:02:04. > :02:07.been involved in that operation. We heard from a 32-year-old woman who

:02:08. > :02:15.had also been arrested. Quite a day of events in this enquiry.

:02:16. > :02:17.In the aftermath of the outrage, the place very quickly identified the

:02:18. > :02:23.attacker. Now they must identify whether Khalid Masood acted alone or

:02:24. > :02:26.in collision with others. The investigation by the Metropolitan

:02:27. > :02:28.Police has led to a number of arrests in different parts of the

:02:29. > :02:34.country. Yesterday, the concentrated on Birmingham. Today came news that

:02:35. > :02:39.had been arrests close to home, so far as this region is concerned.

:02:40. > :02:43.We have made two significant arrests overnight. One in the West Midlands,

:02:44. > :02:49.one in the North West. We have five addresses that the search is

:02:50. > :02:52.continuing, and six search is concluded.

:02:53. > :02:57.The scene of one of those searchers, this gated housing development in

:02:58. > :02:59.west Manchester. A man of 35 was arrested here in the early hours of

:03:00. > :03:03.the morning. At had no idea what was going on, I

:03:04. > :03:07.didn't see anything and I wasn't told anything either.

:03:08. > :03:13.Would you think of something like this happening around here?

:03:14. > :03:21.Very, very scary. This man was informed by the police.

:03:22. > :03:24.The police have kept us informed as usual.

:03:25. > :03:29.What is your message to the people in the constituency?

:03:30. > :03:34.There is no need for alarm, there is no threat to the local community.

:03:35. > :03:39.During the afternoon, a grey car was taken away.

:03:40. > :03:43.The police maintained a presence here throughout the day, as have the

:03:44. > :03:47.media. In addition to the 35 man arrested here early this morning,

:03:48. > :03:50.the Metropolitan Police now tell us a 32-year-old woman has also been

:03:51. > :03:58.arrested as part of their operation in Manchester today. Meanwhile, in

:03:59. > :04:03.London, a Edge Hill university students who find themselves at the

:04:09. > :04:11.today in the shape of the Prince of Wales.

:04:12. > :04:14.The students have dealt with this very maturely, supporting each

:04:15. > :04:17.other. I don't think I was be like that at their age, I'm so proud of

:04:18. > :04:20.them. Meanwhile, the investigation into

:04:21. > :04:25.this man, when he did it and if anyone help Tim continues.

:04:26. > :04:32.And greater match the police stressing tonight there is no direct

:04:33. > :04:36.evidence are intelligence to suggest any raised alert level for terrorism

:04:37. > :04:39.here in greater match. They have been assisting the Metropolitan

:04:40. > :04:44.Police in this particular investigation. This is a complex

:04:45. > :04:48.investigation which will go on for some time. People will be arrested

:04:49. > :04:51.and then released without charge, we don't know what the outcome will be

:04:52. > :04:52.or what the placement today when they talked of a significant

:04:53. > :04:58.arrests. George Osborne will tonight face

:04:59. > :05:01.a grilling from his local Conservative Party over his decision

:05:02. > :05:04.to take up a role as editor The former Chancellor last week

:05:05. > :05:07.announced he would work for the Evening Standard

:05:08. > :05:11.alongside his role as Tatton MP. He also has lucrative contracts

:05:12. > :05:14.at an investment company Our political editor

:05:15. > :05:37.Nina Warhurst is outside It's been a week now since that

:05:38. > :05:41.shock announcement. Since then, George Osborne's face questions from

:05:42. > :05:46.Parliament and journalists, but not yet has he had to face the party

:05:47. > :05:50.faithful. The AGM is taking place around a quarter of a mile away from

:05:51. > :05:55.here. You are told not only way we not allowed in, we removed on by

:05:56. > :05:59.police. But he will have to face up to that question tonight, that

:06:00. > :06:05.?75,000 question test out his salary as an MP -

:06:06. > :06:06.how can you possibly edit a London newspaper, server us is a member of

:06:07. > :06:10.Parliament, and serve us well. After flabbergasting Fleet Street

:06:11. > :06:12.and rocking Westminster, Back in the North, all

:06:13. > :06:15.hard hats and hi-vis. Yeah, building the

:06:16. > :06:18.Northern Powerhouse! ..George Osborne said there's no

:06:19. > :06:22.hole to dig himself out of. Whether it's as a constituency

:06:23. > :06:25.MP or in parliament, fighting for the things I care

:06:26. > :06:27.about, or editing the Evening Standard, I'm going to go

:06:28. > :06:32.on fighting for a prosperous A successful Northern Powerhouse,

:06:33. > :06:35.a successful London, He's sure he can do it all,

:06:36. > :06:43.but not everyone's convinced. It might not have the same

:06:44. > :06:45.status as the Standard, but the Wilmslow Guardian reflects

:06:46. > :06:48.the opinion of "It's time to vote

:06:49. > :06:55.Labour," shouts Charlotte. "He's not fit to represent

:06:56. > :06:57.me," says Christine. And Alan asks, "Does anyone have

:06:58. > :06:59.Martin Bell's phone number?" Tonight, local Tories like Tony

:07:00. > :07:02.will get to ask more questions, Is he going to continue doing his

:07:03. > :07:08.speeches and America, for instance? And all those questions will be

:07:09. > :07:15.asked, without a doubt. He was the Chancellor

:07:16. > :07:23.of the Exchequer, we're proud to have had him,

:07:24. > :07:26.and I think he's done We just want to make sure he's

:07:27. > :07:30.going to be able to keep It would take a lot

:07:31. > :07:34.for Tatton Tories to fully But when patience is tested,

:07:35. > :07:47.even the most loyal That's interesting, Tony there was

:07:48. > :07:52.very supportive of George Osborne, thinks he can do it. What are the

:07:53. > :07:58.possible outcomes here? Did they, if they think it's untenable, could

:07:59. > :08:02.they get rid of him? As I understand it, what they could

:08:03. > :08:06.do tonight is raise a motion that would begin the process of

:08:07. > :08:11.deselection, ahead of the next election. But that could be academic

:08:12. > :08:16.anyway, because Tatton as a constituency could disappear under

:08:17. > :08:19.boundary changes. On a separate note, we found that the Committee on

:08:20. > :08:26.Standards in Public Life is to launch a separate investigation into

:08:27. > :08:31.MP's second jobs. Taking 23 the number of Government bodies that

:08:32. > :08:36.will scrutinising George or Warren and his jobs. -- taking in pic-mac

:08:37. > :08:37.three the number of Government bodies that will be scrutinising

:08:38. > :08:42.George Osborne and his jobs. Police are investigating the death

:08:43. > :08:44.of a 19-month-old girl in Preston. She died in hospital,

:08:45. > :08:46.after being treated by paramedics at an address

:08:47. > :08:48.in Lostock Hall yesterday. An 18-year-old woman and two men -

:08:49. > :08:54.aged 18 and 19 - have been arrested. A former youth football scout

:08:55. > :08:56.who worked at Liverpool has been arrested by police investigating

:08:57. > :08:59.allegations of historical Harry Dunn was detained

:09:00. > :09:04.by police in Edinburgh. Police Scotland said an 84-year-old

:09:05. > :09:09.man has been charged with a number Scientists from the University

:09:10. > :09:14.of Liverpool are leading ground-breaking research

:09:15. > :09:17.at Wirral's Clatterbridge Cancer Centre to determine

:09:18. > :09:19.whether proton beam therapy - which can target tumours precisely -

:09:20. > :09:22.can be used to treat It is the first time the proton beam

:09:23. > :09:28.has been used in this type A couple from Bury who acted

:09:29. > :09:33.as foster and adoptive parents for more than 40 years before

:09:34. > :09:37.they retired a year ago have received a medal from the Pope

:09:38. > :09:42.to mark their amazing achievement. Yesterday, just before

:09:43. > :09:44.a special mass at St Hilda's in Tottington to make the awards,

:09:45. > :09:47.I went to meet John and Elanie Carroll and they told me

:09:48. > :09:53.about their extraordinary family. Recognition from the Pope for

:09:54. > :09:59.a lifetime of life-changing work. In over 40 years, John

:10:00. > :10:02.and Elaine Carroll have adopted three children and fostered

:10:03. > :10:06.another 25 more. And I would recommend anybody to do

:10:07. > :10:20.fostering if they could. I'm sorry I'm a bit emotional,

:10:21. > :10:28.but I have missed it. You know, I really,

:10:29. > :10:32.really missed it. Last night, in a private mass

:10:33. > :10:35.at St Hilda's in Tottington, the man who alerted the Vatican

:10:36. > :10:39.to the Carroll's commitment to caring for children presented

:10:40. > :10:47.them with the Benemerenti Medal It's very much an important part

:10:48. > :10:51.of Catholic life, is the family. Because of John and Elaine,

:10:52. > :10:54.over the years, children have had a great chance to start their lives

:10:55. > :10:56.and to grow and develop. There's a shortage of over

:10:57. > :11:01.1200 foster places in John and Elaine pay tribute to Child

:11:02. > :11:09.Action North West for the training We're just by standards

:11:10. > :11:14.in their lives, really. We help them, support them,

:11:15. > :11:17.that's all you can do, isn't it? You have to tell them

:11:18. > :11:19.that what happened to It's something that's been, well,

:11:20. > :11:28.forced on them, if you like. Sheena was first fostered and then

:11:29. > :11:31.adopted by John and Elaine. She was there to see them

:11:32. > :11:34.received the papal medal. I just find it completely

:11:35. > :11:37.amazing, really. And I just think they've

:11:38. > :11:41.done such a good job, I'm very happy that

:11:42. > :11:47.I've got these parents. An exceptional couple

:11:48. > :11:50.who so thoroughly deserve A really lovely family and a very

:11:51. > :12:01.well-deserved award. The wait is over -

:12:02. > :12:05.we hear from Anthony Crolla I'll go absolutely mad,

:12:06. > :12:12.I'll go mad along with that crowd. It gives me goose bumps

:12:13. > :12:15.just thinking about it. And your wonderful efforts

:12:16. > :12:17.for Comic Relief - we'll look at your fundraising,

:12:18. > :12:36.and a superstar guest presenter Younger viewers will really enjoy

:12:37. > :12:40.it. If you have young children in the house, you might want to get

:12:41. > :12:46.them round. He's good. Could be a bit scary protest action! -- scary

:12:47. > :12:47.for us! Next tonight, the story of a group

:12:48. > :12:50.of people in Cheshire who took Throughout the 1960s,

:12:51. > :12:53.many were reluctantly moved into high-rise flats

:12:54. > :12:56.as their old houses were demolished. But when residents of a street

:12:57. > :12:58.in Macclesfield were told to move into tower blocks in 1971,

:12:59. > :13:00.they simply refused. Many of the tower blocks built

:13:01. > :13:08.to replace streets of terraced Back in the 60s, the march

:13:09. > :13:17.of the so-called progress But when a group of people

:13:18. > :13:23.in Macclesfield were told to swap their back-to-backs

:13:24. > :13:26.for a high-rise in the We'd only just left one

:13:27. > :13:33.house in Bank Street. We hadn't been up here long

:13:34. > :13:36.when they came through and said The campaign to save their

:13:37. > :13:46.properties was led by Rod Hackney, a young architect who lived

:13:47. > :13:50.in the street. The greatest piece of single

:13:51. > :13:53.advice, I think, is having The biggest challenge

:13:54. > :14:00.was to persuade people to break All their life, they had been

:14:01. > :14:06.used to being looked And here they were, unfortunately,

:14:07. > :14:13.living in houses that were slums. And I was coming in and saying,

:14:14. > :14:16.we can do something about it Rod Hackney showed the houses

:14:17. > :14:21.could be renovated at a third The council wouldn't go for it,

:14:22. > :14:33.so the residents did it themselves. It was all new, and we were

:14:34. > :14:37.young, fit, so we just It took five years, but the houses

:14:38. > :14:46.are still there today. And so are some of those who took

:14:47. > :14:49.on the powers that be. Their success inspired similar

:14:50. > :14:54.schemes around the world. I've come down in the morning,

:14:55. > :14:57.opened the blinds, and there would be people from halfway

:14:58. > :15:00.round the world, looking out Prince Charles praised it

:15:01. > :15:06.as an example of good Rod Hackney went on to become

:15:07. > :15:10.president of And the authorities were made

:15:11. > :15:16.to think again about the rush Sport now with Richard,

:15:17. > :15:30.and one of our best-known boxers has his sights set on winning

:15:31. > :15:32.back his world title. Yes, Manchester's Anthony Crolla

:15:33. > :15:37.goes into the ring tomorrow night against the man

:15:38. > :15:40.who took his lightweight title Anthony, known as "million Dollar",

:15:41. > :15:45.lost his WBA lightweight crown And if he wins this one,

:15:46. > :15:50.it really will open the doors The pair weighed in this afternoon

:15:51. > :15:54.ahead of their clash at And as I found out,

:15:55. > :15:57.Anthony is desperate For Anthony Crolla, this is a chance

:15:58. > :16:13.to get back to the very top. It's noticeable how

:16:14. > :16:15.relaxed Anthony has been As he told me in his gym,

:16:16. > :16:22.he says he's absolutely determined If I win back the title, it's among

:16:23. > :16:33.the best prices in the sport, against a future Hall of Famer,

:16:34. > :16:38.this would take some beating. For you, it would actually

:16:39. > :16:40.top winning the world Anthony, known as one

:16:41. > :16:45.of the nice guys in boxing, In the lead up to his previous

:16:46. > :16:51.fight, he was personally I've been lucky enough where two

:16:52. > :16:58.very good friends and my little I'm not worried about driving

:16:59. > :17:01.across to certain parts of Manchester, or timing

:17:02. > :17:03.it with the rush hour It was, but there's

:17:04. > :17:10.no-one else to blame. But I certainly feel

:17:11. > :17:13.the benefits of not doing that. Anthony never shirks training,

:17:14. > :17:17.but occasionally, like everyone And as a fanatical

:17:18. > :17:21.Manchester United fan, Going away with supporters up

:17:22. > :17:29.and down the country, around Europe, there's not much of a better

:17:30. > :17:33.buzz than that. And you'll be a celebrity

:17:34. > :17:35.fan, of course. Emotionally, how would you feel

:17:36. > :17:41.if you do win the title back? I'll go absolutely mad,

:17:42. > :17:47.I'll go mad along with that crowd. It does give me goose bumps

:17:48. > :17:59.just thinking about it. Manchester City have been

:18:00. > :18:03.fined ?15,000 by Uefa for a pitch invasion,

:18:04. > :18:05.objects being thrown and a late kick-off in the home leg

:18:06. > :18:08.of their Champions League And they've accepted an FA

:18:09. > :18:12.charge of - and I quote - "Failing to ensure their players

:18:13. > :18:14.conducted themselves in an orderly fashion" after Liverpool

:18:15. > :18:17.were awarded a penalty in last The case will be heard by an

:18:18. > :18:22.independent regulatory commission. On the pitch, City's women have

:18:23. > :18:26.on foot in the last four of the Champions League

:18:27. > :18:29.after Carli Lloyd's goal gave them a 1-0 win away to Fortuna Hyorring

:18:30. > :18:33.in the first leg of their quarter Leigh Centurions are still looking

:18:34. > :18:38.for their first away win in Super League after they let a

:18:39. > :18:41.12-point half-time lead They went down by 28-24

:18:42. > :18:47.and were left to rue this Ryan Hampshire's floated pass

:18:48. > :18:52.for Matty Dawson was ruled Leigh have now lost all four

:18:53. > :18:59.of their away games this season. BBC Radios Manchester

:19:00. > :19:01.and Merseyside will bring you tonight's action,

:19:02. > :19:06.including a crucial clash between St Helens

:19:07. > :19:14.and struggling Warrington. Elsewhere, it's Widnes-Salford

:19:15. > :19:29.and Wigan-Hull. But there in the end. All the best

:19:30. > :19:35.Ansley Common he's getting married in the summer, everything's going

:19:42. > :19:43.been several well that North West Tonight is going to the dogs. It's

:19:44. > :19:46.about it, perhaps. Lots of you have been getting up

:19:47. > :19:51.to fun and games to help others, and the money raised

:19:52. > :19:52.will make the future a little brighter for some

:19:53. > :19:55.of our deprived communities. The big fund-raising show

:19:56. > :19:57.follows us here on BBC One. It's been going since 1985 and over

:19:58. > :20:00.the years, Alice and Brenda So we sent them to visit some

:20:01. > :20:04.of the people they help They went with Ben Shires

:20:05. > :20:11.from Officially Amazing on CBBC. Hello, I'm Ben Shires and I'm

:20:12. > :20:14.here for Comic Relief in the Anfield area of Liverpool to take a look

:20:15. > :20:17.at some inspiring charity work that's being helped by the two

:20:18. > :20:20.fantastic fundraising females They've been working for more

:20:21. > :20:24.than 30 years to raise money So shall we take

:20:25. > :20:27.a look around, ladies? And I'd better dress

:20:28. > :20:30.for the part, too. MUSIC: Finetime

:20:48. > :20:53.good for the kids, and that's what Comic

:20:54. > :20:55.Relief's all about. It's about making sure

:20:56. > :21:00.that the people get something As long as you promise not to

:21:01. > :21:14.soak me! What is the bus going to be

:21:15. > :21:21.used for in the area? The bus is going to

:21:22. > :21:23.be used as a youth bus that goes around and could be

:21:24. > :21:26.used by multiple charities to do We're hoping that the youth buses

:21:27. > :21:31.going to be able to be set up, done by young people,

:21:32. > :21:34.and then actually get used by young people on the streets,

:21:35. > :21:36.so they can actually engage with us without going into a building

:21:37. > :21:39.or be somewhere else Girls, are you having

:21:40. > :21:42.a good day today? What's the best thing

:21:43. > :21:46.about coming here? So there's something

:21:47. > :22:01.for everyone here, isn't there? I think it's boosted
