:00:34. > :00:37.discovering what is being done to stop the spread of a disastrous

:00:38. > :00:39.disease that is laying wastd to larch trees.

:00:40. > :00:48.United for City. Why five f`mous footballing former Reds are taking

:00:58. > :01:06.Liverpool to celebrate 50 ydars of the ship that rocked.

:01:07. > :01:09.Police are this evening continuing to question a nurse who's bden

:01:10. > :01:11.rearrested in connection with an investigation into the poisoning of

:01:12. > :01:16.patients at Stockport's main hospital. Victorino Chua was

:01:17. > :01:21.detained by officers at his home in the town early this morning. Police

:01:22. > :01:24.have been investigating the deaths of patients at Stepping Hill

:01:25. > :01:33.Hospital, whose drips were `llegedly contaminated in 2011.

:01:34. > :01:35.It was 6:30am this morning when officers from Greater Manchdster

:01:36. > :01:41.Police arrived at Victorino Chua's terraced house in Stockport. Quarter

:01:42. > :01:44.of an hour later Mr Chua was led from his home in to a waiting police

:01:45. > :01:47.van before being taken away to be interviewed. Mr Chua has bedn on

:01:48. > :01:51.bail since he was initially arrested in 2012. He was due to answdr his

:01:52. > :01:54.bail next week. But it's understood his re`arrest follows the elergence

:01:55. > :01:59.of new evidence in an investigation that's lasted for almost three

:02:00. > :02:12.years. Greater Manchester Police told us:

:02:13. > :02:17.Staff at Stepping Hill raisdd the alarm after noticing unexpl`ined low

:02:18. > :02:21.blood sugar levels in patients in the summer of 2011. Eight p`tients

:02:22. > :02:25.who were poisoned by contamhnated products later died. The de`ths of

:02:26. > :02:30.three of them, Tracey Arden, Alfred Weaver and Arnold Lancaster, are

:02:31. > :02:35.being treated as murder. Police say saline drips were contaminated with

:02:36. > :02:38.insulin at the hospital. Prhor to Mr Chua's arrest, nurse Rebecc`

:02:39. > :02:42.Leighton spent six months in prison before being cleared of poisoning

:02:43. > :02:46.patients at Stepping Hill. `` six weeks. All charges were dropped But

:02:47. > :02:48.she was sacked after admitthng stealing drugs from the hospital.

:02:49. > :02:52.Since 2011 additional securhty measures have been put in place here

:02:53. > :02:56.at Stepping Hill Hospital, `nd they are amongst the most stringdnt in

:02:57. > :02:59.the country. CCTV in most treatment rooms. Two nurses will now

:03:00. > :03:02.administer intravenous drugs and insulin to wards and security

:03:03. > :03:18.patrols will take place within the hospital grounds.

:03:19. > :03:25.A man who killed his mother and duster with an axe after behng sent

:03:26. > :03:31.home from a psychiatric hospital has been sentenced to life in prison ``

:03:32. > :03:34.mother and sister. John Jenkin attacked Alice McMeekin and Katie

:03:35. > :03:38.Jenkin at their home in Millom in Cumbria. Two days earlier hd had

:03:39. > :03:40.been sent home from a mental health unit following a suicide attempt. He

:03:41. > :03:44.will be detained for treatmdnt. An inquest in Kendal has he`rd how a

:03:45. > :03:47.man was swept away in the Rhver Rothay in Ambleside. The body of

:03:48. > :03:50.Simon Martindale, who was 48 and from Hest Bank in Lancashird, was

:03:51. > :03:54.found shortly afterwards floating in Windermere. The South Lakes coroner

:03:55. > :03:56.Ian Smith ruled his death w`s an accident.

:03:57. > :03:59.Police looking for 20`year old Matthew Jordan, who went missing in

:04:00. > :04:03.the Lake District, have called in an underwater search team. The student

:04:04. > :04:15.from Middlesbrough was last seen in Bowness early yesterday aftdr a

:04:16. > :04:22.night out with friends. The independent police complaints

:04:23. > :04:41.commission says it has recovered statements which it says have been

:04:42. > :04:44.altered. It's now known that 22 people are being treated as possible

:04:45. > :04:47.Warrington on Monday. An office at a Warrington btsiness

:04:48. > :04:52.park has been converted into a court. From Monday this is where

:04:53. > :04:56.evidence about how the 96 dhed will be heard by a High Court judge and a

:04:57. > :04:58.jury. The hearings could last until beyond Christmas. And the

:04:59. > :05:02.Hillsborough families know they ll have to sit through evidencd which

:05:03. > :05:06.will be hard to listen to. Ht is going to be a difficult timd. It

:05:07. > :05:09.could take 12 months. It cotld be longer. That is another long journey

:05:10. > :05:12.for the families. The inquests are one of three new investigathons into

:05:13. > :05:16.Hillsborough. Operation Resolve is looking into whether any crhmes were

:05:17. > :05:20.committed before the FA Cup semi final between Liverpool and

:05:21. > :05:22.Nottingham Forest. And the Independent Police Complaints

:05:23. > :05:27.Commission is investigating any alleged police misconduct after the

:05:28. > :05:29.event. Today the IPCC revealed it had found another eight polhce

:05:30. > :05:36.statements which had apparently been altered. It brings the total to 251.

:05:37. > :05:40.The IPCC has identified 13 officers as possible suspects. Operation

:05:41. > :05:48.Resolve has also identified 13 possible suspects, though four of

:05:49. > :05:51.these are also on the IPCC's list. That means 22 people, some police

:05:52. > :05:53.officers and some from other organisations, face investigation

:05:54. > :05:56.for a range of possible offdnces including possible manslaughter

:05:57. > :06:03.perverting the course of justice or misconduct in public office. The new

:06:04. > :06:06.inquests follow the findings of the Hillsborough Independent Panel in

:06:07. > :06:12.2012 about events before and after the disaster.

:06:13. > :06:19.Andy joins us in the studio now What can we expect on the fhrst day

:06:20. > :06:24.of the new inquests? In terls of evidence, very little, almost

:06:25. > :06:28.nothing. The coroner will sdlect a jury from a panel of about 050

:06:29. > :06:34.people who have to be able to commit to a year to set on this inpuest

:06:35. > :06:38.jury. The jury will want to know these people do not have anx

:06:39. > :06:44.football or emergency services connections which could possibly

:06:45. > :06:47.make them biased. Even if Monday is a housekeeping nuts and bolts day,

:06:48. > :06:52.it is still a really signifhcant moment for their families. The

:06:53. > :06:57.original inquests returned verdicts of accidental death. That is

:06:58. > :07:03.something the families want re`examined and Monday is when that

:07:04. > :07:17.process finally begins for them On this week's Sunday Polithcs, we

:07:18. > :07:20.will be looking at that. Coronation Street actress B`rbara

:07:21. > :07:23.Knox has been arrested for drink`driving. The 80`year`old, who

:07:24. > :07:26.plays Rita Tanner in the ITV soap, was held at her local policd station

:07:27. > :07:28.in Knutsford. Cheshire Police say she was bailed pending further

:07:29. > :07:31.inquires. Work on the Second Mersey Crossing

:07:32. > :07:34.at Runcorn will begin next lonth. Halton Council and the consortium

:07:35. > :07:37.behind the project say they've managed to make savings of ?250

:07:38. > :07:43.million on the original 30 xear construction and maintenancd budget

:07:44. > :07:47.of ?2 billion. The bridge should be completed by autumn 2017.

:07:48. > :07:48.Chester Zoo has released im`ges of its new ?30 million "Islands"

:07:49. > :07:55.project. the biggest in UK zoo history, will

:07:56. > :07:58.be completed next year. Vishtors will be able to tour islands which

:07:59. > :08:01.replicate the landscapes of South East Asia, providing a home to

:08:02. > :08:14.creatures including Sumatran tigers, orangutans and crocodiles. @round

:08:15. > :08:17.13,000 tenants are in rent `rrears after changes to housing benefit

:08:18. > :08:24.wrote in a year ago. 12 of the region's councils answered ` Freedom

:08:25. > :08:29.of Information request about the removal of the spare room stbsidy,

:08:30. > :08:33.also known as the bedroom stbsidy. The government says it saves ?1

:08:34. > :08:37.million a day but there are concerns there are not enough smaller homes

:08:38. > :08:42.for people to move into. Peter has big plans for this room.

:08:43. > :08:46.He wants to turn it into a study for the college course he hopes will get

:08:47. > :08:55.him a job. But at the moment, it's just costing him money. If H used

:08:56. > :09:01.?10 of gas, I have cut that down to about ?5. He says he'd happhly move

:09:02. > :09:07.into a one bedroom flat if one could be found. There is a lot more chance

:09:08. > :09:10.of finding Lord Lucan than ` one bedroom. Peter's not the only one

:09:11. > :09:13.finding life tough. The northwest councils and housing associ`tions

:09:14. > :09:17.who replied to the BBC survdy had around 13,000 housing tenants in

:09:18. > :09:22.rent arrears for the first time Of those, about 10% have been hssued

:09:23. > :09:26.with eviction notices. Lyn lives just

:09:27. > :09:29.and from Liverpool Football Club. She's starting a business hdlping

:09:30. > :09:33.people rent their extra rool to football fans. A business which she

:09:34. > :09:39.also hopes will help her off benefits. Helping people is one

:09:40. > :09:45.thing. Forcing them is quitd another. When you are at rock

:09:46. > :09:49.bottom, you have to feel yot have choices. If you are forced to do

:09:50. > :09:55.something that can destroy people's lives. More home improvements, this

:09:56. > :09:58.time on a grand scale. This housing association owns 7,500 propdrties in

:09:59. > :10:00.Greater Manchester. They're currently converting dated bedsits

:10:01. > :10:03.into swanky one bedroom apartments. Unsurprisingly, they say thdy're

:10:04. > :10:06.being snapped up. The chief exec says something did need to be done

:10:07. > :10:11.about housing benefits, but not this. There had to be changd. It is

:10:12. > :10:13.about how you do that. To introduce a piece of legislation

:10:14. > :10:19.retrospectively that does not give people any notice of these financial

:10:20. > :10:23.problems, educational probldms, emotional problems, and it does not

:10:24. > :10:27.save any money. It is wrong. So a year on from the changes, plenty of

:10:28. > :10:31.hopes, but plenty of fears too. Earlier I spoke to the Wirr`l West

:10:32. > :10:35.Conservative MP Esther McVex who is also employment minister. And I

:10:36. > :10:47.asked her whether there are enough houses to go round. What we have

:10:48. > :10:54.seen is things like the Kent properties `` there is not vacant

:10:55. > :10:59.properties but we know therd are things on a home swaps, two

:11:00. > :11:05.bedrooms, people staring thdy would like to swap and downsize, so we are

:11:06. > :11:11.going to work with those thhngs In the meantime, they are having to pay

:11:12. > :11:15.money they can ill afford to pay. The houses are not there for them to

:11:16. > :11:23.move into. That is not what we are seeing. You have missed your target

:11:24. > :11:29.massively. Now, because that was over the duration of the parliament,

:11:30. > :11:34.so we are on course. The bigger issue, you have 1.7 million people

:11:35. > :11:48.on waiting lists who cannot get a house of the size they needful is.

:11:49. > :11:59.Still to come: we are at Salford to see what my index and the boys have

:12:00. > :12:02.bought into `` Ryan Giggs. This is Radio Caroline on 189,

:12:03. > :12:05.England's first commercial radio station. 50 years since the ship

:12:06. > :12:06.that rocked, Radio Caroline is reborn, and drops anchor in

:12:07. > :12:10.Liverpool. Thousands of larch trees ard being

:12:11. > :12:13.felled across Cumbria in a bid to try and stop the spread of ` deadly

:12:14. > :12:17.fungus that's attacking the species. Foresters say it's the only way of

:12:18. > :12:31.bringing the so called P. R`morum disease under control. But trees

:12:32. > :12:37.weren't its first target. I am at a country park and this

:12:38. > :12:42.whole area was once awash whth rhododendrons which had been here

:12:43. > :12:48.for more than 100 years. Thdy have been uprooted because they were

:12:49. > :12:51.infected. The disease startdd in rhododendrons and went to l`rch The

:12:52. > :12:57.larch trees have been coming under attack.

:12:58. > :13:02.If you go down to the woods in Cumbria, you are likely to see

:13:03. > :13:06.this. Thousands of larch have been felled as they try to stop the

:13:07. > :13:12.spread of a destructive disdase We do not know yet what the extent of

:13:13. > :13:25.the disease is going to be. We are dealing with it as it arises. P

:13:26. > :13:29.Ramorum was first spotted in 20 2 at which point people thought ht was

:13:30. > :13:34.only affecting rhododendrons, but then it was realised it was killing

:13:35. > :13:38.larch trees. It was first spotted in the south`west of England btt it has

:13:39. > :13:48.spread up the West Coast through Wales into Cumbria and southern

:13:49. > :13:53.Scotland. The forest that H`wkshead as 22,000 visitors a year. The past

:13:54. > :14:02.six weeks, they have held around 6000 larch. We read plant as

:14:03. > :14:05.sustainable management. The impact of the disease means that wd are

:14:06. > :14:12.selling some of the trees wd would not have done otherwise. Up to

:14:13. > :14:16.150,000 trees could be affected We identified a number of trees that

:14:17. > :14:23.could be affected. We are sdlling a buffer zone at least 100 metres The

:14:24. > :14:30.evidence is that most of those trees will have been infected. Evdn as the

:14:31. > :14:37.Felling continues they are looking to the future with optimism. Because

:14:38. > :14:40.of the way we manage the forest already trees are growing underneath

:14:41. > :14:51.the larch trees, so for exalple here we have Hawthorne which is puite

:14:52. > :14:58.well`established and lovely holly. As more larch disappears, the look

:14:59. > :15:02.of the wood is going to change. It will be different, but it is

:15:03. > :15:07.wonderful woodland. You are going to have to have a new look herd. You

:15:08. > :15:12.are from The National Trust. What are you going to do? At the moment,

:15:13. > :15:18.grass it over and read profhle it because we have to be careftl what

:15:19. > :15:21.we plant with because a lot of shrub species are susceptible and you

:15:22. > :15:27.cannot plant into ground whhch has been impacted by this. The park is

:15:28. > :15:34.still open. There is no danger to the public. That is an important

:15:35. > :15:41.message. We are open for business. The disease is not an issue for

:15:42. > :15:47.humans or dogs or anything dlse You have a lot of land with a lot of

:15:48. > :16:00.larch trees. What is happenhng? You are presumably having to sell them?

:16:01. > :16:07.`` fell them? Yes. Do you think you are going to get on top of ht? As a

:16:08. > :16:11.nation, all foresters are trying to keep on top of the disease but it is

:16:12. > :16:15.questionable whether larch has a future in the landscape. Thdre might

:16:16. > :16:25.not be any larch in the next ten or 15 years? You do wonder how it is

:16:26. > :16:37.going to third in the futurd. The changing face of our countrxside.

:16:38. > :16:44.Yesterday at the highest levels of the BBC, you're 31 years were

:16:45. > :16:57.recognised with an award. Congratulations. Thank you. I joined

:16:58. > :17:08.the BBC when I was 12! And he is not even 40. The same evidence there was

:17:09. > :17:11.an award for the best sports journalist, and years. `` hdre he

:17:12. > :17:14.is. Sport now, and ex Manchester United

:17:15. > :17:17.stars Scholes, Giggs, Butt `nd the Neville brothers have bought a

:17:18. > :17:21.football club, which you'll no doubt be talking about Richard. Btt

:17:22. > :17:24.probably the Championship m`tch of the season first of all. Yes,

:17:25. > :17:29.Burnley, who're second, takd on leaders Leicester at Turf Moor. The

:17:30. > :17:33.Clarets could go to the top of the table if they come away with a big

:17:34. > :17:37.win. And if we look at the table you can see just how significant this

:17:38. > :17:40.match is. The top two are in great form. The visitors are undefeated in

:17:41. > :17:45.their last 18 matches. The Clarets are on a run of 16 games without

:17:46. > :17:50.defeat, a run built one gamd at a time.

:17:51. > :18:00.One of football's most familiar mantras, take one game at a time. It

:18:01. > :18:04.is gospel here. Top of the table. It is a bigger challenge. It is about

:18:05. > :18:11.the next game and getting three points. They are unbeaten at home

:18:12. > :18:25.all season and are on great form. It has been a magnificent reason for

:18:26. > :18:30.burn my. `` Burnley. Last nhght many were talking about the promhsed land

:18:31. > :18:42.of the Premier League. Brilliant. Happy. Do you

:18:43. > :18:45.win promotion? Definitely. The Chief Executive. It is a whole different

:18:46. > :18:51.ball game going up to the ndxt level in the Premier League. We nded to

:18:52. > :19:00.compete as well as we can. Do not put the club in danger. The manager.

:19:01. > :19:04.I have been round the block, so to speak. I have only ever known

:19:05. > :19:18.football since I was extremd and I know you cannot take it for granted.

:19:19. > :19:22.`` since I was 16. The titld, not just promotion is the talk on the

:19:23. > :19:26.terraces, and why not? The boss will make sure his players get to the

:19:27. > :19:30.message that has brought thdm so close to a top`flight return.

:19:31. > :19:38.And there's full commentary of that match on BBC Radio Lancashire with

:19:39. > :19:40.kick off at 12:15pm. The Football Association has
