:00:21. > :00:23.The paranoid schizophrenic hopes to exploit a loophole in thd law.

:00:24. > :00:42.The hospital proposals affecting nearly three million people.

:00:43. > :00:50.It is not about downgrading AMD 's `` accident in emergencies, it is

:00:51. > :01:11.about upgrading them. A man who stabbed his partndr

:01:12. > :01:15.and young son to death has launched a court battle to get a share

:01:16. > :01:17.of the dead woman's money. Paul Chadwick is currently being

:01:18. > :01:20.held at a secure mental health unit but was allowed out today to

:01:21. > :01:23.argue his case in court. Our Chief Reporter Dave

:01:24. > :01:27.Guest has the story. Lisa Clay and her little box Joseph

:01:28. > :01:31.were stabbed to death in thdir own home in the Lancashire vill`ge of

:01:32. > :01:33.Bolton`le`Sands in April last year. He was Lisa's partner

:01:34. > :01:37.of 11 years and Joseph's dad. He admitted manslaughter

:01:38. > :01:39.on the grounds of diminished responsibility and is currently

:01:40. > :01:41.detained in a secure unit. But now Chadwick wants to gdt his

:01:42. > :01:44.hands on the money Lisa left behind. Most of Lisa's money was tidd up

:01:45. > :01:47.in the house they shared. Chadwick's already entitled to half

:01:48. > :01:50.of the sale value Now he wants the rest,

:01:51. > :01:53.plus other cash totalling ?80,0 0. He appeared at the High Court in

:01:54. > :01:56.Manchester today to stake hhs claim. Lisa's aunt Greta Squires told

:01:57. > :02:12.the court Chadwick's mental health For the process to continue and the

:02:13. > :02:20.grieving period never to end is causing significant upset.

:02:21. > :02:23.Most of Lisa's money was tidd up in the house they shared.

:02:24. > :02:25.Chadwick's already entitled to half of the sale value

:02:30. > :02:35.He appeared at the High Court in Manchester today to stake hhs claim.

:02:36. > :02:46.The law says that those responsible for Mansell at cannot benef`ctors

:02:47. > :02:52.from it. In court, he said `t the time he killed Lisa and Josdph, he

:02:53. > :03:00.was very, very unwell. It is also been said that Lisa made hil a

:03:01. > :03:04.beneficiary her well. But they said the will was irrelevant and drawn up

:03:05. > :03:08.long before Lisa could have contemplated her fate. He s`id the

:03:09. > :03:12.court had a duty to bear in mind the wishes of the family and thd wishes

:03:13. > :03:19.of the family where that Ch`dwick should not benefit from the estate.

:03:20. > :03:23.The judge will deliver his decision on Wednesday.

:03:24. > :03:26.The Labour Party conference is in full swing in Manchester with

:03:27. > :03:27.the party outlining its economic strategy today.

:03:28. > :03:30.Party members are focused on how to win next year's general election.

:03:31. > :03:32.But the first electoral test will be the

:03:33. > :03:34.Heywood and Middleton by`eldction in just over a fortnight.

:03:35. > :03:47.Our Political Editor Arif Ansari joins us from the conferencd.

:03:48. > :03:55.Labour's officially launched its campaign for the by`election today.

:03:56. > :04:00.Labour have speeded up the process for this by`election as thex are

:04:01. > :04:08.worried that you kept could gain momentum if they don't `` UKIP. The

:04:09. > :04:11.funeral took place over the weekend and we are hearing rumours that some

:04:12. > :04:16.within the local party have resigned because they are angry at the fact

:04:17. > :04:21.they weren't able to get local names on the candidates list so t`ke over

:04:22. > :04:25.and stand as their official candidate. Their official c`ndidate

:04:26. > :04:34.was launched today and she hs putting public services at the heart

:04:35. > :04:35.of her campaign. Jim was a great supporter of the

:04:36. > :04:40.I've spent over 30 years working for the NHS.

:04:41. > :04:42.I've worked at Crumpsall Hospital and the Royal Northern Hosphtal

:04:43. > :04:45.both of which are hospitals that have served this area.

:04:46. > :04:49.I know the area well and I know what the people

:04:50. > :04:53.in the communities are like here and I know what makes them tick and I

:04:54. > :05:07.Interesting did you talk about the unrest. How worried is Labotr about

:05:08. > :05:12.the election because it shotld be a safe seat in 3`D?

:05:13. > :05:16.That's right. I think Labour is quite worried because those people I

:05:17. > :05:30.spoke to last certainly concerned about it. There are five

:05:31. > :05:32.candidates, five party standing it will be tightly fought parthcularly

:05:33. > :05:40.between Labour and... Meanwhile, a Labour veteran

:05:41. > :05:43.from the North West took his final It's his last time

:05:44. > :05:55.at the conference as a Labotr MP. Please will you acknowledge

:05:56. > :06:15.the presence of Jack Straw? A poignant moment for Mr Straw. His

:06:16. > :06:17.son is standing in the north`west and we may be speaking to hhm on the

:06:18. > :06:21.programme tomorrow. A former police officer has told the

:06:22. > :06:24.new Hillsborough inquests that match commander, Chief Supt Duckenfield,

:06:25. > :06:27.was "out of his depth." William Crawford,

:06:28. > :06:29.who patrolled the Leppings Lane end, criticised the level of polhce

:06:30. > :06:36.manpower at the stadium on the day. But that section of

:06:37. > :06:38.his original statement was removed. Two men have been arrested

:06:39. > :06:40.on suspicion of murdering a Lancashire teenager who h`s been

:06:41. > :06:43.missing for seven years. Paige Chivers was 15

:06:44. > :06:45.when she disappeared in the Bispham Her body has never been found

:06:46. > :06:49.but today police were searching addresses in Kincraig Place

:06:50. > :06:52.and Duncan Avenue. The men,

:06:53. > :06:53.aged 45 and 59 from Blackpool, Thousands of elderly

:06:54. > :07:03.and vulnerable people in thd North West are being conned out of

:07:04. > :07:08.their life savings by postal scams. tonight,

:07:09. > :07:12.speak to the daughter of ond victim from the region, who receivdd 3 ,000

:07:13. > :07:20.scam letters over five years. A public consultation on major

:07:21. > :07:24.changes to Accident and Emergency care across Greater Manchester is

:07:25. > :07:29.entering its final week. The plans could mean seriously ill

:07:30. > :07:31.patients are treated in one of a few specialist centres,

:07:32. > :07:34.rather than at their local @ccident Those behind the Healthier Together

:07:35. > :07:39.campaign say it will save lhves But opponents claim

:07:40. > :07:42.the ?4 million consultation has been Joining us now is our Health

:07:43. > :07:46.Correspondent, Elaine Dunkldy. This is the Healthier Together

:07:47. > :07:49.consultation and it affects 2.8 million people

:07:50. > :07:54.in Greater Manchester. So far, 10,000 people have filled

:07:55. > :07:57.out this form to decide on which hospitals should treat the lost

:07:58. > :08:03.serious cases of injury or trauma. Hospitals specialising

:08:04. > :08:06.is nothing new. Across Merseyside and Cheshhre,

:08:07. > :08:09.if you suffer a major head hnjury, you will be taken to the

:08:10. > :08:13.Walton Centre which provides neurological care and there's the

:08:14. > :08:15.Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. But in Greater Manchester the plan

:08:16. > :08:18.is proving controversial thdre are concerns about downgrading

:08:19. > :08:22.hospitals, travelling furthdr for medical treatment and of cotrse the

:08:23. > :08:30.cost of implementing the ch`nges. It could be the biggest shake`up

:08:31. > :08:33.of health care in Greater M`nchester From hospitals to Hindu temples

:08:34. > :08:39.Healthier Together has been campaigning for change

:08:40. > :08:48.and it's controversial. Under the proposals, Salford,

:08:49. > :08:51.Oldham and Manchester Royal Infirmary will automaticallx be

:08:52. > :09:06.specialist hospitals. It is not about closing A

:09:07. > :09:10.departments or downgrading them it is about upgrading emergencx care

:09:11. > :09:14.right across greater Manchester We need that care to be providdd 2 /7

:09:15. > :09:17.throughout the year. Raising standards and with ht the

:09:18. > :09:20.chance of survival is a key issue. According to Healthier Together

:09:21. > :09:22.only a third of hospitals has a consultant

:09:23. > :09:33.present in A seven days a week. If you go to one hospital, his

:09:34. > :09:40.chances of survival are thrde times greater than in the least wdll

:09:41. > :09:43.performing hospital. That is truly shocking and unacceptable and we

:09:44. > :09:48.know the same variation applies in so many other services.

:09:49. > :09:52.The next thing I can remembdr is waking up, two or three weeks later.

:09:53. > :09:56.Two weeks ago, Pete Lovett was in a coma after being hit bx a car.

:09:57. > :10:00.He had suffered major head hnjuries but instead of going to his local

:10:01. > :10:13.To be around so many professionals that concentrate on that ond area

:10:14. > :10:18.can only be a good thing for me The public are being asked to

:10:19. > :10:20.consider whether Wythenshawd, Stepping Hill,

:10:21. > :10:22.Bolton and Wigan should also become specialist, but there is concern

:10:23. > :10:35.that Healthier Together has been We've got a hugely expensivd

:10:36. > :10:46.consultation paper that is hard to in won `` understand. We ard working

:10:47. > :10:48.for the benefit of Greater Manchester.

:10:49. > :10:50.With pressures on Accident and Emergency there needs to be

:10:51. > :11:04.change but is this the right treatment for our local hospitals?

:11:05. > :11:17.Is that the right treatment? Absolutely. All the doctors, the

:11:18. > :11:23.hospital doctors and GPs, agree that by working together and pulling our

:11:24. > :11:28.expertise, experience and skills, we can improve care, save even more

:11:29. > :11:37.lives and do that seven days a week. Some people may ask why are

:11:38. > :11:41.hospitals not good enough jtst now? People who work in accident and

:11:42. > :11:46.emergency, the doctors and nurses, are doing their best in providing

:11:47. > :11:50.good care. But that could bd better, they believe, and by pooling our

:11:51. > :11:56.expertise, working together, we can save even more lives and attract

:11:57. > :12:00.more people to Greater Manchester. More doctors and nurses to work

:12:01. > :12:05.here. What about the hospitals th`t are in

:12:06. > :12:15.specialist, what will they get? They would be able to attract thd best

:12:16. > :12:21.and most be seen as substandard No, this is about providing greater

:12:22. > :12:25.care across seven days a wedk. If you come in on Saturday evening or

:12:26. > :12:28.Sunday or even Monday morning, you will have more chance of seding a

:12:29. > :12:33.senior doctor and all the evidence shows that if you sure a more senior

:12:34. > :12:37.doctor you have a better ch`nce of surviving and will get more care.

:12:38. > :12:43.This consultation, 10,000 pdople have filled it out. Nearly 3 million

:12:44. > :12:52.could have. It cost ?4 millhon to produce so that means each one of

:12:53. > :12:56.these cost ?400. That can't be good use of money.

:12:57. > :12:59.People are still responding to the consultation and it is important

:13:00. > :13:02.they do. You must be disappointed by the

:13:03. > :13:04.number of people and the waste of money.

:13:05. > :13:12.No, lots of people are still responding. Responses are coming and

:13:13. > :13:18.all the time. It is really hmportant that the GPs who make these

:13:19. > :13:27.decisions hear what people think. It is our NHS. Thank you for coming

:13:28. > :13:30.in. We will hear more on thhs subject on tomorrow night's

:13:31. > :13:38.programme and for the rest of the week.

:13:39. > :13:40.Police believe human remains which were discovered by a dog walker in

:13:41. > :13:43.Whitworth at the weekend cotld be a missing 31`year`old man frol

:13:44. > :13:45.Rossendale. Heath Nield dis`ppeared from home in Bacup in July.

:13:46. > :13:48.Lancashire Police says officers are in the process of recovering the

:13:49. > :13:51.body which appears to have been there for some time. Mr Nield's

:13:52. > :13:57.The go`ahead?s been given for a direct train service from Blackpool

:13:58. > :14:00.to London. The Office of Rahl Regulation gave Virgin permhssion to

:14:01. > :14:08.run a return trip every weekday The service is due to start in December.

:14:09. > :14:11.Still to come on North West Tonight: Throwing it all away ` LVG needs

:14:12. > :14:17.some TLC after United's shock defeat at Leicester.

:14:18. > :14:39.And saved by the bell ` how rescuers got Henry out of a hole.

:14:40. > :14:42.There's still no news tonight on the fate of Salford taxi driver Alan

:14:43. > :14:44.Henning. The 47`year`old father`of`two was kidnapped by

:14:45. > :14:47.Islamic State in Syria and hn a video last weekend they thrdatened

:14:48. > :14:56.to kill him. Yesterday, Alan's wife made an impassioned plea for his

:14:57. > :14:58.release, describing him as ` "peaceful and selfless man". Today,

:14:59. > :15:02.one of his friends has calldd on the Government to do more to help him.

:15:03. > :15:05.Earlier, I spoke to Dr Shamdela Islam`Zulfiqar and she gave me her

:15:06. > :15:08.reaction to seeing him in the video. Up until now, we didn't know if he

:15:09. > :15:12.was alive, didn't know what had happened to him, and all of a sudden

:15:13. > :15:20.to see him the way he was in that picture in the desert, lookhng gaunt

:15:21. > :15:23.and tired and frightened, it's been horrific to see that. We he`rd

:15:24. > :15:25.yesterday, Alan's wife Barbra making a direct appeal for his reldase How

:15:26. > :15:31.difficult has it been for the family and does it continue to be for her

:15:32. > :15:38.It is incredibly difficult because there is so much

:15:39. > :15:45.uncertainty around what is going on. What we are appealing for is that

:15:46. > :15:58.the government pull out all the stops and do whatever they can. And

:15:59. > :16:00.Do you wish they would pay a ransol if that

:16:01. > :16:04.is what it would take? At the end of the day, I'm not suggesting that

:16:05. > :16:06.something that has to be done to secure the release of hostages.

:16:07. > :16:10.Clearly, in the past, that hs not what has happened. There has been

:16:11. > :16:12.other negotiations and other forms of dialogue that have securdd the

:16:13. > :16:15.release of other nations'. The French, the Italians, other people

:16:16. > :16:18.have got hostages out. It is whether our government is open to h`ve

:16:19. > :16:21.dialogue with these people to try and secure a safe release. How

:16:22. > :16:24.helpful do you think it was over the last few days that leading figures

:16:25. > :16:27.in the Muslim community havd made a direct appeal on Alan's beh`lf? We

:16:28. > :16:33.hope that is something diffdrent in the case of the other hostages. They

:16:34. > :16:47.will see that this guy really is what everyone is talking about. He

:16:48. > :16:53.a normal, decent human being. A guy that we can all identify with and a

:16:54. > :17:07.guy with a heart of gold th`t just went out there with the right

:17:08. > :17:11.You have to almost block yourself off, don't

:17:12. > :17:14.you, from rumours that swirl around the internet these days. Thdre was

:17:15. > :17:21.one on Saturday night. You have to clutch onto the fact that nothing is

:17:22. > :17:25.We take each day as it comes. @s far as

:17:26. > :17:28.we are concerned, there has been no confirmation of these rumours. We

:17:29. > :17:31.hope there will be a positive outcome here and that he will come

:17:32. > :17:43.home safely to us all. Thank you very much indeed. You're welcome.

:17:44. > :17:52.Richard's here with the sport now, and Manchester City fought back well

:17:53. > :17:55.yesterday, but Manchester United suffered an incredible coll`pse

:17:56. > :17:58.They did. They were attacking so well early on as well. As dhd City

:17:59. > :18:02.who drew 1`1 with title riv`ls Chelsea and even this early in the

:18:03. > :18:05.season it felt like an important point. It lifts City to sixth in the

:18:06. > :18:08.table, but they're still five points adrift of Chelsea. City are the only

:18:09. > :18:12.North West team in the top half of the table. Yes, United are well down

:18:13. > :18:15.in the bottom half? They ard. This is how the bottom half of the table

:18:16. > :18:18.looks. After yesterday's 5`3 defeat at Leicester, United are down in

:18:19. > :18:21.twelfth place. Liverpool ard just one point above them after they lost

:18:22. > :18:24.3`1 at West Ham. Everton ard in fourteenth after being beatdn by 3`2

:18:25. > :18:27.by Crystal Palace. And Burnley are just off the bottom following their

:18:28. > :18:29.goalless draw with Sunderland. So the Premier League table has a

:18:30. > :18:32.rather depressing look about for most of our teams at the molent

:18:33. > :18:56.With some new signings, and killed the Maria in particular bringing

:18:57. > :19:04.we had the game and our pocket and we gave it away.

:19:05. > :19:10.We need a new defence. We nded to defenders. After that we will be OK.

:19:11. > :19:13.They're not doing the best `t who is at the moment?

:19:14. > :19:23.In contrast, Manchester Citx appear even stronger at the moment. A solid

:19:24. > :19:30.foundation that helped city respond after going one goal down. Wouldn't

:19:31. > :19:36.you know it? A Chelsea legend, now in sky`blue got the equalisdr.

:19:37. > :19:42.It was a strange feeling. It was a great game of football. You do your

:19:43. > :19:50.job. It was a weird day for me. Ever current `` Everton werd

:19:51. > :19:55.expected to beat Crystal Palace but made too many mistakes and both

:19:56. > :20:02.boxes, particularly their own. After a memorable Europa League fhxture in

:20:03. > :20:04.midweek, they will want to forget this.

:20:05. > :20:11.We were disappointing. Next up, the Merseyside derby at

:20:12. > :20:17.Anfield on Saturday. Liverpool will be desperate to respond aftdr eight

:20:18. > :20:29.hourglass in five league gales. 3`1 at West Ham. Perhaps a hangover from

:20:30. > :20:34.the Champions League return. There is goals in the team. I

:20:35. > :20:38.thought there were good signs of that today apart from getting it

:20:39. > :20:41.over the line. With just one gold to shore for

:20:42. > :21:01.their efforts this season so far, Clarets fans hope he is right.

:21:02. > :21:03.Liverpool's Mario Balotelli has said he won't be making a formal

:21:04. > :21:06.complaint to the police aftdr being subjected to racist abuse on social

:21:07. > :21:13.media. The Italian striker received abuse on Twitter after he tweeted

:21:14. > :21:15."Manchester United...Laugh Out Loud" following United's 5`3 defe`t at

:21:16. > :21:17.Leicester. His message was retweeted more than 150,000 times and prompted

:21:18. > :21:20.a string of abusive responsds. In the Championship, Wigan `re

:21:21. > :21:22.hoping to maintain their unbeaten home record this season when they

:21:23. > :21:25.play Ipswich later this evening There's full live commentarx on BBC

:21:26. > :21:28.Radio Manchester. Kickoff is 7: 5pm. In League One, Rochdale and Preston

:21:29. > :21:31.are just below the playoff positions after good wins at the weekdnd, but

:21:32. > :21:34.Crewe are rock bottom after a 6`1 hammering at MK Dons. Bury now lead

:21:35. > :21:37.League Two after knocking Btrton off top spot. They beat Albion 3`1 with

:21:38. > :21:40.Daniel Nardiello scoring twhce. It was a great return to Accrington for

:21:41. > :21:43.John Coleman and a dream debut for the Irish under`21 player John

:21:44. > :21:45.O'Sullivan, who scored twicd as Stanley beat Northampton 5`4.

:21:46. > :21:48.Peter Lim, the Singapore billionaire who tried to buy Liverpool, has

:21:49. > :21:51.bought a 50% share in the EvoStik League side Salford City. G`ry and

:21:52. > :21:56.Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, P`ul Scholes and Nicky Butt alre`dy own

:21:57. > :22:00.half the club. The Class of 92, seen here at a recent charity match, say

:22:01. > :22:06.they now expect exciting tiles for the Division One North outfht.

:22:07. > :22:09.Superleague, and Warrington face Castleford in the next stagd of the

:22:10. > :22:12.playoffs this Friday after staging a great comeback against local rivals

:22:13. > :22:15.Widnes at the weekend. Wolvds were 18`0 down after Kevin Brown created

:22:16. > :22:18.three Vikings tries. But Jodl Monaghan then ran in a hat trick of

:22:19. > :22:26.scores for the Wolves, who won the game 22`19. St. Helens and Wigan are

:22:27. > :22:30.scores for the Wolves, who won the game 22`19. St Helens and Whgan are
