:00:00. > :00:00.Welcome to North West Tonight with Roger Johnson -

:00:00. > :00:08.A man and woman die in a Manchester house fire.

:00:09. > :00:16.Four children survived by jumping to safety from a bedroom window.

:00:17. > :00:22.The flames were coming out of the window. They were coming out of the

:00:23. > :00:25.front door as well, a really big fire.

:00:26. > :00:27.Police say they can't rule out

:00:28. > :00:31.The maths graduate from Lancashire - now the first British woman

:00:32. > :00:37.fighting on the front line against Islamic State.

:00:38. > :00:48.A new documentary marks sixty years of Liverpool's iconic Cavern Club.

:00:49. > :01:02.In sport, the Vikings embark on a new season in super league.

:01:03. > :01:05.An investigation is under way tonight after two adults died

:01:06. > :01:11.Five other people - including four children - were injured.

:01:12. > :01:13.They jumped to safety from a bedroom window.

:01:14. > :01:16.It's not yet know how the fire started but police say

:01:17. > :01:22.Our Chief Reporter Dave Guest is at the scene in Withington.

:01:23. > :01:32.Do we know if the adults who died were the children's parents?

:01:33. > :01:40.Basically we do not. The police have not had formal identification of the

:01:41. > :01:43.two people who died. We do not know who they were and what the

:01:44. > :01:49.relationships were between the people in the house. What we do know

:01:50. > :01:54.is it was this morning when the fire service arrived to this detached

:01:55. > :01:59.house to find it well ablaze. Four young people, three girls and a boy

:02:00. > :02:03.lapped for their lives from an upstairs window and another adult

:02:04. > :02:08.male was revived after being found unconscious. The incident has left

:02:09. > :02:12.the community in a state of bewilderment.

:02:13. > :02:21.The charred remains of a home their testament to the ferocity of the

:02:22. > :02:28.fire. I heard a woman screaming and a popping sound. I had a house fire

:02:29. > :02:32.before and it is the windows expanding. The flames were coming

:02:33. > :02:39.out of the window. They were coming from the front door as well, every

:02:40. > :02:44.big fire. One neighbour told me he and others in the area had done

:02:45. > :02:48.their best to help. He described seeing the children jumping one by

:02:49. > :02:52.one from the upstairs window. Firefighters rescued a man found

:02:53. > :02:57.unconscious on the stairs and they revived him before he went to

:02:58. > :03:02.hospital. Sadly, two others, a man and a woman were beyond saving. The

:03:03. > :03:09.fire started on the ground floor rear room, we do not know exactly

:03:10. > :03:14.where. What caused it? No information at this stage. The scene

:03:15. > :03:18.is under investigation and investigators are working alongside

:03:19. > :03:23.police. Throughout the day, forensic teams have been in and out searching

:03:24. > :03:28.for clues to what caused this tragedy. Are you treating this as a

:03:29. > :03:33.crime scene or the scene of a tragic accident? We are keeping an open

:03:34. > :03:38.mind, we have to explore all avenues. We will not be saying it is

:03:39. > :03:44.not a crime scene at this stage. How are the children doing? They have

:03:45. > :03:47.gone through an absolutely terrible tragic ordeal. They are receiving

:03:48. > :03:52.support from specially trained officers. It seems the neighbours

:03:53. > :04:00.pulled together to do their best to help. Absolutely. I would pay

:04:01. > :04:04.specific tribute to the help they have given, without back, the people

:04:05. > :04:04.receiving treatment in hospital would have received more serious

:04:05. > :04:13.injuries. Tonight the police are asking for

:04:14. > :04:17.further help from the community, asking for anyone who might have

:04:18. > :04:20.been in the area in the moments leading up to the fire to come

:04:21. > :04:27.forward to help them piece together exactly what caused the fire which

:04:28. > :04:28.led to such tragedy. Two people dead, five people, including four

:04:29. > :04:30.children in hospital. A woman from Lancashire is believed

:04:31. > :04:33.to be the first British woman to travel to Syria to fight

:04:34. > :04:36.the so-called Islamic State. Kimberley Taylor -

:04:37. > :04:39.who grew up in Darwen - says she's ready to die

:04:40. > :04:50.for the cause. She has joined an all-female Kurdish

:04:51. > :04:54.unit and has moved to fight on the front line near Raqqa.

:04:55. > :04:56.Her parents, who now live in Merseyside, say

:04:57. > :05:01.This is Kimberley Taylor, speaking in Kurdish in a public

:05:02. > :05:09.Kimmie, as she's known, joined the all-female

:05:10. > :05:14.Only this morning, according to a Facebook entry,

:05:15. > :05:20.Wake up call this morning at 4am, she says, when Isis

:05:21. > :05:24.We put up an incredible fight for three hours.

:05:25. > :05:35.I won't go into details about the attack because it's super gory.

:05:36. > :05:42.She spoke to a BBC reporter. I have travelled around the world before

:05:43. > :05:50.and seen the conditions of people in Africa and the women in Africa that

:05:51. > :05:54.have suffered because of the war. And it seems to be connected. I know

:05:55. > :05:59.it is. It is all connected and I promised myself after I went to

:06:00. > :06:01.Kurdistan I would find an answer. Kimmie Taylor, a maths graduate,

:06:02. > :06:15.is believed to be the first British We have seen UK citizens, men, go

:06:16. > :06:20.there before and a couple have died. The bodies have been brought back so

:06:21. > :06:22.it is not unusual for UK citizens to go but the first report of a female

:06:23. > :06:29.citizen. When she joined the fighting force,

:06:30. > :06:33.she told family and friends... Kimmie Taylor's parents,

:06:34. > :06:36.who live in Merseyside, wouldn't speak on camera today,

:06:37. > :06:38.but told us they're She says she's willing

:06:39. > :06:43.to give her life in the fight A section of the M53

:06:44. > :06:53.in Wirral has reopened after being closed for almost 24

:06:54. > :06:55.hours following the discovery of a body on the central reservation

:06:56. > :07:03.between junctions two and three. Detectives say they believe there'd

:07:04. > :07:06.been a road accident in the area An 87-year-old man has died

:07:07. > :07:14.after the lift he was using collapsed at a care home in Greater

:07:15. > :07:18.Manchester. It happened last Monday at the

:07:19. > :07:23.Serendipity Care Home in Urmston. The Police and Health

:07:24. > :07:25.and Safety Executive A man's been jailed for sending

:07:26. > :07:31.anti-Semetic messages to the Liverpool Wavertree MP

:07:32. > :07:36.Luciana Berger, including the threat 28-year-old John Nimmo, from

:07:37. > :07:41.South Shields in the North East, He also made threats

:07:42. > :07:47.to an anti-hate crime organisation. A quick mention of something

:07:48. > :07:50.happening after North West Tonight The BBC newsreader Rachael Bland -

:07:51. > :07:53.who's presented this programme a few times -

:07:54. > :07:55.will be talking about her battle Rachael was diagnosed last

:07:56. > :07:59.year and is part way She'd love you to join

:08:00. > :08:15.in and share your stories with her. You may have heard Rachel on the

:08:16. > :08:26.radio. Or seen her on the TV. Today, she will start a new series of

:08:27. > :08:31.broadcasts on social media. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and

:08:32. > :08:35.world live stream her journey. I hope you could help me and others by

:08:36. > :08:37.sharing your stories. I hope to see you.

:08:38. > :08:41.If you'd like to follow Rachael's story -

:08:42. > :08:43.or share your's with her - head to BBC North West

:08:44. > :08:45.Tonight's Facebook page - where she'll be chatting

:08:46. > :08:52.Liverpool Football Club is to ban journalists from The Sun

:08:53. > :08:55.newspaper from Anfield - 28 years after the Hillsborough

:08:56. > :09:03.disaster and the paper's now infamous headlines.

:09:04. > :09:06.It's understood the latest move follows a meeting between the club

:09:07. > :09:11.Lets join our Merseyside reporter Andy Gill.

:09:12. > :09:15.Some people might wonder why it has taken the club 28 years to do this

:09:16. > :09:18.what they said? Officially Liverpool are saying

:09:19. > :09:20.nothing, apart from no comment. But we do know that they have

:09:21. > :09:23.withdrawn accreditation from The sun newspaper for covering matches

:09:24. > :09:26.at Anfield and for access to other premises like the Melwood training

:09:27. > :09:29.ground, which is where the club has The Sun of course published its

:09:30. > :09:34.notorious story about Hillsborough, headlined The Truth,

:09:35. > :09:36.four days after 96 people It falsely accused survivors

:09:37. > :09:41.of despicable behaviour towards the victims and for many

:09:42. > :09:44.people connected with Hillsborough The Sun has been

:09:45. > :09:49.a pariah publication since then. There are campaigns to get it

:09:50. > :09:51.removed from newsagents Those campaigns had fresh impetus

:09:52. > :09:56.after an inquest jury last year decided the 96

:09:57. > :10:11.were unlawfully killed. Now, Liverpool football club itself

:10:12. > :10:13.has banned The Sun newspaper. Has The Sun newspaper said anything?

:10:14. > :10:18.In a statement it said "Banning journalists from a club is bad

:10:19. > :10:22."The Sun deeply regrets its reporting of the tragic

:10:23. > :10:25."and understands the damage caused by those reports is still felt

:10:26. > :10:49.One Hillsborough mother says she is pleased with the band. Thank you,

:10:50. > :10:50.Andy. Rural communities here

:10:51. > :10:53.in the North West say their way of life is at risk from changes

:10:54. > :10:56.to business rates. The amount of local tax paid

:10:57. > :10:59.by companies is being recalculated in April for the first time

:11:00. > :11:01.in seven years. And critics say towns

:11:02. > :11:03.and cities could benefit at the cost of the countryside,

:11:04. > :11:06.as Mark Edwardson reports from a riding school

:11:07. > :11:13.in Cumbria facing a 60% hike. Ella Wadsworth is a 19-year-old

:11:14. > :11:19.student who is visually impaired. I can't drive legally,

:11:20. > :11:22.so coming here, I can get on a horse She rides 17-year-old cob,

:11:23. > :11:29.Jack, three times a week It is one of many rural

:11:30. > :11:47.enterprises facing business Business rates at the commercial

:11:48. > :11:51.version of council tax. Rural businesses which occupy more space

:11:52. > :11:54.are put at an unfair disadvantage by a bricks and mortar attacks based on

:11:55. > :11:59.premises not profitability. The rise is from ?183

:12:00. > :12:02.per stable to ?375. Riding schools will be joined

:12:03. > :12:19.by livestock markets and kennels and catteries as businesses facing

:12:20. > :12:21.the biggest increases Oil refineries, cement works,

:12:22. > :12:26.bingo halls and even photo booth is significant reductions

:12:27. > :12:40.in their business rates. You can look at the size of the

:12:41. > :12:44.business in terms of geographical size and compare that to turnover

:12:45. > :12:51.and make sure you reduce business rates accordingly, it would not be

:12:52. > :12:57.hard but more Sellotape on an order ready broken system. The industry is

:12:58. > :12:58.not taking it lying down. It is not appropriate for this level of

:12:59. > :13:00.increase to have occurred right now. The school has two months

:13:01. > :13:26.before it is saddled I will have more on that story on

:13:27. > :13:31.the Sunday Politics on Sunday! The clue is in the title. And rumours

:13:32. > :13:33.about the north-west Labour MP taking over the party. Labour

:13:34. > :13:35.leadership again! Now sport and Super League has taken

:13:36. > :13:50.top billing this week. We will see how the Vikings get on

:13:51. > :13:55.tonight. I chatted to fans and they are nervous, they lost key players

:13:56. > :14:02.but let's find out from the horses mouth, I'm joined by the assistant

:14:03. > :14:09.coach. What shape of Aladdin? Good shape, good preseason, I work hard.

:14:10. > :14:15.-- what shape are the lads in? Kevin Brown, key player for a few seasons,

:14:16. > :14:20.how confident are you you can fill the gap? Very competent, Tom Gilmore

:14:21. > :14:28.on the cusp and he has an opportunity. It is an opportunity

:14:29. > :14:34.for him to show us what he can do and the fans. You finished in the

:14:35. > :14:39.top eight last season, a good season, are you confident you can go

:14:40. > :14:43.better this time? Not looking at top eight, we look at each individual

:14:44. > :14:50.week and it starts tonight. If you look too far in advance you get --

:14:51. > :14:56.lose track. It is a tough, -- match tonight but hopefully if we stick to

:14:57. > :15:02.what we know we will do the job. Absolutely. Do you sense and

:15:03. > :15:07.excitement? Yeah, always exciting, first games do not dictate the year

:15:08. > :15:09.but it is good to get out and get out there and show what you can do.

:15:10. > :15:12.Thank you very much indeed. Well, last night as we mentioned

:15:13. > :15:15.St Helens earned a narrow win in a low-scoring but enthralling

:15:16. > :15:17.Super League season opener The Rhinos went ahead before

:15:18. > :15:21.the break as Joel Moon scored But early in the second half

:15:22. > :15:29.Theo Fages crashed over the line and Mark Percival's convertion gave

:15:30. > :15:34.Saints a 6-4 win. It's a big night for newly

:15:35. > :15:37.promoted Leigh Centurions. Their first match back

:15:38. > :15:42.in Super League for over a decade. The Centurions take

:15:43. > :15:43.on Castleford Tigers The Centurions finished top

:15:44. > :15:51.of the Championship and won promotion to the top flight

:15:52. > :15:53.after coming through So what are the players

:15:54. > :15:59.hoping for this season? Winning everything would be

:16:00. > :16:08.brilliant but our aim is survival. We don't want to be winning

:16:09. > :16:10.the million pound game but if we have to do,

:16:11. > :16:13.we will do it but the top In tomorrow's Premier League -

:16:14. > :16:27.Liverpool will be hoping to stop the rot when they face

:16:28. > :16:31.Spurs at Anfield. The steadying influence

:16:32. > :16:50.in Ronald Koeman's emerging side. This week he out in the community -

:16:51. > :16:52.presenting an award to Everton's Premier League Kicks

:16:53. > :16:55.hero and mixing it with As have Everton in recent weeks -

:16:56. > :17:09.the Champions places aren't I think the squad we build

:17:10. > :17:17.and the managers come on the way they want to progress,

:17:18. > :17:19.that is their target. Whether we are strong enough

:17:20. > :17:22.at the moment, I am not sure. Exciting times certainly -

:17:23. > :17:26.as proved with last week's six-three Since then Lukaku's agent

:17:27. > :17:29.say's he's finally close You get so excited about scoring

:17:30. > :17:36.goals, hungry to score goals, whether in training or on the pitch,

:17:37. > :17:41.that is what he lives for. He is going to be

:17:42. > :17:43.massive for Everton. Also making headlines -

:17:44. > :17:45.Ross Barkley and his He got carried away in the heat

:17:46. > :17:50.of the moment, showing The kids were happy

:17:51. > :17:53.with it, I ask them. But what do the kids

:17:54. > :17:58.think about Everton... They started off bad

:17:59. > :18:00.but are getting better again. Doing really good, I'm happy

:18:01. > :18:06.Liverpool are losing every game! Do you support Liverpool,

:18:07. > :18:08.what was it like meeting Well, it was all right

:18:09. > :18:11.considering he is the future I am really excited to be

:18:12. > :18:20.here at the moment. The players we have got here,

:18:21. > :18:22.working with the manager. We will go from there,

:18:23. > :18:25.a game at a time, the old cliches! Lancashire's Laura Massaro says

:18:26. > :18:39.she's in good shape to win another Laura who's been in action today

:18:40. > :18:43.in the championships in Manchester, has previously been the world number

:18:44. > :18:45.one and has has her sights set on getting back

:18:46. > :18:49.to the top of the rankings. Manchester hosts the world

:18:50. > :18:51.championships later in the year, but for now the focus is very much

:18:52. > :18:53.on domestic competiton. And as I found out, it's certainly

:18:54. > :18:56.capturing the imagination And in the women's draw,

:18:57. > :19:04.the big-name is Laura Massaro. Laura is the defending champion

:19:05. > :19:07.and favourite to win again. She won in double quick time today,

:19:08. > :19:14.as she did yesterday. Looking in your eyes,

:19:15. > :19:17.I think the fire is burning Yeah, I mean I think when I'm

:19:18. > :19:24.training and on an improvement role as I am and been through a few

:19:25. > :19:28.new things with my coach and I come away from them feeling

:19:29. > :19:30.like I want to punch them in the face and then cry the whole

:19:31. > :19:34.way home then give me a day or two Wow, if I can really do this

:19:35. > :19:42.and buy in and do this, The championships moved

:19:43. > :19:47.to the national Squash Centre almost a decade and a half ago

:19:48. > :19:52.and with 7000 schoolchildren on the Manchester programme alone,

:19:53. > :19:55.interest is growing among the next Really good because I can

:19:56. > :20:01.meet people and might Music to the years of the man

:20:02. > :20:08.in charge of coaching. This event really does get well

:20:09. > :20:11.supported throughout the North. You can see to the Masters event

:20:12. > :20:16.all the players coming to complete. Do you think you have another

:20:17. > :20:28.world title left in you? I would like to think

:20:29. > :20:32.so so, yeah, definitely. First things first, Laura

:20:33. > :20:35.has her sights set on a fourth national title and in front

:20:36. > :20:46.of the home crowd, she will -- not be short of support. Great to

:20:47. > :20:51.catch up with her again. The local youngsters taking part at the

:20:52. > :20:53.moment. The big boys are on at eight o'clock. The coverage is on rugby

:20:54. > :20:56.league on the local rugby station. Thanks Richard...back in 1957

:20:57. > :21:00.a small basement club opened up in the backstreets of Liverpool -

:21:01. > :21:02.the owners hoping to cash We're talking about the Cavern Club

:21:03. > :21:16.of course, and tonight there's a special BBC programme

:21:17. > :21:31.celebrating its 60th anniversary Welcome to the cavern club! Alleging

:21:32. > :21:37.Derry venue. The cavern will always be here while music is being played.

:21:38. > :21:41.We would queue up in Matthew street waiting to go in and you could hear

:21:42. > :21:49.the throb throb throb of the beads inside. The minute I saw the

:21:50. > :21:55.Beatles, that is what I wanted to be, professional musician. Popular

:21:56. > :22:06.music would not have been the same without the Beatles or the cavern

:22:07. > :22:11.club. Even now it still grabs you as you walk in, you cannot go into the

:22:12. > :22:28.cavern without tapping your foot or fingers. You are in the moment.

:22:29. > :22:32.Gorgeous, gorgeous. Fantastic. It is virtually impossible to separate the

:22:33. > :22:38.cavern from the Beatles. It was more than that. And it is. The whole

:22:39. > :22:42.point about the film is it was strange because it is 60 years of

:22:43. > :22:45.the cavern club and you would not be doing it if it wasn't for the

:22:46. > :22:49.Beatles but they were only there for two years and there were people

:22:50. > :22:57.there before that and now. That tiny cellar in the back row of Matthew

:22:58. > :23:01.street which we knew as students and it became different clubs and

:23:02. > :23:08.changed but back club echoed all around the world, people from

:23:09. > :23:14.Brazil, Japan still coming and it is amazing. It changed locations in the

:23:15. > :23:20.1970s. People demonstrated because people were upset. They were and if

:23:21. > :23:28.you watch the film at 7:30pm, Billy Butler explained he was the DJ at

:23:29. > :23:33.the time and T and others talk about barricading themselves up because

:23:34. > :23:39.the bailiffs came to shut it up. It has been reincarnated but it is back

:23:40. > :23:43.on the original site with the original bricks, it moved over the

:23:44. > :23:47.road and then it moved back again. It is still the cavern club in the

:23:48. > :23:53.same place with the original bricks and feeling. I had not realised it

:23:54. > :23:58.moved back. Yeah, it is kind of confusing. It is still on the

:23:59. > :24:06.original site with the same arches and bricks. Interestingly Tony

:24:07. > :24:13.Booth, the artist did that poster and the famous Beatles posters as

:24:14. > :24:18.well. That was his last ever job for your documentary. Yes, it was moving
