:00:11. > :00:13.Fears for Salford aid worker Alan Henning,

:00:14. > :00:15.the latest hostage threatendd with execution by Islamic State.

:00:16. > :00:18.A very ordinary guy, a taxi driver, a father, a keen fisherman,

:00:19. > :00:20.and someone who just wanted to help Syrians.

:00:21. > :00:22.We speak to a BBC reporter who filmed hhm

:00:23. > :00:29.Doing her dream job, a coroner hears how a zookeeper in Culbria

:00:30. > :00:35.All the signs suggest the Scottish independence referendum will be

:00:36. > :00:38.a very close call, so why is the small Cheshird village

:00:39. > :00:44.And a real Cliff hanger, whx war veteran Cliff Dadson decided to

:00:45. > :01:05.Those who know him say he's an ordinary man who was compelled

:01:06. > :01:09.Described by his friends tonight as the best of the best,

:01:10. > :01:12.Alan Henning, a taxi driver from Salford and father of two, is the

:01:13. > :01:15.latest British hostage to appear in a video released by Islamic state.

:01:16. > :01:19.Alan was captured around Christmas but over the weekend

:01:20. > :01:23.According to the Foreign Secretary, his family is going through hell.

:01:24. > :01:36.This is how Alan Henning's family wants the world and in parthcular

:01:37. > :01:43.his captors to see him. As ` man who simply wanted to help those in need.

:01:44. > :01:46.At the end of last year, thd BBC filmed the taxi driver as hd

:01:47. > :01:51.prepared for an aid mission to Syria. He'd been there before, and

:01:52. > :01:54.was going back to take more humanitarian supplies. But 30

:01:55. > :01:59.minutes after crossing the Syrian border, he was kidnapped. Now his

:02:00. > :02:04.captors say he will be killdd unless the demands of the so`called Islamic

:02:05. > :02:07.State are met. Alan Henning's family are going through hell at the

:02:08. > :02:14.moment. It is a terrible tile for them. We are doing everything that

:02:15. > :02:19.we can to protect him. But they understand, because we have

:02:20. > :02:22.explained to them in detail, they understand the limitations of our

:02:23. > :02:27.abilities. We are not showing the video of Allen released at the

:02:28. > :02:30.weekend. In it, he is wearing an orange jumpsuit while a masked man

:02:31. > :02:37.stands over him and makes this threat. If you, Cameron, persist in

:02:38. > :02:44.fighting the Islamic State, venue like Obama will have the blood of

:02:45. > :02:47.your people on the hands. Wd will have a form of dialogue, we will not

:02:48. > :02:53.negotiate with terrorists. While there is dialogue ongoing, there is

:02:54. > :02:58.hope that we could have a dhfferent outcome. For those who know Alan

:02:59. > :03:02.Henning, who used to chat to him breakfast, this is not about global

:03:03. > :03:10.security or world politics, it is about a good man who was trxing to

:03:11. > :03:13.help. Before Christmas, I h`d a last chat with him, that he was going to

:03:14. > :03:19.take an ambulance for whatever he was capturing, good and things, for

:03:20. > :03:22.refugees. While Alan Henning's family has asked for privacx, his

:03:23. > :03:26.friends have described him `s the best of the best.

:03:27. > :03:32.I am joined now by Catrin Nxe who works for the Asian network and

:03:33. > :03:36.filmed with Alan Henning as he prepared to go out with the convoy

:03:37. > :03:42.to Syria, thank you for spe`king to us about this. We heard that friends

:03:43. > :03:48.said he was the best of the best. You met him, what impression did you

:03:49. > :03:54.get of him? Well, he was a very funny man. While we were packing, he

:03:55. > :03:57.was constantly telling jokes and keeping everyone entertained and

:03:58. > :04:02.that is what people who know him and went on the convoy with him have

:04:03. > :04:07.said about him as well. That he was very kind, incredibly generous,

:04:08. > :04:11.incredibly selfless man who only thought about others and not about

:04:12. > :04:15.himself. I actually met him as Gadget, which is his nicknale,

:04:16. > :04:23.because of his fondness and talent for gadgetry which is very tseful in

:04:24. > :04:26.convoys like this. Was therd any element of fear going out on these

:04:27. > :04:34.convoys? You wanted to go and help people, but was he aware of the

:04:35. > :04:37.dangers? When I met him, he had been on one convoy already and w`s

:04:38. > :04:43.preparing to go on another `nd another. First off, he had been

:04:44. > :04:47.inspired by friends who had been on these convoys and had been hn and

:04:48. > :04:50.out of Syria safely. He had seen them go, he had been impressed by

:04:51. > :04:56.what they had done, the charity work he had done, and he had been himself

:04:57. > :05:03.and had what he described as a life altering experience. The picture

:05:04. > :05:07.that we see of him is in a refugee camp in Syria, he described the

:05:08. > :05:12.children and orphans that hd met, and these convoys allow people to

:05:13. > :05:15.take aid for the UK `` from the UK and take it to people who are

:05:16. > :05:20.desperate for it. He had an experience he could not forget. When

:05:21. > :05:27.I met him he was talking about a, you can understand why he w`nted to

:05:28. > :05:32.go back. People talk about not being able to come back, they know the

:05:33. > :05:37.dangers. I asked a friend of Allen's the convoy leader on his

:05:38. > :05:41.convoy, if he had said he w`s scared before he went in and he sahd, no,

:05:42. > :05:45.he had been before and he w`nted to go again and it was only other

:05:46. > :05:53.convoy members who dissent `` concerned for his safety. Wd have

:05:54. > :05:57.been speaking to Kathleen, his friends, `` to people like his

:05:58. > :06:01.friends, what do they feel `bout his kidnap? They are obviously very

:06:02. > :06:05.concerned and everyone is jtst hoping that things work out for

:06:06. > :06:07.him, basically. That there hs a positive outcome. Thank you very

:06:08. > :06:12.much for coming in. Police are investigating

:10:17. > :10:20.I don't see new houses, I sde This school left me scarred

:10:21. > :10:27.for life. There's more from Michael

:10:28. > :10:30.and other victims of Knowl View in tomorrow's edition of File

:10:31. > :10:34.on Four on BBC Radio Four. Before that, tonight here on BBC1

:10:35. > :10:37.at 7.30 I'll be reporting for Inside Out and catching up with

:10:38. > :10:41.the whistleblower who first helped us bring the scandal to public

:10:42. > :10:50.attention nearly 20 years ago. An inquest has been told

:10:51. > :10:52.a defective bolt was found on a door inside a tiger enclosure

:10:53. > :10:55.when it was inspected shortly Sarah McClay died after being

:10:56. > :11:01.attacked at the South Lakes Wild The inquest also heard no concerns

:11:02. > :11:06.had ever been raised about the condition or design

:11:07. > :11:09.of the enclosure. Peter Marshall joins us

:11:10. > :11:26.from the inquest in Kendal. Just tell us what more we hdard

:11:27. > :11:31.about the Echo incident tod`y. We heard that Sarah McClay was 24 years

:11:32. > :11:35.old, she had worked at the South Lakes Wild Animal Park for over two

:11:36. > :11:41.years as an animal carer went on May 24 last year, she was attacked by

:11:42. > :11:46.Issa March Tiger, `` by a Stmatran tiger. She died from multiple

:11:47. > :11:51.injuries to her neck, back, arm and legs and those injuries werd not

:11:52. > :11:56.able to be survived, accordhng to the home office pathologist carried

:11:57. > :12:01.out the exam in addition. She also said the injuries were conshstent

:12:02. > :12:06.with an attack by a tiger and Sarah being dragged across the enclosure

:12:07. > :12:10.floor. We also heard from a senior officer in Barrow Borough Council

:12:11. > :12:15.who took part in a health and safety investigation afterwards, what did

:12:16. > :12:20.they have to say? Firstly, to help the jury understand the layout of

:12:21. > :12:25.the tiger enclosure, they rhsk go `` shown a scale model which showed how

:12:26. > :12:28.animal areas and staff errors were kept separated by a series of doors

:12:29. > :12:34.and sliding panels. Then we heard evidence from Borough Counchl by an

:12:35. > :12:37.inspector who took part in `n inspection, he said he found a bolt

:12:38. > :12:41.on one door which separated the tiger area from the start area was

:12:42. > :12:48.defective so the door would not rest snugly in its frame, there was a

:12:49. > :12:52.small gap. When questioned, he accepted it was impossible to know

:12:53. > :12:56.when the bolt became defecthve, whether it was before, during or

:12:57. > :12:59.after the incident. He said there was never any concern about the

:13:00. > :13:04.design of the tiger enclosure, and there was a 4 `` an inspecthon for

:13:05. > :13:09.days before the incident whdre no concerns were raised. There wasn't a

:13:10. > :13:14.statement `` there was a st`tement from Sarah's mother? Yes, she said

:13:15. > :13:17.that her daughter was doing her dream job when she died, thd job she

:13:18. > :13:21.had dream of doing since shd visited the park as the young girl. She also

:13:22. > :13:26.referenced controversy afterwards when the tiger was not destroyed,

:13:27. > :13:29.that is absolutely not what Sarah would have wanted, she said, she

:13:30. > :13:30.would not have blamed the thger for what had happened. Tomorrow, the

:13:31. > :13:33.jury visits the site. With their eye on the prize,

:13:34. > :13:38.the Merseyside Nighthawks swoop in to win a British version

:13:39. > :13:43.of the Super Bowl. And also, flying high,

:13:44. > :13:45.we meet Cliff who's taken up As we were climbing up I thought to

:13:46. > :13:55.myself, whatever am I doing here? The independence debate is

:13:56. > :14:02.the hot topic north of the border with polls predicting it'll be neck

:14:03. > :14:07.and neck come Thursday. Here in the North West one village

:14:08. > :14:13.is flying the flag Mollington

:14:14. > :14:29.in Cheshire is adorned with Union A message from Mollington ndar

:14:30. > :14:38.Chester. They say they want Scots to be brave, not full party. ``

:14:39. > :14:44.foolhardy. As the referendul date comes, the village is festooned with

:14:45. > :14:47.flags. We have a very strong opinion and I know that we represent

:14:48. > :14:50.thousands and thousands of thousands of villagers right across the

:14:51. > :14:59.region, if not the country. They have had no say whatsoever.

:15:00. > :15:02.Mollington is 500 miles frol John O'Groats. Despite the distance,

:15:03. > :15:08.summer in the world. It is very Scottish. We want them with us, our

:15:09. > :15:13.island nature is better in which to buy all sorts of different cultural

:15:14. > :15:17.identities around us. And Fhona s campaign has taken. More th`n 6

:15:18. > :15:21.homes in Mollington are currently flying either the union flag of the

:15:22. > :15:29.St Andrews fly, and in some cases those, including Angus. His name

:15:30. > :15:34.gives it away, a long`time Scottish exile. 50 years ago, I would have

:15:35. > :15:42.voted yes. But at my age now, no way would I even consider voting for

:15:43. > :15:48.them to go to Scotland. My husband mounted a ladder and nailed it to

:15:49. > :15:52.the Scots pine, we thought ht was appropriate. Back on the grden and

:15:53. > :15:56.by sheer coincidence, Scotthsh visitors. We thought, they have got

:15:57. > :16:00.the flag out for us! Then wd realised what it was about, we

:16:01. > :16:07.thought it was lovely. And hf the vote goes the way of the unhon? We

:16:08. > :16:08.will be celebrating with a large glass of scotch, facing north and

:16:09. > :16:21.raising our glasses. Let's go on to sport, flags also

:16:22. > :16:23.flying at Old Trafford yestdrday. Even the keyword is being spoken

:16:24. > :16:29.about? It is, Louis van Gaal mentioned the

:16:30. > :16:35.word title. A change from a couple of weeks ago! It is after w`tching

:16:36. > :16:39.his side thrashed QPR 4`0. This is what he said after the match. If it

:16:40. > :16:43.is not this year, then the second and third year I want to give the

:16:44. > :16:46.championship to the fans. It was only one win but there was `

:16:47. > :16:50.different feeling around Old Trafford yesterday. In no slall part

:16:51. > :16:53.down to the performance of @ngel Di Maria who was in sparkling form He

:16:54. > :16:57.got them up and running with the opening hole and was instrulental

:16:58. > :17:03.throughout. Herrera also got his first goal for the club. Waxne

:17:04. > :17:13.Rooney and one matter `` and Juan Mata said the threat got `` they got

:17:14. > :17:17.goals. We are very happy about the results, the goals that we lade but

:17:18. > :17:22.also in the second half, we made a lot of, we created a lot of chances

:17:23. > :17:27.and I am pleased about that. It must have been a stranger turn, `nd not

:17:28. > :17:34.very good for Rio Ferdinand to Old Trafford. `` strange return. But he

:17:35. > :17:38.has been speaking about Davhd Moyes? Yes, he is now playing for PPR, he

:17:39. > :17:43.was presented with a gift bx Sir Bobby Charlton. To celebratd 12

:17:44. > :17:49.years at United. He is not very come to mention the about David Loyes,

:17:50. > :17:50.saying his innovations led to negativity and confusion.

:17:51. > :17:53.In the Championship, Blackpool fans chanted their support for m`nager

:17:54. > :17:56.Jose Riga as the Tangerines earned their first point of the se`son

:17:57. > :17:58.Pool climbed off the bottom of the Championship thanks to

:17:59. > :18:03.Riga almost lost his job last week, but many supporters made it clear

:18:04. > :18:08.Blackburn moved up to eighth, beating Wigan 3`1.

:18:09. > :18:11.Two of Rovers' goals came from Man of the Match, Ben Marshall.

:18:12. > :18:14.And Crewe claimed their first win of the season,

:18:15. > :18:20.beating Port Vale 2`1, but @lex remain bottom of Division One.

:18:21. > :18:23.Superleague, and it looked `s though it had slipped away,

:18:24. > :18:25.but after the final set of regular fixtures St Helens sit

:18:26. > :18:29.Congratulations to Saints for winning the League Leaders Shield.

:18:30. > :18:31.One place behind them are last season's Grand

:18:32. > :18:34.Final winners Wigan who'll kick off the play`off matches this wdek at

:18:35. > :18:40.Saints face Castleford Tigers at Langtree Park on Friday.

:18:41. > :18:43.Then there's a mouth`watering local derby between Warrington and

:18:44. > :18:49.And as the skipper of the Champions explains, the play`offs is when the

:18:50. > :18:55.It'll be different to the rdgular season, I think everyone knows how

:18:56. > :19:01.More than likely they're gohng to be quite low scoring games compared

:19:02. > :19:07.Everyone's focus now is really down to the grand final opportunity,

:19:08. > :19:15.From rugby league to another sport with an oval shaped ball,

:19:16. > :19:19.The game's gradually becoming more popular here in the North Wdst,

:19:20. > :19:22.and this weekend the Merseyside Nighthawks took

:19:23. > :19:24.on Edinburgh Wolves in a national final, the most hmportant

:19:25. > :19:29.Called Brit Bowl, it may not have had the glitz

:19:30. > :19:32.and glamour of the Super Bowl, but it was a real cliffhangdr with

:19:33. > :19:43.An amateur squad that included students, engineers,

:19:44. > :19:49.Shouldn't have had that pasta this morning.

:19:50. > :19:57.The club's been around sincd 19 6 but never has it had such stccess.

:19:58. > :20:01.I think to compare us with the Super Bowl is a bit much.

:20:02. > :20:03.I think where we are we just need to keep going.

:20:04. > :20:06.Hopefully, it will improve the fan base and all sport's

:20:07. > :20:10.improved by having more people watching and supporting thel.

:20:11. > :20:13.Watched every match so far during the season so we look forward

:20:14. > :20:19.The Merseyside players are doing their warm`ups as are the Edinburgh

:20:20. > :20:21.players at the other side of the pitch.

:20:22. > :20:24.The Edinburgh players will be coming across some pretty big men,

:20:25. > :20:35.If these men say it's Sundax, it's Sunday, isn't it, boys?

:20:36. > :20:37.Edinburgh started well, a touchdown gave them

:20:38. > :20:41.an early 6`point lead adding another point with the resulting kick.

:20:42. > :20:43.But American football matchds last hours so there's always timd

:20:44. > :20:48.Merseyside did that, and from then, it was anybody's match.

:20:49. > :20:51.The Nighthawks need to pull it out, they need to punch it
