:00:15. > :00:16.after baby Luke died from the injuries he suffered at birth.

:00:17. > :00:18.The Inquest into his death heard it was hours before doctors intervened.

:00:19. > :00:21.Also tonight. A shocking night for the North West

:00:22. > :00:23.as lightning hits a number of homes in a violent storm.

:00:24. > :00:26.Slipping into history. The campaign to save

:00:27. > :00:29.a waterfront access, threatened with closure after centuries of use.

:00:30. > :01:55.An inquest has started in Bolton into the death

:01:56. > :01:57.contractions and put her trust and faith into the hands of medical

:01:58. > :02:03.professionals. She was advised everything was going well and she

:02:04. > :02:09.would soon be holding a baby in her arms but that was not to be the

:02:10. > :02:14.case. He was just three months old when he suffered a cardiac arrest

:02:15. > :02:18.because of problems from the birth. His mother told the inquest she had

:02:19. > :02:25.been assured everything was going well during her Labour but 15 hours

:02:26. > :02:33.later the baby was delivered with multiple fractures to his skull and

:02:34. > :02:38.brain damage. We need to hear the information and facts so we know

:02:39. > :02:46.exactly what happened on the day he was born and on the day he died. The

:02:47. > :02:53.inquest heard the head of the baby must have been wedged into his

:02:54. > :02:58.mother's pelvis at some point during the labour. He was eventually

:02:59. > :03:05.delivered by these alien. His parents were told he was dead but 20

:03:06. > :03:18.minutes later they were told he was alive. `` delivered by Slovenian

:03:19. > :03:26.section. The lessons to be learned will be too late for this baby and

:03:27. > :03:32.his parents. He was my little boy, we loved him dearly and our dreams

:03:33. > :03:39.are completely shattered. He was beautifully bright, he was

:03:40. > :03:46.adorable, he knew he was laughed. Following his traumatic birth, Luke

:03:47. > :03:51.was taken to hospital at Stoke. His parents had him christened at 3am

:03:52. > :03:56.because they did not think he would make it through the night. Later he

:03:57. > :04:03.was sent home and his parents raised the issue of treating him in his

:04:04. > :04:18.short life. They were given just 30 minutes of training on how to deal

:04:19. > :04:27.with him and his complex needs. The Julie at the Hillsborough inquest

:04:28. > :04:41.has been told the tails about how the 96 people died in 1989. The fans

:04:42. > :04:46.were only given half of the turn take `` turnstiles compared with the

:04:47. > :04:53.Nottingham Forest side. Tell others more about the video that was

:04:54. > :04:56.shown. The Julie have been hearing evidence from a senior police

:04:57. > :05:08.officer about uncontentious matters. There has been talked about

:05:09. > :05:30.the layout of the ground which is important because the Julie will go

:05:31. > :05:37.to the ground. The image that was shown had no fans in it. On the day

:05:38. > :05:45.itself the area would have been full of thousands of fans. We are still

:05:46. > :05:51.watching it at the moment as the fans would have walked down the

:05:52. > :06:00.tunnel into the pens. Explain to us what else was heard today. There

:06:01. > :06:06.were a lot of images of maps, still photographs and video. One thing was

:06:07. > :06:17.the location of the police control box and also some views from there.

:06:18. > :06:23.What they would see was not necessarily a good representation of

:06:24. > :06:29.what would be seen by the naked eye. There have been 7,000 still images

:06:30. > :06:35.and clips of video. Liverpool fans were allocated less than half of the

:06:36. > :06:51.turnstiles that the Nottingham Forest fans were allocated. The man

:06:52. > :06:59.from this region has died in Malaga after struggling in the sea. The

:07:00. > :07:07.former SCS sniper from who has lost his latest appeal against conviction

:07:08. > :07:15.for possessing a gun and ammunition. A 15`year`old girl is to appear in

:07:16. > :07:20.court on a charge of arson. A firefighter was killed as he was

:07:21. > :07:26.dealing with the blaze in the city centre in July. 13 beaches in the

:07:27. > :07:41.north`west have been given Seaside awards by the keep Britain tidy

:07:42. > :07:46.group. A plane heading to the isle of man and several properties were

:07:47. > :07:52.struck by lightning last night as a sudden storm hit parts of the will

:07:53. > :08:00.and North Cheshire. Those caught up in it were today counting the cost

:08:01. > :08:09.of damage in their homes. It is a night some will remember for a long

:08:10. > :08:19.night to come. It was all white, it didn't my eyes. The noise just

:08:20. > :08:28.flashed through the house. This is Birkenhead, the lightning came to if

:08:29. > :08:37.in this street through the aerial in number seven. It was mad. The

:08:38. > :08:42.lightning struck that the real originally but then it bounced

:08:43. > :08:49.across the street hitting the house is on the other side. This man

:08:50. > :08:56.snapped the lightning from his front room window without realising what

:08:57. > :09:04.would still,. There was this terrific crash. I flew off my chair,

:09:05. > :09:11.my phone was off and I was just in shock. This bungle came off far

:09:12. > :09:20.worse, a ball struck the roof causing extensive damage. The owner

:09:21. > :09:25.was not in neighbour saw the damage. Everybody was screaming and

:09:26. > :09:33.went out. The smoke was coming out of the house and everything was on

:09:34. > :09:39.fire. The graphic images were shot by an amateur film`maker who decided

:09:40. > :09:47.to venture out to record the scene near his home. It sounded like lots

:09:48. > :09:56.of explosions going off. It shot me backwards. Others were also busy

:09:57. > :10:15.with their cameras capturing mother nature at her most awesome.

:10:16. > :10:23.Spectacular. Just to confirm. The pictures you were seeing and the

:10:24. > :10:30.sound were the actual sounds of the thunder and lightning. In case you

:10:31. > :10:37.did not know, it is just two days until the European and local

:10:38. > :10:43.elections. There is no shortage of choice, 11 parties are standing in

:10:44. > :10:56.the region, let's catch up with some of the candidates with our political

:10:57. > :11:04.editor. The main message is that we are different from UKIP. We are

:11:05. > :11:12.about real people. I come from the area and a manufacturing base in

:11:13. > :11:20.small business. I have a feel for people and the things that we need

:11:21. > :11:27.in the area. We want to be the voice for England. We want to transfer

:11:28. > :11:34.that voice to Europe to say the UK is four different nations. As the

:11:35. > :11:45.voice of England we want to say what is not good for England in Europe.

:11:46. > :11:51.We are offering a voice in the EU for working`class people, to explore

:11:52. > :11:56.the nature of the EU, its attacks on worker's lives and on health and

:11:57. > :12:06.safety legislation, nor one else is doing that at this moment in time.

:12:07. > :12:14.`` no one else. In the Northwest we have seen many job losses, libraries

:12:15. > :12:30.closed, public services reduced, this is an agenda being carried out

:12:31. > :12:36.throughout Europe. We are not left or right or anarchists. We just use

:12:37. > :12:43.common sense to protect citizens rights and to do that we need an

:12:44. > :12:54.open Internet and transparency in government. You are nothing to do

:12:55. > :13:04.with those men on the high seas? We occasionally drink from but that is

:13:05. > :13:13.about it. Thursday is polling day, you can look at our website for

:13:14. > :13:19.more. Still to come on this evening's programme. The local

:13:20. > :13:24.tropicals. How our great, great grand parents found out what was

:13:25. > :13:29.happening where they live. And the icing on his cake, I have feeling

:13:30. > :13:38.unloved could the Manchester city start to the verge of quitting?

:13:39. > :13:44.There is reliable access to the river Mersey, in more recent times

:13:45. > :13:49.hundreds of boat owners have used the slipway but now that is under

:13:50. > :13:59.threat. There will be a warehouse built their which will service wind

:14:00. > :14:04.farms off of the costs. Tour operators say this is a popular

:14:05. > :14:11.stretch of water for fishing and sightseeing trips. The only access

:14:12. > :14:16.slipway is this one that is not affected by the tide. There have

:14:17. > :14:24.been plans submitted to build a service centre on the car park which

:14:25. > :14:31.would close access to the public. One tour operator has just agreed to

:14:32. > :14:37.speak to us but he has customers and is out on a fishing trip. We are

:14:38. > :14:47.just off to meet him. Gary Flint says that if the berry is closed to

:14:48. > :14:54.the public it would badly affect his business. We are tidal, if we have

:14:55. > :15:00.passengers out with us who want to get off, that is the only point

:15:01. > :15:18.within 60 miles we can drop them off. The company who have submitted

:15:19. > :15:29.the plans say they are relying on the planning authority to make due

:15:30. > :15:35.consideration. I do not believe it is possible to develop the car park

:15:36. > :15:49.and for people to have 24`hour access to the Mersey. The operators

:15:50. > :15:55.say the slipway has been used for 700 years and they do not see why

:15:56. > :16:02.they should need to stop now. A Lancashire farming business says its

:16:03. > :16:12.expansion plans are being held back. It is struggling to find

:16:13. > :16:17.people with the right skills to cut meat in the traditional way. Our

:16:18. > :16:26.reporter went to meet the two brothers who set the business up. It

:16:27. > :16:30.is a living teaching resource for these children learning about

:16:31. > :16:39.sustainable farming. The family business was set up two years ago

:16:40. > :16:47.but is set for a turnover of ?2 million this year. We teach decent

:16:48. > :16:58.butchering skills. His dad is the head tutor. We have used kites and

:16:59. > :17:06.paper fillings to show how you would fill sausage skin with sausage meat.

:17:07. > :17:11.So far so good a thriving business. It is here at the cutting warehouse

:17:12. > :17:20.by miles away that the expansion plans have hit the offer. Not enough

:17:21. > :17:27.people want to put on these to work in there. The head butcher leads a

:17:28. > :17:32.team of 20. Getting the work done is our problem at the minute, finding

:17:33. > :17:39.traditional butchers who have the skill. The average age of the

:17:40. > :17:45.butcher is now the three. People do not see butchering as a sexy

:17:46. > :17:55.industry. Long working hours and poor day. It is a real opportunity

:17:56. > :18:00.for young people to take on. The hope is that these young people will

:18:01. > :18:06.be inspired to make real sausages when they choose a career. 100 years

:18:07. > :18:14.ago local news was very different to what we have now. Most people found

:18:15. > :18:20.the news in their local newspaper but some enterprising cinema owners

:18:21. > :18:26.made local tropicals to the big film started. These gave a great insight

:18:27. > :18:32.into how our great grandparents might have left. The archive from

:18:33. > :18:43.the First World War has now been made public. April 1916, the whole

:18:44. > :18:50.of Preston, it seems, it turned out to welcome home a hero. He had been

:18:51. > :18:56.awarded the Victorian cross for conspicuous bravery. He had been

:18:57. > :19:02.caught in a gas attack on the Western front. As he is driven past

:19:03. > :19:07.the camera you can see him coughing into a handkerchief. Four weeks

:19:08. > :19:14.after this civic reception he died while being treated for his wounds.

:19:15. > :19:19.This is footage of the famous regiment. The Northwest film archive

:19:20. > :19:27.has a valuable collection of films from this time. Who made these

:19:28. > :19:32.films? They were made for or by local cinema owners. They were for a

:19:33. > :19:39.cameraman to go out and record events. In these cases it was men

:19:40. > :19:45.training in troops or leaving to go to war. The films show the home

:19:46. > :19:55.front, not just men in uniform but the life they left behind. This is

:19:56. > :20:03.Stockport market in 1910. One young man stops to look out at us from

:20:04. > :20:08.another world and time. German shops wrecked by rioters in Liverpool

:20:09. > :20:16.after the U`boat sunk a liner in 1915. Prisoners of war being taken

:20:17. > :20:30.into captivity. It is thought these pictures were shot near Wigan. Here,

:20:31. > :20:39.Lancashire Fusiliers marched through the area and although the place has

:20:40. > :20:45.changed, you can still retrace their steps. Most of them would have been

:20:46. > :20:53.sent off as reinforcement to battalions and later to the Western

:20:54. > :20:57.front. I suspect some people will recognise family members from

:20:58. > :21:29.photographs or these films. I suspect

:21:30. > :21:45.something is missing. Manchester City's Yaya thinks they did not make

:21:46. > :23:05.enough of his 31st birthday. He might be

:23:06. > :23:26.like a birthday cake. Is he even awake? His agent says the snob

:23:27. > :23:54.actually came from the club's owners. Is it a overreaction? It is

:23:55. > :24:11.interesting from a psychology point of view, I think it is about

:24:12. > :24:32.cross`cultural differences. His fans on twitter made a big deal. They

:24:33. > :24:42.invited him for cake. But his agent was not laughing. Some others got a

:24:43. > :24:50.cake or a car. This afternoon Yaya stepped into the road and says it is

:24:51. > :24:58.all true but he will see more after the World Cup. Just to be nice. For

:24:59. > :25:06.the fans, the club, everybody, we all love you, do not go. We beat a

:25:07. > :25:20.cake today but the club would not let as drop it off. Ever mind, happy

:25:21. > :25:28.birthday Yaya. A better day tomorrow. The sun is up at five

:25:29. > :25:33.o'clock. That is really the predominant feature of the weather.

:25:34. > :25:41.The patchy cloud will take over every now and then but realistically

:25:42. > :25:49.it is a good day. There is a shower but it is on the Pennines. Most

:25:50. > :25:59.places should be dried but with light winds coming from the south it

:26:00. > :26:08.will look good and feel good out and about. Today temperatures got to 20

:26:09. > :26:15.and 21, tomorrow 19 is the maximum. Need the most of that day because

:26:16. > :26:23.everything changes going through Thursday. Thursday will be a fairly

:26:24. > :26:28.wet day. Can we not tempt you? Cake from the pavement? I know what you

:26:29. > :26:50.mean. It does not sound that Some people don't think real change

:26:51. > :26:55.in Europe is possible. Some people don't think real change

:26:56. > :26:58.is necessary. Some people don't think

:26:59. > :27:02.it's worth fighting for. But we want to make Europe work

:27:03. > :27:05.for Britain, and give you the final say

:27:06. > :27:10.with an in-out referendum in 2017. have made Britain's economy

:27:11. > :27:15.stronger and more competitive. a record number of people in work.

:27:16. > :27:21.And we're predicted to be the fastest-growing economy

:27:22. > :27:25.in the G7 this year.
