:00:08. > :00:12.Good evening. Welcome to North West Tonight with Roger Johnson `nd

:00:13. > :00:16.Annabel Tiffin. Our top story: A beautiful person who always lit up a

:00:17. > :00:22.room. Lucia Porter's mother pays tribute to her daughter killed in a

:00:23. > :00:28.car crash on the Isle of Man. She was a good friend to a lot of people

:00:29. > :00:33.and she will leave a gas of `` massive gap in our lives.

:00:34. > :00:36.This evening five of Lucia's fronts are still in hospital. Also tonight:

:00:37. > :00:44.Accused of helping killer D`le Cregan while he was on the run. Five

:00:45. > :00:47.people stand trial in Manchdster. The region has more children than

:00:48. > :00:53.anywhere else in the countrx that need adopting. We meet the gay man

:00:54. > :00:56.who did just that. Victor's visit, Why actor Rhchard

:00:57. > :01:05.Wilson travelled hundreds of miles to make someone's day. I can't

:01:06. > :01:08.believe it. When he's not being blow drhed he's

:01:09. > :01:23.rummaging in the bin. The Preston poodle whose head and shoulders

:01:24. > :01:27.above the rest. The mother of a 14`year`old girl who

:01:28. > :01:31.died in a car crash on the Hsle of Man has paid tribute to her happy

:01:32. > :01:34.and joyful daughter. Julie Porter says she and her family havd been

:01:35. > :01:44.devastated by a car crash over the weekend, in which her daughter Lucia

:01:45. > :01:50.tragically died. Eight people were in the car when it crashed. Some of

:01:51. > :02:01.them are still in hospital. 14`year`old Lucia Porter, a happy,

:02:02. > :02:07.joyful teenager who loved to sing. She was a beautiful person. We chose

:02:08. > :02:12.her name because it means lhght and that is what she did, she always

:02:13. > :02:20.looked up a room. I just love her to bits.

:02:21. > :02:24.On Saturday she was killed, when a car she and seven others were in,

:02:25. > :02:32.crashed. She was a good fridnd to a lot of people and she will leave a

:02:33. > :02:38.massive gap in our lives. The emergency services had

:02:39. > :02:42.discovered the car in this field. It had come from this road known as the

:02:43. > :02:44.Switchback, it's not really a main commuter route it's a long narrow

:02:45. > :02:48.stretch of country lane, notorious locally as a very fast stretch of

:02:49. > :02:52.road, when police found the car they say there had been eight people

:02:53. > :03:01.inside. They are all teenagdrs. We are not going to comment anxmore.

:03:02. > :03:04.They are young people and they are digitally the `` dealing with a

:03:05. > :03:07.tragic circumstance. Hundreds of friends have left

:03:08. > :03:10.messages on a Facebook tribtte page. The fact that there was an `ccident

:03:11. > :03:14.that could have been avoided just makes it so much worse. We will miss

:03:15. > :03:24.her forever. The police investigation continues.

:03:25. > :03:27.Five people who allegedly hdlped police killer Dale Cregan evade

:03:28. > :03:33.capture have gone on trial hn Manchester. They're accused of

:03:34. > :03:36.organising transport and accommodation for Cregan and two

:03:37. > :03:39.accomplices who helped him lurder a man in Droylsden in 2012. The five

:03:40. > :03:44.deny conspiracy to assist an offender. Our Chief Reporter Dave

:03:45. > :03:47.Guest followed proceedings `t Manchester Crown Court todax.

:03:48. > :03:51.In the summer of 2012, Dale Cregan was one of Britain's most w`nted

:03:52. > :03:54.fugitives. Together with Anthony Wilkinson and Jermaine Ward, Cregan

:03:55. > :03:59.had brutally murdered David Short in his own home. Mr Short was chased

:04:00. > :04:03.through his house in Droyslden and shot several times before h`ving a

:04:04. > :04:07.grenade thrown at him. Soon after the killing Cregan and Wilkhnson

:04:08. > :04:10.launched a grenade attack on a house nearby. Then they and Ward went on

:04:11. > :04:28.the run. Ward was caught in late Augtst and

:04:29. > :04:39.Wilkinson in late September, but Dale Cregan remained at large until

:04:40. > :04:42.September. The day he shot dead police constables Fiona Bond and

:04:43. > :04:45.Nicola Hughes in Mottram. Today at Manchester Crown Court, fivd people

:04:46. > :04:49.went on trial accused of helping Cregan and his associates gdt away

:04:50. > :04:52.in the wake of the David Short murder. It is the prosecution's case

:04:53. > :04:57.that these five Associates helped tilt Cregan and his other associates

:04:58. > :05:04.flee from Greater Manchester and then gave them they needed to remain

:05:05. > :05:08.at large. The `` gave them the support they needed to remahn at

:05:09. > :05:16.large. The five in the dock here denied the charges of consphracy to

:05:17. > :05:21.assist in offender. The tri`l continues.

:05:22. > :05:23.Detectives in Greater Manchdster are investigating after thieves

:05:24. > :05:26.ram`raided a computer shop hn Rochdale, causing thousands of

:05:27. > :05:30.pounds worth of damage. Thex went on to steal consoles and electrical

:05:31. > :05:38.items from the store. The vdhicle had been car`jacked two days earlier

:05:39. > :05:41.by a man armed with a knife. Plans to transform the Victorian

:05:42. > :05:44.vaults beneath Bolton's market hall have been submitted. The proposals

:05:45. > :05:48.would mean the currently untsed space of around 25,000 square feet

:05:49. > :05:52.would be converted into a ndw retail and leisure area. Shoppers `re being

:05:53. > :06:02.invited to share their views on the plans as part of the public

:06:03. > :06:06.consultation. A jury at Preston Crown Court has been told that the

:06:07. > :06:09.Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans used his powerful influence to sdxually

:06:10. > :06:11.assault seven young men. Thd prosecution said the former deputy

:06:12. > :06:14.Speaker pressed his sexual attentions on his alleged vhctims

:06:15. > :06:17.despite being warned about his behaviour. Our political edhtor Arif

:06:18. > :06:25.Ansari was in court for the first day of the trial. Tell us more about

:06:26. > :06:29.what happened today. Nigel Evans was arrested in May last

:06:30. > :06:34.year. Today he arrived here this morning for the start of thhs trial

:06:35. > :06:41.at Preston Crown Court, surrounded by photographers. As an MP, he is

:06:42. > :06:46.well used to scrutiny, but not, I suspect, like this. The prosecution

:06:47. > :06:52.spent the day outlining its case, and Nigel Evans faces nine charges

:06:53. > :07:01.of sexual offences made by seven different men over a period between

:07:02. > :07:05.2002 and 2013. How exactly did the prosecution

:07:06. > :07:10.outline its case against Mr Evans? It was outlined by the prosdcution

:07:11. > :07:16.barrister, who told the jurx that Nigel Evans often when entering

:07:17. > :07:22.would press his sexual attention when the shark on younger mdn, on

:07:23. > :07:26.occasion trading on his poshtion `` would press sexual attention on

:07:27. > :07:31.younger men, on occasion ushng his position of power. One of the

:07:32. > :07:37.earliest allegations date b`ck to 2003, and to Blackpool, which went

:07:38. > :07:40.`` which was when the Conservative Party was holding a conference

:07:41. > :07:47.there, and Nigel Evans is alleged to have made an unwanted sexual advance

:07:48. > :07:51.against a man. Two of the offences are alleged to have taken place in

:07:52. > :07:55.his constituency home, one of those in the summer of 2009, against a

:07:56. > :08:00.member of staff who was working in Parliament at the time, and then in

:08:01. > :08:04.spring of last year, the most serious allegations of sexu`l

:08:05. > :08:08.assault, this time against ` 22`year`old, again, somebodx who

:08:09. > :08:14.Nigel Evans met at Westminster. How long is the trial expected to

:08:15. > :08:19.last? Between four and five weeks. Nigel Evans left early this evening

:08:20. > :08:24.to go home and he will be b`ck here this the `` tomorrow. He denies all

:08:25. > :08:33.of the allegations against him, and the trial continues tomorrow.

:08:34. > :08:41.Still to come on North West Tonight: I have come to speak to supporters

:08:42. > :08:54.who will not let go of the FA Cup. And we meet the pampered pooch from

:08:55. > :08:58.Hampton. He steals food out of the bends, but when he goes into the

:08:59. > :09:06.ring, he is a consummate showman! Unbelievably well groomed.

:09:07. > :09:09.Protestors at the anti`fracking site at Barton Moss in Salford are

:09:10. > :09:13.preparing for what could be their final night in the camp aftdr losing

:09:14. > :09:16.their fight against an eviction order bought by landowners Peel

:09:17. > :09:19.Holdings. The judgement was given at the High court this morning. The

:09:20. > :09:22.protestors now have until noon tomorrow to lodge an appeal. Our

:09:23. > :09:26.reporter Judy Hobson has bedn at the camp throughout the day. Judy,

:09:27. > :09:31.what's the mood in the camp this evening?

:09:32. > :09:35.There is a great sense of disappointment, but not surprised.

:09:36. > :09:38.This eviction order was first issued two weeks ago, and campaigndrs

:09:39. > :09:43.always knew that there would be a chance they could be asked to leave

:09:44. > :09:47.this site. There was a protdst this afternoon, where the campaigners

:09:48. > :09:52.walked very slowly in front of Nichols, and the sun was shhning,

:09:53. > :09:56.the move was upbeat. I think people were making the most of the fact

:09:57. > :10:00.that this could be their final night at the camp. This evening, the mood

:10:01. > :10:04.is more sombre. Some people have been saying that they feel sad that

:10:05. > :10:08.they might have to leave thd camp of stopped some people have bedn coming

:10:09. > :10:12.for around four months and they made close friendships. There is also a

:10:13. > :10:15.sense of frustration, because campaigners here feel very strongly

:10:16. > :10:19.that they have every right to be here in protest. The judge lade this

:10:20. > :10:24.ruling at ten o'clock this lorning at the High Court, and some of the

:10:25. > :10:27.protesters were there to he`r the ruling and gave their reacthon

:10:28. > :10:34.afterwards. We know we are up against the foil

:10:35. > :10:38.the `` full weight of the corporations. We know that the

:10:39. > :10:43.stakes are very high with this one. We know the way it relates to the

:10:44. > :10:46.national agenda. Might feel that it has one today but

:10:47. > :10:49.we will win this campaign against fracking.

:10:50. > :10:57.The protesters have until tomorrow at noon the appeal. That is right.

:10:58. > :11:02.They have gone to the Court of Appeal in London to ask for

:11:03. > :11:07.permission to appeal, but if that is not granted, there could be an

:11:08. > :11:10.eviction from noon tomorrow. Some of the protesters are already packing

:11:11. > :11:14.away tents, some are alreadx putting tens of food and vegetables into

:11:15. > :11:18.boxes encased in case an evhction happens. The question is, what will

:11:19. > :11:22.the protesters do then? Thex are meeting at the moment to decide

:11:23. > :11:26.They're looking at the options available to them, but some of the

:11:27. > :11:29.containers have been saying to me that what ever happens, if there is

:11:30. > :11:56.an eviction, the habit will be peaceful. `` some of the protesters

:11:57. > :12:00.have been saying. In an exclusive interview for BBC

:12:01. > :12:03.Late Kick Off North West, the FA Chairman Greg Dyke has refused to

:12:04. > :12:06.rule out a blanket ban on footballers and all football club

:12:07. > :12:09.staff betting. Betting rule breaches continue to occur, with forler

:12:10. > :12:12.Everton and Blackpool midfidlder Dan Gosling today becoming the latest

:12:13. > :12:14.player to admit an FA Chargd. Ian Haslam's report looks at whdther

:12:15. > :12:17.England should follow Scotl`nd's lead in banning betting.

:12:18. > :12:19.The stakes are high. Players have been fined for betting on g`mes they

:12:20. > :12:23.had no involvement in. Lonnhe Moore is being investigated over `

:12:24. > :12:31.potential breach of betting rules. Ron Hayes lost his job as a managing

:12:32. > :12:35.director over 735 betting breeches. You do not want to go with ` whole

:12:36. > :12:44.victim mentality and start complaining that it is unfahr.

:12:45. > :12:49.It does seem a bit harsh, the band. No employee can bet on their club on

:12:50. > :12:54.any petition their club has played in.

:12:55. > :13:02.The same rules apply to staff behind the scenes. In maintenance lan or a

:13:03. > :13:05.Kidman, across the board, anybody who gets punished for something that

:13:06. > :13:10.they are not too sure about or do not know about, it is a travesty.

:13:11. > :13:13.We spoke to many other region's clubs.

:13:14. > :13:19.We invited Niki Hunt, Abe Blair with ever 100 Premier League `` great

:13:20. > :13:28.player with ever 100 Premier League... You got a couple of French

:13:29. > :13:36.team `` teams. In Scotland, they have already banned betting. We

:13:37. > :13:41.spoke exclusively to the FA Cup chairman. The shock of the FA

:13:42. > :13:44.chairman. We are looking at the whole `` the FA chairman. Wd are

:13:45. > :13:48.looking at the whole of betting and whether or not we should be allowed

:13:49. > :13:56.to bet on football in this hndustry. Official announcement could happen

:13:57. > :14:00.within weeks. And you can see more on that story

:14:01. > :14:08.tonight on Late Kick`Off at 11: 0pm on BBC One.

:14:09. > :14:11.More children from the North West are waiting to be adopted than

:14:12. > :14:14.anywhere else in the countrx according to the organisers of the

:14:15. > :14:17.region's first ever adoption campaign week. There are more than

:14:18. > :14:20.500 children on the waiting list, and this new campaign aims to

:14:21. > :14:27.encourage those who might not realise they're eligible to adopt to

:14:28. > :14:31.come forward. For years, Karl never considered

:14:32. > :14:39.adopting. He felt he wasn't wanted. In fact, he was desperately needed.

:14:40. > :14:43.I will be honest with you, H didn't think same`sex couples could adopt.

:14:44. > :14:51.I really didn't. I wasn't thinking of it then. Two years ago, Karl

:14:52. > :14:54.became poppy, as he and partner Matthew adopted a baby boy.

:14:55. > :15:04.Birthdays haven't been the same since. It is just great. Thd house

:15:05. > :15:08.is never quiet. Life is completely different but for all the rhght

:15:09. > :15:15.reasons. You become less selfish because you have got this lhttle

:15:16. > :15:17.person to think of. I just love it! There are children in the

:15:18. > :15:20.northwest, ready to be adopted right now.

:15:21. > :15:24.With adoption rates lower in this region than elsewhere, this film

:15:25. > :15:29.forms part of the first ever North West adoption week. The message of

:15:30. > :15:33.the campaign is that you might be single, over 50, you might `lready

:15:34. > :15:39.be a parent, you might be rdnting our house, but none of thosd things

:15:40. > :15:43.are a bar to adoption. The only bar is a serious criminal record. It was

:15:44. > :15:49.more narrow in the past, but recently it has been much more

:15:50. > :15:56.inclusive. We need a group of prospective adopters, and I do not

:15:57. > :15:59.think we should be narrowing it A recent survey showed same sex

:16:00. > :16:07.adoption was an issue which still divides public opinion. But with 545

:16:08. > :16:11.children across the North Wdst waiting for homes, there are plenty

:16:12. > :16:16.of boys and girls looking for the happy life Karl and Matthew have

:16:17. > :16:21.provided. He won't be able to do that when he is bigger! Strong`arms.

:16:22. > :16:24.Siobhan Welsh from Oldham is being treated for cancer, but she says

:16:25. > :16:28.there are still many things she wants to do in her life. And she's

:16:29. > :16:31.got some pretty ambitious whshes on her list. Richard Wilson, who

:16:32. > :16:35.famously played the grumpy `nd uncharitable Victor Meldrew, is one

:16:36. > :16:43.of Siobhan's favourite actors. She's always wanted to meet him. He is on

:16:44. > :16:46.the wish list. Today she sahd she couldn't believe it when he visited

:16:47. > :16:50.her at a hospice in Oldham. Today was the day Siobhan Wdlsh

:16:51. > :16:57.started to tick off targets on her life list. He has not just come to

:16:58. > :17:02.see me, I wanted him to see on my friends as well as the staff and

:17:03. > :17:08.volunteers at the hospice. H was nervous.

:17:09. > :17:15.And who wouldn't be? I don't believe it! It's a catchphrase Rich`rd

:17:16. > :17:18.Wilson says plagues him. But it was Siobhan Welsh who was left hn

:17:19. > :17:22.disbelief when one of the country's best loved actors came to sde her

:17:23. > :17:25.today. Hello. I am absolutely speechless. I cannot believd he has

:17:26. > :17:30.come all this way from London just to see me as well as my fridnds I

:17:31. > :17:36.cannot believe it. I am going to try and get him to say that. Siobhan

:17:37. > :17:39.resisted the temptation, probably wisely. She visits the day centre at

:17:40. > :17:43.Dr Kershaw's in Royton to sde friends. The hospice says it can't

:17:44. > :17:47.add days to your life, but they can add life to your days. Rich`rd

:17:48. > :17:55.Wilson was only too glad to help out. If someone who is clearly not

:17:56. > :17:58.in 100% how can they want to meet someone, it seems a very sm`ll thing

:17:59. > :18:02.to come and say hello. And it seems Siobhan's excitement

:18:03. > :18:07.has been building for days. We had to put up with her for thred days,

:18:08. > :18:14.all the nervousness and everything. She is absolutely over the loon

:18:15. > :18:22.This is the list for life and it is ambitious. She fancies the West and

:18:23. > :18:32.to catch a show. She has achieved meeting Richard Wilson. But what is

:18:33. > :18:36.next? Other than that Siobhan hasn't set

:18:37. > :18:40.herself a time limit, but as flying starts go, this is a good one.

:18:41. > :18:44.What a lovely man to do that. I am sure feeding a baby lamb can be

:18:45. > :18:52.organised for her. And we got to that whole piece about doing a bad

:18:53. > :18:59.and passion. `` bad impresshon. I have been to weaken today whth Mark

:19:00. > :19:05.the cameraman who has been ` mad keen Manchester City fan. How cool

:19:06. > :19:12.is that? History repeated itself yesterday. Wigan's victory hn last

:19:13. > :19:15.year's final against the might of Manchester City was remarkable. The

:19:16. > :19:18.Wigan manager, Uwe Rosler, believes yesterday's win on City's home turf

:19:19. > :19:24.was no less an achievement. The bookies couldn't see Wigan doing

:19:25. > :19:30.it again. The odds of them winning the Cup before this match: 040 to

:19:31. > :19:33.one. For City to lose once to a team that couldn't survive in thd Premier

:19:34. > :19:44.League last year might be rdgarded as a misfortune. Twice looks like

:19:45. > :19:51.carelessness. The City manager says his players underestimated Wigan.

:19:52. > :19:55.Jordi Gomez scored Wigan's first. James Perch made it two aftdr half

:19:56. > :19:59.time. Uwe Rosler was a hero here as a player. He returned as manager

:20:00. > :20:03.with a plan that Samir Nasrh's goal was unable to upset. When wd were

:20:04. > :20:07.sitting back and trying to defend and hoping for the best for my we

:20:08. > :20:12.had no chance. Our only chance was keeping the ball in dangerots areas,

:20:13. > :20:18.tight areas, and I admire the bravery and the composer th`t has

:20:19. > :20:25.been shown on the ball. The they have to overcome Arsenal,

:20:26. > :20:29.and after yesterday, who wotld bet against them? Not many people here.

:20:30. > :20:33.Edit play as well as they dhd yesterday, they are in with the

:20:34. > :20:41.chance. I think they believd in ourselves as well. I really do.

:20:42. > :20:45.Arsenal, a tough one. City was hard. But supporters here and the club's

:20:46. > :20:52.owner are agreed on Wigan's priority this season. That cop is so special,

:20:53. > :20:57.the oldest trophy in the whole world. We have to see the primary

:20:58. > :21:00.target is to get back into the career league.

:21:01. > :21:03.Rosler says this was the best moment of his managerial career. Whth

:21:04. > :21:06.promotion and the Cup still up for grabs, there may be even better

:21:07. > :21:11.moments to come. Let's hope so. And better moments

:21:12. > :21:15.for Manchester City too. If Wigan are to return to the Premier League,

:21:16. > :21:17.they'll probably have to do it through the playoffs. Burnldy

:21:18. > :21:21.tightened their grip on second place in the Championship yesterd`y with a

:21:22. > :21:26.2`1 win at Blackburn. Rovers scored first through Jordan Rhodes in the

:21:27. > :21:29.first half. After the break Ross Wallace's free kick was headed in by

:21:30. > :21:33.captain Jason Shackell. Then Danny Ings struck his 25th goal of the
