:00:30. > :00:32.Roy Taylor loves the outdoors but since being diagnosed with motor

:00:42. > :00:46.Today he began the Trans Pennine trail in Southport to highlight the
:00:47. > :00:49.issue. Stuart Pollitt reports. With more than 200 miles ahead, the
:00:50. > :00:54.Trans Pennine trail is a tough challenge for any walker. But how
:00:55. > :00:58.hard is it for those in wheelchairs? Roy Taylor's about to find out over
:00:59. > :01:01.the next week. In September last year, I was diagnosed with motor
:01:02. > :01:05.neurone disease. Suddenly you go from an able`bodied person who loves
:01:06. > :01:09.the outdoors to someone sat in a wheelchair. And what you discover,

:01:15. > :01:17.yesterday are not today. We do not know what we are going to find
:01:18. > :01:21.because we have probably recced a third of it. Just a few miles into
:01:22. > :01:25.the trail is this footpath. It might seem quite narrow but Roy says his
:01:26. > :01:33.four`wheel drive wheelchair can get through here. The problem is getting
:01:34. > :01:37.to it. No, not going through that. I just cannot physically get onto it.
:01:38. > :01:43.It is the access points, the entry points on the footpaths, which
:01:44. > :01:46.prevent access into the countryside. The Trans Pennine Trail central
:01:47. > :01:49.office says it wants to remove access barriers like this but has no
:01:50. > :01:55.power to force local authorities to do so. All we are campaigning for is
:01:56. > :01:57.for the man`made obstructions to be made user`friendly for the disabled
:01:58. > :02:06.people, whether it means self`closing gates or gates that
