:08:17. > :08:21.One man was also taken to hospital. Investigators examined an on`board

:08:22. > :08:28.generator. During the hearing, the man spoke only to confirm hhs name,

:08:29. > :08:31.age and address. The presidhng magistrate told him that matters

:08:32. > :08:36.with which he is charged so serious they need to be dealt with by a

:08:37. > :08:39.higher court. She told him he would have to face a preliminary hearing

:08:40. > :08:50.at Carlisle Crown Court on July seven.

:08:51. > :08:52.In 2008 Viv Reynolds from Whdnes, was told her cervical smear was

:08:53. > :08:56.clear, but it wasn't and now she only has up to two years to live as

:09:12. > :09:16.In 2008 she was told that hdr smear test was clear but by 2011 cancer

:09:17. > :09:35.I was told I had cervical c`ncer. It was a surreal moment of, I `m not

:09:36. > :09:42.really here listening to thhs because I didn't feel unwell. I felt

:09:43. > :09:50.fine. I had five weeks of intense chemotherapy and a total of 50

:09:51. > :09:52.external radiation beams and three internal radiation beams.

:09:53. > :09:55.Viv's legal team had the orhginal test reviewed and say their expert

:09:56. > :10:05.It wasn't a small mistake, ht was a serious error of reading.

:10:06. > :10:07.Warrington and Halton Hospital Foundation Trust

:10:08. > :10:29.Viv believes women should be screened but wants that

:10:30. > :10:44.The people who are trained to look at the slides are holding pdople's

:10:45. > :10:50.lives in the hands and I don't want another woman to go through the fear

:10:51. > :10:59.and anguished as I go through on a daily basis.

:11:00. > :11:01.To discuss this more, we're joined now by Jessica Kirby,

:11:02. > :11:12.Cancer Research UK's Senior Health Information Manager.

:11:13. > :11:24.A tragic case. How important is it that women make sure they attend

:11:25. > :11:30.their smear tests? This test `` this case is tragic. Cervical screening,

:11:31. > :11:34.although it is not perfect, is an effective way of picking up those

:11:35. > :11:40.early cell changes that could go on to develop into cervical cancer if

:11:41. > :11:46.left untreated. It is not a perfect test and it can miss cases of cancer

:11:47. > :11:52.but it does pick up a lot of women who do have those early changes and

:11:53. > :11:56.by taking away those abnorm`l cells, it can prevent cervical cancer from

:11:57. > :12:02.developing in the first place. It is thought cervical screening saves

:12:03. > :12:06.5000 lives a year in England and it is important to keep going for those

:12:07. > :12:14.screening appointments becatse it saves lives. There is a 70% success

:12:15. > :12:20.rate, three in ten thereford don't work. They are tested and l`belled

:12:21. > :12:23.as clear or not clear and then checked by a second technichan.

:12:24. > :12:30.Would it not be better if they were not labelled English and me and were

:12:31. > :12:33.checked clear by two separate sets of eyes? Its walls out any drror

:12:34. > :12:43.that people might make in thinking that it is clear. `` it rulds out.

:12:44. > :12:49.Qualities candids are supposed to be as high as they can be. All of the

:12:50. > :12:53.screeners who look at the s`mples, as to whether they are norm`l or

:12:54. > :13:00.abnormal, are trained as well as they can be. One of the best ways of

:13:01. > :13:07.improving the screening programme is to change the test that is tsed in

:13:08. > :13:15.cervical screening to what hs known as HPV set testing. This is a test

:13:16. > :13:20.which looks for the cervical cancer. It is used in the programme

:13:21. > :13:25.and it is used if women havd borderline or mild changes hn their

:13:26. > :13:30.cells. It is used to find ott whether they need further

:13:31. > :13:48.investigation. It could makd the whole process more accurate. Thank

:13:49. > :13:50.you so much. We are out of time Liverpool has been attracting

:13:51. > :13:57.leaders for its festival of business. Many leaders from far`away

:13:58. > :14:09.as Shanghai and Bogota have come to Liverpool. Good evening.

:14:10. > :14:13.We often think about cities as national leaders but cities are

:14:14. > :14:17.vitally important and today they turned up from around the world

:14:18. > :14:24.using Liverpool as the stagd to discuss the challenges they face and

:14:25. > :14:30.the way ahead. A stable of layors on show in Liverpool. Global chty

:14:31. > :14:38.leaders here to learn a trade. Tash and trade. Alabama, USA, whdre

:14:39. > :14:50.mayors are more powerful. If you want to get something done, you can

:14:51. > :14:58.get it done? Absolutely. Whdn it is a multi`Molly `` multi`millhon

:14:59. > :15:02.dollar deal or a project. It has allowed us to show confidence to

:15:03. > :15:06.business that when we say something will be done, it will be done.

:15:07. > :15:13.Government like the account`bility of the mayor. Not being a m`yor has

:15:14. > :15:17.not stopped Manchester doing anything, including having `

:15:18. > :15:23.presence on an international stage. This is what city leaders w`nt,

:15:24. > :15:27.Liverpool set to exceed the mayor's target of building 5000 new homes.

:15:28. > :15:32.Joe Anderson says being mayor has given him the influence to get

:15:33. > :15:37.developers building but whether a mayor or a council leader, they are

:15:38. > :15:42.united in asking the governlent to excavate powers from Whiteh`ll and

:15:43. > :15:47.build them up in our big cities One of the things that has held back the

:15:48. > :15:50.region's economy is decisions were taken in London rather than by the

:15:51. > :15:58.people that know their areas best. We're putting the powers and also

:15:59. > :16:03.the money to be able to invdst and make decisions locally. Leaders are

:16:04. > :16:08.discussing their city's futtre, maybe giving Liverpool some ideas

:16:09. > :16:12.and maybe taking some away. It is interesting how many of those

:16:13. > :16:17.leaders face similar challenges whether it is on education, jobs or

:16:18. > :16:21.transport. I was talking to William Bell, the mayor from Alabam`, who

:16:22. > :16:23.told me his ancestors came to Liverpool as slaves and will leave

:16:24. > :16:28.here with four better memorhes. Richard is here now with tonight's

:16:29. > :16:32.sport and just in case the World Cup wasn't enough, even more excitement

:16:33. > :16:36.for football fans today. Yes, today is one of those days that

:16:37. > :16:40.fans from every club have rhnged on the calendar, the day thd new

:16:41. > :16:42.season's fixtures are published We all have at least a little look,

:16:43. > :16:45.seeing where our team starts the season and finishes

:16:46. > :16:48.and usually checking out Boxing Day Well for fans of Burnley, b`ck in

:16:49. > :17:11.the Premier League, of course it was They have had the promotion party.

:17:12. > :17:15.Now it is time for them to look ahead. Burnley fans have bedn

:17:16. > :17:19.looking forward to the Premher League season after promotion more

:17:20. > :17:28.secure but now the fixtures are out, they can start to get excitdd about

:17:29. > :17:38.what is ahead. 1`macro home games to Chelsea and Manchester Unitdd. It

:17:39. > :18:04.As eagerly anticipated as ever. The problem at all.

:18:05. > :18:06.As eagerly anticipated as ever. The clash of the blues and reds is on

:18:07. > :18:26.the 27th of September at Anfield. For our newly promoted sides in

:18:27. > :20:36.League 1, Fleetwood and Rochdale, it is a feature list to savour.

:20:37. > :20:40.She didn't remarry. It was ` coping strategy.

:20:41. > :20:52.It's final entry ` a simple photo of her son's headstone.

:20:53. > :21:00.It shows how they honoured their son. They maybe couldn't face that

:21:01. > :21:02.he was the younger one and the baby of the family. They were he`rtbroken

:21:03. > :21:04.by grief. The Gregs' sisters served as nurses

:21:05. > :21:07.in France, tending the wounded, The Heroes

:21:08. > :21:11.of Adventure exhibition also tells the tales of the workers who went to

:21:12. > :21:14.war ` including Edward Coopdr. His loom remained idle for three

:21:15. > :21:28.years waiting or him to rettrn. We feel connected with the people we

:21:29. > :21:35.have researched and told thd story in exhibition. It was very hard at

:21:36. > :21:41.times. A pair of golden wings forever gone, another heart of

:21:42. > :21:50.England knows distress. The golden wings will carry on and flipped and

:21:51. > :22:16.pass as they die on. No matter what your status was, it would h`ve

:22:17. > :22:26.impacted on your life. We are going to show you their work at a wildlife

:22:27. > :22:30.centre. We will be having the weather from there.

:22:31. > :22:41.It is a beautiful evening tonight. You can see the flamingos bdhind me,

:22:42. > :22:45.they are one of the species here. Now they are wanting to movd into

:22:46. > :22:46.the future and are trying to bring in new animals so visitors have

:22:47. > :23:10.something to say. It is home to more than 150 species

:23:11. > :23:14.of birds throughout the year. Some treat it like a Hotel flying in and

:23:15. > :23:22.out when they want and others are here for the long haul. It hs a

:23:23. > :23:23.wonderful job. We have a lot to do. It is about conservation and

:23:24. > :23:34.education. We educate our visiting public.

:23:35. > :23:39.Steve is the Grounds manager. His job is to make sure the anilals have

:23:40. > :23:48.what they need and to help endangered birds like this. We are

:23:49. > :23:53.talking in the 100s worldwide. We have one female sitting on X at the

:23:54. > :24:00.moment. We are waiting impatiently and hoping they are going to hatch.

:24:01. > :24:05.He is also playing matchmakdr. These are vulnerable in the wild. It is

:24:06. > :24:14.important to work on this species and that is why we are lookhng for a

:24:15. > :24:22.suitable mate. If you thought this place was just home to wonddrful

:24:23. > :24:27.birds, think again. It has had to think for the future to keep

:24:28. > :24:36.attracting those visitors. Where are we? We are in the Beaver enclosure.

:24:37. > :24:44.It is very overgrown. This hs ideal for them. They feel secure `nd will

:24:45. > :24:52.come out at night and look for favourite timbers. Because of the

:24:53. > :24:57.industrial activities around water, they are creating dams and new

:24:58. > :25:06.pools. They become important areas for breeding. The best bit `bout

:25:07. > :25:11.Steve's job is he gets to lhve on site so he is the first one up and

:25:12. > :25:22.the last one to go home. Who needs a TV? This is the beautiful vhew that

:25:23. > :25:27.Steve was talking about. I have run from one side to the other so I am

:25:28. > :25:33.sorry if I am out of breath. These are the views that we will be taking

:25:34. > :25:45.into tomorrow as we meet thd manager here.

:25:46. > :25:54.Let us hope we have good we`ther. Now for the weather.

:25:55. > :26:02.You also saw from the report in Liverpool, beautiful blue skies over

:26:03. > :26:09.Merseyside. It is very humid and a lot of cloud cover. Look at these

:26:10. > :26:12.temperatures. Well in excess of 23 Celsius right across the region

:26:13. > :26:21.today and we saw high pollen counts as well. For tonight, we will hang

:26:22. > :26:28.on the blue skies. We have ` wonderful evening to come. There

:26:29. > :26:33.could be an onshore sea bredze. It was very muggy last night. Still

:26:34. > :26:37.double temperatures overnight and we are down to 14 Celsius. For

:26:38. > :26:44.tomorrow, it will be cooler and we start of cloudy. We should start off

:26:45. > :26:49.mostly dry but we may see some rain not amounting to much because of the

:26:50. > :26:53.cloud building but we have some breaks in the clouds to allow some

:26:54. > :27:01.sunshine to breakthrough. You are in for another fine day. It max be not

:27:02. > :27:10.as warm as today. Look at the temperatures. In the next couple of

:27:11. > :27:18.days, it is not looking too bad Temperatures will dip away `nd we

:27:19. > :27:27.will see warm sunshine. I prefer it warmer. I do not like it th`t heart.

:27:28. > :27:35.Let us leave you with some of the wonderful pictures from the lake in

:27:36. > :27:37.Lancashire. Beautiful.
