:01:10. > :01:19.Six months on from a damning report the Care Quality Commission has

:01:20. > :01:22.found that Alder Hey has issues. Since the previous report, the trust

:01:23. > :01:28.has made significant improvements. There was also praise for accident

:01:29. > :01:37.and emergency and staff. Our health correspondent joins us from Alder

:01:38. > :01:43.Hey. Alder Hey Council for many families every year. For the

:01:44. > :01:46.majority, care is good. But this is a trust which has

:01:47. > :01:53.troubled times. In a report in February it filled in for out of

:01:54. > :02:00.five key areas. Inspectors have been back and it is once again on the

:02:01. > :02:09.spotlight. According to the latest inspection, there have been

:02:10. > :02:15.improvements but the trust must do better. The most important issue we

:02:16. > :02:17.have been facing is our shortage of nursing staff. The report highlights

:02:18. > :02:21.particular concern around the care of children in the high dependency

:02:22. > :02:28.unit. Safety and stabbing still fall short of the required standard. We

:02:29. > :02:33.have appointed a new consultant who is going to lead and we have plans

:02:34. > :02:39.in place to have a further consultants appointed by the end of

:02:40. > :02:42.the year. But it is safe. It is just making it unsafe to excellent. Staff

:02:43. > :02:48.shortages are still a big concern here but it is an issue the trust

:02:49. > :02:54.says it is addressing. Currently we are interviewing for new nurses. I

:02:55. > :03:02.think staff morale is improving. Every year we appoint new staff for

:03:03. > :03:08.the winter period and staff are wanting to stay. The trust has been

:03:09. > :03:12.rated as outstanding for its end of life care, accident and emergency

:03:13. > :03:19.rated as good and staff were recognisable care a compassionate

:03:20. > :03:29.and commitment. `` recognised for. This child was mad life has been

:03:30. > :03:36.saved here. I could not fault it. I have never had a problem with the

:03:37. > :03:43.staff. They seem younger days and bad days. We have received wonderful

:03:44. > :03:47.care. Obviously there are staffing issues which you have all over the

:03:48. > :03:54.place but this If it was not been transferred here

:03:55. > :04:04.and the surgery and good care rebuild confidence and morale. But

:04:05. > :04:13.trust says to improve. Speaking of rebuilding,

:04:14. > :04:19.you can see just behind me in the new Alder Hey children's

:04:20. > :04:23.children here. It will be turned into a park, the new hospital will

:04:24. > :04:24.be opened in 2015. A man's been charged with murder

:04:25. > :04:25.after a woman's body was found in the garden of a house in Leigh

:04:28. > :04:28.from Wigan Road in Leigh is expected to appear before

:05:41. > :05:44.All this has only come to light because

:05:45. > :05:52.Our Chief Reporter, Dave Guest, has more and joins us now.

:06:17. > :06:24.The details have only become public following an internal audit.

:06:25. > :06:32.The opposition Conservative Group on the council are livid.

:06:33. > :06:44.I am appalled. When you look at what we are having to do it with the most

:06:45. > :06:50.abominable in our city, and they are prepared to prop up a rugby club, a

:06:51. > :06:56.private rugby club. What would you like to see happen? I want the mayor

:06:57. > :06:58.to come forward and admit he was wrong.

:06:59. > :07:00.It's true Salford, in common with all councils, is supposedly

:07:01. > :07:05.This year the council needs to save a further ?24.5 million.

:07:06. > :07:07.So why would it want to put money into the Salford Red Devils?

:07:08. > :07:24.they are part owners of the stadium. If the rugby club go bust, they lose

:07:25. > :07:30.their tenant. They lose money coming in. If you look at it

:07:31. > :07:31.picture, they are putting in money to save themselves money.

:07:32. > :07:33.And Salford Council part owns the stadium where the Red Devils play.

:07:34. > :07:34.But there's another feature of this story which has raised eyebrows.

:07:35. > :07:36.Shortly after sealing the match day funding deal, Martin

:07:37. > :07:39.He'd asked for and got voluntary redundancy.

:07:40. > :07:42.He then got a new job ` with the Salford Red Devils.

:07:43. > :07:44.The auditors say in future senior council staff should sign

:07:45. > :07:45.a termination contract limiting their future employment options.

:07:46. > :07:50.He said he hadn't been interviewed as part of the audit process

:07:51. > :07:53.and he didn't want to comment on a report he hadn't seen.

:07:54. > :07:56.I offered to email him a copy but he declined.

:07:57. > :07:57.The Mayor, Ian Stewart was also unavailable.

:07:58. > :08:01."My actions have always been in the best interests of

:08:02. > :08:08.Salford City Council and I will continue to do so."

:08:09. > :08:15.A newlywed couple from Salford have been charged with public order

:08:16. > :08:17.offences ` over a reported row with hotel security staff

:08:18. > :08:20.Nick and Kirsty Bigland were arrested at the Hilton in Manchester

:08:21. > :08:25.The bride and groom were held overnight at a nearby police station

:09:07. > :09:12.And today she set off on what looks to be her final journey For the past

:09:13. > :09:14.few years, a group of sailors have been fighting to save her.

:10:40. > :10:44.lot of support from businesses in Plymouth, and politicians. If we

:10:45. > :10:48.obtain her, which we intend to do, then Plymouth is a viable

:10:49. > :10:51.proposition. Newport says it costs happen only pounds to have the ship

:11:50. > :11:52.With four months still to go Christmas isn't on the minds

:12:06. > :12:18.already we have three separate councils, two in neighbouring towns

:12:19. > :12:27.at one set of lights. And an almighty festive fight. It has left

:12:28. > :12:35.a very sour taste. How did it gets to this? The lights ewes last

:12:36. > :12:41.Christmas, `` the lights were used last Christmas. Then they were given

:12:42. > :12:49.to a neighbouring town. They threatened legal action. Has anyone

:12:50. > :12:59.handled stolen goods here? The way the lights were removed from Croom

:13:00. > :13:12.was unfortunate. . This is about politics. Labour, liberal, whatever,

:13:13. > :13:22.I want the best for the residents of Croom. You think you need these

:13:23. > :13:28.lights? Absolutely. It is a good thing that they are given to

:13:29. > :13:35.Nantwich because they are given to Nantwich. A temporary home for these

:13:36. > :13:43.decorations is here at Nantwich's all. You can see some of

:13:44. > :13:49.decorations and it appears that after months

:13:50. > :13:59.owns them and where they should be put up some goodwill has come. ``

:14:00. > :14:04.months of Rowling. We think that we will not be needing them and

:14:05. > :14:14.Nantwich. It seems that a touch of festive spirit has, in the end,

:14:15. > :14:21.sparked a solution. I went to the dentist today and I did not see any

:14:22. > :14:23.Christmas lights. I am sure they will get it sorted. For months to

:14:24. > :14:34.go. A disappointing night for all of our
