:00:42. > :00:57.the paper. England's World Cup chances.

:00:58. > :01:05.And we are alive with the annual brass band spectacular. Join me to

:01:06. > :01:16.hear a few of the contenders. Tonight, fresh appeals and grave

:01:17. > :01:18.concerns about the case of Rebecca Coriam, the Disney cruise lhne

:01:19. > :01:21.worker from Chester who vanhshed off North West Tonight has spokdn to

:01:22. > :01:25.a former Disney Security Officer with 17 years experience

:01:26. > :01:27.as a police investigator. She believes foul play should have

:01:28. > :01:29.been investigated Rebecca's family want

:01:30. > :01:32.officers to interview two Jayne McCubbin has this

:01:33. > :01:36.exclusive report. You know there weren't

:01:37. > :01:42.proper statements taken. They ruined

:01:43. > :01:44.a perfectly good crime scend. Hey, it's easy to throw

:01:45. > :01:47.an unconscious body overboard These are the professional

:01:48. > :01:53.opinions of Dawn Taplin. For 17 years she was

:01:54. > :01:56.a police investigator. For 1 year a Disney Securitx

:01:57. > :01:59.officer. She joined Disney months

:02:00. > :02:04.after Rebecca disappeared. But speaking to me from Florida

:02:05. > :02:08.she said a senior member of security staff sought her opinion

:02:09. > :02:11.on the case. She says Disney had written

:02:12. > :02:15.the disappearance off as suhcide. Her instincts screamed

:02:16. > :02:40.it was something else. Something just wasn't right. It

:02:41. > :02:48.wasn't sitting well and the possibly of `` possibility of fowl play.

:02:49. > :02:49.For legal reasons, we can't tell you the inforlation

:02:50. > :02:51.A day after Rebecca's disappearance, a single police officer boarded

:02:52. > :02:54.None of the 2000 passengers were questioned.

:02:55. > :02:55.We've now spoken to one of the very last people to see her alive.

:02:56. > :02:56.Stuart Thompson, a good fridnd, who's now working in South Korea.

:02:57. > :03:11.By email he told me that he left Rebecca's cabin at 2am.

:03:12. > :03:14.This is exactly what the Coriams think.

:03:15. > :03:16.There are 2 ex`Disney emploxees they want to see interviewed

:03:17. > :03:22.Because you think they may have had something to do with Rebecc`'s

:03:23. > :03:26.Or they know crucial information about it.

:03:27. > :03:30.Both of those employees werd interviewed by this man.

:03:31. > :03:33.This is Paul Rolle from the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

:03:34. > :03:37.He spoke to the family only briefly, only once.

:03:38. > :03:39.But what he told them has haunted them ever since.

:03:40. > :03:44.Paul Rolle told the family the attitude of one staff member, when

:03:45. > :04:03.Investigator said he wanted to pick this person up and smash thdm hard

:04:04. > :04:10.onto the ground. When we asked why he told us don't ruin my tr`in of

:04:11. > :04:19.thought. Superintendent Paul Rolle h`s

:04:20. > :04:21.never spoken to the family `gain. This photograph of Rebecca sees her

:04:22. > :04:25.sitting just yards from where Disney You can see it's in clear vhew

:04:26. > :04:29.of the bridge. Rebecca's family believes someone

:04:30. > :04:33.must have seen something. So,

:04:34. > :04:44.what do Disney and the police say? The allegations are without merit

:04:45. > :04:49.as we will prove in court. The family hope answers

:04:50. > :04:57.will be found in court. These court papers make a ntmber

:04:58. > :05:02.of new allegations. They believe the wrong co`ordinates

:05:03. > :05:05.were given by Disney to Coastguards. The Coastguard searched for Rebecca

:05:06. > :05:09.in the wrong area. They say they have evidence that

:05:10. > :05:12.the ship's AIS was off Disney's first attempt to gdt this

:05:13. > :05:20.thrown out of court failed A retired senior detective has told

:05:21. > :05:30.the BBC he was misled by Rochdale Council when he trhed to

:05:31. > :05:33.investigate allegations of `buse Detective Superintendent Bob

:05:34. > :05:38.Huntbach was in charge of an investigation into cl`ims that

:05:39. > :05:42.boys there were being sexually and He says he asked Rochdale Council

:05:43. > :05:49.for all the relevant paperwork but was never given a report detailing

:05:50. > :05:52.serious sexual abuse there. You may remember that the BBC

:05:53. > :05:54.revealed the existence Well, Ed Thomas is in Rochd`le

:05:55. > :05:59.for us now. Tell us a bit more

:06:00. > :06:02.about this detective, Bob Htntbach. He's claimed he wasn't given

:06:03. > :06:15.the full story. Yes, he is now retired but hn 2 00

:06:16. > :06:24.he was the top detective in this town. He ran the domestic abuse and

:06:25. > :06:26.child abuse unit and around that time he wanted to investigate

:06:27. > :06:33.suspected paedophiles connected with the school. He also wanted to look

:06:34. > :06:39.at several Smith, the former MP To do that he came to Rochdale council

:06:40. > :06:43.and said you wanted all the paperwork that they had on the

:06:44. > :06:55.school, as governors and its staff. He has now said he did not see ``

:06:56. > :07:06.received this report. He saxs that has left him angry and disappointed.

:07:07. > :07:08.It would have been a totallx different enquiry with a different

:07:09. > :07:11.amount of staff and a different amount of effort put into it.

:07:12. > :07:14.There is an obvious child protection issue and criminal issues that

:07:15. > :07:20.There's two ways people can lie to you, either not telling you what you

:07:21. > :07:21.should know or an outright lie to you.

:07:22. > :07:24.I think I was not told what I should have known.

:07:25. > :07:46.What about the victims? We spoke to the mother of one of those `nd her

:07:47. > :07:50.son was repeatedly beaten in the school. He was not sexually

:07:51. > :07:55.assaulted but what happened to him ruined his life, she said. She said

:07:56. > :07:58.she would have taken her son out of the school if this report h`d been

:07:59. > :08:01.made known. To make up for what he

:08:02. > :08:19.suffered because I let him go. We have also spoken to Rochdale

:08:20. > :08:23.council to get some reaction. Rochdale council said it cannot

:08:24. > :08:24.comment well this inquiry is under way to find out what exactlx

:08:25. > :08:29.happened. A former nurse at Stepping Hill

:08:30. > :08:31.hospital in Stockport has won damages of around ?100,000

:08:32. > :08:35.from Greater Manchester Polhce. Rebecca Leighton was arrestdd

:08:36. > :08:40.in 2011 after 22 patients fdll ill, She was held in custody

:08:41. > :08:45.for six weeks but later cle`red Miss Leighton claimed policd leaked

:08:46. > :08:49.her name to the press, Earlier this year, another nurse,

:08:50. > :08:53.Victorino Chua, was charged with There's a

:08:54. > :09:00."worrying shortage" in the number of trainee GPs in the region, `ccording

:09:01. > :09:04.to the British Medical Association. 49 of 270 posts remain unfilled

:09:05. > :09:07.in the latest round of recrtitment. The BMA describe it as

:09:08. > :09:18."deeply concerning". Direct train services from Blackpool

:09:19. > :09:21.to London could be up and rtnning The Great North Western railway

:09:22. > :09:24.company has struck The plan needs approval

:09:25. > :09:27.from the Rail Regulator. A previous application

:09:28. > :09:29.by Virgin to run The Labour Leader Ed Miliband

:09:30. > :09:36.has apologised for posing whth In fact, all three leaders did it,

:09:37. > :09:40.they said to promote But in Liverpool it was

:09:41. > :09:47.seen very differently. The newspaper is still reviled

:09:48. > :09:49.by many there because of the way it reported the

:09:50. > :09:52.Hillsborough tragedy 25 years ago. Liverpool's Labour Mayor,

:09:53. > :09:56.Joe Anderson, said his partx leader had insulted every person

:09:57. > :10:00.in the city by supporting The Sun. Well, our Chief Reporter,

:10:01. > :10:03.Dave Guest, is in the city now and clearly Joe Anderson didn't

:10:04. > :10:17.mince his words when describing how He told the Liverpool Echo that he

:10:18. > :10:27.was deeply offended and his leader had effectively promoted Thd Sun.

:10:28. > :10:30.This is a paper at the belidf went out of its way to smear the names of

:10:31. > :10:35.those caught up in the Liverpool tragedy. Mr Miliband apparently

:10:36. > :10:40.apologised over the phone l`st night and when our colleagues frol BBC

:10:41. > :10:47.Radio Manchester sides spokd to him today, it seems that he had been

:10:48. > :10:49.somewhat placated. He was asked to do it to support

:10:50. > :10:52.the England team. He felt that

:10:53. > :10:55.if he would have refused to do that, he would have been branded

:10:56. > :10:57.as someone who wasn't patriotic He was in between a rock

:10:58. > :11:01.and a hard place. What I have said to him is that he

:11:02. > :11:05.needs to understand the hatd that is still felt by the people

:11:06. > :11:08.of this city with regard to the way that paper trashed this citx and

:11:09. > :11:20.smeared this city and the f`milies. The apology has gone some w`y to

:11:21. > :11:24.placating the mayor but there was a resignation from the party today in

:11:25. > :11:29.protest. Ed Miliband wasn't the only party

:11:30. > :11:36.leader to pause for a photograph with The Sun, was he?

:11:37. > :11:48.That's right. David Cameron and Nick Clegg also pose with the newspaper.

:11:49. > :11:50.Nick Clegg has also been asked to apologise.

:11:51. > :11:53.People outside of Merseysidd realise the great upset and harm th`t was

:11:54. > :12:01.caused to the people of the city and it is an insult, what has h`ppened.

:12:02. > :12:07.The issue still a very senshtive ones here in Liverpool and those new

:12:08. > :12:13.inquests into the Hillsborotgh disaster continuing in Warrhngton.

:12:14. > :12:16.And our Political Editor Arhf Ansari will be discussing that with

:12:17. > :12:18.the Employment Minister and Wirral West MP Esther McVey

:12:19. > :12:21.and Michael Meacher, the Labour MP for Oldham West and Royton,

:12:22. > :12:31.A former soldier, who faces extradition to thd

:12:32. > :12:34.United States, has told us today his last hope now is an application to

:12:35. > :12:38.David Mcintyre is accused of fraudulently charging a peace group

:12:39. > :12:44.Earlier this week a High Cotrt rejected his appeal.

:12:45. > :12:48.He denies the charges and s`ys he has Post Traumatic Stress Dhsorder.

:12:49. > :12:59.Our reporter Yunus Mulla went to speak to him.

:13:00. > :13:05.David McIntyre is realistic about his chances of avoiding extradition

:13:06. > :13:11.to the United States, they `re slim and depend on one final leg`l

:13:12. > :13:15.challenge. If the European Court of Human Rights doesn't grant ht I will

:13:16. > :13:18.lose my job, I will lose my income, I will look at losing my falily home

:13:19. > :13:23.and everything I have worked towards.

:13:24. > :13:28.He faces eight counts of fr`ud over claims he charged a US peacd group

:13:29. > :13:33.65000 pounds for a security contract when he was running his own firm.

:13:34. > :13:38.I have been verbally accused of a crime in Iraq by an American who has

:13:39. > :13:43.been convicted and has taken it play bad in. Verbally accused. There is

:13:44. > :13:46.no evidence and I didn't do anything wrong.

:13:47. > :13:52.The suckers from post`traum`tic stress disorder and was givdn extra

:13:53. > :13:57.time to present his case in the High Court. It said there was no legal

:13:58. > :14:03.impediment to his removal to the US. I am quite happy to set any court in

:14:04. > :14:09.the United kingdom. I have been told by people that you are placdd in

:14:10. > :14:19.solitary confinement in the US and not given any time to see your

:14:20. > :14:25.family. You are given a piece of paper and told to confess or spend

:14:26. > :14:36.the rest of your life in jahl. I think he will react very badly. I

:14:37. > :14:41.just don't see it happening because I don't think he could cope. I don't

:14:42. > :14:47.think he would let it get that far. We get Jimmy Armfield's assdssment

:14:48. > :14:58.of England's World Cup chances. And the hills are alive with

:14:59. > :15:01.the sound of brass. Now, this is

:15:02. > :15:16.a white faced darter dragonfly. Twenty years ago they

:15:17. > :15:18.were all over the place. But these days you'd

:15:19. > :15:23.be lucky to see one. However, in Cheshire,

:15:24. > :15:25.a group of wildlife experts are They're on a mission to reintroduce

:15:26. > :15:29.them to the Delamere Forest. Our Environment Correspondent Judy

:15:30. > :15:39.Hobson went to meet them. This team from the

:15:40. > :15:47.Cheshire Wildlife Trust are looking It's

:15:48. > :15:51.the only proof they have th`t white faced darter dragonflies ard back in

:15:52. > :15:54.Delamere because the insects have Years ago there would have been

:15:55. > :16:00.hundreds of white faced darters in Delamere Forest, but thex

:16:01. > :16:04.haven?t been seen since 2003. That's because

:16:05. > :16:17.their habitats were destroydd. When it wasn't considered an amazing

:16:18. > :16:18.habitat, they were trained `way for forestry.

:16:19. > :16:21.This footage was taken in Shropshire where white faced darters are

:16:22. > :16:23.thriving, and so some of the larvae w`s taken

:16:24. > :16:27.Volunteers are now putting on their waders and helping to search

:16:28. > :16:32.So far 24 have been found ` proving that the area is now white

:16:33. > :16:44.We haven't seen many of thel today but that is probably no surprise

:16:45. > :16:48.because they are possibly away from the water and feeding. Becatse of

:16:49. > :16:50.the number of lardy cases the team have found, we do know therd are

:16:51. > :16:52.plenty of around here. And in the next few years

:16:53. > :17:12.the white faced darter dragonfly There is a buzz about the sport as

:17:13. > :17:21.well because the World Cup hs under way. England with their first game

:17:22. > :17:25.tomorrow against Italy. Brazil got us under way with that

:17:26. > :17:32.first game against Croatia. England fans will be hoping Roy Hodgson s

:17:33. > :17:36.men can do the same thing including former captain Jamie Armfield, who

:17:37. > :17:44.once faced Pelly. He knows dxactly what it is like to take on the best

:17:45. > :17:50.in their own back yard. Jamie Armfield has experienced the

:17:51. > :18:03.highs and lows of playing against Brazil.

:18:04. > :18:09.We came on the field and I had never seen anything like it. Rockdts

:18:10. > :18:17.fired, bands were playing, people were dancing and then a helhcopter

:18:18. > :18:25.came over. The thing was to keep your head on.

:18:26. > :18:28.Jimmy also lined up against the Brazilians in the 1962 World Cup.

:18:29. > :18:34.That tournament tested the players on every level.

:18:35. > :18:38.We played 8000 feet up in the Andes. We were there for two weeks and then

:18:39. > :18:41.had to come down to the coast to wear Brazil where Andy knocked

:18:42. > :18:46.aside. At the end of that competithon Jimmy

:18:47. > :18:58.was named best right back in the world. He did he think holds the key

:18:59. > :19:04.for England this time round? He has got a great left foot and

:19:05. > :19:13.will take free kicks. Johnson loves to bomb forward. He is a talented

:19:14. > :19:14.player. We've got high hopes of Berkeley but I think he has real

:19:15. > :21:16.ability. That is from contest contest. You h`ve got

:21:17. > :21:20.one perfectly timed just find you. Yes, but they are not allowdd to

:21:21. > :21:25.play at the moment, I will dxplain why. They come down the hill once

:21:26. > :21:30.every six minutes but as soon as they get to those red telephone box

:21:31. > :21:34.they stop playing because they don't want to disturb the band pl`ying

:21:35. > :21:48.round the corner to impress the judges.

:21:49. > :22:02.It is about trombones and ttbers and tradition. The contest dates back to

:22:03. > :22:07.1884. There are contests in 11 village and town locations. Here

:22:08. > :22:14.they are expecting over 80 bands to march and play in a few hours. It is

:22:15. > :22:21.all about a community, heritage and music. I am from Sweden and I love

:22:22. > :22:29.this event because all the different levels of bands. Young bands to the

:22:30. > :22:37.best in the world. It is a brilliant local event which has international

:22:38. > :22:42.connections. This band is along the many taking part. It's own history

:22:43. > :22:46.stretches back over 160 years. Last`minute rehearsals before

:22:47. > :22:52.boarding the band bus and hdading off to battle it out around the old

:22:53. > :22:57.and Saddleworth area. I havd been doing it for 40 years and c`n't

:22:58. > :23:02.imagine not doing it. I almost got sacked from work once for doing it.

:23:03. > :23:06.It is amazing. It is probably the most important day of the ydar.

:23:07. > :23:16.Certainly for the people around this area, it is massive. Does it give

:23:17. > :23:22.you a nice warm glow? Absolttely and we are very keen to keep it alive.

:23:23. > :23:31.Above all, today is about mtsic young and old enjoying the beauty of

:23:32. > :23:37.Mars at its very best. Another one is on its way down the

:23:38. > :23:41.health select have an word with the organiser. Explain the magic of this

:23:42. > :23:49.event. It takes a lot of doing but this is

:23:50. > :23:53.an absolutely magic day. Soleone said they would have this over

:23:54. > :23:58.Christmas. It must be a logistical nightmare

:23:59. > :24:04.getting all these bands through We try to channel one every six

:24:05. > :24:09.minutes. Are you hoping to beat the record.

:24:10. > :24:17.We are hoping to get 83 this year which would beat the record.

:24:18. > :24:22.What is the appeal? Yorkshire is steeped in it and yank sure as well.

:24:23. > :24:27.They are the two major areas but we get them from all over the world.

:24:28. > :24:32.Thanks very much indeed. Back to the studio.

:24:33. > :24:36.The hells very much alive whth the sound of music there.

:24:37. > :24:52.It is also a busy weekend in Liverpool.

:24:53. > :24:54.The International Mersey River Festival returns this weekend.

:24:55. > :24:57.Visiting boats will include the Tall Ships, Royal Merchant Navx, narrow

:24:58. > :25:11.boats and barges. There'll `lso be street theatre and live mushc.

:25:12. > :25:19.There are hundreds of peopld around me. We can show you pictures from

:25:20. > :25:25.the tall ships. This will bd open to the public tomorrow. Carrying on the

:25:26. > :25:33.celebration of the centenarx, there are plenty of events taking place

:25:34. > :25:37.here. It is a free events. Xou can find out more about your falily

:25:38. > :25:43.history, Discover head and stories on the war here in the North West. I

:25:44. > :25:51.can tell you also that ABC radio Merseyside will be broadcasting live

:25:52. > :25:57.from their over the weekend. A free events open to all the family. But

:25:58. > :26:16.the most important question is what will the weather be like. Wd have

:26:17. > :26:21.this high`pressure chart and that black line will dry cloud away and

:26:22. > :26:26.possibly heavy downpours. The headline I'm afraid is that it will

:26:27. > :26:34.be cooler than it has been. It will be cloudy and we are going to see

:26:35. > :26:42.some showers. You can see the radar. Some showers moving and across the

:26:43. > :26:46.Irish Sea. We will see thosd showers moving across the region tonight.

:26:47. > :26:53.Some heavy downpours from thme to time. It will be a poorly m`rked

:26:54. > :27:04.tonight but hopefully drier by Don. The headline for tomorrow continues

:27:05. > :27:07.to be the cloudy and my day. The front pages and from the East

:27:08. > :27:21.bringing heavy showers from time to time. By late afternoon you should

:27:22. > :27:36.see spells of sunshine. Possibly hides of 19 Celsius. Hopefully it

:27:37. > :27:43.will be more settled next wdek. World War I event this weekdnd.

:27:44. > :27:58.Have a lovely weekend and good luck England. Buy. `` goodbye.

:27:59. > :28:01.Make the most of your weekend, wherever you are.

:28:02. > :28:05.Use the BBC Weather App to stay one step ahead of the weather.
