:00:00. > :00:00.and on our website, but that is all for now. It is

:00:07. > :00:09.Welcome to North West Tonight with Roger Johnson and Beccy Meehan.

:00:10. > :00:12.Hundreds of anti`fracking activists head

:00:13. > :00:24.towards a protest camp in Lancashire as a farmer tries to evict them.

:00:25. > :00:31.Group of solidarity. The air and water in Lancashire is at risk.

:00:32. > :00:34.We'll hear from a business leader who fears the camp will damage

:00:35. > :00:37.Residents' terror as arsonists run rampage, torching

:00:38. > :00:41.A Merseyside MP demands government action to protect

:00:42. > :00:45.the unemployed from bogus job ads on an official website.

:00:46. > :00:48.And Strictly Southport ` lift`off for one lucky lady as Anton Du Beke

:00:49. > :01:07.Attempts to set up an anti`fracking protest camp near Blackpool have run

:01:08. > :01:09.into trouble tonight, with a farmer starting legal action

:01:10. > :01:17.Over the next few days, up to 1,000 campaigners from all over

:01:18. > :01:20.the country are expected to arrive at the Cuadrilla site near

:01:21. > :01:26.Critics fear the activists ` some of them veterans of direct action

:01:27. > :01:33.at Balcombe in Sussex ` will damage the area's image and economy.

:01:34. > :01:50.Protest is starting to gather behind you, not many yet, but already

:01:51. > :01:56.something of a stand`off. Yes. This field would normally be full of

:01:57. > :01:58.cows, but tonight it's full of anti`Freckingham protest is. The

:01:59. > :02:04.farmer who owns the field says he beginning legal action to evict

:02:05. > :02:06.them. They've even brought

:02:07. > :02:07.the kitchen sink. Protesters began to arrive

:02:08. > :02:09.from around the country today, joining a group

:02:10. > :02:11.of local mothers and grandmothers We asked them to come to Blackpool

:02:12. > :02:15.to support our movement, The air and water

:02:16. > :02:24.in Lancashire is at risk. This field is next to where

:02:25. > :02:26.Cuadrilla would No work has been done yet,

:02:27. > :02:32.but it's applied for planning permission and expects a decision

:02:33. > :02:36.from the council by November. We expect about 1,000 people to come

:02:37. > :02:40.over the weekend, people locally and from around the country because

:02:41. > :02:45.this issue affects all of us. I've come from London, I wanted

:02:46. > :02:48.to be part of it because I've seen the damage

:02:49. > :02:51.fracking has been doing for the and it's where the struggle against

:02:52. > :03:01.fracking is the most emblematic. Today, residents nearby

:03:02. > :03:07.had mixed views. I'm delighted that they are

:03:08. > :03:11.there making a protest. As long as they don't do anything

:03:12. > :03:16.illegal, I'm more than happy. I'm very happy

:03:17. > :03:19.for them to do what they think is right, but I don't feel sufficiently

:03:20. > :03:22.concerned about it because I think It's a quiet area, we don't

:03:23. > :03:33.want people in the streets. Obviously they think they

:03:34. > :03:36.are doing the right thing. The unfortunate part is it won't

:03:37. > :03:38.make a scrap of difference because they will just do

:03:39. > :03:44.the fracking anyway. The farmer who owns this field

:03:45. > :03:49.didn't want to appear on camera, but told us he's very unhappy

:03:50. > :03:52.at the protesters' actions He's been supported by the National

:03:53. > :03:59.Farmers Union, who told us the camp had potential to cause

:04:00. > :04:02.serious harm to land and livestock. The farmer has begun legal

:04:03. > :04:19.proceedings to evict You can see behind me they've

:04:20. > :04:25.started to a wrecked on marquee. On Sunday they planned to march down

:04:26. > :04:30.Blackpool promenade and on Monday they are threatening direct action

:04:31. > :04:36.against local businesses linked to Cuadrilla. When I asked them who

:04:37. > :04:40.they would target and what they would do, they wouldn't be drawn.

:04:41. > :04:45.Thank you very much. Let's pick up on that final point with Rob Green.

:04:46. > :04:48.You represent a group of local businesses committed to making the

:04:49. > :04:54.most of any economic benefits from fracking. Are you worried? We are

:04:55. > :04:59.because we welcome tourists and visitors, but we don't welcome

:05:00. > :05:04.people who come along to disrupt or commit acts that will interfere with

:05:05. > :05:07.people enjoying themselves in the area, or with businesses. Do you

:05:08. > :05:12.welcome people exercising their democratic right to protest?

:05:13. > :05:15.Absolutely, people have every right to make a peaceful protest and

:05:16. > :05:21.engage in constructive dialogue. There's a lot of information people

:05:22. > :05:29.need to understand about the shale gas industry. Some ill informed

:05:30. > :05:32.direct action is not the way to go about this. Given that many people

:05:33. > :05:38.came from the Sussex protests year, are you concerned that some

:05:39. > :05:45.kind of direct action could be violent? Or disruptive? I wouldn't

:05:46. > :05:51.anticipate there would be violence. Any disruptive action is not really

:05:52. > :05:56.welcome. We would rather have constructive dialogue with groups

:05:57. > :06:03.who are concerned and want to find out more about shale gas. We've had

:06:04. > :06:07.a number of polls this week, one backed by the industry saying people

:06:08. > :06:11.are in favour, one put out by the government saying

:06:12. > :06:14.against fracking. A report that was heavily redacted. You are trying to

:06:15. > :06:18.make a positive spin, but mightily confused. It can be a

:06:19. > :06:25.confusing situation, of information, there are a lot of

:06:26. > :06:30.myths. Fractions of information. It is a complex industry, people need

:06:31. > :06:35.to understand and have to make an effort to understand. Have you had

:06:36. > :06:41.any communication with the police on behalf of the businesses you

:06:42. > :06:46.represent? Not personally, but the police and local authorities are

:06:47. > :06:49.keeping an eye on things to make sure there isn't disruption, which

:06:50. > :06:52.potentially harms the town or interferes with the right for

:06:53. > :06:55.individuals to go about and enjoy themselves in Blackpool. Thank you.

:06:56. > :06:58.Lancashire police have launched a murder inquiry after a 26`year`old

:06:59. > :07:01.woman and 22`month`old boy were found dead at a house in Euxton.

:07:02. > :07:03.It's believed they were mother and son.

:07:04. > :07:05.Police discovered the bodies at an address on Princess Way

:07:06. > :07:10.They've described it as a "tragic case" and say they aren't

:07:11. > :07:14.They were alerted after a neighbour became concerned.

:07:15. > :07:18.We hadn't seen her for a couple of days and I usually see her go out

:07:19. > :07:23.They went round to see if they could see anything

:07:24. > :07:27.She had her father's phone number so she rang him

:07:28. > :07:40.The family of a man who died after an assault in Liverpool this

:07:41. > :07:43.morning say he was well known for his heart of gold and that

:07:44. > :07:48.64`year`old Richie Williams was found unconscious in west Derby.

:07:49. > :07:51.A 38`year`old man is being questioned on suspicion

:07:52. > :07:59.Widnes Vikings have published images on their website of people they say

:08:00. > :08:01.invaded the pitch and caused trouble after the team's defeat in

:08:02. > :08:06.Spectators from the Widnes section were involved in

:08:07. > :08:12.Residents in a quiet street in Stockport got a rude awakening

:08:13. > :08:18.Vandals were on the rampage in Hazel Grove, firebombing vehicles

:08:19. > :08:26.and causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

:08:27. > :08:28.One resident described the thick smoke and the flames shooting into

:08:29. > :08:33.Just this front, I don't think there's anything inside.

:08:34. > :08:36.The front of Rosie Jones' car simply melted them when vandals

:08:37. > :08:42.We said it was like something out of a horror film.

:08:43. > :08:48.Don't know why anybody would want to do it.

:08:49. > :08:52.At around 2am, residents in streets off the A6 in Hazel Grove looked out

:08:53. > :08:58.to see flames and thick smoke, an apocalyptic sight one of them said.

:08:59. > :09:00.Four vehicles were targeted by the vandals.

:09:01. > :09:05.The estimated damage, around ?60,000.

:09:06. > :09:09.Who they were or why they did it remains unknown.

:09:10. > :09:13.This is what's left of a Volkswagen Jetta.

:09:14. > :09:15.Calum Pickstone needs this van for work.

:09:16. > :09:17.It's hard to believe, but it could have been worse.

:09:18. > :09:29.Really, it's very good I didn't have any on the van last night.

:09:30. > :09:33.Police officers have been knocking on doors,

:09:34. > :09:43.Somebody used an accelerant on the front of the vehicles.

:09:44. > :09:48.Either a fuel`based substance, we're speaking with

:09:49. > :10:02.The victims are now turning to their insurers.

:10:03. > :10:10.The police say they are determined to find out who did this and why.

:10:11. > :10:13.The parents of a Liverpool man killed in Thailand say they're

:10:14. > :10:15.angry and distressed that his alleged attacker has been granted

:10:16. > :10:22.Darren Taylor's family are worried they could come face to

:10:23. > :10:25.face with James Durnan, the man charged with Darren's murder.

:10:26. > :10:27.He's accused of pushing Darren from a sixth`floor balcony after the

:10:28. > :10:35.When their son Darren died in Bangkok, the last thing

:10:36. > :10:37.his parents expected to be worried about was meeting his alleged killer

:10:38. > :10:47.If we go into town, we don't know whether we're walking past him.

:10:48. > :10:50.The only thing we know is he's got red hair.

:10:51. > :10:52.Every 23, 24`year`old male who passes us with

:10:53. > :11:01.Darren had lived in Thailand for three years.

:11:02. > :11:04.His partner was four months pregnant when, in June 2013, Darren died

:11:05. > :11:09.after allegedly being pushed from his sixth floor balcony.

:11:10. > :11:11.James Durnan, also from Liverpool, was charged with murder

:11:12. > :11:19.Gary and Linda have just returned from their first trip to Bangkok to

:11:20. > :11:21.see their grandson Anfield, named in memory

:11:22. > :11:29.When they arrived, they discovered Durnan had been allowed back to

:11:30. > :11:41.I don't know what could justify that.

:11:42. > :11:44.We've tried to contact the defendant's Thai legal team without

:11:45. > :11:48.success, but according to a separate legal team based in Warrington, a

:11:49. > :11:51.Thai court can grant bail depending on the nature of the offence, the

:11:52. > :11:54.threat to society, the risk of absconding

:11:55. > :11:59.There's also an extradition treaty between Thailand and the UK to

:12:00. > :12:11.We'll continue to make noise until what should be done is done.

:12:12. > :12:13.And for Darren's parents, that means the trial taking place, as

:12:14. > :12:27.It's hard enough being out of work, but for 11 jobseekers in Birkenhead,

:12:28. > :12:29.it became a nightmare when they were conned out of money by bogus

:12:30. > :12:35.vacancies posted on the government's own job search website.

:12:36. > :12:37.Their MP called for an inquiry, which found thousands

:12:38. > :12:42.of fake jobs had been advertised on the Jobmatch site.

:12:43. > :12:44.Frank Field says the government has been too slow to

:12:45. > :12:47.put things right, and people are still at risk of fraud.

:12:48. > :13:05.This is the government's website. Monster is paid ?4 million a year to

:13:06. > :13:07.run it, but it's been described as having monster problems.

:13:08. > :13:08.Fraudsters still seem free to advertise and rip off money

:13:09. > :13:15.One of the worst cases happened here in Birkenhead.

:13:16. > :13:19.11 job`seekers were interviewed by a man offering jobs to councillors,

:13:20. > :13:22.jobs to help sexually abused children, but successful candidates

:13:23. > :13:31.Tom and Lisa paid ` there was no job.

:13:32. > :13:39.They asked for a criminal records check.

:13:40. > :13:45.In the back of my mind it was my thinking that it was done through

:13:46. > :13:53.As police investigated the bogus employer, Frank Field pushed

:13:54. > :14:01.It found non`jobs, bogus jobs, duplicate jobs.

:14:02. > :14:06.12,000 bogus jobs have had to be removed.

:14:07. > :14:07.A further 250,000 jobs have had to be removed

:14:08. > :14:15.You apply for them, the jobs have gone but it's up there

:14:16. > :14:27.You get passed along with interviews and you get nothing.

:14:28. > :14:34.The NAO report concluded there was a higher risk of bogus jobs here

:14:35. > :14:38.And it found job seekers are still at risk.

:14:39. > :14:40.Today, the Department for Work and Pensions said it was working

:14:41. > :14:46.continuously to make the system as effective as possible.

:14:47. > :14:52.Can the Blues rise again to defend their Premier League title?

:14:53. > :14:57.And digging deep ` the Manchester allotments preparing

:14:58. > :15:09.for a food festival to raise money for disabled gardeners.

:15:10. > :15:12.Last month, the Ummah Welfare Trust was told by HSBC its bank accounts

:15:13. > :15:15.The Bolton`based Islamic charity put the decision down to

:15:16. > :15:19.HSBC, though, says stringent government rules designed to crack

:15:20. > :15:21.down on the funding of criminal and terrorist activity have

:15:22. > :15:23.prompted them to severe links with many organisations,

:15:24. > :15:29.Now, Yasmin Qureshi, the MP for Bolton South East,

:15:30. > :15:34.I spoke to her earlier and started by asking her why she thinks HSBC

:15:35. > :15:53.They say that this is a procedure they are going through, procedure.

:15:54. > :15:58.Ummah say they are really disappointed and upset because

:15:59. > :16:04.they've been given no reason as to why they were withdrawing banking

:16:05. > :16:11.facilities. They say all our records are transparent, we know where the

:16:12. > :16:15.money comes from, where it's going, the countries we operate in and the

:16:16. > :16:21.money is being spent well. We make sure it's not spent in any

:16:22. > :16:24.inappropriate way and we know where the money is coming from. They are

:16:25. > :16:30.extremely upset about it and very reputable charity in my

:16:31. > :16:35.constituency. HSBC are head hearing to these regulations set out by the

:16:36. > :16:38.government. Surely as an MP you need to go straight to the ministers

:16:39. > :16:44.involved rather than boycotting HSBC? I have. I've contacted George

:16:45. > :16:52.Osborne's office, as well as Vince Cable. There need to be rules in

:16:53. > :16:58.place. Those rules are designed for cartels and big business, corrupt

:16:59. > :17:04.dealings and all sorts of things. Those same rules are being applied

:17:05. > :17:09.to small charities. For some reason because HSBC, because of what's been

:17:10. > :17:15.said to them, are pulling credit away from the small organisations.

:17:16. > :17:19.The rules are wrong. I'm campaigning for the government to

:17:20. > :17:23.rules so we have a much more sensible system.

:17:24. > :17:29.commission could have a kitemark saying these charities have no

:17:30. > :17:33.problem. Then the banks can say these have kitemark is so that

:17:34. > :17:38.hopefully these small organisations don't get caught when they are

:17:39. > :17:40.designed for much bigger culprits and people seriously involved in

:17:41. > :17:41.money`laundering. Thanks very much. Football now, and former Liverpool

:17:42. > :17:42.striker Luis Suarez's four`month biting ban has been upheld

:17:43. > :17:45.by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but the Uruguay striker can

:17:46. > :17:51.now train with new club Barcelona. Suarez's lawyers argued

:17:52. > :17:53.the world governing body FIFA's decision to suspend him

:17:54. > :17:56.from all "football`related activity" for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini

:17:57. > :17:57.at the World Cup was excessive. Suarez's old team were pipped to the

:17:58. > :18:07.title last season by Manchester City City and many see the Blues

:18:08. > :18:10.as the team to beat once again. The Premier League returns this

:18:11. > :18:12.weekend and today we're looking Richard Askam has been assessing

:18:13. > :18:22.their chances with a terrace icon. Feed the goat and he will score was

:18:23. > :18:29.his child and Shaun Goater often did. He netted more than 100 goals

:18:30. > :18:33.for the blues and like City fans everywhere, can't wait for the new

:18:34. > :18:42.season. I think we are very strong. A few players have come back from

:18:43. > :18:48.the World Cup. Some need to get to full fitness, but the new signings

:18:49. > :18:53.look very good. Good pace and the understand he is a good reader of

:18:54. > :18:57.the game. I think it will make us stronger defensively because we know

:18:58. > :19:05.how good we are. How important alongside the new signings that

:19:06. > :19:09.David Silva and Vincent Kompany have signed longer contracts? It's

:19:10. > :19:16.brilliant. The timing of it is great before the start of the season. What

:19:17. > :19:20.do you make of Manuel Pellegrini saying he has two number one

:19:21. > :19:27.goalkeeper 's? He's asking Joe Hart to prove himself. Joe Hart has been

:19:28. > :19:33.great at proving people wrong and this is another occasion where he

:19:34. > :19:38.will look and say, I'll show you I'm number one. It's impossible to gauge

:19:39. > :19:40.absolutely what Manuel Pellegrini is thinking in terms of priorities.

:19:41. > :19:48.Would you say probably the for this season is the Champions

:19:49. > :19:54.League? Well, for me as a fan, I would like to retain the league

:19:55. > :20:00.because that shows a dominance in the league in England. But I'd look

:20:01. > :20:03.for an improvement on what we did last season in the Champions League.

:20:04. > :20:11.Shaun Goater talking to Richard. We'll look ahead to the start of the

:20:12. > :20:13.Premier League for the rest of the region's Premier League

:20:14. > :20:15.In this part of the world, we?re not short of major gardening events.

:20:16. > :20:17.There's RHS Tatton and the Southport Flower Show, which we'll

:20:18. > :20:21.But a group of gardeners from Manchester are hoping to do

:20:22. > :20:25.Vegfest is taking place this Sunday at the Crumpsall and

:20:26. > :20:29.They're hoping to raise ?10,000 to make the site wheelchair friendly.

:20:30. > :20:31.Elaine Dunkley has been to see how they're getting on.

:20:32. > :20:33.# Take me outside, sit in the green garden.

:20:34. > :20:36.It's been a bumper year so far for the growers at the Crumpsall

:20:37. > :20:38.and Cheetham Hill Allotment, but this year will also see them

:20:39. > :20:42.There are just days to go until Vegfest.

:20:43. > :20:44.The allotment team are hoping to raise thousands to

:20:45. > :20:49.There are a lot of people that I know are wheelchair`bound who would

:20:50. > :20:54.love the opportunity to be able to come out here.

:20:55. > :20:57.We intend to turn this into a raised bed area

:20:58. > :21:01.for people with disabilities, for different groups to use.

:21:02. > :21:08.It won't just be prized veg on show this year.

:21:09. > :21:10.Matt Nixon, a gramophone enthusiast and gardener, is hoping to pull

:21:11. > :21:19.We're trying to create a kind of village fete, I suppose.

:21:20. > :21:26.It's where the community comes together.

:21:27. > :21:28.We'd love people to come and see our allotments, people support the

:21:29. > :21:35.Gardeners young and old have been getting their hands dirty here

:21:36. > :21:41.since the allotment's Royal opening by Prince Philip in 1972.

:21:42. > :21:43.This year's show will also celebrate the role of allotments

:21:44. > :21:51.The allotment started for the First World War and it became really

:21:52. > :21:55.We wouldn't have survived without them because of the blockades

:21:56. > :22:00.We wouldn't have been able to feed the country.

:22:01. > :22:03.Meanwhile, on the ground, Doug is rallying the troops to make sure

:22:04. > :22:09.He's been secretary for over 20 years.

:22:10. > :22:24.Performers and a stage are still needed.

:22:25. > :22:29.No doubt the gardeners will have to get moving to pull

:22:30. > :22:52.Has there ever been a better name for an allotment secretary van Doug?

:22:53. > :22:54.Strictly Come Dancing's Anton Du Beke wowed the crowds

:22:55. > :23:03.at the Southport Flower Show this afternoon.

:23:04. > :23:05.Over the next four days, 11,000 ice creams, 6,000 slices of cake and

:23:06. > :23:10.And in honour of this summer's World Cup, the theme is Brazil.

:23:11. > :23:19.Nazia Mogra has been sampling the samba and sunflowers.
