:00:00. > :00:48.we Good tonight: Reaction to the death

:00:49. > :00:54.of Malcolm Glazer. And we hear from residents of one street who see

:00:55. > :01:14.workmen who appeared their street have only done half a job.

:01:15. > :01:19.Meehan. Our top story: This man was beaten to death by his

:01:20. > :01:21.housemate and buried in their Ellesmere Port backyard, now his

:01:22. > :01:39.killer is finally brought to justice.

:01:40. > :01:40.When Christophe Borgye went missing,

:01:41. > :01:44.his neighbours in Ellesmere Port were told he'd gone away. In fact,

:01:45. > :01:48.he'd been murdered, his remains buried in what police describe as a

:01:49. > :01:51.tomb in his own back yard. One of his killers finally told the police

:01:52. > :01:54.about it years after the crime. Two men have been convicted of murder.

:01:55. > :01:57.Stuart Flinders reports. For four years the residents of an

:01:58. > :02:00.estate in Cheshire knew nothing of the crime committed in their midst,

:02:01. > :02:03.of the body hidden in their neighbourhood. Sebastien Bendou kept

:02:04. > :02:10.a guilty secret until he could no longer cope. Bendou and Christophe

:02:11. > :02:12.Borgye, both of them French, were housemates. But the man across the

:02:13. > :02:15.road, another Frenchman, Domink Kocher, had a strange influence on

:02:16. > :02:22.the household. The precise motive for the killing is unclear, but

:02:23. > :02:28.Bendou a paranoid schizophrenic claimed Kocher had convinced him

:02:29. > :02:33.Christophe Borgye, a flight attendant, was a French spy and that

:02:34. > :02:37.they'd had been ordered to kill him by the Americans. Armed with a claw

:02:38. > :02:43.hammer and knives bought for the purpose from ASDA, Bendou and Kocher

:02:44. > :02:51.attacked their victim in the kitchen before burying him in the outhouse.

:02:52. > :02:53.The weapons were buried with him. The next door neighbours suspected

:02:54. > :02:58.nothing. A statement from Christophe Borgye's family is read by a police

:02:59. > :03:37.officer. Kocher has been given a life sentence. Bendou will be

:03:38. > :03:45.sentenced later this year. When Malcolm Glazer took over

:03:46. > :04:11.Manchester United in 2005, fans protested in the street, and

:04:12. > :04:43.ultimately formed a breakaway football club. But during his time

:04:44. > :04:47.in charge, the club has won five premier league titles and the

:04:48. > :04:51.Champions' League. As you'll know, the

:04:52. > :04:57.controversial 85`year`old American billionaire died last night in

:04:58. > :05:01.Florida. Today the flag was flying at half mast outside Old Trafford.

:05:02. > :05:04.Paresh Patel is there for us now. Self made billionaire Malcolm Glazer

:05:05. > :05:06.divided opinion on either side of Atlantic. Controversial in

:05:07. > :05:09.Manchester, hero in Florida. In 1995 Glazer bought the Tampa Bay

:05:10. > :05:12.Buccaneers and guided them to their first ever super bowl title. He also

:05:13. > :05:23.supported local charities and community projects. Today news of

:05:24. > :05:27.his death hit the town hard. Clip But Malcolm Glazer will be

:05:28. > :05:29.remembered less fondly by some in Manchester. United fans protested

:05:30. > :05:42.against his controversial takeover of their club in May 2005. The

:05:43. > :06:05.Glazers paid ?790 million. ?790 under the Glazers United did win 5

:06:06. > :06:17.Premier League titles and the Champions League. The club says his

:06:18. > :06:25.death is not expected to have any significant effect on their future

:06:26. > :06:30.operations and that the thoughts of everyone at the club are with his

:06:31. > :06:50.family. An inspection of Haverigg Prison in

:06:51. > :07:01.death is not expected to have any significant effect on their future

:07:02. > :07:09.operations and that the thoughts of everyone at the club are with his

:07:10. > :07:22.His six children remain in control of Manchester United but the club

:07:23. > :07:35.said they will not influence of Manchester United but the club

:07:36. > :08:01.said they will not Warrington hospital dismissed two of its staff

:08:02. > :08:25.after a patient was given the wrong blood type. Police investigating a

:08:26. > :08:37.murder in north Liverpool have made an arrest. The 43`year`old died of

:08:38. > :08:40.multiple stab wounds. Detectives are questioning a 53`year`old man on

:08:41. > :10:36.suspicion of murder. things I will tell you about

:10:37. > :10:44.quickly. The tunnel that lead into pens three and four was steeper than

:10:45. > :10:50.it should have been according to guidelines. The guidelines are ideal

:10:51. > :10:57.but there was a one in ten gradient. We were also told about the crash

:10:58. > :11:06.barrier inside pens three and four. We are told that the one that failed

:11:07. > :11:15.at the disaster was dated from the 1930s. Thank you. Animal rights

:11:16. > :11:23.protesters were outside all the Manchester is today demanding higher

:11:24. > :11:31.prison sentence for a man who allowed his dog to become so

:11:32. > :11:42.emaciated it had to be put down. He had the present sentence and was

:11:43. > :11:57.banned for keeping animals for life after being convicted of a string of

:11:58. > :12:04.animal cruelty charges. The report is disturbing. Justice is what they

:12:05. > :12:11.called for. They are disappointed with the outcome. After delivering a

:12:12. > :12:18.petition containing 30,000 signatures, these protesters hoped

:12:19. > :12:23.even low would receive a massive `` maximum sentence of many months.

:12:24. > :12:26.Judges should give out maximum sentences. This is how hit the dog

:12:27. > :13:07.look when it was discovered last campaign and plan another petition.

:13:08. > :13:13.Some offsetting energies there. Diana will be here for this fill

:13:14. > :13:36.weather forecast and also... How big is your television?

:13:37. > :13:44.And a tale of tarmac walls. When the last tyre rolled off the

:13:45. > :13:52.production line in the factory 12 years ago the impact was felt in the

:13:53. > :14:14.town. But now the derelict site where wine instead has had some

:14:15. > :14:24.funding. We manufacture items for aid of space. `` Aerospace. This

:14:25. > :14:32.machine is cutting this aluminium to make tools. It is one of the first

:14:33. > :14:44.businesses to move into innovation. The dream by this too one day be an

:14:45. > :14:50.Aerospace village. To create up to over 500 jobs. So far there is only

:14:51. > :14:56.one business on a side, who else is going to come? We have 60,000 square

:14:57. > :15:07.feet and we have a fire there 35,000 feet let to a local company. This

:15:08. > :15:14.site was once home to the tyre manufacturer Michelin. 12 years on,

:15:15. > :15:25.didn't this site eBay and is for a greater future? It was a huge blow.

:15:26. > :15:40.To have this company opening and already starting to take on local

:15:41. > :15:44.people is amazing. It is hoped to businesses like this will help

:15:45. > :15:54.Burnley take off in the right direction.

:15:55. > :16:00.100 years ago today, one of their worst maritime disasters took place.

:16:01. > :16:06.This passenger ship was on its way home to Liverpool when it sank in

:16:07. > :16:13.the Saint Lawrence River and Canada. The tragedy is barely remembered.

:16:14. > :16:22.Today there was a special men oil service. It was a Canadian Pacific

:16:23. > :16:29.Lane ship carrying immigrants. Stanley Baker was a 15`year`old Del

:16:30. > :16:33.boy. His elder brother Harry was also a board. As a grand daughters

:16:34. > :16:39.says when they ship sank, Harry was on the wrong side of a doorway. It

:16:40. > :16:45.was a water tainted door and he couldn't open it. His brother

:16:46. > :16:57.shouted at him to go. He just jumped in the water. At Liverpool parish

:16:58. > :17:03.church, a memo rail service was held. The great grandniece of

:17:04. > :17:12.another victim laid a wreath. I am happy. The captain survived. Has

:17:13. > :17:19.great grand daughter what would be covered from the wreck. He survived

:17:20. > :17:26.its demise but always felt he should have gone down with this yet. More

:17:27. > :17:30.than 100 survivors were brought back to Glasgow on another ship. It

:17:31. > :17:36.happened just before World War I, which explains why the disaster is

:17:37. > :17:43.so little known. The organiser of the service says of the 158 children

:17:44. > :17:49.on board, only four survived. The trauma and the heart has transferred

:17:50. > :17:57.down three generations. These people still feel it. 840 of the victims

:17:58. > :18:12.were passengers. More passengers lost than on the Titanic or the

:18:13. > :18:20.Lusitania. Here is a question. How big is the television you're

:18:21. > :18:24.watching on? We are about to meet the songwriter who has written a

:18:25. > :18:35.one`off cup single about the size of your television.

:18:36. > :19:04.It is a very catchy tune. Here is a bit of it. SINGING..

:19:05. > :19:15.It is catchy to say the least! . How big is your television? Mine is

:19:16. > :19:24.about 46 inches because I am blind. I am a 52 inch. I listened to it

:19:25. > :19:28.this afternoon and had been singing it ever since. It tells a story in

:19:29. > :19:37.its own right. It is also for charity. It is a record we did at a

:19:38. > :19:44.Manchester charity. They wanted a little idea and it's kind of

:19:45. > :19:51.blossomed from that. We wanted to make it managing in in terms of its

:19:52. > :20:02.subject matter. And having a dig at certain things. You are the main

:20:03. > :20:11.singer throughout the video. What is written on your tummy? My belly is

:20:12. > :20:25.bigger than your daily. You got a few big names as well. We got Ricky

:20:26. > :20:29.Hatton and others. We will have another look at it in a minute.

:20:30. > :20:35.There is a charity aspect to this, isn't there? Yes. Charities that are

:20:36. > :20:50.doing a lot of work in the community. It is the Manchester

:20:51. > :21:00.community thing, giving back. I have barely innovate? Good luck with the

:21:01. > :21:12.song. Yours is really good. You can get it on iTunes. Something

:21:13. > :21:17.completely different. Have you ever wondered what is at the bottom of

:21:18. > :21:23.the canal? They have been dredging and have been displaying the

:21:24. > :21:38.results. An art exhibition has been created from the recovered rubbish.

:21:39. > :21:43.It opened today in Manchester. I loved items and rubbish recovered

:21:44. > :21:46.from the canal has never been a smack has now been transformed into

:21:47. > :21:52.pieces of artwork by disgruntled residents and artists. I live on the

:21:53. > :21:57.Rochdale Canal so this was close to my heart. From seeing what waste

:21:58. > :22:09.gets thrown away. And seeing the boards, through. `` the boats come

:22:10. > :22:19.through. The canal and River trust has spent over ?150,000 on

:22:20. > :22:24.dredging. The project is part of a clean up collaboration between them,

:22:25. > :22:26.local residents and art groups in Manchester to raise awareness of the

:22:27. > :22:33.damage that fly`tipping into waterways does to the environment.

:22:34. > :22:42.We found more pace, one looked pretty new. Seven or eight

:22:43. > :22:52.bicycles, about 12 shopping trolleys, televisions, a French,

:22:53. > :22:57.dubious kitchen knives. It may be rubbish for some people but after

:22:58. > :23:03.being cleaned, artists have worked their magic on the rubbish. Some of

:23:04. > :23:15.the most fascinating objects of desire for the first ever at Drake

:23:16. > :23:18.exhibition. Onto a tale of tarmac. Residents in

:23:19. > :23:29.Bolton who have been divided by a bizarre repair job. The only covered

:23:30. > :23:43.half the road. It, half potholes. The company

:23:44. > :23:46.agreed to repair any damage. Residents say they have appeared to

:23:47. > :23:56.not have finished the job. If you look down the road, if a car is

:23:57. > :24:01.parked on the flat surface, you end up driving on the side that has all

:24:02. > :24:06.the potholes. It is ludicrous. It is a terrible place to be. You cannot

:24:07. > :24:14.drive your car down it without a few bumps. United utilities told us they

:24:15. > :24:18.had agreed to leave the road in as good a condition as they have found

:24:19. > :24:22.it and believe that is what they have done. They said the intended to

:24:23. > :24:23.tarmac the whole road but the council didn't think it was the best

:24:24. > :24:38.solution. The evidence do not agree. They say

:24:39. > :24:43.this is an ancient highway and has natural drainage. It has never been

:24:44. > :24:51.a great road but it never looked as bad as this. He says he simply wants

:24:52. > :25:02.the council at United Utilities to come back and finish the job.

:25:03. > :25:12.The lad on the scooter in joy at the site! Onto the weather.

:25:13. > :25:20.Things get better as the head through the next few days. Saturday

:25:21. > :25:25.looks like being the better day of the weekend. Sunday is largely dry

:25:26. > :25:31.but rain will return towards the end of Sunday. It has been a cloudy day

:25:32. > :25:38.but not much rain. One of the better days of the week. Through the night

:25:39. > :25:46.the cloud cover will stick with you. It should be a settled night.

:25:47. > :25:55.Temperatures stay between nine Celsius and 11 or 12 in the cities.

:25:56. > :26:06.Through the morning the cloud cover will start to finish. In the morning

:26:07. > :26:14.it is still fairly gloomy but as the morning goes on the cloud cover will

:26:15. > :26:25.break. You could get some sunshine towards the end of the day. The

:26:26. > :26:34.breeze is light. Temperatures will gradually creep back up, 14 and 17

:26:35. > :26:47.Celsius. Tomorrow will be a little bit better. Here is the weekend. Top

:26:48. > :26:56.temperature 18 Celsius. The wet weather returns from the West. How

:26:57. > :27:07.big is your television? About 50 inches.

:27:08. > :27:11.Thank you for watching. We're back at 10:30pm.
