:01:20. > :01:22.found that Alder Hey has issues. Since the previous report, the trust
:01:23. > :01:28.has made significant improvements. There was also praise for accident
:01:29. > :01:37.and emergency and staff. Our health correspondent joins us from Alder
:01:38. > :01:43.Hey. Alder Hey Council for many families every year. For the
:01:44. > :01:46.majority, care is good. But this is a trust which has
:01:47. > :01:53.troubled times. In a report in February it filled in for out of
:01:54. > :02:00.five key areas. Inspectors have been back and it is once again on the
:02:01. > :02:09.spotlight. According to the latest inspection, there have been
:02:10. > :02:15.improvements but the trust must do better. The most important issue we
:02:16. > :02:17.have been facing is our shortage of nursing staff. The report highlights
:02:18. > :02:21.particular concern around the care of children in the high dependency
:02:22. > :02:28.unit. Safety and stabbing still fall short of the required standard. We
:02:29. > :02:33.have appointed a new consultant who is going to lead and we have plans
:02:34. > :02:39.in place to have a further consultants appointed by the end of
:02:40. > :02:42.the year. But it is safe. It is just making it unsafe to excellent. Staff
:02:43. > :02:48.shortages are still a big concern here but it is an issue the trust
:02:49. > :02:54.says it is addressing. Currently we are interviewing for new nurses. I
:02:55. > :03:02.think staff morale is improving. Every year we appoint new staff for
:03:03. > :03:08.the winter period and staff are wanting to stay. The trust has been
:03:09. > :03:12.rated as outstanding for its end of life care, accident and emergency
:03:13. > :03:19.rated as good and staff were recognisable care a compassionate
:03:20. > :03:29.and commitment. `` recognised for. This child was mad life has been
:03:30. > :03:36.saved here. I could not fault it. I have never had a problem with the
:03:37. > :03:43.staff. They seem younger days and bad days. We have received wonderful
:03:44. > :03:47.care. Obviously there are staffing issues which you have all over the
:03:48. > :03:54.place but this If it was not been transferred here
:03:55. > :04:04.and the surgery and good care rebuild confidence and morale. But
:04:05. > :04:13.trust says to improve. Speaking of rebuilding,
:04:14. > :04:19.you can see just behind me in the new Alder Hey children's
:04:20. > :04:23.children here. It will be turned into a park, the new hospital will
:04:24. > :04:24.be opened in 2015. A man's been charged with murder
:04:25. > :04:25.after a woman's body was found in the garden of a house in Leigh
:04:26. > :04:27.yesterday. 57`year`old Thomas Flanagan

:06:14. > :06:16.But no official record was made and so the deal wasn't subjected to
:06:17. > :06:24.The details have only become public following an internal audit.
:06:25. > :06:32.The opposition Conservative Group on the council are livid.
:06:33. > :06:44.I am appalled. When you look at what we are having to do it with the most
:06:45. > :06:50.abominable in our city, and they are prepared to prop up a rugby club, a
:06:51. > :06:56.private rugby club. What would you like to see happen? I want the mayor
:06:57. > :06:58.to come forward and admit he was wrong.
:06:59. > :07:00.It's true Salford, in common with all councils, is supposedly
:07:01. > :07:05.This year the council needs to save a further ?24.5 million.
:07:06. > :07:07.So why would it want to put money into the Salford Red Devils?
:07:08. > :07:24.they are part owners of the stadium. If the rugby club go bust, they lose
:07:25. > :07:30.their tenant. They lose money coming in. If you look at it
:07:31. > :07:31.picture, they are putting in money to save themselves money.
:07:32. > :07:33.And Salford Council part owns the stadium where the Red Devils play.
:07:34. > :07:34.But there's another feature of this story which has raised eyebrows.
:07:35. > :07:36.Shortly after sealing the match day funding deal, Martin
:07:37. > :07:39.He'd asked for and got voluntary redundancy.
:07:40. > :07:42.He then got a new job ` with the Salford Red Devils.
:07:43. > :07:44.The auditors say in future senior council staff should sign
:07:45. > :07:45.a termination contract limiting their future employment options.
:07:46. > :07:50.He said he hadn't been interviewed as part of the audit process
:07:51. > :07:53.and he didn't want to comment on a report he hadn't seen.
:07:54. > :07:56.I offered to email him a copy but he declined.
:07:57. > :07:57.The Mayor, Ian Stewart was also unavailable.
