:00:00. > :00:21.A report by Labour's National Executive Committee has upheld

:00:22. > :00:23.complaints by the Wallasey MP, Angela Eagle, that she and her staff

:00:24. > :00:25.were subjected to homophobic abuse and intimidation

:00:26. > :00:28.The MP, who was involved in the leadership challenge

:00:29. > :00:31.to Jeremy Corbyn, said she was pleased that the NEC had

:00:32. > :00:41.It was in July that tensions began to rise in the Wallasey Labour Party

:00:42. > :00:44.after Angela Eagle criticised Jeremy Corbyn and then

:00:45. > :00:51.The Labour Party has now upheld the MP's complaints that

:00:52. > :00:53.as a result, she was subjected to homophobic abuse

:00:54. > :00:57.at a constituency meeting and that they received hundreds

:00:58. > :00:59.of abusive homophobic and frightening messages sent

:01:00. > :01:05.The report also said it was highly likely that an attack

:01:06. > :01:08.at her constituency party office when a brick was thrown

:01:09. > :01:12.through the window was linked to her leadership bid.

:01:13. > :01:16.Ultimately I think the report outlines serious wrongdoings

:01:17. > :01:21.It made it clear there was a mood that was quite unpleasant

:01:22. > :01:24.It made it clear there was intimidation.

:01:25. > :01:27.There was homophobia and there was abuse.

:01:28. > :01:30.Staff at this constituency office were said to have been left

:01:31. > :01:32.upset and intimidated by the abuse they received,

:01:33. > :01:35.but local party activists denied it happened and the chair

:01:36. > :01:40.of the local party is critical of the report's findings.

:01:41. > :01:42.Kathy Runswick says she is disappointed

:01:43. > :01:46.She says any homophobia should be rooted out,

:01:47. > :01:49.but she is critical of the fact that the party says it happened

:01:50. > :01:56.Angela Eagle declined to speak on camera but in a statement

:01:57. > :01:59.Meanwhile at Wirral magistrates' earlier today, a 45-year-old man

:02:00. > :02:02.Stephen King from Paisley in Scotland admitted making death

:02:03. > :02:19.He was given an eight week suspended prison sentence.

:02:20. > :02:21.Well, I'm now joined by professor of politics Jon Tonge

:02:22. > :02:34.A damning report as far as the local Labour Party goes. What does this

:02:35. > :02:39.mean for Labour in Wallasey now? Well, it paints a grim picture this

:02:40. > :02:42.report of Labour in Wallasey. Will those individuals alleged to have

:02:43. > :02:46.carried out the actions and there were no names mentioned in this

:02:47. > :02:50.particular report, will the disputes panel the Labour Party move to expel

:02:51. > :02:53.the perpetrators and what about the future of Wallasey Labour Party?

:02:54. > :02:56.This is one of the biggest Labour Party in the north-west with over

:02:57. > :02:59.1,000 members. What's going to happen? Angela Eagle has an

:03:00. > :03:02.uncomfortable relationship with a section of that Labour Party. Is

:03:03. > :03:08.there going to be mediation? Is the party going to be suspended

:03:09. > :03:12.indefinitely. Whether what is the future of Wallasey Labour Party

:03:13. > :03:17.because there has to be some healing process from here on in. We have had

:03:18. > :03:21.lots of wrangling in the Labour Party nationally, what does this

:03:22. > :03:28.incident and how it is being handled tell us about the Labour Party? It

:03:29. > :03:32.is another blow. There has been investigations into anti-semitism

:03:33. > :03:36.and now there are investigations into brick throwing. Just at a time

:03:37. > :03:39.when the Labour Party was beginning to unify after the Labour Party

:03:40. > :03:42.contest and after the Labour Party Conference last month. It is another

:03:43. > :03:46.setback and the idea that you've got the comrades in a local Labour Party

:03:47. > :03:51.who are at each others throats of the it is a poor image of the party.

:03:52. > :03:56.Angela Eagle is experienced, political operator. What does it

:03:57. > :03:58.mean for her relationship with the national party and Jeremy Corbyn?

:03:59. > :04:02.Jeremy Corbyn has come out and been in strong in defence of Angela

:04:03. > :04:06.Eagle. He seems to have forgiven her for being willing to take him on as

:04:07. > :04:11.Labour Party leader. So there is an element of healing. Angela Eagle has

:04:12. > :04:16.got to build bridges with a section of her party who acted against her.

:04:17. > :04:23.I'm not sure how that bridge will be built. Angela Eagle turned Wallasey

:04:24. > :04:26.into a safe Labour seat. A midwife involved in

:04:27. > :04:29.the Furness General maternity The Nursing and Midwifery Council

:04:30. > :04:34.found that Lindsey Biggs failed to provide basic care to baby

:04:35. > :04:37.Joshua Titcombe who died aged She was already suspended from duty

:04:38. > :04:42.after the death of another baby at Furness General

:04:43. > :04:44.in March of this year. The panel said she had

:04:45. > :04:47.shown little remorse. Charges against a former teacher

:04:48. > :04:51.accused of indecently assaulting boys at Knowl View School

:04:52. > :04:53.in Rochdale have been dropped. David Higgins, who is now 76, was

:04:54. > :04:57.due to go on trial later this year. He's already serving a prison

:04:58. > :04:59.sentence for a previous But now prosecutors say there's

:05:00. > :05:04.not enough evidence. Now the latest unemployment figures

:05:05. > :05:07.suggest the number of people out of work in the North West went up

:05:08. > :05:11.by 8,000 between June There are now 182,000 people

:05:12. > :05:17.unemployed in the region. That's 5.1% of the workforce just

:05:18. > :05:24.above the national average. But when you compare these

:05:25. > :05:31.figures to previous years - In 2012 there were 335,000 people

:05:32. > :05:35.unemployed in the region. That was 9.5% of the workforce,

:05:36. > :05:38.compared to 8.1% nationally. The Government says more people

:05:39. > :05:40.are in or available for work Stuart Flinders has been to find out

:05:41. > :05:45.whether those headline figures Rob Dixon certainly isn't

:05:46. > :05:54.going to complain about an annual But the trend does

:05:55. > :06:00.give him a headache. Mark has just finished a batch

:06:01. > :06:03.of replica sash windows to go He is trying to expand his business

:06:04. > :06:10.in Stockport, but he If we advertise for apprentices

:06:11. > :06:15.we might get ten applications. We offer interviews to everybody,

:06:16. > :06:18.half turn up, two we might recruit and one would leave

:06:19. > :06:24.within the first few weeks. It's hard work and for small

:06:25. > :06:26.business in particular, the kind of resources need

:06:27. > :06:29.to be put into that, The figures are, of course,

:06:30. > :06:32.welcomed at Jobcentres like this one in Didsbury,

:06:33. > :06:35.Manchester. They are part of a recent trend that

:06:36. > :06:38.suggests more and more people, Over the course of the year

:06:39. > :06:46.there is an additional 63,000 people who have gone into and found work

:06:47. > :06:48.and that's pretty consistent Marcus has been unemployed

:06:49. > :06:54.for a long time. I guess even if unemployment

:06:55. > :06:56.is coming down, if you're out of work, you're out

:06:57. > :06:58.of work and it's still It's time-consuming

:06:59. > :07:07.and what they say to people looking There are still jobs available,

:07:08. > :07:12.of course, but what kind of jobs? We have seen a shift in the labour

:07:13. > :07:15.market from full-time permanent positions to part-time,

:07:16. > :07:17.short-time and self employment positions and that's a major concern

:07:18. > :07:19.in terms of people's Employment figures maybe improving,

:07:20. > :07:25.but the unions and businessmen like Rob Dixon agree more needs

:07:26. > :07:28.to be done to improve the skills When Erin Cross needed

:07:29. > :07:40.pioneering medical treatment in the United States,

:07:41. > :07:44.her parents faced a major challenge. They had to raise ?140,000

:07:45. > :07:48.and they had to do it quickly. Amazingly, an appeal via social

:07:49. > :07:52.media brought in the money Erin flew out to the States,

:07:53. > :07:58.spent three months undergoing treatment and is now

:07:59. > :07:59.back home in Chester. Dave Guest has been

:08:00. > :08:05.to meet her and her family. To see her playing happily,

:08:06. > :08:10.you'd never guess that Erin has been though some pretty tough times

:08:11. > :08:13.in her short life. She was diagnosed with

:08:14. > :08:15.leukaemia at the age of two. Her parents were then told she'd

:08:16. > :08:18.need a bone marrow transplant, We need to get her in remission

:08:19. > :08:23.so she could have a bone marrow transplant so she can be fully

:08:24. > :08:26.cured of the leukaemia. Erin's parents heard of a pioneering

:08:27. > :08:30.cell engineering therapy being tried out in America which offered

:08:31. > :08:33.the best chance of getting Erin into remission so that she could

:08:34. > :08:37.have that bone marrow transplant. Basically, blood is taken

:08:38. > :08:45.from the patient and so-called They're then re-engineered and

:08:46. > :08:52.administered back into the patient. Now those re-engineered cells

:08:53. > :08:58.are able to attack the cancerous cells, but the therapy

:08:59. > :09:01.doesn't come cheap. The family needed to raised

:09:02. > :09:03.?140,000 and quickly. Amazingly, a social media campaign

:09:04. > :09:08.raised that cash in just 36 hours. We just want to thank everyone

:09:09. > :09:11.from the bottom of our hearts. Everyone that supported

:09:12. > :09:14.and donated and retweeted. So in July, the family arrived

:09:15. > :09:16.in the States and Erin's We've got to kind of keep her

:09:17. > :09:23.slightly isolated because her immune system is still working

:09:24. > :09:27.to get better. Yes, so now she is ready

:09:28. > :09:30.for transplants and preparations have taken place at Manchester's

:09:31. > :09:33.Children's Hospital. For now, Erin's family

:09:34. > :09:35.have their minds focused on next month when she'll have that bone

:09:36. > :09:38.marrow transplant in Manchester and hopefully be rid

:09:39. > :09:48.of leukaemia for good. In the Champions League,

:09:49. > :09:55.Manchester City had City keeper Claudio Bravo was sent

:09:56. > :10:04.off for deliberately handling That's it from me.

:10:05. > :10:14.Here's Diane with the weather. Bottom Good evening. It wasn't a bad

:10:15. > :10:22.day. Plenty of sunshine. We have got a lot of clear weather.

:10:23. > :10:26.You might be able to see the meteor shower. We have got clear skies

:10:27. > :10:28.tonight. There is a small chance. However, the clear skies with the

:10:29. > :10:35.light winds mean the temperatures are on the way down.

:10:36. > :10:43.Tomorrow looks a good day. Very much like today. Once the sun comes up

:10:44. > :10:47.close to 8am it should start to work its magic and the day will look very

:10:48. > :10:50.nice. Going into the afternoon one or two showers may develop just

:10:51. > :10:54.popping up here and there, but you will be unlucky if you catch more

:10:55. > :10:58.than one or two. It is cool. Cop temperature through the afternoon 12

:10:59. > :11:00.or 13 Celsius. I'll leave with the outlook. It continues fob fine and

:11:01. > :11:04.dry. Good night.

:11:05. > :11:11.that cool breeze to factor in. Here is Matt with the national outlook.

:11:12. > :11:14.Good evening. Just as the weather starts to quieten down across many

:11:15. > :11:18.parts of the country it notched up a gear across the east coast today.

:11:19. > :11:20.Near gale force winds whipping up rough seas for our
