:00:00. > :00:23.Good evening, as the boss of two hospitals on Merseyside -

:00:24. > :00:26.he was in charge of providing health care for more than a quarter

:00:27. > :00:29.But today Jonathan Parry was sacked as the Chief Executive

:00:30. > :00:31.of the Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust.

:00:32. > :00:34.Mr Parry had been suspended - along with other senior

:00:35. > :00:36.members of staff - more than a year ago and had

:00:37. > :00:40.But we still don't know exactly what he did wrong.

:00:41. > :00:42.Earlier, I spoke to our Social Affairs Correspondent Clare Fallon

:00:43. > :00:45.and asked her what more we know about what's happened there.

:00:46. > :00:47.Earlier, I spoke to our Social Affairs Correspondent Clare Fallon

:00:48. > :00:49.Not a lot, we simply have

:00:50. > :00:52.a statement that has been released by the trust today telling us that

:00:53. > :00:55.the chief executive Jonathan Parry has been sacked for gross misconduct

:00:56. > :01:00.I was at this hospital in August last

:01:01. > :01:04.year, on the day when four senior members

:01:05. > :01:05.of staff, including the

:01:06. > :01:11.I was told they had arrived at work is normal that morning, they had

:01:12. > :01:13.been taken into meetings and were told they

:01:14. > :01:14.were being suspended, and

:01:15. > :01:16.that was as a result of complaints made by

:01:17. > :01:19.whistle-blowers, and we can now look back at what the hospital trust

:01:20. > :01:25.I want to stress that the whistle-blowing

:01:26. > :01:28.concerns that have been raised do not concern patient safety or

:01:29. > :01:37.And I would want the message very clearly to be

:01:38. > :01:39.understood, there is no risk to patients,

:01:40. > :01:42.public should feel confident about attending at the trust.

:01:43. > :01:45.So that is what they were saying last year.

:01:46. > :01:49.No interviews are being done, no real

:01:50. > :01:51.explanation about what has gone on here.

:01:52. > :01:56.In fairness to the trust, what

:01:57. > :01:59.they have said to me is at the moment the outgoing chief executive

:02:00. > :02:02.has the right to appeal against sacking so it would be

:02:03. > :02:07.unfair to go into details at the moment.

:02:08. > :02:12.What about the other senior members of staff were suspended?

:02:13. > :02:13.It has been decided that one of those

:02:14. > :02:23.senior members of staff has now case to answer,

:02:24. > :02:27.The other two making up the four are no longer working for

:02:28. > :02:30.The chief operating boss, she has retired, and

:02:31. > :02:32.the human resources boss has resigned.

:02:33. > :02:33.I understand proceedings are still ongoing.

:02:34. > :02:35.All of this attracted criticism from some people

:02:36. > :02:40.including the local MP, who said all of this has taken too

:02:41. > :02:51.long and they say that it has cost too much,

:02:52. > :02:54.because these members of staff were still being paid while

:02:55. > :02:58.As of the summer that had added up to ?400,000.

:02:59. > :03:00.As of this evening we still do not know

:03:01. > :03:02.what has gone on here, although clearly this

:03:03. > :03:13.So serious the chief executive has now been sacked.

:03:14. > :03:15.Firefighters searching for a couple - missing

:03:16. > :03:17.after a house fire in Liverpool - have found two bodies.

:03:18. > :03:20.The blaze destroyed the house in Allerton at the weekend.

:03:21. > :03:23.It wasn't known whether the owners - believed to be a man and a woman

:03:24. > :03:26.in their 60s or 70s - were at home at the time.

:03:27. > :03:28.Police forensic officers will now investigate.

:03:29. > :03:30.Police are stepping up patrols in the Aigburth

:03:31. > :03:33.and Croxteth areas of Liverpool, after a man was shot

:03:34. > :03:52.Police and paramedics found a 30 year old man,

:03:53. > :04:03.Police believe it to have been a targeted shooting.

:04:04. > :04:14.UK home care Association said that local authorities throughout the

:04:15. > :04:19.region are not taking care resulting in some councils handing back

:04:20. > :04:25.contracts. I think we are at a tipping point. West Riding are

:04:26. > :04:28.realising they cannot operate in the rates local authorities are prepared

:04:29. > :04:36.to pay so we have to take some action right now to address the

:04:37. > :04:40.decline in the home care setter. Dash-mac sector.

:04:41. > :04:43.As many as 1000 public pay phones could disappear from streets

:04:44. > :04:46.across the North West - amid claims they are no longer used

:04:47. > :04:49.But many people believe they're still vital in emergencies.

:04:50. > :04:53.In the age of the mobile phone, the use of phone boxes has dropped

:04:54. > :04:56.by 90% over the past decade, but in

:04:57. > :04:59.rural Lancashire, the rolling hills can prove a barrier to connection.

:05:00. > :05:04.The signal outside the pub or the bar, you cannot use the

:05:05. > :05:13.Now, with BT considering the removal of many

:05:14. > :05:15.payphones, the council working for people to speak up

:05:16. > :05:19.The strength of the mobile phone is not good around here, and

:05:20. > :05:21.even today it has not been there at all.

:05:22. > :05:26.It just switches off and nobody has a signal.

:05:27. > :05:29.So, one could argue this should be maintained.

:05:30. > :05:39.According to BT's figures, the 50 phone boxes

:05:40. > :05:47.in the Ribble Valley have been used on average 14 times each in the past

:05:48. > :05:49.year, some have been used more than 150 times,

:05:50. > :05:55.Everyone has mobile phones, even your great granny has them now.

:05:56. > :05:58.It is 60p a minute to use one of these

:05:59. > :06:01.BT says it is still committed to providing public

:06:02. > :06:03.payphones, and will only remove them with the permission of local

:06:04. > :06:07.We will listen to what people are saying.

:06:08. > :06:09.We are testing for mobile signal that every one of these

:06:10. > :06:12.sites, so we're not taking anything out where there is no mobile signal

:06:13. > :06:16.But the sad fact is many of these payphones are simply not being

:06:17. > :06:20.At three-month consultation on the Ribble Valley's payphones is now

:06:21. > :06:28.He made his name with a controversial painting

:06:29. > :06:30.of Eric Cantona and his Manchester United team mates.

:06:31. > :06:33.And he re-created a version of Michaelangelo's Last Judgement

:06:34. > :06:37.But then the artist Michael Browne seemed to disappear.

:06:38. > :06:39.You might have thought he'd have made a fortune

:06:40. > :06:42.But - as Stuart Flinders reports - nothing could be

:06:43. > :06:56.You build up the mood you want from lots of images.

:06:57. > :07:11.Manchester United's new manager Jose Mourhno.

:07:12. > :07:23.United have always inspired Michael, first as a fan from Moss Side,

:07:24. > :07:26.His portrait of Eric Cantona as the Resurrected Christ offended

:07:27. > :07:30.But Eric liked it so much he bought the painting.

:07:31. > :07:33.Religion is one of the recurring themes in Michael's work.

:07:34. > :07:35.This is his tribute to Michelangelo in a pizza restaurant.

:07:36. > :07:38.Religious art and football took him to Italy, where he spent two

:07:39. > :07:40.and a half years trying to repeat his Cantona success

:07:41. > :07:45.It is supposed to be about 11 feet high, that painting.

:07:46. > :07:47.I could never get hold of Mario Balotelli, so I

:07:48. > :07:59.Then I went to Rome, and try to get to the Vatican,

:08:00. > :08:02.because I heard they were going to show more art-orientated religious

:08:03. > :08:06.Having failed to attract the interest of Balotelli

:08:07. > :08:10.But the money has run out, and the man once courted

:08:11. > :08:18.by United stars now lives in a homeless hostel in Salford.

:08:19. > :08:20.You are a good artist, but a bad businessman, perhaps?

:08:21. > :08:22.I'm sure I will be OK eventually because now I

:08:23. > :08:33.am back in the UK, working at building

:08:34. > :08:35.clientele and have had some help from people.

:08:36. > :08:37.This is surely not the end for Michael.

:08:38. > :08:40.He still has his talent and he is already in talks

:08:41. > :08:47.Football and Wigan Athletic have sacked manager Gary Caldwell

:08:48. > :08:50.He led the Latics to the League One title last season.

:08:51. > :08:52.But they've struggled in the Championship,

:08:53. > :08:55.winning only two out of their 14 league games, and are currently

:08:56. > :08:58.In tonight's games, Liverpool booked their place in the

:08:59. > :09:00.fifth round of the EFL Cup, with Daniel Sturridge scoring two

:09:01. > :09:09.goals to secure a 2-1 home victory over Tottenham.

:09:10. > :09:14.Preston had a less successful evening.

:09:15. > :09:17.They were thrashed 6-0 away to Newcastle.

:09:18. > :09:20.How do you decide which high school to send your child to?

:09:21. > :09:23.You probably look at Ofsted reports and league tables, or choose

:09:24. > :09:27.But some are taking it a bit further,

:09:28. > :09:29.Like this video by Fallibroome academy in Macclesfield.

:09:30. > :09:32.It's been viewed thousands of times online.

:09:33. > :09:34.2000 pupils took part in the impressive production.

:09:35. > :09:38.So if you want to see the full production

:09:39. > :10:06.We are back in the mail they are. Last night it visually quite cold

:10:07. > :10:12.that this will not be the case. It will bring legible rain in the next

:10:13. > :10:16.few days but will just cloud this up a bit. Dash-mac negligible. First

:10:17. > :10:21.thing this morning was really very cool but tomorrow a much milder

:10:22. > :10:25.picture. You will be starting the day with tempters around eight or 10

:10:26. > :10:28.degrees and we are already perhaps six or seven but much better than

:10:29. > :10:33.last night. You can spot where two patches of Brazilian there and that

:10:34. > :10:37.side pays will be low but afraid that weather stays with us tomorrow

:10:38. > :10:40.so from time to time you will see spots of drizzly rain that nothing

:10:41. > :10:45.to write home about our trouble us but it does mean a cloudy picture

:10:46. > :10:49.and at times all look fairly gloomy. Every now and then the sun will try

:10:50. > :10:52.to promote the client will be the predominant feature. The breeze

:10:53. > :10:58.picks up nearly as the monastery strong throughout the day that

:10:59. > :10:59.temperatures are good. Dash-mac the breeze picks up yearly in the

:11:00. > :11:02.morning. settled and on the mild side. Nick

:11:03. > :11:11.now has all the national weather. Hello. Autumn is the season of

:11:12. > :11:15.change, most noticeably with those autumn colours on display today in

:11:16. > :11:18.Buckinghamshire, as photographed by one of our weather watchers. Always

:11:19. > :11:21.helps when there is blue sky above. Our weather is always changing

:11:22. > :11:24.regardless of the season. One of those changes is taking place, we

:11:25. > :11:29.are losing last week's Easterly winds and now a westerly wind. That

:11:30. > :11:33.means it's turning milder by day and night but it does mean the return of

:11:34. > :11:38.Atlantic weather fronts, especially to north-western parts of the UK.

:11:39. > :11:42.The reason, high pressure in Germany and low pressure Iceland. Here is

:11:43. > :11:44.the first of those weather fronts for Scotland and Northern Ireland

:11:45. > :11:49.through the night, the first part of tomorrow. There isn't a huge amount

:11:50. > :11:52.of rain associated with this. Could see rain over the hills of northern

:11:53. > :11:56.England and Wales as the night goes on. The odd shower clipping Sussex

:11:57. > :12:00.and Kent. A lot of dry weather for England and Wales. It's mild here,

:12:01. > :12:04.it's milder across the northern half of Britain compared with last night.

:12:05. > :12:06.But the further south you are the closer to that area of high
