:03:34. > :03:37.goes on for hours and hours. But today's report did find progress is
:03:38. > :03:40.being made ` that staff are friendly and caring. The hospital saxs it's
:03:41. > :03:43.now recruited 30 out of 60 permanent nurses. And introduced dining
:03:44. > :03:50.companions to make sure pathents eat their meals. There's been htge
:03:51. > :03:52.change since I've been here. It s like chalk and cheese, from the very
:03:53. > :03:57.top all the way through the organisation. This is about getting
:03:58. > :04:01.nurses on the ground, filling the posts and recruitment, getthng
:04:02. > :04:07.people with the right skills in the right place. Most patients we spoke
:04:08. > :04:12.to today had only praise for their care. I were treated very, very
:04:13. > :04:17.quickly and properly with a yeale `` really first`class doctor. Xou can
:04:18. > :04:21.But it's the waiting which hs a long But it's the waiting which hs a long
:04:22. > :04:26.time. I'm waiting for one blood test. But making the changes the
:04:27. > :04:30.hospital needs costs money. Tameside is over ?4 million in debt. But its
:04:31. > :04:41.Chief Executive insists thex will happen. The interim Chief Executive
:04:42. > :04:48.used to be a nurse, so she's going back on to the wards on Monday.
:04:49. > :04:52.Earlier, I spoke to the Intdrim Chief Executive of Tameside Hospital
:04:53. > :04:57.Trust, Karen James, and I ptt to her that things hadn't improved since
:04:58. > :05:02.the last inspection. People who undertook the review have s`id
:05:03. > :05:06.patients, carers and staff were able to state that improvements have had
:05:07. > :05:10.delivered. They also found `` care delivered. They also found `` care
:05:11. > :05:14.that's delivered. They also found that staff are friendly and caring
:05:15. > :05:17.and that's really important, so at this point in time we are only five
:05:18. > :05:21.months through to our improvement programme and what we are doing is
:05:22. > :05:25.really having an impact. I know that myself, because I'm a nurse. I'm out
:05:26. > :05:32.talking to staff, patients `nd carers when I go to visit w`rds I
:05:33. > :05:37.am work ng on the wards, so I know what we are doing is changing
:05:38. > :05:41.things. Nevertheless ` But there are things. Positive improvements are
:05:42. > :05:48.good, but explain how a hospital still fails out of 11 national
:05:49. > :05:56.standards of care? There were minor and moderate concerns and that's
:05:57. > :06:01.what we expected. I wouldn't include patients not being treated with
:06:02. > :06:06.dignity as minor. I think there was one or two areas where they found
:06:07. > :06:10.that some of the nurses could have been or provided further
:06:11. > :06:13.personalised care and more individualised care to patidnts and
:06:14. > :06:15.where that had been highlighted we're dealing with those nurses
:06:16. > :06:19.directly. You've got a lot of directly. You've got a lot of
:06:20. > :06:22.changes to put through and xou have got improvements to make before the
:06:23. > :06:28.next inspection in May. But you haven't got any money. How will you
:06:29. > :06:32.put these changes through? We've put many changes in place already. We
:06:33. > :06:35.are just going to continue the programme. This is not about
:06:36. > :06:39.funding. This is about what we do to support our staff, to delivdr great
:06:40. > :06:43.care. That's what the local population deserves here. I have to
:06:44. > :06:49.say, we have moved on since the report. We have employed further
:06:50. > :06:51.employed at this organisation as employed at this organisation as
:06:52. > :06:55.well as further doctors. Those things have already happened. I
:06:56. > :07:03.expect further improvements to be acknowledged when the reviewers come

:07:46. > :07:46.e`mailed: "I have always fotnd the nursing staff and doctors extremely
:07:47. > :07:59.professional and caring." The mother of a schoolboy who was
:08:00. > :08:01.found hanged in his bedroom has told an inquest he was the victil
