:00:09. > :00:15.Five people are injured - as two houses are destroyed

:00:16. > :00:24.It was like a bomb had gone off. We turned around and there was smoke

:00:25. > :00:27.everywhere. The street remains cordoned off -

:00:28. > :00:38.as the investigation continues. Inseparable in life. The funeral was

:00:39. > :00:47.held for two young cousins killed in an alleged hit-and-run in Oldham.

:00:48. > :00:53.And in memory of Cilla. A new bronze statue of the singer gets the thumbs

:00:54. > :00:59.up from her granddaughter. I love it and she would be amazed to have

:01:00. > :01:04.statue of herself in Liverpool. And getting teenage kicks in blue and

:01:05. > :01:06.white. Everton's younger generation show the City superstar is how to do

:01:07. > :01:16.it. Two people are in hospital tonight -

:01:17. > :01:19.after an explosion wrecked two Three other people were treated

:01:20. > :01:22.for injuries at the scene Neighbours have described

:01:23. > :01:24.how their homes Our Chief Reporter, Dave Guest

:01:25. > :01:44.has been at the scene As we said in the introduction, gas

:01:45. > :01:49.seems to be the culprit but we don't know the sequence of events leading

:01:50. > :01:55.up to the explosion. It was around 1230, just after lunchtime this

:01:56. > :01:59.afternoon, that this quiet street was literally shaken to its

:02:00. > :02:04.foundations by an enormous explosion. The scene of the blast is

:02:05. > :02:12.through in the Merc. When you take a look from the air, you get the cool

:02:13. > :02:17.picture of the devastation caused. A terrace house reduced to ruins in

:02:18. > :02:23.an instant. Neighbours left shocked and below that. It was just like a

:02:24. > :02:26.bomb had gone. The trees shook in my garden and we turned around and

:02:27. > :02:32.there smoke everywhere. Just described the scene as you went

:02:33. > :02:37.down? Just horrible. Smoke and stuff coming from the side. You could

:02:38. > :02:44.smell gas and like an oil burning smell. You could see the neighbours

:02:45. > :02:49.flooding out and you'd it was like a bomb or something. You could see

:02:50. > :02:58.people were injured but I saw one person lathered up and covered in

:02:59. > :03:04.rubble. A scary moment. A woman phoned me hysterical and crying.

:03:05. > :03:10.Neighbours' windows had gone on and I flew down to see how she was. She

:03:11. > :03:14.is a bit shook up. Two and a half hours since the blast happened and

:03:15. > :03:18.the road is now completely cordoned off. The Fire Service have Saint and

:03:19. > :03:24.search dogs to check whether there are any other casualties. Thankfully

:03:25. > :03:28.there were no other casualties found but there was a miraculous escape.

:03:29. > :03:33.This curtain was pulled alive from the wreckage by firefighters. It

:03:34. > :03:37.appears to have suffered some injuries but we're just waiting for

:03:38. > :03:42.the Addis PC and hopefully we can get some treatment. At this stage we

:03:43. > :03:47.suspect it may have been a gas explosion but there is a joint

:03:48. > :03:51.investigation underway by ourselves, the police and national Grid gas

:03:52. > :03:57.that isolating the gas to the property. Houses on either side have

:03:58. > :03:59.been affected by the blast and it is not certain when immediate

:04:00. > :04:08.neighbours will be able to return to their homes. Tonight, two people

:04:09. > :04:14.still ill in hospital. Their identities as yet not released.

:04:15. > :04:18.Cecil Road here remains sealed off and I am told that in the next hour

:04:19. > :04:21.or so they should be lifting vessel traffic can start going through but

:04:22. > :04:25.the investigation into exactly how the explosion was caused will take

:04:26. > :04:26.some time and will of course continue throughout the night and

:04:27. > :04:37.into tomorrow. The funeral has taken place -

:04:38. > :04:40.for two cousins who were killed in an alleged hit-and-run in Oldham

:04:41. > :04:44.on New Year's Eve. Hundreds of people came to pay

:04:45. > :04:47.their respects to the youngsters - Zaneta Krokova - who was 11 -

:04:48. > :04:55.and 12-year-old Helina Kotlarova were holding hands crossing a road -

:04:56. > :04:58.when they were hit by a car. Four men have been charged

:04:59. > :05:04.in relation to their deaths. They were inseparable during their

:05:05. > :05:11.short lives and rarely apart. Today their coffins were taken to a church

:05:12. > :05:20.in Oldham just metres from the hit and run which killed Helina

:05:21. > :05:27.Kotlarova and Zaneta Krokova on New Year's Eve. Something has broken

:05:28. > :05:35.insiders. She was the craziest one out of the sisters, holding them

:05:36. > :05:39.together. Now she is gone and we don't know if we're going to get

:05:40. > :05:44.through it. Neighbours will tell you the generals always wanted to be

:05:45. > :05:50.happy and liked messing around. This was taken shortly before they died.

:05:51. > :05:57.Every picture they are drawn, they are together, and when it happened

:05:58. > :06:09.they were holding hands. They have passed away, so they are soul mates.

:06:10. > :06:11.Mourners stood at the sides and back to the church was soulful. Their

:06:12. > :06:16.favourite songs were played during the hour-long service. The Reverend

:06:17. > :06:24.said he knew the girls personally and often sat around the church. He

:06:25. > :06:29.said they were full of life and warm and generous. The deaths of both

:06:30. > :06:35.cousins affected this community deeply. Helina Kotlarova was 12 and

:06:36. > :06:43.wanted to be a singer, 11-year-old Zaneta Krokova and actress. For

:06:44. > :06:46.Asian people, English people and all religions who support their own, now

:06:47. > :06:52.they are helping hours, we just really want to say thank you because

:06:53. > :06:58.in my country, the girls wouldn't get that much help.

:06:59. > :07:05.After the service a large crowd followed the procession to a

:07:06. > :07:06.crematorium. Four men are in custody after being charged over the

:07:07. > :07:10.incident. The health trust which runs

:07:11. > :07:13.Furness General Hospital in Barrow has appealed to staff to work extra

:07:14. > :07:16.shifts to help cope with mounting The University Hospitals

:07:17. > :07:19.of Morecambe Bay Trust has also commissioned beds in a care home

:07:20. > :07:22.to try and reduced so-called bed Tonight's Inside Out programme

:07:23. > :07:26.on BBC One has been given exclusive access to the hospital to see how it

:07:27. > :07:29.and other health trusts in the region are innovating to try

:07:30. > :07:44.to ease the pressures they face. Daily life in the emergency

:07:45. > :07:52.department at Furness General Hospital is nonstop. More and more

:07:53. > :08:01.patients are coming through the doors. Its this consultant's job to

:08:02. > :08:07.treat them. At the moment we have every single cubicle bar one Phil of

:08:08. > :08:10.patients needing proper assessment. And you have ambulance staff year

:08:11. > :08:15.waiting to get patients transferred so they can get back out on the

:08:16. > :08:20.roads. Exactly. The problem we have this we have not got anywhere for

:08:21. > :08:24.those ambulance patients to be put and consequently ambulances are

:08:25. > :08:29.backing up waiting to hand over patients. Queues build up when beds

:08:30. > :08:33.in the main hospital or blocked by patients that to be discharged but

:08:34. > :08:38.waiting for the dead in a nursing home to be free. The hospital is

:08:39. > :08:43.innovating and has just commissioned 12 of its own beds in a nursing

:08:44. > :08:47.home. Hopefully the trust have beds we can move people to while waiting

:08:48. > :08:51.for the long-term bed, it means we would be able to free up some of the

:08:52. > :08:57.acute beds needed for those medical leap or lay. Bed blocking and how to

:08:58. > :09:04.tackle it is a conundrum occupying innovative minds across the NHS.

:09:05. > :09:10.Faversham house nursing home in Greater Manchester is one of over 40

:09:11. > :09:13.homes and two hospitals in the Trafford area piloting a new system

:09:14. > :09:18.to reduce delays in finding care home beds. Previously were used to

:09:19. > :09:21.have a team who would ring the nursing home on Friday morning and

:09:22. > :09:24.complete the spreadsheet with the available information and e-mail it

:09:25. > :09:31.out to the teams needing to know what beds are available. That gets

:09:32. > :09:36.out of date very quickly. It can be out of date by the time the phone

:09:37. > :09:40.call is finished. This new app gives real-time information on what beds

:09:41. > :09:45.are available and where. That can be updated every minute of every day.

:09:46. > :09:49.The Lancashire company which has developed its believes it could save

:09:50. > :09:54.the NHS millions in lost bed days. We have a vision the discharge

:09:55. > :09:58.coordinator can go down the ward and find the whole and have someone

:09:59. > :10:05.admitted. That gets rid of bed blocking. The pressures faced by the

:10:06. > :10:09.NHS won't ease any time soon but on the front line they are doing all

:10:10. > :10:09.they can to offer quality care to as many as they can.

:10:10. > :10:13.And you can see more from Peter on Inside Out North West Tonight.

:10:14. > :10:18.The former Crewe Alexandra football coach - Barry Bennell -

:10:19. > :10:20.has pleaded not guilty to eight child sex offences,

:10:21. > :10:23.The 63-year-old - who appeared at Chester Crown Court

:10:24. > :10:26.via videolink from HMP Woodhill - has been remanded in custody

:10:27. > :10:37.Police investigating the disappearance of a woman -

:10:38. > :10:40.from Fulwood near Preston 15 months ago - have arrested a man

:10:41. > :10:42.Victoria Cherry was 44 when she disappeared.

:10:43. > :10:50.A public consultation on controversial plans to build

:10:51. > :10:53.thousands of homes on greenbelt land in Greater Manchester ends today.

:10:54. > :10:55.There have been protests by groups unhappy about

:10:56. > :10:59.Four of the five candidates to be Metro Mayor of Greater Manchester -

:11:00. > :11:01.from Labour, the Liberal Democrats, UKIP and the English Democrats -

:11:02. > :11:12.?1.5 million is being given - by Cancer Research UK -

:11:13. > :11:14.to scientists in Liverpool, who are working to develop

:11:15. > :11:28.The money will go to the city's Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre.

:11:29. > :11:31.From Cilla to four lads from Liverpool who shook the world -

:11:32. > :11:34.The Cavern club was the centre of Britain's own brand of rock

:11:35. > :11:42.Today, it celebrated its 60th birthday!

:11:43. > :11:44.It's hard to believe it's six decades since bands including Gerry

:11:45. > :11:47.and the Pacemakers and the Searchers graced its tiny stage.

:11:48. > :11:50.So, what is the Cavern's legacy and how does it continue to impact

:11:51. > :11:55.Let's take a walk down memory lane - or Mathew Street as it's known

:11:56. > :12:03.with our Merseyside reporter, Andy Gill.

:12:04. > :12:13.You are inside that iconic venue. That's right, we had in front of the

:12:14. > :12:17.stage at the Cavern with preparations underway for the

:12:18. > :12:22.festivities, this TV creation of the original stage a few doors down, but

:12:23. > :12:30.you feel the pull of Mercy musical memories and not just by the

:12:31. > :12:41.Beatles, there are posters all around various bands, the Kinks, Rod

:12:42. > :12:45.Stewart, Queen. There have been events throughout the day to

:12:46. > :12:47.commemorate 60 years of this iconic venue as Mark Edwardson now tells

:12:48. > :13:01.us. Out of the Have emerged a new sound.

:13:02. > :13:09.And that swept the world, I was in and out the place like a yo-yo. As a

:13:10. > :13:21.band manager, jewel was part of the furniture in the 1960s. He was there

:13:22. > :13:25.and can remember it. When Brian Epstein first signed them, his

:13:26. > :13:29.parents were worried about him. They wanted to discuss Brian hanging

:13:30. > :13:34.around the town, so I made a promise I would stick with it and we weren't

:13:35. > :13:47.buddies and did lots of things together. Visitors to Matthew Street

:13:48. > :13:53.are often confused. There is a cover Cavern club, but there is no

:13:54. > :13:58.confusion for Simon who says punk wouldn't have happened without the

:13:59. > :14:07.clash of cultures. We changed music but there are parallels.

:14:08. > :14:18.In today's packed club, a blast from the past with the fab three. And

:14:19. > :14:24.more than a hint of yesterday. You have taken your love of the 1960s

:14:25. > :14:28.Dewi whole new level? This is how I dress. It's not even a special

:14:29. > :14:36.occasion dress, this is how I dress. Many avid Beatles fans are too young

:14:37. > :14:42.to remember them as a unit, including this couple married today

:14:43. > :14:50.and celebrating. She wanted to marry John Lennon but... She got their six

:14:51. > :14:54.nothing I can do! And as legacies go, let's all it's a long and

:14:55. > :15:00.winding road for Antonio and Patricia.

:15:01. > :15:11.Well if the Beatles are the most famous old boys, its most famous old

:15:12. > :15:14.girl is Cilla Black, and the video a new statue of Howard said the club

:15:15. > :15:15.as part of the celebrations and we will have more details on that later

:15:16. > :15:16.than the programme. England's new star opening batsman -

:15:17. > :15:36.opens up to us about his And we are alive and Liverpool to

:15:37. > :15:42.commemorate 60 years and two celebrate its most famous cloakroom

:15:43. > :15:43.girl. Can't have too much of him on this programme!

:15:44. > :15:53.Special guest tonight and looking back on that big weekend of

:15:54. > :15:58.football, Manchester against Merseyside with Everton the big

:15:59. > :16:03.winners. Former Manchester United player Danny Webber is here with us.

:16:04. > :16:08.Manchester United drew 1-1, but let's focus on Everton first, when

:16:09. > :16:14.the second goal went in from Kevin Mirallas, there was only one winner.

:16:15. > :16:21.Everton played extremely well, so well in the second half that Koeman

:16:22. > :16:26.said he was spot-on. The second half was perfect in every aspect of

:16:27. > :16:31.football. Was the dream topping the two goals from teenagers. That makes

:16:32. > :16:37.the final result and how we played as a team perfect. He thought it was

:16:38. > :16:44.perfect than just picking up on that point about the young players, Tom

:16:45. > :16:49.Davies, 18, local boy. He scored the third goal and we will see it now,

:16:50. > :16:54.and Adam on his debut, a veteran at 19. Tom Davies, first and foremost,

:16:55. > :17:03.the fact he is home-grown you can see it in the way preferred -- the

:17:04. > :17:09.way he performed. I am actually glad that Romelu Lukaku never got a

:17:10. > :17:14.touch. That would have been cruel. What about Manchester City? Problems

:17:15. > :17:20.to solve. Do you see it as a problem in terms of the tactics of Pep

:17:21. > :17:23.Guardiola? It is a bit of both. You have to look at when a manager comes

:17:24. > :17:27.in and implements what he wants to happen it is difficult for the

:17:28. > :17:32.players to take it fully on board and especially at the top of the

:17:33. > :17:35.Premier League to implement it. City were probably spoiled that the

:17:36. > :17:39.beginning because they got off to a flying start but it is very

:17:40. > :17:45.difficult to maintain that. What about United against Liverpool?

:17:46. > :17:48.Liverpool lead for the bulk of the match until James Milner's penalty.

:17:49. > :17:56.Do you think he ever said the weaknesses of both sides as much as

:17:57. > :17:59.the strengths? You are always looking for something special and

:18:00. > :18:02.there wasn't much of that in the way of individual greatness yesterday,

:18:03. > :18:09.so the teams cancelled each other out. Liverpool came and sat back in

:18:10. > :18:17.the way United dead at Anfield and 1-1 was a fair result. We will see

:18:18. > :18:19.how they go. I think Liverpool and Manchester United a few back. Thank

:18:20. > :18:22.you. We can't move on from the Premier

:18:23. > :18:25.League without mentioning yet The Clarets are tenth in the top

:18:26. > :18:29.flight after their eighth League win at Turf Moor so far this season,

:18:30. > :18:32.Joey Barton's free kick the only goal of the game

:18:33. > :18:34.against Southampton. In the Championship,

:18:35. > :18:36.Wigan Athletic had a new boy to thank for a vital win

:18:37. > :18:39.at relegation rivals Burton Albion. 19-year-old Callum Connolly

:18:40. > :18:40.only arrived on loan from Everton before the game,

:18:41. > :18:43.but scored both goals And Preston moved up to ninth

:18:44. > :18:46.after a 2-0 success over Callum Robinson scored

:18:47. > :18:49.the second as North End handed Brighton their first

:18:50. > :18:55.defeat since September. In League One, John Sheridan's third

:18:56. > :19:07.stint in charge of Oldham ended It's thirteen unbeaten now

:19:08. > :19:10.for play-off chasing Fleetwood And here's something I haven't been

:19:11. > :19:14.able to say since September. James Vaughan scored four

:19:15. > :19:17.as The Shakers hammered Peterborough 5-1 to end their record winless run

:19:18. > :19:23.of 20 games. Onto the trophy winners now,

:19:24. > :19:25.starting with ladies 'The Lancashire Rose' won her third

:19:26. > :19:29.BDO World Championship thanks to a comprehensive 3-0 victory over

:19:30. > :19:31.Australia's Corrine Hammond. Lisa, who's from Bolton,

:19:32. > :19:33.won the trophy and a And it's congratulations

:19:34. > :19:41.to Manchester Mystics who won the inaugural Womens'

:19:42. > :19:43.British Basketball League Cup. They were comfortable 71-60 winners

:19:44. > :19:45.over Nottingham Wildcats Of all the fantastic north west

:19:46. > :20:09.sporting stories of 2016, the achievements of Haseeb Hameed

:20:10. > :20:12.were up there with the very best. The 19-year-old from Bolton

:20:13. > :20:14.had a record breaking, run laden season with Lancashire

:20:15. > :20:16.followed by a call up Tonight he's overseeing

:20:17. > :20:19.an indoor cricket session for young people in Salford,

:20:20. > :20:30.from where Ian Haslam welcome to the world of chance to

:20:31. > :20:36.shine cricket, played indoors with a tennis ball. Here's the top young

:20:37. > :20:39.Lancashire and England batsmen Haseeb Hameed. You were brought up

:20:40. > :20:44.playing indoor cricket, in the living room with your bad! I was and

:20:45. > :20:49.that is where the passion for the game started with me. It has been a

:20:50. > :20:54.phenomenal few months for you, please sum it up. It has been

:20:55. > :20:57.surreal in terms of how quickly things have happened but I can on

:20:58. > :21:05.say I have loved every minute of it and I am hungry for more. You made a

:21:06. > :21:10.stunning start to your international career, averaging four for four.

:21:11. > :21:20.Hell is that no? It is OK, getting there. I can start fitting cricket

:21:21. > :21:27.balls now. It is good news. What does 2017 mean for you for England?

:21:28. > :21:30.We go to Sri Lanka next month with the Lions and hopefully in terms of

:21:31. > :21:36.England's lead as a Test series against South Africa and then there

:21:37. > :21:43.is the Ashes in the winter but I am trying not to look too far ahead and

:21:44. > :21:48.it is important from me to head out and hopefully perform well and that

:21:49. > :21:51.should bring a further honours. You mentioned Lancaster, Ashley Giles is

:21:52. > :21:58.gone and now it is Glen Chapple. You must be excited about working with

:21:59. > :22:02.him? Absolutely. We have got a really exciting squad to have him

:22:03. > :22:05.guiding is all the way be exciting. It is something I am looking forward

:22:06. > :22:09.to and I am sure the rest of the lads as well. And the little birdie

:22:10. > :22:18.told me it is your birthday tomorrow, well, Wikipedia! No longer

:22:19. > :22:23.a teenager? I guess I am a big boy as of tomorrow so no sympathy for

:22:24. > :22:31.the kids. Except that as a gift from you, thank you very much!

:22:32. > :22:33.So generous! Finally from me, the retirement of one of the Legion's

:22:34. > :22:36.best nonswimmers. Three-time Olympian Fran Halsall

:22:37. > :22:39.says it's time to move on to the next chapter in her life

:22:40. > :22:41.after eleven years The 26-year-old won 30

:22:42. > :22:44.medals at World, European and Commonwealth Games and narrowly

:22:45. > :22:47.missed out on an Olympic After 11 years you can understand

:22:48. > :22:50.that! Now earlier we were at Liverpool's

:22:51. > :22:53.famous Cavern Club which is Think Cavern and you think

:22:54. > :22:56.Beatles, of course. But it's also where Cilla Black

:22:57. > :23:02.started her career. Cilla died two years ago,

:23:03. > :23:04.but today a new statue of her was unveiled right

:23:05. > :23:06.outside the Cavern. Our Merseyside Reporter,

:23:07. > :23:18.Andy Gill, was there. Cilla Black's family

:23:19. > :23:20.were in Liverpool for the unveiling. They commissioned the statue partly
