:20:48. > :20:51.experience as the result. Some of our boys have never had a passport
:20:52. > :20:55.before so to be part of a World Cup was to enjoy it and get the
:20:56. > :20:59.experience overseas and meet people and other cultures and we are really
:21:00. > :21:04.enjoying it. They were shopping this afternoon at the Old Trafford
:21:05. > :21:14.centre. Some big sizes and their! Big size 16 shoes. It seems that his
:21:15. > :21:19.players are taking it all in the trade. Very different to Australia,
:21:20. > :21:26.but very enjoyable. What about the experience of Old Trafford? Yes it
:21:27. > :21:30.is an unbelievable stadium. We have a stadium on the Gold Coast which
:21:31. > :21:34.seats 27,000 in this one is obviously about three times the size
:21:35. > :21:38.so it has been a wonderful experience just to see what the
:21:39. > :21:42.stadium was like. Asfordby head coach he knows Old Trafford well
:21:43. > :21:46.from his within days when he was involved in some proud moments. ``
:21:47. > :21:51.as for the head coach. Non`coder than leading his country. There is
:21:52. > :21:56.no prouder moment than putting these boys, and we have an opportunity on
:21:57. > :22:01.Friday against New Zealand, the current world champions. They will
:22:02. > :22:04.be up against it, but one of the friendliest teams around will not be
:22:05. > :22:07.short on support. Before I go, you'll remember last
:22:08. > :22:09.night we were previewing a big auction of Nat Lofthouse
:22:10. > :22:13.memorabilia, including his England cap from the famous Lion of Vienna
:22:14. > :22:17.game. Well the auction was today, and some good news lots of the items
:22:18. > :22:20.up for sale have been bought by Bolton Council with help from NCP
:22:21. > :22:29.and they'll go on permanent display at Bolton Museum. Much better than
:22:30. > :22:39.gathering dust in a collectors safe.? `` collector's safe. Everyone
:22:40. > :22:41.can now see them forevermore. He was absolutely phenomenal. The council
:22:42. > :22:46.had help, so they weren't spending council taxpayers money on!
:22:47. > :22:48.When you move into a new home, you might sometimes wonder what the
:22:49. > :22:52.previous owners might have been like. Well, one couple who moved
:22:53. > :22:55.into a house in Cumbria have spent a fair amount of time finding out
:22:56. > :23:00.about the past resident of their place. He was the children's author
:23:01. > :23:03.Arthur Ransome. And as Dave Guest reports, documenting his connections
:23:04. > :23:15.with the house has become a labour of love for the pair.? it is a
:23:16. > :23:17.quintessentially English tale of well spoken children enjoying a
:23:18. > :23:22.spiffing adventure in the Lake District.
:23:23. > :23:27.Swallows and Amazons as a children's classic and the man who wrote it,
:23:28. > :23:33.Arthur Ransome, also loved Lakeland. He spent many summers at this
:23:34. > :23:38.cottage, and he liked it so much he wanted and spent the final years of
:23:39. > :23:45.his life here. The current owners, Stephen and Gillian Sykes, spent
:23:46. > :23:50.half ?1 million renovating hilltop. The view is unmistakable. They have
:23:51. > :23:55.retained other features, that would also make the offer of you at home.
:23:56. > :24:00.Was it the Arthur Ransome collection that persuaded you to buy the place?
:24:01. > :24:07.It is a beautiful home in any case, but with the Arthur Ransome
:24:08. > :24:11.connection it was the added sparkle that we were looking for. Stephen
:24:12. > :24:14.spent a lot of time researching the residents, he looked out long
:24:15. > :24:20.forgotten photographs of the offer and his wife at the cottage. He even
:24:21. > :24:27.discovered rarely heard sound recordings of the author. He has
:24:28. > :24:31.been restoring them. As you can see, once you have used the software the
:24:32. > :24:36.crackling that was on the recording previously is extracted entirely and
:24:37. > :24:41.you get a nice clean recording. Has he become in recession for you? I
:24:42. > :24:45.wouldn't say obsession but he's a very interesting character, Arthur
:24:46. > :24:49.Ransome. Indeed he was. As a newspaper correspondence he covered
:24:50. > :24:53.the rushing revolution and married Trotsky's former secretary. He was
:24:54. > :24:58.named the cease`fire and double agents years after his death. This
:24:59. > :25:03.is the laps picture ever taken of him and it was taken in this very
:25:04. > :25:09.room. Arthur Ransome died in 19 7, he is buried about four miles as the
:25:10. > :25:13.crow flies in that direction. Stephen hopes that by resetting the
:25:14. > :25:19.writer's connections with this house, those connections will never
:25:20. > :25:24.be forgotten. `` re`searching the connections.
:25:25. > :25:29.It is something that every child of the generation must read. I am
:25:30. > :25:34.afraid to say it is a gap in my literary education!
:25:35. > :25:40.As I mentioned earlier, I was nearly washed away. It was absolutely
:25:41. > :25:45.bucketing down. It has been a bit of a damp squib.
:25:46. > :25:51.We have had plenty of rain throughout this afternoon, barely
:25:52. > :25:53.any sunshine at all. It will be a disappointing day for November and
:25:54. > :25:57.there is plenty more where that came from. Over the next two or three
:25:58. > :26:00.days and into the weekend you can see we are going to see a lot of
:26:01. > :26:05.rain, a bit of improvements tomorrow on Friday and Saturday and Sunday I
:26:06. > :26:07.think I can guarantee you some rain and disappointing temperatures. It
:26:08. > :26:13.is not going to be particularly warm, either. Tonight we have rain
:26:14. > :26:17.around and it will eventually easily into the morning. It will not
:26:18. > :26:19.disappear completely and we still have showers continuing to make
:26:20. > :26:28.their way in from across the Irish Sea. It D please unite, we see clear
:26:29. > :26:35.skies into dawn. `` we see a breezy night and clear skies. For tomorrow,
:26:36. > :26:43.very much of an improvement, actually. It will be a breezy day
:26:44. > :26:49.but right from the word go, and also a desire to from the word go. We
:26:50. > :26:52.have one or two showers initially by the stiff westerly breeze continuing
:26:53. > :26:55.to bring showers on. Perhaps even the risk of thunder from time to
:26:56. > :26:58.time tomorrow. In Lancashire tomorrow we could see places with
:26:59. > :27:04.temperatures rising no higher than in degrees, but elsewhere we could
:27:05. > :27:07.see ten or 11 degrees. Make the most of the dry in bright conditions
:27:08. > :27:12.because tomorrow night the showers will begin to pale backing from the
:27:13. > :27:16.West and it will be another chilly evening and for Friday and Saturday
:27:17. > :27:25.it will stay quite breezy with plenty more showers to come.
:27:26. > :27:30.A wet picture. What is the weather world like? A parallel universe I
:27:31. > :27:39.always say damp squid, but apparently it is damp squib! Damp
:27:40. > :27:40.squib made us laugh. I must treat Swallows and Amazons, we decided the
:27:41. > :27:44.Labour club. Good night.
