steel conference centre

:13:19. > :13:21.too modern for the tranquillity of the lake. Business leaders say it's
:13:21. > :13:28.just what the area needs. Our Environment Correspondent Colin
:13:28. > :13:33.Sykes reports. It is one of the best-known views in the Lake
:13:33. > :13:36.District, winded me with Langdales in the background. This would be
:13:36. > :13:41.the view from the proposed convention centre at the water
:13:41. > :13:47.sports centre which would be locked -- knocked down. This area has no
:13:47. > :13:53.building like that. We are hoping that these large one-off events, it
:13:53. > :13:58.will put it on the map. The design is based on Morecambe's 1930s
:13:58. > :14:03.Midland Hotel which the group owns. The centre will be behind me why
:14:03. > :14:09.you can see the trees, the boats were a big feature and still are
:14:09. > :14:13.but the speed limit has changed life on Windermere. Watersports are
:14:13. > :14:17.still popular on Windermere but the speed ban has left businesses
:14:17. > :14:23.looking for other openings. It is the building's design which is
:14:23. > :14:28.polarising opinion. You should be able to see the lake. We need
:14:28. > :14:33.something modern otherwise you don't keep up with the times.
:14:33. > :14:38.scenery should be left as it is. Local environment groups say it

:15:32. > :15:37.profile vote will be for the new mayor of Liverpool - the man chosen
:15:37. > :15:41.to run the city council. Well there's no doubt that the biggest
:15:41. > :15:43.issue in the campaign has been jobs and the local economy. Our
:15:43. > :15:51.political editor Arif Ansari has been finding out what the
:15:51. > :15:57.candidates are offering. The new mayor of Liverpool is supposed to
:15:57. > :16:04.raise the city's profile. The town hall has attracted some big
:16:04. > :16:10.international visitors. The Giants came from Nantes in France. Nantes
:16:10. > :16:14.is an old port city. But we have a future. It is not finished. The
:16:14. > :16:19.history is not finished, it's a new beginning. Joe Anderson, the
:16:19. > :16:25.current leader, says his record is one of economic regeneration.
:16:25. > :16:30.here, we're talking about bringing cruise liners back again to help
:16:30. > :16:34.business and create jobs. In a way, you have done what you could as
:16:34. > :16:39.council leader, can you do more? can speak on behalf of the city
:16:39. > :16:44.with a mandate and we can guarantee things will get done faster and
:16:44. > :16:48.quicker. But could include the multi-million pound redevelopment

:16:55. > :16:59.not everyone is so keen. Unlike Anderson, I do not believe World

:17:26. > :17:30.would increase trade through the ports and South America, the

:17:39. > :17:42.and trousers and see where it is manufactured. If it is not in
:17:42. > :17:47.Britain and you buy it, looking should be doing to the downfall of
:17:47. > :17:54.the economy. We need to be more adventurous using links through
:17:54. > :18:00.colleges and universities and some communities in the city. We need to
:18:00. > :18:05.look outwards, not inwards. One of the candidates is doing both. Tony
:18:05. > :18:09.has his own factory on Merseyside and another in China. I have been
:18:09. > :18:15.creating jobs for 20 years, my business started on a market stall
:18:15. > :18:18.and that created hundreds of jobs in Liverpool and Merseyside. All of
:18:19. > :18:23.the candidates have debated the issues offering voters a range of
:18:23. > :18:30.policies. The council's priorities must be focused on frontline
:18:30. > :18:39.services, the elderly, children and the sick. Not on PCTs projects
:18:39. > :18:44.pandering to minorities. We must clean up the air to make small
:18:44. > :18:50.businesses want to locate and thrive. We have been heartened to
:18:50. > :18:55.come across many young people in their mid-twenties he had started
:18:55. > :19:01.businesses in this harsh climate. I pledge to help them. The inner city
:19:01. > :19:04.has big problems. More than one in five of people are not working,
:19:04. > :19:08.twice the average -- national average. The sun, it is a modern
:19:08. > :19:15.tale of two cities. I would commence a campaign to oppose
:19:15. > :19:21.further cuts and to draw money back into the city which has been cut
:19:21. > :19:25.from Liverpool's budget by this government. Joe Anderson is
:19:25. > :19:28.implementing it without any challenge. It is a reminder that
:19:28. > :19:36.whoever becomes the city's first elected mayor would have a great
:19:36. > :19:39.deal to do. We did invite the National Front candidate to take

:19:43. > :19:51.website, that's www.bbc.co.uk/liverpool. And voting
:19:51. > :19:54.takes place on Thursday. They've been entertaining Wirral for around
:19:54. > :19:57.20 years but Radio Merseyside listeners will have heard this
:19:57. > :20:01.morning that a Rockferry majorette club was facing eviction from its
:20:01. > :20:04.home for making too much noise. The Bethany Starlights troupe practices
:20:04. > :20:10.in a church hall on Old Chester Road but some neighbours said they
:20:10. > :20:19.were causing a disturbance. Well in the last couple of hours there's
:20:19. > :20:24.been some developments and Kate Simms is with the troupe now. What
:20:24. > :20:31.has happened? These are the Bethany Starlights majorettes. They are a
:20:31. > :20:36.bit noisy, usually they are nausea. They usually have it a lot louder,
:20:36. > :20:40.the music. It has caused problems for the people in the flats. They
:20:40. > :20:48.complained to the council, the council agreed yes, the noise was
:20:48. > :20:54.causing noise pollution. The future looked bleak. We were told by the
:20:55. > :21:00.council to soundproof the windows. We could not afford to pay for that.
:21:00. > :21:05.It is so expensive to do it. There was no arouse to go. There is no
:21:05. > :21:11.way to go. We needed to sort the wind is up. So you faced eviction
:21:11. > :21:17.until these guys stepped in. were impressed with the work they
:21:17. > :21:23.do here. We were only too happy to come and help out. What have you
:21:23. > :21:29.done? We have measured up for acoustic glass and we will put new
:21:29. > :21:35.double-glazed units in. That will solve the problem. So, the dancing
:21:35. > :21:43.can continue. No one is more delighted than The Gulls. You must
:21:43. > :21:47.be delighted. I am really made up. We are really happy. We can keep
:21:47. > :21:54.training. The girls have been saying this place is more than just
:21:54. > :21:59.a hall. Tell me why this place is so important. It is called Bethany
:21:59. > :22:05.Starlights after a girl the died four years ago. So, it would be
:22:05. > :22:12.like leaving memories of her. it holds a lot of memories. To lose
:22:12. > :22:16.the hall, we would be losing part of her. Now, they get to stay. That
:22:16. > :22:26.is one hurdle overcome. They have to win back their championship at
:22:26. > :22:36.pontoons this season. Let's look at the rehearsal. They are brave to do
:22:36. > :22:37.
