:00:11. > :00:15.Good evening. A campaign to lower the age for

:00:16. > :00:18.cervical screening to 16, in memory of a teenager from Wirral, has

:00:19. > :00:22.become the most signed e`petition ever. The family of 19`year`old

:00:23. > :00:27.Sophie Jones from Eastham, who died last weekend, claim if she'd been

:00:28. > :00:29.tested it could have saved her. More than 310,000 people have signed the

:00:30. > :00:41.petition, three times the ntmber required to prompt a Commons debate

:00:42. > :00:45.on the subject. It's been more than 60 years since

:00:46. > :00:48.the end of the Korean war. Now associations formed to provhde

:00:49. > :00:51.support and a network of frhendship to those who were involved `re being

:00:52. > :00:55.wound up. Including one in Greater Manchester which, at one pohnt, was

:00:56. > :00:59.the largest of its kind. For a quarter of a century, Korean

:01:00. > :01:02.War veterans have held a melorial service at Christ Church in Bolton,

:01:03. > :01:06.a chance for men such as Brhan Hough to remember the role they played in

:01:07. > :01:16.the three year conflict. But this year will be the l`st time

:01:17. > :01:26.they'll congregate here. Our numbers have declined. We have

:01:27. > :01:30.lost a locked of people. `` a lot of people.

:01:31. > :01:33.The Greater Manchester Branch ` once the the largest in the country ` is

:01:34. > :01:36.disappearing, along with other branches. 60 years after thd

:01:37. > :01:41.conflict that killed 39 men in Greater Manchester and 1,100 British

:01:42. > :01:47.service personnel nationallx. We think that we did a proud thing

:01:48. > :01:53.by having this organisation. They would be very proud of what we have

:01:54. > :01:57.done. Each branch has said that they will carry on as a social group and

:01:58. > :02:01.they will meet every month whilst they are still able, they whll meet

:02:02. > :02:04.for lunch. Those memories of the forgotten war

:02:05. > :02:13.will be kept alive as friendships remain.

:02:14. > :02:16.People living in a flood prone Lancashire village are being given

:02:17. > :02:19.training to prevent a repeat of the deluge which cause major dalage two

:02:20. > :02:25.years ago. Croston was flooded twice in a matter of weeks over the summer

:02:26. > :02:28.of 2012. It's all hands to the pump.

:02:29. > :02:32.Croston's villagers have calpaigned for and now have been traindd how to

:02:33. > :02:35.use this high`volume pump to keep their homes dry.

:02:36. > :02:38.We've got it set at the minhmum speed at the moment.

:02:39. > :02:40.It has cost ?21,000. Croston Parish Council, the Environment Agdncy and

:02:41. > :02:48.Lancashire County Council contributed and this is why.

:02:49. > :02:54.Summer 2012, and more than 70 homes in Croston were flooded twice in a

:02:55. > :02:59.matter of weeks. The River Xarrow gets so full that rain backs up into

:03:00. > :03:02.streets and homes. Kath Almond is among those villagers who h`ve been

:03:03. > :03:05.trained to use the pump. When it gets to a certain ldvel the

:03:06. > :03:09.water can't get into the river, because the river is higher than the

:03:10. > :03:13.drains. That is when everything backs up.

:03:14. > :03:17.The pump will clear up excess water. It will be switched on at the first

:03:18. > :03:21.sign of flooding. But it is a temporary solution to the problems.

:03:22. > :03:26.A permanent solution would be a 600 metre long five metre high flood

:03:27. > :03:31.embankment built upstream. Ht will cost ?6 million, two million of

:03:32. > :03:36.which has yet to be found. Hf all goes well, construction will start

:03:37. > :03:40.in March next year. We are very glad to have thhs pump

:03:41. > :03:44.and it is an interim solution, but as glad as I will be to see it

:03:45. > :03:59.arriving in Croston, when the bigger solution arrives and the pulp can go

:04:00. > :04:02.away, I will be happier still. Over 8000 runners took to the

:04:03. > :04:05.streets of Liverpool today hn the city's half marathon. The event was

:04:06. > :04:08.celebrating its 21st anniversary this year and starting off the race

:04:09. > :04:13.was Liverpool manager Brend`n Rodgers.

:04:14. > :04:17.It is wonderful and it is stch a cold morning as well. But for all

:04:18. > :04:24.the people doing it, it is brilliant. I hurt my foot in a

:04:25. > :04:34.football game, so I could not run today, but I am here to support

:04:35. > :04:36.everyone and for our team. Preston's Laura Massaro has become

:04:37. > :04:39.world squash champion. The 30`year`old world number two beat

:04:40. > :04:43.seeded Egyptian Nour El Sherbini in the final in Malayasia. She's the

:04:44. > :04:52.first British woman to win the title in 15 years.

:04:53. > :04:55.A good day for the region's Super League teams Widnes edged a tight

:04:56. > :04:59.game at Hull FC, winning7`0. Salford Red Devils beat Castleford 23`1 at

:05:00. > :05:04.home and top of the table St Helens came away from Wakefield with a win.

:05:05. > :05:14.24`16. Now the weather with Kay Forster.

:05:15. > :05:20.We have had some sunshine this afternoon and the clouds have been

:05:21. > :05:27.fading away, thanks to this high pressure. We are entering into a dry

:05:28. > :05:35.night, and with the wind falling, it will be a cold night. Away from the

:05:36. > :05:40.coast, there will be a frost. Just about holding above freezing near

:05:41. > :05:45.the coast. Tomorrow, it will be a cold but right start with lots of

:05:46. > :05:50.sunshine. The cloud will increase from the West, and maybe sole rain

:05:51. > :05:55.from the Isle of Man. That dastern areas holding on to the dry and

:05:56. > :05:57.bright weather but feeling warmer, highs of ten or 11 Celsius.

:05:58. > :06:11.I will be back at 10:15pm. Goodbye. Hello. Following today's showers,

:06:12. > :06:16.tonight is going to be much colder. Clear skies, light winds, a recipe

:06:17. > :06:20.for a widespread frost. Sharp showers for the next couple of

:06:21. > :06:25.hours. From East Yorkshire to the south-east. Hail and thunder. Skies

:06:26. > :06:31.will clear across many areas. Temperatures tumbling across rural

:06:32. > :06:35.parts it could be as low as minus six. Not as cold across Northern

:06:36. > :06:36.Ireland and the far south-west. Increasing cloud ahead of the

:06:37. > :06:37.weather
